Welll..... this was just terrific and creepy as hell. Guess what I am not going to do tonight? Yes, sleep. *shivers*
Imagine waking up in a world destroyed, imagine waking up amidst corpses of your friends, your schoolmates, your teachers. Welcome to the new world in which the male MC awakens. Understandably the MC is terrified, and well, I can tell you, he wasn't alone. The sight of all those corpses was enough to bring me nightmares, but what happens next was even more gruesome.
The world is pitch black, but that darkness brings an unfortunate thing with it. Flesh-eating bugs. Yep, you heard me right. If it wasn't enough that the world was gone, or at least the part this guy is in, you have lovely bugs that will dig into your skin to eat you. This was definitely one of the many parts that made me have goosebumps, and also one of the parts that made me want to drop the comic. I am not good with bugs, and if those bugs like to nomnom on parts of human? Eh.... NOPE. NOPE. Definitely nope. Especially some scenes were disgusting and disturbing. Like that one were we get a pretty graphic view of a beastie crawling into an eyeball. Yeahhhhh, nope.
There are other survivors, our MC quickly discovers the second MC, this time a girl. I immediately liked her, she seemed strong, dependable, and awesome. I have to say with certain revelations (we see flashbacks to a life before all this stuff) I am not sure if I like her a lot. Of course everyone makes mistakes, but what she did to a friend? No. No. No. Eh, from what I could see our MC is getting a bit of karma on her. There were 2 moments that freaked me out. I won't spoil which ones, but I am sure when you get to those points you will know what I meant. :P
But I still was rooting a lot for her. She has survived for so long, she deserves to make it. She deserves to get through.
The comic switches between the girl and the boy. The boy especially was quite interesting as there is something going on with him that is strange. He has been in a long coma (which is impossible), his wounds heal magically, and then there are the dreams. I am quite curious to see how it will proceed. What will happen to him, why does this all happen to him, is he the chosen one?
Like I said we also see flashbacks and dreams. We see hints to what happened to the world, what our MCs were doing in the world. I definitely loved it, and while they did give a clue on what was going on, they also brought a whole lot of questions with them.
I still have absolutely no clue what is going on or what is happening to the world. Is it only Seoul? Is it the world? Is it something else entirely? Then there is the bugs, the army we saw at the end of this book, the strange guy that helped out. I hope that we will get all the answers as the comic proceeds.
Then we also have some disturbed survivors. Some people survived, but totally snapped, adapted, and are now killing everyone, and eating them. Pursuing them. At first I thought they wouldn't have the capability any more to be human, but they can talk, and they can think. It is quite creepy that people went down the rabbit hole this fast. *shivers* If you thought bugs weren't bad enough, or dogs, then cannibals definitely will top the list.
The art is pretty awesome, I love the style, and how it feels. It works best if you can scroll through them from top to bottom, that just gives the feeling of a movie playing. At times the details were a bit over the top for me (like with the bug and the eye), but mostly I just love them.
What more? Mm I am not sure if I will continue reading (yes confusing right), but I don't know, I just want to immediately go to the ending, not go from one cliffhanger to the next, never knowing if we will find out what happened. So I will be waiting until this one is finished. Then I will marathon through it (though not at night, because lord, I am not sleeping already tonight and it is only the afternoon here).
I would highly recommend it. It is creepy, mysterious, bloody frightening, but so awesome that you can't stop reading.

Todo muy tenso, caótico y creepy, pero eso ha hecho que esta lectura sea increíblemente imposible de dejar a un lado. ¡Muy adictivo!

Oh dear God, why did I read this webtoon on lovely bright Sunday morning. It suddenly made all seems gloomy and dark and abandon.

Storywise, it quite good and intriguing. Keep made me asking why... what happened... what did really causing it, scifi? natural disaster? goverment experiment? what???
The artwork was impressive. Although most of all were black and white (lots and lots of black) but the details were superb. Prolog chapters for each season were one single loooooong illustration. Really worth looking.

Literally every chapter things got worse.
Story was good though! Lots of twists and flashbacks. Most of the series, you have a lot of questions about what’s going on, why is the world ending, etc and most of them are answered by the end (I still have a couple, however).
Also, kudos to the artist, because the art style complements the story perfectly, and some panels were genuinely so creepy.
I saw a lot of people in the comments talking about YLAB’s universe and I am now invested in the superstring universe. WEBTOON, please liscense the rest of YLAB’s stuff.

"¿Por que continuar? ¿Por que seguir viviendo y luchando contra lo inevitable? ¿Tiene algún sentido el vivir ahora?"
Este es uno de esos manwhas que te hace pasar por toda tipo de emociones y que su final te deja con un sabor agridulce aun cuando es uno bastante bueno (Metafóricamente bueno, puesto que aun quedan algunos cabos sueltos sobre el fin del mundo).
Podría decirse que, junto a fire punch, es uno de esos manwha o manga que te abofetea en la cara y te hace preocupar por los personajes, aun cuando sabes que todo esta perdido... por que realmente todo lo esta. Es el fin del mundo. Nadie va a salvarse, pero aun así intentan sobrevivir. Miles y miles de desgracias, casi infinitas chocan contra la humanidad y la ultima, va a ser la peor de todas. Sin embargo, aun cuando la atmosfera se siente pesimista, tensa y oscura, su mensaje es todo lo contrario: El buscar la esperanza en las cosas y sobrevivir a todo lo que ocurre. Simplemente vivir por que eso es lo que hacemos los humanos, sobrevivir.
Añadido a esto, aparecen muchos personajes del mismo universo: Revival Man, Terror Man y otros mas. Y lo que es peor... muchos mueren.
Es increíble lo bueno que esta escrito y su arte es bastante acertado. Si es que algún día lo animan, espero que se conserve algo de su estilo, por que es uno de sus puntos mas fuertes, da como una sensación de ver imágenes entrecortadas.
Recomendado seria decir poco. Es algo que es tan bueno que no me sorprendería que luego de un tiempo se hable mucho de esta obra maestra.

" Mira arriba, en el cielo distante. Alcanza el cielo distante. ¿Quién es... el cielo distante?"
Una primera temporada muy interesante. Si bien es innegable su parecido con el manga Dragon Head, de Minetaro Mochizuki, ya que ambos producen una sensación opresiva, claustrofóbica y tienen una premisa bastante similar; creo que Distant sky consigue labrarse un camino propio y forjarse una esencia particular.
He de decir que esta, definitivamente, es una obra terrorífica. A lo largo del tomo, hay escenas que genuinamente me dieron escalofríos. Distant sky explora escenarios que funcionan muy bien, como esos insectos espantosos come-carne, algo de body horror, y juega hábilmente con el terror a lo desconocido, ¿qué hay ahí que no vemos?
La historia comienza con el protagonista, Haneul, un estudiante que ha despertado desorientado e inmerso en una densa oscuridad, dentro de una estación devastada. Haneul no recuerda nada, y como lectores no sabemos qué está pasando; en las paredes se habla sobre el cielo distante, pero no hay mayores explicaciones; y el olor de la muerte se mueve con ellos.
Algo ha pasado en Seúl, Corea, y no sabemos qué, solo que el miedo es asfixiante.

Sesak. Sepertinya kalau aku berada di komik atau Manhwa ini aku sudah mati. Sedikit trauma, tapi akan lebih trauma lagi jika diteruskan baca sampai volume 5. Tapi bagus! Aku nggak tahu kenapa tapi malamnya setelah membaca ini, aku... tidur nyenyak. Mungkin karena ini terlalu draining; karena tiap-tiap panel menciptakan suasana putus asa yang kuat.
I feel like this and Jinmen has the same vibes, keduanya juga bikin pening kepala. Seru, tapi mungkin aku hanya sanggup baca volume 1 sampai mungkin, volume 3. Gambarnya bagus! Aku paling suka cara Youn In-wan atau siapapun yang menggambarnya mendeskripsikan rasa putus asa melalui goretan-goretan tinta yang unik. Coloringnya juga begitu; pengen menyampaikan bahwa tidak ada kebahagiaan sedikitpun di Distant Sky. Haha. TERUS, aku juga suka cara mereka memberi judul korea pada tiap volume. Yang paling menarik adalah Carnival; yang ditulis kanibal kalau pakai ejaan Hangeul. Word-play!

well, for people complaining about the ending. you should all finish reading season 4-5 which is available on mangadex and should also have a look into the other comics by YLab (same production as Distant Sky) they all mostly have a shared universe. so it'll help you understand the comic better. even though reading Distant Sky till season 5 (Note : 5 is the last season) will do too.
having finished all of it and the other comics by YLab, i recommend it 11/10 if you are capable of keeping up with what it has to offer.

I would rate this a 3.5 out of 5 stars. I wanted to love this series. It has an interesting start. Loads of unknowns and interesting factors. However, certain things keep happening in the story that don't make sense and make it hard for me to want to keep reading. I want to keep reading but I also don't. It's one of those stories where the unknowns are so weird that you aren't sure if the explanation for why (all of this is happened or how) is even good. I will read the next season but I'm not too sure if I enjoy this series yet. 🤷🏼♂️

a lot of things don't make sense, but hey, its a fictional story (luckily, and please no, I don't want this to become reality)... still I hope, there will be some kind of explanation for everything.

Mentiría si no dijera que me asustó de veras; verás, no es que dé un terror absoluto pero la combinación de los oscuro que está todo, lo gore y lo caótico de la historia hace que no tengas ni idea de qué es lo que te va a salir en el panel de más abajo y oye, tiene su canguelo (y más sí lo lees de noche con la luz apagada).
Termino esta season 1 con dudas y con la sensación de que bastante no ha tenido sentido alguno... De momento me gusta. Le voy a dar de momento otra oportunidad y voy a seguir leyendo a ver qué tal. El misterio está servido.

I wanna start with the art
The art was actually SO amazing and shout out to whoever sketched this out, you are so talented!
But this WEBTOON comic I read was graphic, it generally scared me, concerning, and quite the rollercoaster. There was always something happening and it kept me hooked!
Mainly because of all the dead bodies coming from the dead and trying the kill them actually scared me. Probably because I read it at night.
I see some romance starting to come into the picture! I think there might just be some! :)
I would highly recommend this to my thriller lovers out there.

4 stars for the story so far but the art is SO GORGEOUS!! absolutely one of the most beautiful and detailed graphic novels i've ever laid eyes on and it's completely free! i'm really interested to see where the story goes, at first you don't really know what's going on but slowly more things get revealed and it's so interesting and unique. definitely recommend this if you like horror and unsettling imagery of leeches that will make it feel like they're crawling on your skin :)

This one was BRUTAL.The most bleak depiction of a post apocalyptic world I've ever seen in any media.I haven't been this eager to read something in a long time. Although it did have some murky or downright impossible plot points it was an extremely enjoyable read and they didn't deter the experience. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Some chapters will keep you up at night.

Genius. This is so intense and so well done. I love the artwork, the writing, the mystery, and the horror of the situations. I still don't understand much of what is happening and I can't wait to find out.

One of the most unsettling things I've read. You can just feel the despair the characters have in their hearts. The art is amazing, the story is well written, the characters are relatable, and the art is gorgeously chilling.

A story about hope and optimism that I feel changed me as a human. Worth rereading again and again. However, if people have extremely strong preferences for clean lines and don't like not knowing what goes on in/ the backstory of a story occasionally, possibly not for you.

One of the best manhwa on Webtoons. Although it may fall short in Season 4 and 5, it's still a great series.
