All Audrey wants is a man with a plan for his life and a heart for Christ. What she gets instead is a letter from Death Row.
WARNING: While this book is contemporary Christian fiction, it is the story of a man on Death Row for the brutal rape and murder of two young women and therefore deals with some topics and details not often found in this genre that may make some readers uncomfortable.
This book was written as an epistolary novel between a death row inmate and a college girl, who is the sister of the victim's boyfriend. He writes to her from prison asking for help to prove his innocence. This book was a page turner, with mystery and plot twists you didn't see coming. There was romance and humor too. I loved this book and I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it.
I can’t choose 2.5 stars, but that is what I rate this book as.
I wanted to like this book. In places, I did. I enjoyed some of the banter in the letters. Some of it was quite funny.
However, my predominant feeling about this book is frustration. In the beginning, the main character made me feel annoyed and I wanted to stop reading. I kept reading to see growth in the character, which I did. Not totally sure I bought it though.
I also don’t feel like I bought the building of the relationship. The steps between animosity and disbelief to belief. The steps between belief to friendship or friendship to love. It also seemed almost easy for her to make the discoveries that she did. Those things should have been agonizing.
Then suddenly he was free and she was having adjustment problems — then she wasn’t. Then they lived happily ever after.
I did enjoy the epistolary aspect of the book. I just couldn’t ever buy the steps or that a 19 year-old girl figured out things that experienced officers of the law could not. I also didn’t buy the identity of the person who did it or that they were capable of such a selfish and violent act. It’s wasn’t believable at all to me.

How would you feel if you received a letter from a convicted murderer on Death Row? That's Audrey's dilemma. Worse, this is the man who raped and killed her brother's girlfriend. And he is claiming he's innocent.
This book is a complete departure from L. N. Cronk's usual style, but it is gripping, and I never saw the twist coming.
I really enjoyed reading this book because it was interesting format...letters. I like these authors and their other books so I knew it would be good. But so different, I did not expect. I really enjoyed the storyline and the main characters. They really sounded like real people going through the crazy situation they were in. Letters made it possible to really hear what each was saying and feeling. Thanks for this different journey.
Oh my gosh this book is amazing. I read the description and my eyebrows raised but I've read most all of Jen's books and she's so not afraid to write about topics so I dove into this book and was so so surprised .. all I'm gonna say is it was Good. I'm a survivor of rape so if you have issues be careful but this book is so worth it !!!
If you like epistolary novels, this is one with a twist. The characters are believers now, but they weren't so there's a lot that comes out about their pasts that might offend some readers. Just know that it is redemptive, and I'll bet you don't guess who the murderer is... I sure didn't! It was hard to put down.
This was a heavy subject, but I thought the authors handled it very well, dealing with it realistically but not graphically. I thought the epistolary style was a perfect choice and I especially loved the way faith was woven into the story. I'll definitely be reading more by both authors!
What a roller coaster of emotions reading this story! This is probably my favorite so far by these two authors. I don't know if one author wrote from Audrey's perspective and the other from Luke's but I could not put this book down! Brava, Jenn and L.N., brava!
I love the way the book is written—as a series of letters and newspaper articles, and I love the interaction between Luke and Audrey. The mystery is intriguing, the romance is moving, and the faith/forgiveness is powerful. Although the subject matter is difficult, the story is beautiful.
A novel written mostly with back and forth letters between the two main characters. Is he guilty of murder? Has he been wrongly convicted? The shocking answer to this question will leave you enthralled and amazed. I certainly didn't see it coming. Reading it is definitely worth your time.
A very different kind of book. One that offers grace for others and learning to believe and accept God's leading. Written in the form of letters between a death row inmate, who has been convicted of murdering and raping two women, and a college girl who is the sister of the boyfriend of one of the victims. Luke says he is innocent and is trying to get Audrey to help him find the real killer. And by the way I couldn't figure out the whodunit until the very end and that is very unusual for me. Well written and you can easily identify with the feelings and turmoil in the lives of both of these characters. I can very easily recommend this book.
Every book that I read by L.N. Cronk is AMAZING! I don't know how else to describe them. This book is written in such a brilliant way! I've never read a book that was written in this style. All of her books, this one is no exception, show God and how he wants us to be, live, love, forgive and even grieve in all things that we go through in this walk we call life. L.N. Cronk is my absolute favorite author and I recommend all of her books!
This was a very different book than anything I have read before but I really enjoyed it. The more you read, the better it gets and it is hard to put down! Great book if you need something quick, fun, a little love, and a little mystery.
I loved this book! The interaction between Luke and Audrey was fascinating as they grew closer. The book is graphic at times, but it was warranted by the story.
