Riley Cole is a lone wolf. Metaphorically speaking, that is.
After living through a bleak childhood and pathetic excuses for parents, Riley left the backwoods town of Luna Hill, Missouri happily in her rearview mirror. Her survival instincts and natural independence brought her to Chicago, where she discovered her calling as a private investigator.
However, when a mysterious stranger from her hometown requests her services, Riley must summon all of her courage to face the ghosts of her past.
As she gets closer to the answers that she seeks, something otherworldly happens. Riley becomes an actual wolf.
With the help of Sheriff Luke Thatcher, can Riley get to the truth and save those closest to her before it's too late?
N.L Hoffmann is a paranormal romance author. She was born in Germany to her German native mother and her American soldier father. The family moved home to the states, where she grew up in a rural farm town in Michigan with her parents and two younger brothers. There, in her pre-teens, is when she began writing and developed her love for literature. Today, Hoffmann resides in Missouri with her husband and three children, where she published her first book Blood Slaves in January 2014. When Hoffmann isn't busy putting words on the page she enjoys reading, drawing, playing loving pranks on her husband, and spending time with her family.
I never really grew to like the personalities or interactions between the protagonists in this book, but it was a good story line with an unexpected twist at the end. There was some interesting world building with the pack structure and the politics of alpha challenges, but, unfortunately, a lot of holes in the plot and many issues I thought would be handled more aggressively... there was so much passive acceptance of the challenge, even when pack members were being kidnapped or slaughtered, the wolves simply didn't seem outraged enough, adopting a wait-and-see stance-- this caused the action to slow and stall when the writer could have been building more tension and explaining more background as to the encroaching pack and character history.
Well written, vividly graphic, heart grasping, intoxicating and inviting...It's dangerously delicious, fun, yet forbidden and the diversity keeps you on your toes! A must read! - Nook Books and More Blog
Never Dies throws you a truly phenomenal read. The novel opens with a P.I. coming to her old town to investigate a child missing. She has lots a skeletons in her closest and a past that she is not looking forward to meeting up with. The plot only thickens when she uncovers things that are mind blowing and life changing. A Phenomenal read that pulls at your very core as the plot thickens and twist and turns you do not expect. But it doesn't stop there! There are Hot juicy Alpha's in the mix and it gets steamy!
This series puts an amazing twist on such a diversity in the paranormal world. This journey has brought characters together that needed each other in so many more ways than even you would expect. There were promises made and broken, love fulfilled and betrayed. We see our heroine embarks on a journey that is totally different then her life now. She soon learns her life is nothing of what she has known and embarks on an abyss of a journey.
I really enjoyed watching their family dynamics and how they nurtured each other and grow. Love is such a powerful emotion that exist and that explains this through out this story. There are many twist and turns in the story. Perhaps the most I've ever seen in a series. Each relationship pulls you in because it's hot yet forbidding and dangerous with some. There's a sense of much darker adventure as they are constantly striving to keep each other safe.
But wait the story doesn't stop there! It seems, no matter which direction the these characters seem to turn, someone or something is trying to come between them. Though sometimes they put it on themselves, the journey is epic as it continues to play out! The twist and turns are phenomenal. I couldn't put it down! Each character comes to life and bleeds off the pages with their own unique style and freshness. The ability to make such diversity in the characters, their abilities, and their characteristics is phenomenal. It definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. Can we say cliffhanger! Omg you experience many different emotions that keep your heart racing.
I have so many questions of each character. This story could continue on and on with each individual characters of uniqueness and individuality. I can't wait to hear about Alex!
The authors words flow effortlessly off the page and it's easy to follow. You stay focused throughout the book not getting lost like some authors in their adventure scenes. I loved the different characters and they draw you into their world making you feel as though you are really their. The right balance of hotness, steamy scenes to back up with a true heroine kick ass feel with Alphas to boot is awesome! Thanks Ms. Hoffman for one hell of a ride!
I love this authors writings so when I saw that she had a new book out . I jumped at the chance to give it a read . This is a stand alone book about a small town girl that left . Made good and had to come back to the small town , where her child hood was horrible . Sounds like your everyday story of most small town stories , right . Wrong this one is so much more there is a werewolf pack involved . Meet Riley a private eye that is sucked into going back to her home town . A place that she never wanted to go back to. But she is on a case and needs to rescue her little sister , that she didn't even know she had . She gets more then she bargained for when she meets Luke Thatcher . the hot sheriff in town and his bad boy brother Lance . Will she get the answers she needs and will she be able to handle what happens to her .
I really loved the characters in this book . The author writes such great strong complex female characters . Riley is the type of girl that has been through so much in her life . She grew up in the most horrible conditions but has survived . You see her struggling at the beginning of the book . But as you read you see Riley grow stronger and become the woman that she knew she was all the time.
Lance Thatcher is the bad boy that has grown up to still be the bad boy around town . He has an arrogant attitude but underneath he has a heart . He is so much an alpha, cocky but also loves his family. He loves flirting with Riley and driving his brother Luke crazy. I actually really like Lance even though at some points I wanted to knock him upside the head.
Luke is the sullen sheriff of Luna Hill and Lance's brother . He just seems like the a lone wolf and he is complicated . He is surly, and sexy as sin . He is trying to keep his brother in line and trying to live down the bad rep of his family. He is smitten with Riley and she is smitten with him but they both try and deny their feelings. I am so glad he is such a great character to read . I kind of fell for him hard . I love brooding characters that have that alpha sexiness .
There are so many great supporting characters that go along with Riley, Lance and Luke and they all play important parts in this book .
I couldn't put this book down . Like all N.L's books I was hooked from the very first page . She takes us on an adventure with every turn on the page . The story was so good and such a nice different way to have a werewolf pack . You will really like them and Riley will make you cheer for her and Luke . The twist at the end will make you go wow . The story is a thrill ride and will keep you reading all night long . I will admit I read this book in one night and I had a book hangover. So if you want a great book that will keep you reading and loving . Check out NEVER DIE by N.L Hoffmann I was given this arc and here is my honest review
This was a good, quick, and uncomplicated read. It is perfect if you are looking for a nice entertaining read that won’t ask you to keep track of information, lineages, and lore from previous books. Everything you need to know is in the book and presented in a way that isn’t an annoying info dump. Riley was like and not like Hoffmann’s other characters. She had some snark, but not a ton of it. She was also a strong character though a bit naïve with something’s. Though I will admit most of it is because I’ve read a ton of UF/PNR books and have a good idea about werewolves and the like. Even though I had a good idea of who the big bad was early on in the book I still enjoyed the book a lot. Riley and Luke were just cute. I don’t know what else to say besides that … well when they got together they were hot. I felt the same frustrations Riley did over Luke’s hot/cold crap. Lance was, well, Lance. You have to read the book to understand. He is complicated in the fact that you never really have a good idea of what he will do or say.
All in all I liked this book. N.L. Hoffmann books are usually auto buys for me and I can admit that some did not work for me. But, the good totally outweigh the bad for me when it comes to her offerings.
This is a paranormal romance, with a touch of mystery. I recommend this for adults only due to the sexual content. Yes.. this is a stand alone, but I would so love to read what happens next for Riley. This is a fast paced read, that was hard to put down. A must read!
Riley's childhood was anything but, well a childhood. So she choose to leave her past in the past and moved. Riley made a good life for herself, but her job as a private investigator sometimes puts her in situations that she truly doesn't want to be in... now it's right back in her hometown of Luna Hill, Missouri. But she has bills to pay and a job to do. Ok where to start, the citizens of Luna Hill are not what they all seem and Riley being in the wrong place, at the wrong time, is turned into a wolf. Okay so that was not part of the plan. BUT maybe that sexy Luke Thatcher who also happens to be the sheriff can help her out... really.
favorite passages: "Eyes to yourself, sicko." "Maybe there was some sort of support group. Werewolves Anonymous." "Something that would slap me awake mentally." "He kissed me, smashing our chili-covered lips together."
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
“I want you to cut his balls off.”
When this is the very first line of a book you know it’s going to be good. Within the first handful of pages I was hooked and quickly became absorbed into N. L. Hoffmann’s world. Having read Hoffmann’s books before I knew I was in for a phenomenal ride but this was so much more, this was… intoxicating – I couldn’t put this book down even if I wanted to, which I didn’t. There is something about Hoffmann’s writing that just grips and drags you along (happily, not kicking and screaming – just wanted to point that out). It’s not just the fantastic characters, including a strong female lead and a very sexy alpha, amazing storyline or the vivid detail, the journey undertaken in this book is simply… epic! If you don’t grab a copy of this book today, you’ll regret it.
I was very impressed with the story. Great storyline, wonderful characters. I got so involved reading this story that I didn't put it down till I was finished. It's that Good!! Private investigator Riley Cole is a strong woman who is great in here. Lance and Luke werewolves are definitely growl worthy. Great Story to begin with then got even better when the pnr aspects came into it. Suspenseful and Intriguing.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of the book by the author. I'm so glad I accepted it. I have found me a great new author to follow. Reviewer for Nook Books and More Blog
I love this book. It is a standalone novel. It is full of mystery, suspense, surprise and romance. It is very well written, smooth flowing and easy to read. The author did a great job portraying the characters, their emotions and the experiences they go through.
Riley Cole had an extremely unpleasant childhood and moved away to live with an Aunt as soon as she was able to. She vowed never to return to that horrible place. She is now a successful private investigator. Most of her cases involving infidelity. While she may not be the neatest person alive, she is self sufficient and can take care of herself.
When a potential client comes to her office to ask Riley to take a case, the client will stop at nothing to get Riley to agree. It throws up all kinds of red flags. This case will change her life more than she could ever imagine.
