reading this was definitely not a good experience, the adaptation was okay I guess. But the romance was meh. With a lot of red flags, I advice you to read it at your own risk. You may try watching the movie which is decent if you leave the force sex scene, that was something unacceptable.

At your absolute best, you still won't be good enough for the wrong person. At your worst, you'll still be worth it to the right person."

We are all born a unique individual yet we all try so hard to fit in. STAND UP, STAND OUT."

Be yourself and the right people will love you.

Show your true colors. Don't turn into a dull, grey version of yourself because you're afraid you're a little too much. Your bright, bold self is beautiful and deserves to be fully seen."

Lalu ia pun mengkonfrontasi Yashiro. Yashiro ketakutan, tentu saja.
Understanding is deeper than knowledge. There are so many people who know you, but there are very few who understand you.

Society: “Just be yourself.”
Society: “No, not like that.”

Don't let people make you feel bad or guilty for living your life. It is your life. Live it the way you want.

Menurutku Yashiro ini merasa "could only be himself MORE" when he was crossdressing and happy when another guy thinks he looks cute.
Jadi menurutku, daripada mendikte tranny harusnya begini begitu, harusnya be yourself, but not like that bla bla bla which is an utter crap, kenapa tdk mencoba menghargai pendapat si tranny dan membiarkannya saja, kan sebenarnya itu hak tranny mau dia pakai apa, jadi apa, operasi kelamin dll. Memangnya kita siapanya dia? Just leave them be. Sesuai perkataan Dalai Lama : "Manusia mengambil jalan yg berbeda-beda dalam mencapai tujuan dan kebahagiaan. Tak sejalan denganmu, bukan berarti mereka tersesat."

Before anything else, I would like to put this as a warning to those who are planning to read it. This manga involves the following that might be upsetting for some readers: sexual harrassment, misgendering, dubious consent, stalking, and blackmailing. Read this manga at your own risk.

I genuinely wanted to like this, I really do since it is not my character to despite a book so much. But here we are.

Judging by the synopsis alone, I thought this manga had the potential if it was executed well. I should have expected then that it would disappoint me big time since Japan—or in any other parts of the world, really–is not open to the idea of crossdressing yet.

I only read this to be able to get a grasp of what should I expect from the live action movie since it starred two of my favorite stage actors of all time. Fortunately, I got what I wanted and did not push through with the idea of watching it–thanks to the source material.

I'm surprised that I was able to finish reading this despite a lot of red flags scattered all throughout the story. I wish someone had to tell me to stop reading this because having encounter with this book was not pleasant experience to have and I could have saved my time.

this was different in terms of animation for me, it gave it more of a real life feel then just you typical manga. it was actually not a bad book. it was worth the time in reading, because it helps show that you can let fear step in the way of wanting to be the real when it seems that life is there to put you down and that every one is out to get you, while in reality what people think about you really doesnt matter, its what you think and how you feel that counts. this book has given me hope to never stop believing in myself no matter who you are or what secrets you keep inside.

06.2021:

Alles in Allem also ein sehr interessanter Charakter.

Warnung:

~**~**~**~

I was looking forward to reading this title because it sounded interesting, and in a way it was. Yashiro's inner conflict was interesting and mostly well portrayed (for the number of pages we get here), so I would have liked to know more about him. Even though the blurb suggests this at first, I didn't get the impression that he is confused about his gender identity (?) He likes feminine clothes but can't admit to it at first. He is also not quite sure about his sexuality or partially suppresses it. He imagines himself being dominated by a man while wearing feminine clothes but is afraid to act it out because he doesn't know what it will do to him. All in all, a very interesting character!
Momose, on the other hand, is in my eyes an egoistic disagreeable guy. Although such a character can also be interesting, it doesn't quite work for me in this case. Momose finds Yashiro attractive in feminine clothes and wants to know more about him. Instead of considering what Yashiro wants or how he feels, however, everything Momose does seems rather self-serving. He finds Yashiro cute when he's wearing feminine clothes and urges him to wear them. He doesn't really care how Yashiro feels about it. He defends him and encourages him in a way, but for me, the selfish tone is definitely too prominent. He compliments him unwantedly, follows him around, gives him clothes, and harasses him excessively several times.
What I found particularly striking here is how often Yashiro actually expresses his discomfort out loud (it happens even more often in his thoughts). Phrases like "I'm scared", "Don't touch me", "I don't want this", "No" occur a good 20 times, 15 of them on four consecutive pages. I'm inclined to say that Momose doesn't care, but it seems much more likely that he just doesn't quite understand the concept of "fear" or "discomfort". However, it has to be said that he apologises later.
Since Momose is the only one (besides his Yashiro's ex-girlfriend) who seems to accept his preference for feminine clothes and defends him, Yashiro is attracted to him in a certain way as a result. Furthermore, Momose's behaviour fulfils Yashiro's fantasy, but since Yashiro is not yet ready to act on it because he has not yet fully understood himself at that point, it remains problematic. Especially since even desired dominance does not mean that the dominant partner should not listen to their submissive partner.

Momose and Yashiro has a pretty interesting dynamic. The manga addresses homosexuality and cross dressing, but since it’s only six chapters long, the author didn’t delve into the topics much and gave more room to explore the main characters’ relationship. In the first chapter, Momose associated cross dressing with being gay; he even looked up the term gender dysphoria. However, in the second chapter, that isn’t the case. By the end, Yashiro finally accepts the fact that he likes to cross dress with Momose supporting his hobby.

I was actually surprised about how the author treated consent. It didn’t feel forced as many BL usually have it. Momose stopped his sexual advancement when Yashiro refused, saying he was scared. Later on, Momose evaluates what he did wrong.

I love the crossdressing and the issue Yashiro's gender identity problem. On the other hand, I think it was Momo the only one that was in love. Yashiro wasn't, I wasn't even sure he liked men. Crossdressing yes, but that did not make him gay. And he was more scared of Momo than he like the guy. The romance aspect, MEH.

Loved it!
Loved how Momose likes Yashiro no matter how he's dressed, but that he likes him best when he's being himself and doing what he loves.
Also, I must give kudos to the author for writing about someone who realizes the mistake he's made by assaulting someone else sexually. Sadly, this is very uncommon in mangas of this genre.

"Wait for Me at Udagawachou" is a short manga that tells us the story of Momose, a student walking around the streets, who stumbled upon Yashiro, a classmate, cross-dressing as a girl.

This manga has very nice art. It lands on the simple side but each MC has a very clear style and in Yashiro's case, both of his versions have a reminiscence to let us know it's the same person.

It's not a perfect read but it has some very high points that made me feel I'm not over yaoi manga, I've just been reading the wrong ones.

I liked how the cross-dressing issue was treated. Momose it's depicted as a weird person but he's very respectful with Yashiro about his cross-dressing activities and even helps him.

I felt Yashiro's reaction to Momose stalking him was on point. The stalking was never depicted as a good thing or romantic. It was shown as a dangerous situation, no matter Momose's good intentions.

The end is where it lost me a little because the "romance/attraction" was underdeveloped. I get that Yashiro might fall for the only guy that accepts him no matter what but there was blackmail involved and a very confusing situation of assault. In defense of the book, is not presented as romantic, so I guess it's a win.

As with all the yaoi mangas, the last scene is +18 for no reason at all.

Overall, it was a nice read, I was expecting so little from it that it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

Don't want to be all "cringe culture" here but- I loved it, and I hated it. I had so much fun reading it, but, like, I was also cringing the entire time. Is it objectively good? Probably not. Is it objectively bad? Not really. It's just, you know, brain empty fun time. Just vibes, vibes only.
