The Play Book

Rate this book
There’s no woman I can’t conquer.

Hundreds of eager women are in the shared black ledger the football players of the Jupiter Suns call The Playbook. But there’s only one that I want. The one marked unf*ckable.

Women fall to my feet as soon as I turn on the Jacob Maddox charm, and yet my new teammates don’t think I can get one woman into my bed? Pfft, they don’t know who they are dealing with.

The Playbook says she’s unconquerable, unobtainable, and off limits, but I’ve never shied away from a challenge before, and I’m not going to start now. One look will be all it takes for her to open up her legs. Lucia will be mine for a night, then forgotten about for the rest of the season. I’ll collect my winnings and concentrate on what really matters: getting my number one spot back!

But as soon as I get one addictive taste of Lucia Cortes the plan goes to shit… she’s a game changer. The play is busted and I’m scrambling to keep it together.

I can’t sleep, I can’t eat… f*ck, I can barely breathe without her. She’s slipping through my fingers and it only gets worse when I find out who she really is!

I don’t have a chance in hell of keeping her, but I’ll risk everything to make her mine.

The Playbook is a new, full-length (70k+), standalone romance novel with a HEA.

😵The blurb is ALREADY disgusting.

😞But lemme make this worse for ya.

🚩 Dnf at Chapter 2!

#️⃣Secret baby romance.
#️⃣h is sweet.
#️⃣This is a forbidden , coach's daughter romance.
#️⃣Its a 250 pages book.
#️⃣The H is a man-whore , like....... HUUUUUGE man-whore.
#️⃣For a guy who is a world level player of football , he was irresponsible , disgusting , and disrespectful , selfish , cocky , arrogant .
#️⃣The prologue starts with him in a limo having threesome with 2 groupies , when he is JUST about to make an appearance in front of his new coach and the whole Paparazzi and media.
#️⃣Its a detailed scene , so we come to know that he REALLY does not want to go out of the limo , and how he REALLY would like nothing more than to fuck the OW in the limo.
#️⃣First meeting of h and H-He OBVIOUSLY flirts with her. No surprise there.
#️⃣She is attracted BUT standoffish.
#️⃣The H comes to know that none of the team-mates have had a chance to sleep with the coach's daughter.
#️⃣The H takes this as a challenge to get in her pants.
#️⃣He gets drunk and parties hard , flirts with the h like there's no tomorrow while being TOTALLY hungover , and in his POV he tells that he does not even KNOW who he is flirting with. He is just horny and wants to get laid.

#️⃣I realize , that in normal circumstances , this would sound totally ............. normal , but trust me it was weird to read about i t , because he LITERALLY gave me Jordan Belfort vibes.

#️⃣I guess I am used to Hs being TOTALLY OTT , and claiming there woman , they don't make moon eyes at EVERY woman .

#️⃣But the Zero in this book was more like a VERY VERY VERYYYYYYY HORNY 16 year old jock than an adult star level international NFL player.

#️⃣He check out every girl that he passes by.

#️⃣Also , I did not reach the point where the whole secret-baby romance thing could happen.

#️⃣I am sure that once they were intimate (lol I did not even reach the point where they could be intimate for the first time) or once she was pregnant , the H must have matured overnight.

#️⃣Any who , I did not have the patience to read it.

#️⃣This book is SAFE.

#️⃣There is OW scene BEFORE they meet.

#️⃣Once they meet , he isin't with somebody else, but he isin't OTT about her either.

#️⃣No-cheating.

#️⃣HEA. Who even cares at this point?

Mmeh...

This one could have been a good read but the MCs just felt off for me. I didn’t buy into their emotional connect.

That might have because of that overly descriptive opening scene with the H and two OW. I just didnt understand the point of that at all. Right from the start the H was on my bad side.

The reason I gave it two stars instead one is because I liked how the H reacts to the baby news. It was refreshing to see an MC react positively to the news. It was like a complete personality makeover. He becomes this sweet (if cocky) guy who really cares about the h and their baby. It almost redeemed him and was the only time he and the h came together as a real couple.

IMO this was okay but not enough to recommend or re-read.

SAFETY INFO Sorta safe...

I got to about 30% on here and completely gave up.

The story was just so hard to read through, I don't know what it was but I just couldn't hack it.

Lucia is apparently the 'untouchable' one, working for a sports team. yet when she sees Jacob that just suddenly changes and she is happy to hop into bed with him. I probably would have made more of an effort with this book if that wasn't the case. The woman didn't even play hard to get.
I was expecting a strong female character who was tough to crack...not what I read.

Sorry but not my cup of tea.

A cute story with an easy writing style. I liked the characters and the idea.

However there were no surprisings in this book, it was not emotional and sometimes all I could do was to shake my head.
But I had fun reading the story and enjoyed it.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, and quite honestly, this book does not disappoint. Avery Wilde has written a beautiful romance story that leaves you wanting more. The Playbook is an addictive, intriguing, and steamy read that will completely captivate your heart.

This was cute..

Jacob starts off as a very cocky and arrogant male lead. He's so full of himself that it was questionable how he just didn't float everywhere...that's how gassed up his head was. The man was in love with himself! Who the hell can identify with a lead like that? There was a deeper side to him though, so as the story progresses, we see less arrogance and more humility..he wasn't a bad guy, just a slightly damaged one.

Good story, fast paced, sexy and engaging..

Jacob doesn't start off the book in a flattering way. And I can understand how that can be upsetting. He's a playboy through and through. Goes through women like crazy. I don't care what the MMC does before he meets the MFC. It's after the fact that I will be all judgy judgy.

He did have some redeeming qualities. He didn't have an interest in the opposite sex other than Lucia. Did he make little comments? Yes, like a normal horny male.

There was a lot of my 🍆 this, my 🍆 that. He was hard 99% of the book.

Lucia is a daddy's girl. And you can tell. She tries her best with her job. Yet, she faces a male dominated sport that makes it extremely hard. She doesn't give up, though. She does break the rules with Jacob.

Could have used some more bonding time between the MCs to build up the chemistry.

Has Potential

This book has some potential. I really liked how this book started and thought I was in for a treat. Almost. I don't want to say anything bad about this book, because it was good for the most part. However, it just seem to all go to quick for me. I really loved the storyline, but the timeline of everything was just way too quick. I wanted to see these 2 together together before it all went to hell and the back again. The writing was good in parts, but in others felt a bit stilted and didn't quite mesh.
It was a great read and it was enjoyable and I'm sure others will love it.

It was a prank and he feel for it. But in truth he feels for her too. And in falling for her things happened that he wasn't proud of. Things he wanted to keep in the dark. An abuse father wants what his son has because now he is a famous football player and feels like his son owes him. And in doing that he turns him away when he does something to the woman he has falling in love with. He won't give up on her and in not giving up on her they talk some things out. The father who is also the owner is not going for the relationship but has to get over it when he finds out his only daughter is pregnant by the player on his team. He steps up to the plate in more than one way and it all works out in his favor. The girl in the story you can tell she has a lot of issues and have to work through them. And she does with his help.

So this one was going great, on track to be a 4 ⭐️ read and then I looked down and where I thought I would be about 40-50% of the way through the book, I was at 74%... I was expecting a lot more to happen within this book, but the denouement was imminent and all of a sudden everything was over. It felt like there was more growing our characters needed to go through before they were all of a sudden just head over heels in love with each other. There was a lot of conflict going on that was never fully resolved, but then the book was over. And Coach coming to her at the end for his own problems felt completely our of character and not at all earned. I honestly didn't connect with any of the side characters, didn't get much of them in the first place, so if the next books are about other characters, I don't have any motivation to read them.

I got this free on Amazon because it sounded like something I would read and the cover looked pretty good. I read this over night and it took me until at least half way through to make a connection to the main characters in The Play Book. It has a lot of promise, it literally drops you right into a steamy scene which gets your attention. The male lead is cocky, arrogant and the female lead is...well uptight. But would have liked more time for them to develop instead of a quick romance. It was an okay read.

The start was ok, clearly he isn’t much of a catch! But there was promise there.

But the writing, characterisation and storyline were just off and it was quite laborious to read. Whilst it didn’t take long to read this was mostly due to my skimming. The writing lacked depth or any kind of sparkle.

It was free so I guess I shouldn’t complain. Sadly as I thought the beginning was ok I bought the next two. Let’s hope it gets better.

Jacob and Lucia are so darn hot together. He pulls out all the stops to get her into bed, but one taste and he's hooked. Of course things never work out perfectly and they have issues. Steamy sexy read that keeps you turning the pages until your finished. I really, really enjoyed this book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book

I really loved the way how the characters were. I mean, at first I was probably not going to feel it until, they met each other. At that point there was something I knew was going to happen. It kept me in the edge of my seat, I could not stop reading. The way how their dynamic was even got me more in love.
I was happy with how in the end they each turned out to be. At a certain part where I even cried (that was how beautiful it was). Avery Wilde, for a first time read of your books you blow my mind away. I loved it all!

Good read. I am a huge sports romance fan, and this one has it all. Great characters, good storyline and a little spice. There were a few editing problems, but other than that, good all around romance.

Some parts felt a little slow for me, but overall it was a beautiful story.

The ending was great. I got to read a version with bonus chapters, definitely the perfect conclusion.

I will definitely have to read the next book "The Curve Ball".

Geeez, let's just start right in like the boom does: this is all about using every crass word equated with raunchy, cheap sex. This isn't a writer, she's a porn specialist who puts CRASS to the max!!!!!
2 pages was too much!!

Enjoy...

...this good story. I enjoyed the not stereotypical sports romance. It didn’t give pat answers or knee jerk reflexive patterns to the dramatic incidents.
Will read other books by Author.

Enjoyable from beginning to bonus end

Great characters in Lucia and Jacob. While all wasn't smooth sailing, in was perfect in where there blocks to the romance. They are evenly matched and I will continue to read books by Ms. Beaumont.

I love Babies

This was a very cute story, Jacob had it very tough growing up and still pushed himself to do better. Lucia and Jacob's start was a bit of a struggle but I'm so happy that everything worked out for them.😍😍

It's ok

If you can get past the fact that they fall in love after one date, then you'll enjoy this one. Timeline was too off for me. Plus Lucia was way too forgiving. Other than that, i enjoyed the story and the characters.

This was ok - it was a little simplistic and mind-numbing if you really thought about it for longer than the time it took to read the specific words. I don't want to hang out with Jacob or that chick ever though.

This book was amazing. I fell in love with Lucia and Jacob. I'm so happy they got through their hurdles and came out stronger than ever. I love that they got their happy ever after. Can't wait to read the other 2. Nice work!

Wasn't for me

I know in a lot of these whirlwind romance books things move fast but in this book they moved even faster. How quickly the main characters relationship progressed was just too unreliable for me, though I did enjoy it once they finally got together

Awesome love story

This book touched all the basis for me while reading. Sex, love, drama--- they were all present. There was never a dull moment.
Looking forward to the author's other novels.

Way better than I thought

A little unethical and you really see the bad side of most of the characters upfront. As the book goes on they get to know each other and see there’s more there about them which is pretty similar to life. It was a good book!
