It`s a brilliant 5 star read for me, this book captivated me from the start. I loved the story line from the charity work to the romance, from the deceit to the love. This book has it all. Lan seems to have this gift in her writing to always turn a bad situation on its head. I think this author has made her mark, as well as her first book`s which was a trilogy and now this fabulous love story i for one am a big fan. It`s a good story that flows through every chapter and i honestly could`nt put it down, i did`nt want it to end but when it did i loved the bonus ending. If your looking for a romantic love story where the sex scenes are hot and the family values are to be commended you`ll enjoy this book. I was given this ARC to read for an honest and unbiased review.

Loved this story. Started out Max has everything. A big CEO at his own construction firm. His mom dying wish were him to volunteer one of the charity so he can see the world in a different light. Emilia was an owner of her family's Italian restaurant she was engaged to a lawyer Brad but she was missing something. After her parents passed she still contribute of helping poor children around the world. A great story. I liked this type of read. It keeps you going from suspense, erotic, and emotional.

This was a very charming book, well written with great characters & a good solid story. I felt for everything they both were going through & rooted for them to find a way to back to each. It is a HEA book & would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the genre. This was my first book by this author & I will be giving her other books a try too!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Read Copy of this book.
Lan LLP has a wonderful ability to write captivating and original romantic stories that completely spellbind me. Hot, masculine, alpha-male CEO's who will do anything and everything for their woman is a staple feature in one of LLP's novels, along with strong heroines who are feisty and opinionated, and in no way a pushover. Her books have a real authenticity to them, almost as if she's experienced the scenes that she's writing about, without crossing over into being so descriptive it slows the story down. I read this in one sitting and found it moved along really well, building up the sexual tension between the leads, but with enough twists or spanners in the works to not make a HEA an easy ride, which frankly is boring, and this is anything but. I found Clean Slate to be moving, funny, poignant and the sex scenes were perfectly written without venturing into outright erotica territory. It's a story that encompasses fate, destiny, self-belief, perseverance, and the true value of friends and family. I never repeat the blurb or reiterate the plot in a review, you can read the synopsis for that, or better still pick up the book, but LLP captured the heart and soul of the bonds of an undeniable attraction, and that of a close family, and those scenes were the ones that really touched something deep inside of me and made me want to be a part of Nonno and Nonna's world. A fantastic read, I can't wait to see what unique tale she comes up with next. ***I was provided with an ARC by the author in exchange for my frank and honest opinion***
One and first I have never meet this author but I love her she is my Facebook friend and one of the sweetest authors to her fb fans I've ever seen. We have talked to each other before she started this book we shared things about our fathers to each other. I was so honored she named the musician after my dad "Brent". That was so heart warming before the book even came out. Then to my very big surprise one of Lindsey little girl was named Brandy. That really brought tears to my eyes. Ok now let's talk about the main characters, Max wow what a turn around but a great one he was the most cari g sweet loving man but still a bad a** CEO he is a great book boyfriend to add to my list. And Eme oh I loved her sass her humor and stubbornness but she was also emotional and loving and so kind. Loved her big family of grandparents and friends that did everything together that's what family about. Now the two evils got what was coming to them. And the ending was the best loved every second of this book it made me so happy from beginning to the end. I received this book as a ARC for a honest review but I'd spend money on it any day. Thank you again Lan for loving your fans and putting your heart into your work. You are the best
I beta read this book for Lan LLP. I usually don't write reviews for books that I beta because I feel too biased. I also don't like to because I don't like/love every book that I've beta read. However, I can't keep mouth shut on this book.
I absolutely adore this story. As far as Contemporary Romance goes, the author nailed it! From the storyline, to the characters, to the dialogue, this book has something for everyone. There were moments in this story that my heart actually broke for Emilia. She is such a strong and independent character, but has a soft, loving, compassionate side. I think every woman can relate to her in one way or another. Max is wonderful in his own right. He had his own heartbreak that I felt so deeply. He is a total alpha, but not overbearingly so. He knows what he wants and he isn't afraid to go after it. I love how he takes care of Emilia.
While reading this story, you can tell that it wasn't hastily written. The author put thought into each scene, which is evident by how well the story flows. It's obvious that a lot of planning and love went into writing this book. Clean Slate is the perfect book to curl up and read on a lazy (or rainy) day.

I really liked the idea behind this story. It took a bit to get really into it though. I really wished the characters were a little more thought out. There were times where the internal dialogue really wasn't necessary in my opinion. It almost made the characters seem a bit confusing. The internal dialogue would state one thing but what the character was actually saying was the complete opposite. Emilia was supposed to be a wholesome character but I was a little confused towards the end when she expressed hatred towards another character. Same with Max. Max was supposed to be giving the sense of winning her heart but his internal dialogue made him sound almost a bit sleazy. Like I said earlier, I like the premise of the book, the storyline has good potential but overall, it falls just a little bit short for me.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This was the first time I've read anything by this author and I absolutely loved it! A man that was so caught up in his mother and her illness is rare and hard to find but oh so lovely. The transformation in his views, demeanor, beliefs were overwhelming and life altering. The relationship developing was phenomenal and irrefutable. You will love this book! Dare you!
OMG It's hard to put down how much i loved this book from Lan, I really enjoyed reading about Max and Emilia, I found i connected very quickly with the characters and the story was so well written i had a hard time putting it down, over all i say this is a must read from Lan. And I'm looking forward to reading what she writes next.
I absolutely loved reading this book!!! This was one I couldn't put down. The characters are true and real. They make you completely fall in fall with them. The writing was amazing and the story was one that gripped me from the first page. I could not put this book down once I started. Emotions were so real with these characters that I could truly feel each one with them. This is a must read.
This book had it all for me, love, passion, heat, heart, charity, betrayal and deceit then chuck in some twists and turns. Who can fault it? Without a doubt this story blew me away. I especially loved the extra bit at the end (but longingly wanted a teeny tad more - because greedy).
Great read, I loved the characters and the storyline. The only disappointment was how she ended his dad's story. It felt unfinished to me and I'm not sure I would find the " New Max" leaving him homeless. And I would have liked hotter sex scenes. But as a romance book I really liked it
Such a precious story! This author did a wonderful job of making us fall in love with the characters. You could feel the love throughout the whole book. I can't wait to read more from her!
Complimentary copy provided by author for an honest review. This is my first story from Lan LLP and I was hooked from the first page till the last one, my god my feelings were everywhere.
This is my 1st read from Lan, and guaranteed not to be my last. Clean Slate was an amazing story that held my attention completely from page 1. Main characters Emilia Young and Max Reid pretty much sucked me in with their individual goals in both love lives and their humanitarian work.
Emilia is still struggling with the devastating loss of her parents and sister during humanitarian aid in Vietnam, she is now super close to grandparents Nonno and Nonna , is engaged to a powerful attorney and owns her own Italian restaurant. But life for Emilia is not good, her relationship with fiancé Brad is in rocky ground at best. His constant want for her money from her parents death, and his standoffish tactics in the bedroom make life no better. Heading back to Vietnam to continue her parents work at an orphanage is the last chance for her and Brad. If they can't do this together then their relationship is all but over.
Owner And CEO of Reid Corporation, James maxwell Reid is filthy rich, has a never ending list of women to warm his bed it is his sick mother who gives Max the best gift. Her deathbed wish for him is to find a woman and make his life complete. He never imagined hitting her with his car would be the answer. But instead of yelling this woman just told him not to worry about it, a bit of duct tape will fix it then drives away leaving him dumbfounded.
4 months on and Max is no closer to finding his duct tape girl, but with the death of his mother makes a decision to follow her humanitarian ways and books a trip to Vietnam to help a struggling orphanage.
While waiting for his flight he is shocked to encounter a terrible breakup and find duct tape girl. Unbelievably they will spend the next 2 weeks together, but problem number 1 - she doesn't remember or realise who he is, and number 2 - a certain doctor that has no problem claiming his Em.
Enter alpha Max, he must now open up to a vulnerable Emilia dealing with so much on her shoulders. But her push on mentality makes Max discover there is more to life than women, money and fast cars. This gorgeous woman makes Max open up to a Clean Slate.
Going from arrogant CEO to sweet man in a number of days really opens Emilia's eyes. She sees huge difference in this man as he opens up to her about his father walking out, his mother's death and his want for someone for him... Although he knows it is Em that fills that spot proving to her he is a good guy is not as easy as he thought.
After close living quarters and a terrible storm Emilia and Max share a special bond, one bit many people understand and just when she gives into him he leaves her and returns to the US for a work emergency. As this story told in both pov's are aware of the emergency that requires his attention back home but Emilia sees it as a walk out. He got her to sleep with him and now she is left with nothing.... Just like Brad all over again.
After 2 weeks she returns home and finds her life is in a much worse position now than when she left. Her restaurant has been closed down and her ex fiance has done the worst n on to of a broken heart Emilia is at her wits end. The final nail for her is to discover what maxwell has done. Life can't get much worse right??? Well it does but not all is bad.
A Clean slate will change everything for Emilia Young and Max Reid but not without some serious fighting from both parties. With plenty of yelling, kissing, make ups, break ups and murder. Everything will be an uphill battle for Max to prove he is a good guy but proving it doesn't come from Emilia. He must face up to her grandparents, best friend and hos children to prove what she means to him. Giving in will take more courage than Emilia has ever known. Opening her heart once had it smashed to pieces she can't bear that happening again. Never fear, this alpha male will turn her but at what cost?
*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***
I have not read a book by this author before but the blurb sounded like it could be a nice but interesting romance.
With our Main Male Character, Max Reid, being a Billionaire that has been focused on one thing - being the best and therefore proving a point to his father who left without a backwards glance when he was a kid, he is a typical Billionaire, and the only person who has any sway is his ailing mother, her dying wish was for him to listen to his heart, that giving money was not enough, he had to give some of himself too
“Give from your heart, not your wallet.” I guess this is a valid point to listen too, as yes we can give money to charity, but if we give of ourselves wouldn't that be better? So I enjoyed Max's journey as he discovers that there is more to this world than being the Best and having millions in the bank.
Emilia Vitalia Young, the girl-next-door who believes happiness comes from putting others first. But she finds it very hard to keep that mission statement since the tragedy that struck her family. With an unsympathetic Fiancee who leaves her reeling with the news that he is not sure that he wants to marry her after all, she sets off to Vietnam to help out at an orphanage there.
With her focus on keeping her family’s tradition of 'Giving' alive. She sets off to Vietnam to help at one of the Orphanages there and try and figure out what she will do with her life when she gets back to the States.
When Max also trying to keep his promise to his mother signs up to help at the same Orphanage, the pair meet and the result changes the course of both their lives.
OK - here are my thoughts:
My favourite part of the book were the parts in Vietnam, and I guess the author being from there may be the reason why this part felt more alive.
My Least favourite part - was the drama that transpired when the pair get back to the states. - it was too predictable, as in that the pair couldn't just have a happy ending - no there had to be more drama and intrigue added.
I feel that the plot could have been tighter, the storyline seemed to drag quite a lot at the beginning and I nearly stopped reading. But I kept going and, in the end, I am glad I pushed myself to the end.
The Characters - I liked Emilia but I couldn't understand why she stayed with her fiancee so long until I got to a point in the book, then I realised why the author pushed it on for so long.
Max, his character did not gel properly for me, he was at some points a dominant alpha, wanting Emilia to submit to him, then he would swing to being soft and gentle. His character felt like the author was trying too hard to make him too much of a FSOG Mr Grey!
We were introduced to other couples in the story that to me could have been halved - unless they will be the main characters in a spin-off book? This is where for me I feel that these extra characters could have been tightened up to make the story flow better.
The Epilogue that tied up ends seemed rushed, and also tried to tie up too many loose ends, but then introduced Max meeting someone that was left open and not really concluded, and left me feeling that it had either been thrown in as a quick closure or that it was left like that so that if the author wished there may be another book in the future with these characters.
We had a bit of Suspense and drama thrown into the plot with the help of the Ex's (that was the predictable part, i just saw it coming from a mile away)
I think I would have preferred to have had more of the 'Orphanage' and less of the trivial States scenes as in my opinion the characters at the orphanage were more interesting and I wanted to know what happened to them more than what went on with one of Emilia's friend's.
Emilia Vitalia Young is the super sweet girl next door that people can't help but to love, as she would do anything for anyone, even if it means she goes without. Her family has always taught her that happiness comes from putting others first. When tragedy strikes, it breaks her wonderful heart, and she finds herself with the family business, and a large inheritance that she has a hard time touching, although she decides to keep her families dreams alive. Successful CEO James 'Max' Reid is a self made billionaire who fully enjoys the fruits of his labor. But when his mother is dying, she's very concerned for him, so she makes him promise to give from his heart, not his wallet, and Max has no choice but to keep his promise after she dies. Emilia and Max encounter each other at the Vietnam orphanage, which shakes both of their worlds up. The instant connection is powerful, but she is cautious, as she recognizes that he could completely shatter what's left of her heart. With a chance at a clean slate, will fate step in for these two brokenhearted people to heal each other?
WOW! This is the first book that I've read by Lan LLP, and boy I never saw it coming! My dramatic girly girl emotions are flying everywhere, and I can't help but want to gush like the new fan girl that I am. The character development is great, with a very entertaining cast of secondaries that are, also, simply amazing! Between all the emotional angst, the simmering chemistry boils over into volcanic HOT sexy scene goodness that had me sweating a time or two. Lan LLP is a very talented author with an easy writing style that reeled me in from the very beginning, and I didn't move until the very end. Her characters have a permanent place in my heart, and I physically felt every emotion that they felt, like it was my own. Her twists and turns made for great OMG moments, and the big one that blindsided me, made for the f-bomb parade raining down. I CANNOT WAIT WAIT WAIT to read more by this awesome author, so guess what?! I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE THAT READS!
James Maxwell Reid millionaire CEO has always put matters of the heart on the back burner, except for his mother, his mother was his world and with her dilapidating illness her wish for her only child is to give not just his money but his time and effort to a worthy cause and find his heart. After his mother's death Max finds himself agreeing to go to Vietnam to work in an orphanage for 2 weeks, where he meets Emilia Vitalia Young, the young woman he was in a fender bender with and couldn't get out of his mind.
Emilia has her own demons, dumped by her fiancé before the trip to Vietnam, and haunted by the memory of her parents and sister's death Emilia is going to Vietnam to do what she loves, helping the underprivileged.
Max and Em spend time bonding over the work they're doing for the orphanage and one thing leads to another. But that doesn't mean they get their HEA, as Max returns to the US and a whole different set of issues awaits the couple... can they over come business issues, ex issues, restraining orders, legal problems, restaurant issues, rodents, a baby birth and a gun shot?
Well I thoroughly enjoyed reading that, I wasn't sure what to expect, but loved it. Wasn't expecting a cameo appearance of Carson and Lily Bradley, was a wonderful surprise!
The story was told from both perspectives, and it was well written, with engaging characters and a good story line. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Highly recommend this book
Max and Emilia make you believe in good and that everyone can have a Clean Slate and start again. Upon finishing it felt like my soul had been nurtured and fed by these two characters - a wonderful romantic story of two people and a beautiful future together.
Best first kiss I have read in a very long time - my god Max can kiss a girl and their sexual scenes were written beautifully with so much passion and heat - I was not disappointed.
Loved watching Max returning from Vietnam, answering all our questions and then over a few weeks engraining himself into repairing Emilia's shattered heart. It was just fantastic, gave me butterflies and allows you to believe in fairytales and true romantic gestures.
This takes a surprising twist of danger with both Emilia and Max and their past partners and gives a great suspense element.
Emilia's family were a great bunch of characters who provided humour to the story along with the emotional support for her. It was interesting to see the incredible differences in the lives of Max and Emilia and how they grew up and evolved as adults.
I loved this story and we also get to see Carson & Lilli again from Lan's The Forever Trilogy.
Quote: "Uncomfortably, muffin top stuffed" - Emilia describing after Max has fed her!
Well what to say.... He book has a huge ton of background and detail of our two main characters, which is good it helps see. Who they are and how they change.
Max has been closed off emotionally to the out side world only a few and then that's only his mom who has seen who the real max is. Looses his best friend so to say when she's passes holding his promise he signs up to help on a two week mission it vatenam only to discover himself while working at a local orphanage. But he also finds more than himself but the one who steels his heart
Emilia has been through a world of hurt by not only the loss of her parents but her baby sister too while they were doing what they loved helping the less fortunate. With a broken hear she continues her parents legacy and heads over see to fallow in their footsteps. Only she finds the one thing she never though she was worthy of love
Now I've barely scraped the surface of this book so if you want more you need to read it yourself it's hot its sexy make you scream don't go out there but you will fall I love with max and Emilia before you know it
I really loved this book. The characters were great, and the setting was beautiful. I had never heard of this author before Clean Slate, and I will definitely be reading more of her books.
I received a copy of this book when I participated in the Clean Slate Blog tour :)
Before Max’s mother died, she meant everything to him. When her dying wish was for him to “Give from his heart, not his wallet” he knows that he needs to honor that wish. In a last minute decision he signs up to help with charity work at an orphanage in Vietnam. He doesn’t expect he will find the love of his life there.
Emilia’s life had been turned upside down after a tragic accident. When she decides to volunteer at Hearts for Keo Binh, an orphanage in Vietnam, she doesn’t expect to fall in love, especially not with a man like Max. When she finds out who he really is back in Chicago, can she trust that the feelings he has for her are real?
Clean Slate is all about finding yourself and starting over. It was a great story and I really loved it. I especially loved the characters from the orphanage and the children. This book had me reading all day until I was done. I highly recommend it!
So I am a huge fan of this author. Her Forever series is beyond amazing so if you haven't read those then you are definitely missing out. And as much as I love Carson and oh I do, Max really gave him a run for his money. He might have slid into first place and that was a really hard thing to do. Max is just one of those characters that you are attracted to and fall in love with from the get go. Emilia, yeah she was about as sweet as she was sassy and I loved her character as well. Put them together and you have perfection. This book really had it all for me. I was hooked from the first page and didn't put it down until I hit the end and when I did get to the end I really didn't want it to be over. That's how much I loved these characters. This author has a way of drawing you in and holding your heart throughout the whole book. Definitely recommend!! This was easily a 5 star read for me!!
Lan writes from the heart with extreme innocence but with a smutty undertone. This book is really all about trust and finding that soul mate to believe in. Max and Emilia are the main characters that are thrust together to help other people. It's a story of taking that leap of faith and not going on past experiences. They both have big hearts and you are hoping that there is a happy ever after for them. It's an easy flowing book and you immediately fall in love with the delectable Max and even the kind hearted Em. You will notice characters from Lan's other books but you don't have to read them as this is stand alone. Lan's writing has grown in depth and I'm looking forward to her next books. She writes from the heart and soul. Well done!
This is my first experience of this authors writing. I will certainly be coming back for more. I'm so pleased I bothered, because she certainly knows how to put her words together. The book is generally an easy flowing read. I won't go over the synopsis as its no bother, to find on here. The story is very original and sweet. The characters are accessible enough to be-friend and become attached to. I did however feel the story was a little slow in places and a very personal preference is to be able visualise the characters little quirks and I couldn't always do that. But that being said, I will definitely look out more of Lan's stories as I love the way her mind works ! This book should definitely be added to your TBR !
Again Lan gives us a heartfelt story. Emilia has been through so much but still has such a wonderful outlook on life. Max is CEO of a comes across as a jerk until he rear ends Emilia. She is so laid back and not the least bit upset that he hit her car. From that point on Max is a changed man. I truly enjoyed the storyline. From betrayal, to romance, and most of all the way the characters find ways to help those in need!! The ending was super sweet. This is a great read that leaves you with a smile! Thanks Lan for another great read. Keep the books coming you're doing a great job!
I love your books! The only thing its why the men always had to go an chase the woman even if she wasn't right, i think some times the female can go after the male wen we are in the wrong and the men can have a little more dignity an pride. Just my humble opinion
I love your books! The only thing its why the men always had to go an chase the woman even if she wasn't right, i think some times the female can go after the male wen we are in the wrong and the men can have a little more dignity an pride. Just my humble opinion
Just when you thought Lan's writing could not beat the Forever Trilogy along comes Clean Slate! Another fantastically written, character relating, heart achingly, steamy, sexy, sucks you in, unexpected twists and turns book, I do not wish in this review to go into the plot and spoil the story for anyone waiting to read it over than to say you will never ever look at duct tape and chalk in the same way ever again!!!
This book is definitely 4 stars. I loved the characters and how they seem to come off the page. It was brilliantly, funny and very compelling. There were times I couldn't put it down. I have to admit that sometimes Emilia's capacity to jump to conclusions was a bit annoying. I understand the cynicism but it contradicts her nurturing and selfless nature. What a beautiful romance. I really enjoyed this story.
