After several years as a college English instructor (where she savored her “fun books”—usually historical romances—on the side), Emma turned her love of page-turning, richly historical stories into a career. She lives in drizzly Seattle with her husband, their daughter (the wee lass) and a crazy cat named Oban (after the town in Scotland or the whisky made there, depending on who you ask).

Thorolf was a ship maker who worked for Jarl Brunn making his ships. He was talking to a friend who had come to trade for wood to take back to the west. He wanted Thorolf to go back with him but Thorolf refused knowing he would never go back because of his past in the pictlands. As they are talking a longboat moves into the dock. The longboat was the one that Thorolf had made for the Jarl who hadn’t paid him for it. When all the men got off he sees a women tied up being drug off the boat by Hildir. She is about to fall into the water until Thorolf catches her at the last minute. When they touch they find familiarity. Bridget realizes Thorolf is able to speak her language and begs him to help her. She is taken to the Jarl where she realizes she will be his slave. Thorolf is torn between minding his own business or saving Bridget. When Jarl Brunn turns aggressive towards Bridget he steps in to save her.
Loved this Viking novella. It was a great continuation of the Viking Lore series. It picked up with the story of Feitr (who is now Thorolf, the hero) from Desire's Hostage, the previous book in the series. I liked both the hero and heroine--Thorolf has a dark past, but learns to overcome it because of his feelings for Bridget. Bridget is warm and optimistic, despite her people's cruel treatment of her. I also really enjoyed the touch of magic in the book--it's understated, but Bridget has a healing gift that brings her and Thorolf together. I felt like I got to travel to 9th-century Norway, Orkney, and Scotland with this short, sweet tale. I recommend it as a great continuation of the series or even as a stand-alone novella!
When Bridget is captured by Vikings and taken to the Northlands, in a split second decision, Thorolf saves and then helps her escape. But both are caught up in secrets of their own, and yet the yearning that they have for each other is obvious from the very start. Both hold secrets, both are afraid of the paths they must take, but as their love grows, each will give the other the strength to carry on. Emma Prince crams an awful lot into this short but oh so sweet emotional, passionate adventure. All her books in this wonderful series capture one's imagination taking you to a world of time gone by. I loved it!
In this Viking series, Emma Prince does for Viking lore what Kathryn Le Veque does for medieval sagas! Medieval historical romances are my all time FAVORITE reading material and I ventured out of my comfort zone to read this series and was thrilled to discover the talented writing style of this author! I loved learning about this time period and devoured this entire series, truly couldn't get enough! Could picture, hear, feel and smell every scenic detail through her descriptive writing! You, Ms. Emma Prince are a talented Goddess!
Another great tale from one of my favorite authors! Always exciting, links to other stories and let's us see further into these characters lives. This one was not quite as long being it's only a novella, so that's a bit disappointing but good to see what became of Feitr. Love how these are stand alone stories, but if you have read them all, they link together. I also appreciate the historical notes at the end! Good read!
I loved this story- the healing of Thorolf (the former slave, Feitr). He had enslaved himself in the 7 years since he was set free at the end of Desire’s Hostage & it took a strong woman to help set him free from his fears of truly living!
I thoroughly enjoyed this series of books and I’m rather sad it’s at an end!!!
Each book is full of historical references and facts.
It was very short story, but with a lot of intrigue, action, and romance. It moved very fast. It kept me wanting something to go right for these two, but if you just keep riding the waves, it has ending worth waiting for. This author never disappoints. I highly recommend, as I do all her books.
‘Thor’s Wolf,’ is a novella following the third book in the Viking Lore series. It was as also a pleasant surprise reading up of Feitr and the man he becomes. It truly was a heartwarming read!
