Kristie fell out of love with Christmas in D.C. when her father died three years ago. But this Christmas is different now that she’s engaged to Zach. She’s ready to embrace the spirit of the season again, at least until she catches Zach with another woman on her way to the National Tree Lighting. She confronts him and runs out of her nightmare, but arrives at Presidential Park just in time to trip over a dream…
A.J. Dawson is back home in D.C. after a whirlwind global music tour. All he wants is to celebrate a quiet, traditional D.C. Christmas with his socialite almost-fiancée, Sabrina, but she’s got different ideas—A.J. serving at her beck-and-call, hanging on her arm at high-class parties, while ignoring his every wish, except one. Fed up, he’s determined to enjoy the season his way and makes his way to the National Tree Lighting, a moment too late to get in before the gates closed, but just in time to fall for the right girl…
When they are unexpectedly parted with only each other’s first name, can a Missed Connection ad and a little Christmas magic bring them back together?
K. L. Brady is a D.C. native but spent a number of her formative years in the Ohio Valley. She’s an alumnus of the University of the District of Columbia and University of Maryland University College, earning a B.A. in Economics and M.B.A., respectively. A lifelong Washington football fan, she's a professed nerd-girl who loves all things Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Big Bang Theory. She's a member of Romance Writers of America, International Thriller Writers, the Maryland Writers Association, and Sisters in Crime and lives to write novels, especially those involving hilarious quirky characters looking for love. She is hard at work on her next several projects including the sequels to HER PERFECT CATCH (part of the Valentine's Pets and Kisses box set) because girls love football, too!
Sweet, Spicy and So Good! Kristy, a law student, is paired up with sleazy Zach because he works for her parent's law firm. When she catches him with his hands and lips all over another woman, she runs away and literally trips over the man of her dreams. The problem: A. J. Dawson is a famous and successful singer who lies about his real identity and when all is revealed, Kristy is stuck broken-hearted for the second time. Should she give up on love or give A. J. a chance to explain?
The secret to an excellent novella is that even though it is short on pages it still delivers on a full story. Five Golden Rings starts by giving us Kristy and A.J.'s backstory. I instantly felt a connection to both of them and wanted them to "win" at the game of love. And, when A.J. said this I had to stop, think about something personal, and then refocus on the book:
"But I've come to learn that stuff isn't important at all. What you need to ask yourself is, when you come home, do you have someone you can talk to who will understand you, even if they don't always agree with you? Do you have someone you can trust? Do you have someone who believes that compromise must go both ways, that it's not always one person making the effort? And when special times like the holidays come around, do you have someone who will go to the tree lighting with you? Even if they don't want to be at the tree lighting, it's ok as long as they're with you?"
Brady is one of the few authors I unconditionally support. Her books are always entertaining and well-written. But, my most favorite aspect of her writing style is that she writes realistic characters. All of the females in her books either remind me of myself, of my girlfriends, or at least some type of situation that could happen to us. Five Golden Rings is a welcomed addition to my K.L. Brady collection and it was a great way to kickstart my excitement for the holiday season!!
I usually wait to start Christmas stories until after Thanksgiving, but the cover of this book kept begging me to pick it up and read it, so I decided to quit fighting it and pick it up. Boy, I am glad I did too.
This was a magical and fun read. It brought forth an incredible love story with an awesome meaning of how these characters celebrated the meaning of Christmas and brought two strangers together. I absolutely loved the meaning behind the title of the story. The author was a genius when she wrote this story. I have to say that this story filled my heart and soul and helped me remember what Christmas really means. I feel as if the spirit of Christmas has been rejuvenated back into my heart this year by just reading this story. It's a beautiful Christmas romance with a touch of comedy added. I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!
I won a paperback copy of this book and I am sharing my review. No remuneration was exchanged.
I loved the concept of this story and I am a true believer in fate. I also learned something about myself and few girlfriends. Being in an dead end relationship solely out of some obligation or one good thing your mate has done is no reason to overlook any hurt they cause. Some women tend to settle when we think we owe our long time mate another chance fully knowing the relationship was dead long before. I'm glad Kristie didn't settle.
This could have been subtitled Murphy's Law. Just about everything that could go wrong for AJ and Kristie went wrong in the worst way possible. It was really easy to get invested in seeing them get their happily-ever-after.
This was a funny and well written Christmas Novella. It's a short read, but you get a complete story with a lot of laughs. I also enjoyed the characters through out the story, and I am happy as to how it ended. The Author did an awesome job with this book.
This story was so sweet that it reminded me of a Hallmark Christmas movie. There were parts that made me laugh out loud and others that made me teary eyed. Excellent pace of the story, very well written and I loved the chemistry between A.J. And Kristie. This was definitely one of the best Christmas stories I’ve read this year. Can’t wait to read more from Ms. Brady!
A sweet romance that had me giggling at the situations and conversations while hissing at a couple of the secondary characters. A.J. and Kristie undertook a fantastic adventure to come together. I love a book when destiny plays a key role in the characters’ lives. If you aren’t in the Christmas spirit yet, this book will put you in it for sure.
This was a really cute Christmas novella with a lot of humor and likeable characters. This could easily be a Christmas movie for Lifetime, Up or Hallmark. Yes, it requires a lot of suspension of disbelief, but that's the norm for these type of novellas.
A magical Christmas love story. A rather unique meeting is how these two found love. Big risks to go after a love like this. The 12 days of Christmas song is just too cute. This story did include some sexual heat - so not as clean as some of her novels.
This was just the Christmas book I was looking for to put a smile on my face. The two main characters are likable and the plot had enough twists to keep me turning the pages and staying engaged. This book is well written and enjoyable.
Five Golden Rings is the perfect holiday read. Kristie is a play it by the rules type of girl. She chose a major her parents support, giving up on her dream career so to stay in their favor. A chance meeting at a magical place literally has her doing a face plant on her normal view of life. A.J. Dawson has it all. A successful music career, a charming personality,a giving spirit, and a super model girlfriend. Yet, he is lacking the Christmas spirit and tries to reignite the joy of his favorite holiday. A chance meeting with a stranger sparks the holiday spirit in him and leads to an unexpected Christmas joy. A very light and feel good read!
Great read. It seems as if we all look for the right one and settle for the wrong for the time being and the convenience. But ohhhh when the right one comes along.....
loved the story of these destined lovers. Part of me expected Sabrina to pop up again towards the end, but thankfully she didn't. The author did a great job of weaving Kristie and A.J. around each other, I thought. Now I want some onion rings. ;)
