Melbourne Memories
Having never been to England, on a yacht or enjoyed coffee art, this novel took me places I’ve never been or experienced. The different cultures and experiences were described so cleverly I felt I was there with the characters. The story had just the right amount of suspense and introduced some colourful characters. I loved seeing the grace of God at work in the character of Justin. Well worth reading.

Next door Santa
A delightful story. I found Bridie lovable from the moment she was introduced and Will was a reserved, intriguing character I connected with more and more as the story progressed. Will and Bridie have both lived through pain which ultimately connects them, restoring Will’s desire to live life to the full and giving Bridie the support she needs. A few tear-jerking moments and a perfect ending. I want to read more from this author!

Seaside Christmas
I loved reading about places I know in this story about Gus who has a political career in Canberra, and Chelsea who lives in Sydney. I live inland so thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the beaches of Sydney again (a holiday location for me) through this author’s ability to create a strong sense of place. More importantly, I enjoyed the spiritual aspects of this story. To go so deep in such a short story takes a gifted writer. Having read Narelle Atkins’ other works, I expected nothing less from her.

A Christmas Resolution
Rose Dee never fails to delight with her equal share of suspense, spiritual depth, romance and colourful characters. I love redemptive fiction and this author writes it well. It was special to be able to return to Kiisay Point and catch up with characters I grew to know and love in the Resolution series. In this novel we are introduced to Troy and Breeah who need to reconcile with their past and restore damaged relationships. Captivating and beautifully expressed.

All is Bright
A heart-warming read. After reading A Simple Mistake and liking the character, Josh, I was delighted to be able to read his story and connect with him on a deeper level in this funny, clever novel. The quality of Andrea’s writing never disappoints. The author clearly understands people. The character, Amy, is real in every way and Josh, though only a supporting character in A Simple Mistake, is rounded and believable. He remains true to his personality in this story. Probably my favourite story in this set.

Falling for Maddie Grace
An entertaining, fast-paced story which doesn’t shy away from big issues. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this story which cleverly captures the Aussie football culture – a big part of Australian life. I became very involved and loved Zach and Maddie. Although this story would not have been realistic without the typical response from the media and football culture, it has some expressions more conservative Christians might object to. I always enjoy Meredith’s stories and was not disappointed with this one!

I would rate these 5 star except that there were several errors - only minor, but they jarred me from the stories (e.g using the word 'emulating' when the author meant 'emanating', a typo where 'Birdie' was used at one point instead of 'Bridie' etc.) Easily fixed, yet distracting at the same time. Maybe I've been spoiled by the previous books of these authors which were more polished.

I was given ‘An Aussie Summer Christmas’ (for free in exchange for an honest review) in the middle of an incredibly busy time in my life. It was a perfect de-stresser in those few spare moments that I could snatch here and there. It’s an easy to read, enjoyable, very ‘Aussie’ set and I recommend it for anyone who wants a pleasant, relaxing read over the Christmas holidays (and let’s face it…who doesn’t?!).

My only concern with this box set was the apparent lack of appropriate boundaries between some of the couples, however, I appreciate that these are romance stories, not case studies in Christian dating!

The concept of the set is great and each story has its highlights, which I will briefly summarise below:

Melbourne Memories (Mario Ueckermann)
I really liked that the male protagonist was a genuine believer – one who was unashamed of his faith and completely reliant on God. The 3D foam art was also an interesting concept I’d never heard of!

Santa Next Door (Lacy Williams)
The journey from unlikable to hero is very appealing in this story. I appreciated Lacy’s storytelling and realistic dialogue. An enjoyable read.

Seaside Christmas (Narelle Atkins)
As a ‘PK’ myself, the Pastor’s Kid scenario resonated with me. I’ve seen so many PK’s walk away from God because of the weight and pressure of expectations – either from the church, their parents or both. It was pleasing and encouraging to read a story of such a complete turnaround.

A Christmas Resolution (Rose Dee)
I want to read all the other books in the series now – the world and characters painted by Rose are very appealing. It was impressive how Rose managed to include and satisfactorily resolve the extra sub-plots – it kept the story engaging and intriguing.

All is Bright (Andrea Grigg)
All is Bright was the stand out novella for me in this collection. It was a great idea for a story and I particularly loved Andrea’s writing style. Her dialogue and descriptions were delightful. It’s a story that made me smile all the way through, except for the times when I felt like crying. Andrea has really taken the time to beautifully craft this story – I loved it and highly recommend it.

Falling for Maddie Grace (Meredith Resce)
A great idea for a story – a true ‘Aussie’ yarn. Throwing the leads together in such a unique way, combined with some amusing headlines (I can tell Meredith had fun with those!) and my favourite conversation with the agent about selfies on the beach made for an entertaining read.

Overall, this set is a worthwhile read and a great Christmas present (either for someone else or for yourself!). Well done to all the authors.

I enjoyed each novella in this set and I fell in love with all the characters. Living in Australia I am familiar with many of the locations mentioned in the stories and this made the reading even sweeter. The novellas are unique with the only similarity being they are set around Christmas. In Australia this is the start of our summer and for many of us living along the coast it means the beach.
The characters are Christian and they are not portrayed as perfect. In fact they all have had struggles they have had to deal with in the past or in the present. My only criticism is I wanted to know what the next chapter holds for each of the couples and I felt I had to say goodbye to friends as I finished each novella. This set is perfect reading as we start the countdown towards Christmas.

I received a free ARC copy of An Aussie Summer Christmas in exchange for an honest review, and what a treat! Novellas are wonderful reading snacks, and in this collection we have six delightful romances. Christmas themed, set in Australia, appealing characters and stories. What's not to love?

The six stories are all quite different, from a reformed bad boy through to a gentle widower. Each author manages to pack a lot of character and story into a small package. My personal favourite was All is Bright by Andrea Grigg. Her story and characters fizzed with warmth and vitality, but the other five stories have also found a place in my heart.

An Aussie Summer Christmas was a relaxing, refreshing, hot chocolate, bubble bath type of read. The stories weren't fluff, they dealt with real issues. It was a joy to be able to sit back and read several captivating stories. Get a copy of this anthology so you can spend Christmas Downunder.

I was offered the opportunity to read and review this set of six novellas, which have been released in time for Christmas. I'll say at the outset that several of these authors are friends of mine, and people I've known for some time. I've even collaborated on a novel with two of them. They have all had loads of collective experience in the romance genre, and their work has been enjoyed by many. It sounded like a great idea to put together this holiday collection, so I was happy to have a read.

It's great to see the hot Christmases we enjoy down in this part of the world get highlighted as they deserve to be. They're the only type of Christmas I've ever known. They might not be the traditional snowy type, but are festive in their own unique way, which is shown in these novellas. It might feel a bit weird for international readers to snuggle by their fires reading about tropical barbecues, yacht races, swimming and sunbaking, but it should be fun. I like to think each of these stories might be taking place simultaneously on the very same Christmas. Given the set's name, 'An Aussie Summer Christmas' perhaps that's the case. Here's a quick run-down of each of the stories. Keep in mind that the threads which draw them together are Christmas and romance.

Melbourne Memories by Marion Ueckermann
Justin Taylor, an ex-rock-star and former drug addict is on the run because he owes a huge sum of money to his old drug dealer, Danny. Ella Anderson is the owner of Barista Art Cafe, the most popular coffee shop in Melbourne. She's attracted to the mysterious stranger with his guitar and wants him to open up to her, while he fears that she'll run away if he reveals too much. The descriptions of the cafe draw me in. I'd love to order a hot chocolate and experience the signature foam art from this story.

Santa Next Door by Lacy Williams
Will Harris is a computer coder who likes his peace and quiet. He resents the happy, noisy neighbour in the unit above his. Bridie Taylor senses that he dislikes her, but doesn't hold it against him. When a sudden emergency throws them together, he can't help warming to her despite himself. It's a lovely story about not judging people on first impressions. She's a very memorable character, as a person who has been through a major health crisis and is now simply enjoying life.

Seaside Christmas by Narelle Atkins
Gus Donovan is a pastor's kid and former party boy who now works for a senator. Chelsea Somers is the girl who was once attracted to him, but felt he friendzoned her after just one date. Now that they've renewed their friendship, will their evident niggling differences be a major issue? For a start, she hates politics, which is his whole life. This story also delves into the complications family situations can throw into a relationship, especially if they've known each other for some time and it hasn't been altogether pleasant.

A Christmas Resolution by Rose Dee
This story either returns or introduces readers to Rose Dee's trademark tropical location, depending on whether you're familiar with her writing. Breeah grapples with feelings for Troy, although she was widely known to have dated his brother Hayden in the past. There is an incident from their history which creates awkwardness between them. And meanwhile, Breeah has discovered evidence of a mysterious romance from her grandmother's past which seems to present parallels to her own situation, if only she can discover the mystery man.

All is Bright by Andrea Grigg
Amy is a self-professed good girl and physiotherapist who knows her life appears to be picture perfect to the outside world. What she never reveals is the turmoil which bubbles beneath, convincing her that her life is second rate and also that she's a far worse person than anyone would believe. Not only has she concealed feelings of irritation and resentment toward her sick sister Tess, who is now deceased, but she's always been deeply in love with Tess' husband, Josh. He meanwhile, receives a letter from his wife beyond the grave, through their solicitor, making a shock suggestion.

Falling for Maddie Grace by Meredith Resce
I hope this story gives international readers a curiosity and appreciation for our great national sport, AFL football. Maddie Grace is one of the first female field umpires, proud to be succeeding in a formerly male dominated arena. During a match, she has a nasty collision with one of the players, Zac Beecham, which knocks them both out. In the aftermath, they discover the media has made all sorts of wild conjectures about their platonic relationship which might jeopardise their careers if taken to the extreme. This must surely be the first AFL romance ever written, and I found myself chuckling all the way through.

I'd recommend this set to ladies who'd like a good beach read over the summer holidays.

There is a lot to love with this collection of Australian-based stories, set in the lead up to the Summer Christmas period. For those of us not from the Northern Hemisphere, it’s really refreshing to read Christmas stories that involve the sun, beach and prawns rather than snow and hot chocolate – and if you are from more northern climes, this collection is definitely worth checking out to discover how those of us ‘Down Under’ celebrate Christmas.

I loved the blend of writing styles from the different authors, from the laugh out loud humour of Andrea Grigg’s ‘All is Bright’ to the heartfelt emotion of ‘A Christmas Resolution’ by Rose Dee. The different settings included were really interesting too, with seaside settings ranging from the beaches of Queensland to Sydney Harbour to Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay – a great way to ‘see’ Australia without having to take that long plane ride!

I really enjoyed the stories, some of which had unique situations. Loved Meredith Resce’s ‘Falling for Maddie Grace’, about the first female referee for the Australian Football League and the tough, big-hearted athlete who literally falls for her. I liked the political element of ‘Seaside Christmas’ by Narelle Atkins, which is partly set in Canberra, the national capital of Australia. I enjoyed the raw honesty of Amy & Josh’s conflicting emotions of ‘All is Bright’ and the regrets of Breeah and Troy in ‘A Christmas Resolution’. The heartstrings are pulled with the authentic character portrayals in Lacy William’s ‘Next Door Santa’, and it’s nice to see Australia’s excellent coffee getting some kudos in ‘Melbourne Memories’ by Marion Uekermann.

If you want a sunny escape this Christmas, do yourself a favour and check out ‘An Aussie Summer Christmas’. You’ll enjoy some good reads, discover some excellent authors, and learn a little more about Christmas done the Aussie way.

Aussie Summer Christmas

First I have to say that the reason I gave this box set only 4 stars is not due to the stories, but the proof reading. I'm a stickler for grammar and punctuation being correct. I had three fantastic English teachers in high school who pushed us to always use the correct words, phrases, and punctuation and when I encounter incorrect usage, I get a red flag in my mind. Back to the book. I have always enjoyed stories/books about or around anything Christmas. All six of these stories are just that. Each is concerning the Christmas holidays and what happens during them. Six romances with perfect strangers to long time friends. I thought this book would be a good read and I found this to be true. I hope everyone who enjoys this type of stories will consider buying Aussie Summer Christmas as a Christmas gift to self.

This one bought me to tears! I think cause it hit home with my brother dying from this disease. What a well written novella. The characters are wonderful. Will a guy who is all business and not into holidays or people for that matter. Has a girl living above him that just annoys him, by her jolly personality. There is a accident that even brings in some changes to both their lives. Can someone break that cold heart of Will's? Read this romantic novella ad find out what happens. 5 star.

Wonderful story. I loved the sweet romance. Can a former boyfriend change so much from what he was? Known as a bad boy! Chelsea isn't sure and is on guard. Gus is big in to politics and may one day become someone very important in it. Chelsea isn't sure she wants to live a life in the limelight. Then she sees something and it is a breaking point. What should she do? Awesome story. Pick up this box set all the stories are wonderful Christian romance stories. 5 star

Rose Dee is a favorite author of mine. Love her writing. I was so pleased to see the characters return from the Resolution series. While there meets back up with a x love one person she would f really love to avoid. Who hasn't changed all out for himself. Then there is Troy the brother whom she had always been friends with. Great story! I could see this in real life happening. Josh wife has passed away and after a few years he is ready to love again. Little does he know someone has been in love with him for a long time. A mystery letter appears and shines a new light on things. Love the characters in this. Very clean romance. 5 star

An Aussie Summer Christmas is a boxed set of 6 contemporary Christian romance novellas set during an Australian Christmas. The settings include Melbourne & Torquay, Sydney, Canberra, Port Macquarie (northern NSW), Brisbane (or perhaps Redcliffe?) and the central Queensland coast (somewhere near Mackay).

Overall, the stories were entertaining and uplifting reads with a strong faith element. I have enjoyed the stories of the four Aussie authors (Atkins, Grigg, Dee & Resce) in the past so was expecting good things :)

Melbourne Memories by Marion Ueckermann was a suspenseful tale of second chances which made good use of Melbourne's beautiful Port Phillip Bay and cafe culture.

Santa Next Door by Lacy Williams was my favourite. A heart-warming and engaging tale of courage, missed chances and seizing the day. My only quibble as a Brisbanite was that it could have been set in almost any coastal Australian town especially as Brisbane doesn't have beaches in quite the same way as Sydney, Perth or Melbourne. Yet this minor hitch didn't stop me from loving Bridie and Will's story.

Seaside Christmas by Narelle Aitkins brought Sydney alive from the first exciting scene - a yacht race on the Harbour. While most of the conflict and tension was resolved half-way through, it was a sweet story showing that true love isn't always a raging fire.

A Christmas Resolution by Rose Dee - I thoroughly enjoyed re-entering the Resolution Island universe and appreciated the elements of mystery and intrigue on a number of levels and how these were resolved in the dramatic finish.

All is Bright by Andrea Grigg had a novel and intriguing situation and Grigg tells the story with scintillating prose and likable and engaging characters.

Falling for Maddie Grace by Meredith Resce - gave an entertaining look at AFL football, the media and celebrity culture with a touch of irony. I couldn't stop thinking for two people trying to scotch rumours, Maddie and Zac seem determined to do the opposite (especially the first night).

This boxed set is a wonderful opportunity to read stories from six accomplished authors as they showcase a sizzling Christmastime downunder – backyard cricket, seafood, yacht races, surfing, football, carols singing and romance.

I must confess I'm finding pulling together a collective review on such a diverse selection of stories challenging, but here goes! :)

This collection of novellas by six popular Christian romance authors offers snapshots of an Australian Christmas. With each story set in a different location, from cosmopolitan (& AFL crazy!!) Melbourne to tropical far North Queensland, readers are treated to a diverse range of traditions & surrounds. The writing of each author is solid and the plots uncomplicated enough to sit within the restrictions of a novella word count, whilst still offering enough meat to get one's teeth into.

Each story had its merits, though I found myself chuckling aloud at the humour, snappy dialogue & witty characterisation employed by Dee & Grigg. I also thought a screen adaptation of Resce's 'Falling for Maddie Grace' would go well. (Sorry, visual reader!!! LOL.)

I found the use of American spelling and terms in most of the stories (interchangeably in a couple) a little disappointing, as it seemed a shame to deny readers the full 'Aussie flavour' (with interpretive dance, where required :) ), especially when that's the main purpose of the series. (I get the whole 'target audience' debate, but figure if one's stuck for meaning, Google is a wonderful tool.) My enjoyment of one of the stories was also diminished somewhat by what I felt to be an incongruous setting. (But don't let this stop you sampling the set.) I suspect it's probably one of those regional locations vs inclusion in a main centre debates, but it left me distracted by, 'But where in __ would you find ...?' questions. This was a shame as, like the other novellas in the set, this story was well written and also broached sensitive themes for the characters to grapple with.

Overall this was an easy selection of reads providing charming insights into Christmas on the 'other side' i.e. the Land Down Under. Well done to the authors for presenting a fresh angle on the Christmas/romance theme. An enjoyable set - although, I do confess I've never understood AFL ... and still don't. LOL.

An Aussie Summer Christmas:
6 inspirational romance novellas

By: Meredith Resce, Marion Ueckermann, Lacy Williams, Narelle Atkins, Rose Dee and Andrea Grigg

As each author takes us to the sandy beaches and beautiful landscapes in Australia, stories of love, forgiveness and emotional get togethers have us on the edge of our seats wanting more. Each character we meet comes into our hearts and connects. Each have their story, their love to share. All the authors have done a super amazing job in giving Australia couples and friends that stay together through hard times and good times. Each read was very inspiring and up lifting. I've grown friends with the characters and gained new authors to add to my reading list as well. A wonderful set that you don't want to miss out on!

Great read! Fun Aussie culture

I very much enjoyed this collection! While some of the timelines are fast, I think the authors did a good job with handling this hard aspect of novellas. A mix of light hearted and more deep themes, the variety of stories offers something for everyone. There are varying levels of faith woven through out, from one that doesn't mention God at all, to a couple that have it woven into every aspect, but never preachy.

There is one story that deals with drug addiction and a couple that deals with the reality of physical attraction. I think it's good for older teens to see the lessons in these types of stories, and would suggest that if your teen reads it, you talk about them as well.

Diving into Aussie culture was so much fun! Definitely going to read more from these authors.

Melbourne memories - 4 stars - Justin and Ella’s story was a great story of changed lives and redemption. I liked the way it wasn't easy for Ella to accept Justin’s story.

Santa next door - 5 stars - what a sweet story! I don't want to give any spoilers so I'll just say that the way things worked out was just right.

Seaside Christmas - 4 stars - though this story included characters from previous books, I didn't feel like I had to re-read them to figure out what was going on in the story. This was not a highly dramatic story, just a sweet story of a couple falling in love and working through differences.

A Christmas Resolution - 3.5 stars - this story was ok, but wasn't my favorite

All Is Bright - 4 stars - interesting concept in this story. I liked how real Amy was and yet how concerned she was about the people around her. And I loved how oblivious Josh was to how Amy was feeling about him. There was a good balance between Amy's resentment towards Tess and her love for her sister so she didn't just end up being a jerk.

Falling for Maddie grace - 3.5 stars - the concept of this book is fun. Zac and Maddie were both likable characters but I didn't feel that an explanation of why they feel for each other was given. The physical attraction was there, but the important part want really developed. I would have liked to have seen that their relationship had more of a reason for happening

Being an Australian, I went looking through Amazon for Australian novels and authors, and was thrilled to come across "An Aussie Summer Christmas", and had to purchase it, despite not recognising the names of the authors. However, upon reading, I felt cheated by the American spelling. As an author, I know American spelling is highly favoured, however, as an Aussie reader, I felt almost belittled in ways, that we, the Aussie readers, weren't good enough to have 'our stories' told in 'our English'. I just felt/feel the full Aussie experience should embrace the Aussie spelling. HOWEVER, even with that in mind, each author had the power to make me laugh/smile, cry, and fall in love with their characters and their writing, so they do not deserve to have any stars removed just because of my spelling preferences.

I would've liked to have seen THE END written at the end of each story, as, on a couple of stories, I wasn't aware we had reached the end and crossed over to the author's commentary. That threw me a bit, but, again, nothing worth penalising the authors for.

My preferences aside, An Aussie Summer Christmas is a collection of charming characters, profound love, good writing, and inspirational messages, and definitely worth investing one's time, money, and heart into. I will be reading these authors again, and I'm already missing the characters each author introduced me to.

And, yeah, they're worth sacrificing the Aussie spelling for. ;)

The novella from this collection: A Christmas Resolution by Rose Dee

This is an engaging story of guilt feelings, misconstrued conclusions, and finally forgiveness. It leads the reader through the process that true forgiveness comes when a person develops a growing relationship with God.

Breeah, Annemarie, and Troy had been childhood friends who experienced all the wonderful things available to children living near the water. Their friendship continued until after high school graduation when a guilty secret between Breeah and Troy drove her far away from her childhood home. Her sudden departure left Troy devastated and full of guilt as well.

For ten years they both lived with the guilt and wrong conclusions until Breeah returned home at Christmas time to sort out her inheritance. She soon found that much more than her inheritance needed to be sorted out.

When all looked hopeless, the author revealed that with God in charge of one’s life, wonderful things are possible. All readers that enjoy inspirational romance will not be able to put this novella down.

An Aussie Summer Christmas is a group of six romance novellas set in Australia by six different authors. There were many authors I hadn’t read before and am so glad I chose to pick this group of books up.

I love Rose Dee. She is the reason why I read this series and her book in the series, A Resolution Novella: A Christmas Resolution was great how it updated me on how the characters in her other series are doing now while introducing me to a new set of characters to love. I also loved her theme throughout the book of redemption and how if God forgives us when we truly repent, we’re calling Him a liar if we don’t forgive ourselves as well.

All six of the books were intriguing, captured my attention and kept my interest and had great messages woven throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and it definitely put me in the mood for Christmas, which is already around the corner!

"I was given a complimentary copy of this book and here is my honest review."

Melbourne Memories by Marion Uekermann *** I Liked It
This Christian Romance begins with a Suspense that simmers in the background for most of the novella. It is light entertainment and quick to read.

Santa Next Door by Lacy Williams *** I Liked It
This is a sweet, clean read Romance novella that's entertaining and quick to read. It has an Aussie setting and the Christmas lunch was typically Australian but the characters didn't seem very Australian. In fact, when one of them said, "Okay," I realised the author probably wasn't Australian.

Seaside Christmas by Narelle Atkins *** I Liked It
I think what I enjoyed the most with this novella is the locations. I liked reading about places I was familiar with around Sydney, Canberra and the Southern Highlands.

A Christmas Resolution by Rose Dee *** I Liked It
This is an entertaining Rom-Com set in a small coastal town in North Queensland. It is fun novella that is easy to read in a single sitting with some great commentary on forgiveness and second chances after big mistakes.

All Is Bright by Andrea Grigg *** I Liked It
Josh and Amy have an interesting story; theirs is a sweet romance. This novella is easy to read in a few hours.

Falling For Maddie Grace by Meredith Resce *** I Liked It
I liked that part of the story is set in the seaside town of Torquay. I also enjoyed the Aussie colloquialisms and humour.

These six amazing authors will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next in these books. The characters in these books are truly amazing people. You will feel God working throughout this whole box set. You won't be able to stop reading these books. This set deserves a higher rating than a five star review.
