Shiko is one of my favorite Brazilian authors, so as soon as this book arrived, I dove right in. It tells a powerful story about misguided faith, exploring how religion can twist people's minds and drive them to commit horrific acts. It feels like a sharp critique of how belief systems can be weaponized, exposing the darker side of organized religion.
The narrative is raw, brutal even, and doesn't shy away from critiquing traditional gender roles through the lens of religious doctrine. Shiko's artwork, as always, is stunning—capturing the intensity and emotion of the story with incredible detail.
As much as I loved it, something about the story left me feeling unfulfilled. It felt like a piece was missing, as though the narrative wasn't fully complete.
That said, it's still a book you absolutely have to read.
