They were high school sweethearts and neither of them thought they would ever be apart. Too bad they were wrong.
Chase joined the navy and tried to forget about the woman who had stolen his heart. Though, late at night as he lay alone in his bed, thoughts of her plague him.
Soma has tried to create a life for her and her daughter. She is able to give her daughter most of the things she need, except her father’s love. She has searched for Chase until she finally finds him. Unfortunately, it has been a year without word. She has given up hope.
Will these two find each other again?
Not suitable for those under 18. Graphic sexual content and language.
Chase and Soma were highschool sweethearts. In love and thinking they'd be together forever. Life had other plans for them though, and when Soma listens to a jealous bitch and accuses Chase of cheating. He then runs off to the Navy without telling her where he is going. Now fours years later he is back home for a visit and runs into a little redheaded girl...
This one was OK. It was super low on angst. In fact, there wasn't ANY angst. This annoyed me, since the story lent itself to at least having a little bit. Everything was WAY TOO EASY.
You have these two young people madly in love and FIRST, the heroine lets a jealous bitch get to her. Now, honestly, that part I could buy. She was young and hormonal and people sometimes act before they think. The part that pissed me RIGHT off, was that here you have a hero who is about to propose, he's ALREADY signed up for the Navy WITHOUT discussing it with the supposed person he loves and is about to marry. THEN when she accuses him of cheating, he just LEAVES for the Navy without so much as a "BU-BYE" That's some awesome love there boyo..
"We have made so many mistakes and yet we made a baby girl that is so perfect.” I whisper to her as I rock her."
Now four years later he is back to visit his friend Peter and runs into the daughter he didn't know he had. Why didn't he know you ask?? Because the heroine couldn't find him to tell him. She didn't KNOW he joined the Navy. So wait a cotton picking minute here. Peter KNEW where he was the WHOLE friggin time. Peter was like an Uncle to the kid. Peter's mom KNEW where he was the WHOLE time as well. He was staying with Peter and his parents before he left for basic. When she turned up pregnant and spent a shitton of money apparently LOOKING for him, why did neither of these people TELL her he joined the Navy?? I can't even...
On top of THAT, everything was just GLOSSED OVER. No resentment (in fact the heroine BLAMED herself...WTF) Chase is telling this poor little girl who has never meet him before "Hey I'm your Daddy" within minutes of meeting her (WITHOUT her mother around) and they are off buying houses and trying for more babies. Don't even get me started at the complete idiocy of him become a bizillionaire after four years in the military..
Wow, so ya, I went off on a little rant there it would seem. Well on a positive note, the sex was hot. So there's that..
This is my second book by this author and so far her books have one very good thing to recommend them and that is they are all SAFE These two are both virgins and have never had sex (oral or otherwise) with anyone else. (Personally, I found it hard to believe as the hero Chase is a Navy Seal and they are known to be a little wild.) But that is the story and they are both each others one and only. So sweet
The story here is simple the hero Chase and Soma have been together since 16. They are so in love and are planing to make a life with each other. Get married, have 2.2 kids, buy a house...the whole deal.
However, and this where the plot lost me, she is told by the village slut that he cheated on her. AND SHE BELIEVED IT? They have THE BREAK UP FIGHT and he joins the Navy, without telling her of course. Because hey they just broke up.
Moving the plot along, of course it turns out that she just had pregnancy brain and she wanted to find Chase to tell him the news, He was her baby daddy. It takes her 4 years to finally track him down. Chase gets a letter from her saying they had things to talk about and that she was sorry for the whole thing. WOW, and that my friend was the end of all the drama. ONE letter saying its all my fault for believe someone else WITHOUT ANY PROOF HERE, and he comes running home to find her. As the story goes on, he then discovers his daughter existence and all that he gave up when he just mentally writes her off with a "F*ck it, I don't need this sh*t" and just left her without a fight or even a backwards glance. (Okay he does not say that but he does just walks away without a fight and leaves her.) He was at fault here too guys, cause he just let her go. WHERE IS THE LIFETIME EPIC LOVE IN THAT?
Any ways, Chase finally decides to man up and take on his responsibilities he thinks: "I want my ring to finally be on her finger and I want another kid growing in her belly. I want to experience it all again, only from the beginning this time. I want the family I planned before I left." "My baby girl without her daddy because my pride was too damn big." "I will never stop trying because a love like this is worth fighting for."(YEAH DUDE GOT A CLUE)
Globally, this book was good, but it was not great. I am glad I read it and can't wait to read more from this author but this book is not going on my keeper list.
Safety: No triggers, no OM/OW drama, no cheating and safe sex condoms used in the past by hero with the heroine.
I want to start by saying I think this author has a lot of potential. This has a decent storyline that needed more fleshing out. Also using some contractions would make the writing flow better. People don't speak without contractions so it made the dialogue seem a bit stiff. I did like the characters and that's half the battle for me. I did like that they both realized and admitted the mistakes they each made that separated them. Do I think this would've been resolved this easy IRL? Probably not. But this is fiction and who knows what's possible when two people have a soul deep love. Anyways, i will read more from this author and watch her growth as a writer.
This was just ok. I know it's a short story but there is sooo much that needed to happen to make the story better than ok. There was history between our H and h and that included a child and that history deserved to be discussed. It wasn't. They went from being a part for 4 years to everything being fine without rehashing and figuring out their past. We were in each of their heads so we know the guilt they both carried over their past actions BUT THEY NEVER DISCUSSED IT!! That lack of communication completely took me out of the story and I found I was having to push myself to finish it. Everything was wrapped up in a neat little bow that was just too much for me. The saving grace of the book was the fact that both the H and h were celibate while they were apart and the little girl was well aware of who her father was. The h never tried to hide that the H was the father and never really tried to keep them apart - it was just a series of unfortunate events that prevented him knowing about his daughter in the first place.
To be honest, I had a difficult time deciding exactly what to rate this story. It checked all the boxes of my favorite things-
-completely devoted H and h-neither had been with anyone else- EVER -celibate during separation -I love a pregnancy storyline -adorable father/baby time -spicy hot sex scenes -no pushing away once reunited
That being said, there was a couple things that bugged me-
-Chase made no attempt to fight for her whatsoever. He just walked away and didn't go back to town for 4 years. He went from being prepared to propose, to leaving her after a fight
-did she question Peters mom? Chase was staying with that family until he finished high school. Surely she knew he went to the military, especially since that is where Peter went as well.
-she blamed herself for the fight. Yes, she was wrong to believe the town skank. She should have at least talked to him before condemning him, but he was wrong too (see above)
I appreciate that they grew up during the separation. They both owned their part in the break up. It was sweet to see them come together again and move on.
I hope that Peter gets a story as well. The set up was there for him and Charlie. I'm sure Martie will be the antagonist in that story as well.
So, I enjoyed this book. It was safe from cheating and abuse, dual virgin, dual POV, no others during separation, not much of an epilogue but I was still satisfied with how it ended. What I had a little trouble with, and let me just say, I get that they were young, didn't know any better and made mistakes, but I wished that the H would have fought harder for the h if he loved her as much as he said. And the h believed the words of someone else over the boy that was her world. But like I said, I get it. They were young. It actually made them grow up and appreciate what they have and will always have with each other. I do have to give much praise to the author that we finally get an H who claims to love the h so much and does NOT stick his happy pole in everything that has a pulse when he is separated from the h, just to try to "forget" her. No, this guy even said there would be no one else that could ever compare, so why bother? We rarely see that on second chance types of stories and I love that the author decided to have the story go this way. This is my 2nd book by this author and I'm going to keep going. I'm kinda diggin' her writing.
You may find it boring but this is the kind of book I loooooove so much. Almost non drama, happily ever after, not so much problems, and soooo many hot and sweet scenes.
