This is a very short but jam packed book that details each step to becoming a freelance writer clearly. If you are thinking of becoming a freelance writer or just want to know what it may entail, this book is a good starting point. I would have liked a little more information about contracts - do I supply them or the client etc. Overall, this book is detailed, clear and enthusiastic about freelance writing. Highly recommended.
A simple, straight forward book with lots of advice for beginning freelancers. The authors explain things well, and give plenty of action steps to take to begin your business. The way they break it down makes it seem a lot less overwhelming.

Make Money as a Freelance Writer by Gina Horkey & Sally Miller A review by Kat Fankhauser-Taylor. http:katfank2.wordpress.com. The authors of Make Money as a Freelance Writer, shared their feelings about the fears that they felt when first starting out as freelance writers. This can be seen by the following except from chapter two: You’ll almost certainly encounter all of these fears as a freelancer. Know that you’re not alone. I constantly struggle with negative thoughts, but I don’t let it stop me. You shouldn’t either. You can become a freelance writer. I’ve already shared the importance of writing despite your fears. The strategies in this chapter will help you do this. You may not need to use all of them. Sally Miller The fear busting method that Sally Miller shares comes from her personal experience when she first started her freelance business. Gina Horkey also shares her experience. The writing is clear and understandable, and allows the reader to feel like an equal, rather than feeling talked down to. They are also relevant to the business of freelancing, and are simple to understand. The authors take turns writing each chapter. Having two voices, instead of just one, reinforces the information taught. Miller showed evidence of her expertise, by referring to one of her earlier books. She used it in conjunction with one of her freelancing jobs. The format of Make Money as a Freelance Writer, is easy to follow. The use of bullet points sets out certain ideas, and reinforces the importance of that particular advice. Every chapter flows well and interacts with one another. The use of ‘action steps’ ensures that the reader can retain the information by completing the tasks set. Again this encourages reader participation. Having links to web pages made it easy for the target audience to find sites that will benefit their freelance business. In chapter three the use of questions for self evaluation allows the reader to seriously think about what type of freelancing work he/she will undertake. The questions are helpful and to the point. Including other freelancer writers experiences personalizes and reinforces the expertise and truths that are being taught in Make Money as a Freelance Writer. Overall, Make Money as a Freelance Writer is a good source for any person interested in becoming a freelance writer.
