I have read both pilot arcs for Superman in the New 52 and this Rebirth era. Without a doubt, the Rebirth story wins. Issue six concludes the first arc of Superman, and it is all about what makes Superman, Superman. Being him is all about character, family and duty.
The New52 Superman has lost touch with what defines the superhero persona. It has deviated so much from what Supes stands for, leaving an annoying brute with issues. Tomasi fortunately brings back that pre N52 Superman everybody loves.
The Eradicator himself on the other hand is a forgettable villain. it is forgivable since the actual focus of this arc is really the Superfamily in their first public exploit.
I hope that this refreshing and optimistic tone of the series continues with the succeeding issues.
Well i gotta admit i haven't been a big fan of this title so far but that was freaking awesome .
So Superman's battle with Eradicator ended in this issue with very satisfying outcomes and some really appetite filling action . The book was filled with Fanservice for Supes fan with many a classic and iconic Superman images re-created and the return of Krypto and Jon Kent finally inheriting the name Superboy was applause worthy.
The art still needs to be improved but overall compared to previous issue the art looked to fit right in for this issue and especially nice when the aforementioned recreation of iconic superman images .
Overall it was a very entertaining issue capping off a fairly average storyline with a Bang and creating buzz of excitement for future issues and the growth of Superboy . For now however the Super Father-son duo need to do some cleaning for Batman
Superman is now charged with the Kryptonian souls abducted by the Eradicator. But will it be enough power to take down the mechanical monstrosity?
This issue is a big, huge slugfest between Superman and the Eradicator. The action is pretty good and I really enjoy the idea that the Eradicator can morph its form like some kind of Terminator. Its a good thing this took place on the moon or there would have been a lot of damage and casualties on earth. Lois and Jonathan are kind of sidelined here, but Krypto gets a few shots in on the Eradicator, so the family does get to play a part. I’m still not a fan of the whole idea that the Kryptonian souls provide some kind of power source, but that seems to be put to rest this issue. Supes seems to leave the inert carcass of the Eradicator on the moon at the end - seems like he’s asking for trouble there.
Honestly, while the fistfight is cool, some of the best parts of the issue are Clark’s interactions with Jon. He demonstrates he’s a good father and he has a bond with his son that goes beyond shared powers. I like the quiet moments quite a bit here. It’s very reminiscent of Gleason’s run on Batman and Robin and the interactions between Bruce and Damien. As a father, I appreciate those moments.
The artwork is high-energy throughout the entire book - intense expressions, big action, bigger explosions - an issue that rivals a Michael Bay movie in some respects. There are several double-page spreads that really accentuate the action and drama and make for exciting storytelling.
A fine wrap-up to this first storyline that illustrates Jon’s place in this book is assured. So it’s not going to all be about Superman, but include his family as well - and that’s a good choice!
Superman defeats the Eradicator & gets the last soul (his dog, Krypto) out of him. The world ends up seeing Superman defeating the Eradicator & decide that Superman is back for good. He gets the keys to the city & all that good stuff.
Jon & Lois have an adorable mother son moment.
Superman give Jon a pair of glasses so that he can disguise himself. I just want to know if he will keep the same name Clark Kent. He has to do something else besides work at a newspaper. People are not that stupid to not recognize him, right?
Superman goes to the Watchtower with Jon & introduces his son to Batman & Wonder Woman as Superboy. Also, he is there so that he can clean up the mess they made on the moon.
Truth be told....I gave up on Superman a few years back, and really never cared for the New 52 version: I always likened him with Lois, and it was absurd to see Wonder Woman and him an item. Ridiculous. Anyways, reading up on Rebirth I decided the Man of Steel deserved another shot. And I'm all in!!!!! This title is not only the authentic, and and true Superman I've grown to love, but the relationship between Clark and Lois, with their son Jon, is also a wonderful and fresh new take on our resident hero. Such a great arc so far, and it's endearing to see Clark/Superman juggle fatherhood with being a hero. I adore seeing all the familiar characters such as Bibbo, Krypto. Great writing by Peter Tomasi...though not surprised, he's a fantastic writer.
The first arc of Superman comes to a close and I enjoyed it. The art was always, every single issue, amazing. The story was alright. I don't think I was the biggest Eradicator fan but I was a huge Jon and Clark fan. The interactions between the father and son were so good. I also enjoyed Lois and her "mom" role. Definitely a library loan for you non-superhero readers.
I would give the first arc of Superman(2016) a solid 3.5 rating. I will be continuing on with the comic run.
Very strong finish from a very inconsistent start. Solid family bonds, good action scenes and poetic ending. Still glad the eradicator nonsense is done with though. Really did not expect a 180 shift of this arc but they managed to do it. Very enjoyable read. Looking forward to what's next for Jon, the Superboy and the Super Family.
