Consultancy, Organizational Development and Change: A Practical Guide to Delivering Value

Rate this book
Organizations are increasingly investing in consulting capabilities to understand what changes they need to make to keep up the pace with the competition and future-proof their business. Consultancy, Organizational Development and Change is a guide for students and internal and external consultants needing to develop the necessary skills to consult in organizational settings where there is a great deal of complexity.

It tackles the issues posing the greatest threat to the success of the change programme, including how to adapt to rapidly shifting needs, deal with the emotional and ethical issues that arise and ensure that the managers take full ownership for the change so that 'business as usual' is established.

Complete with case studies from the 'Big Four' consultancy groups as well as boutique firms, Consultancy, Organizational Development and Change shows how to identify and execute interventions in a variety of organizational settings to deliver value. It provides guidance on how to develop a value proposition; define, write and present the business case for the proposed interventions; establish credibility and report on the results.

A bit of a specialist read, this book seeks out to help external consultants develop and enhance their skills for deployment within complex and challenging consulting assignments. The argument being that companies are increasingly turning to consultancies for help change their own businesses and keep them operating within the bleeding edge.

The book draws on practical advice in case study form from many top consultancies, mixing this in with more academic focussed information to good effect. It has the potential to offer broader appeal, since it examines elements such as developing a value proposition, business case planning and implementation processes, all things that internally focussed employees may also consider.

It can be a case of checking the book out, to see if you can form a direct connection to it. It left this reviewer with mixed feelings, probably through no fault of the book itself. It was well-written and well-referenced, the latter being particularly of value so even if you don’t necessary form the strongest of connections, it may act as a good gateway to additional data.

If you have a specialist need, it may be a worthy addition to your library. For the rest of us, it may be a ‘check and see’ type of book. It can be powerful and of help, but you must ‘get it’ to get the most out of it.

It was ok. Very theoretical with case studies. More in depth analysis of what to do and not so much of the how with relatively little amount of models.
