Everyone's favorite critters are back for another romp through the alphabet in this adorable board book.
Join a charming cast of animal characters as they explore the alphabet in a simplified version of Teagan's beloved Adventures With Barefoot Critters . From gathering honey to building cozy campfires, the friends make the most of every activity, both enjoying the great outdoors and staying snug inside. Learning the alphabet is fun when adventuring with these critters, and children and adults alike will delight in Teagan White's sweet, nostalgic illustrations.
Teagan White is a freelance illustrator specializing in intricate drawings of floral and fauna, playful watercolors of animal characters, and illustrated typography. She is very interested in nature's subtle, gentle reciprocity and wild, tragic discord, and combines this inspiration with nostalgic colors, decorative arrangements of organic forms, and meticulous detail. Her clients have included Target, Papyrus, American Greetings, Random House, Penguin Books, Simon & Schuster, Nike, Honda, Wired Magazine, and the Washington Post, with projects ranging from advertising and editorial to children's books, greeting cards, and textiles.
Though originally from and quite fond of Chicago, Teagan moved to Minnesota to go to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and received her BFA in illustration in 2012. She now lives in Minneapolis, where she spends her tiny amounts of free time following tangled animal paths through forest and field, squishing along reedy riverbanks, attempting to befriend gulls on rocky lakeshores, delighting in the routines of backyard bunnies, picking wildflowers, and collecting animal bones.
Charmingly illustrated, but I cannot really understand why the hell there is a triceratops mingling with forest animals. People, learn some goddammed biology.
So adorable! Loved all the cute, cozy critters (yes, Teagan White manages even to make a triceratops look cozy) and their adventures through imagination and nature. It's a charming alphabet book that reads like a storybook and also travels through the seasons. PS Her dedication is also great: "for anyone who went out and explored while everyone else was bored." ;-)
A charming alphabet book. I love the animals in the illustrations and seriously want to decorate my home with them. The addition of a triceratops to woodland creatures is fun.
Beautifully illustrated and rhyming! Hadn't realized it was an alphabet book before reading. Liliana loved the earthy-hued woodland critters throughtout.
SO VERY BEAUTIFUL. Everything is beautiful; such LOVELY illustrations.
Love that it covers alphabet, seasons, the months of the calendar, friendship, recycling, keeping yourself busy, imagination, etc.! Very much looking forward to the author's next book in this series!
This book is AMAZING. In fact, there's no words that can describe how good it is. I loved the book since the first time I read it. The illustrations and characters are really cute! The author must have used watercolours, which is something I love. It gives me gobliny vibes (goblincore), and from reading the 'about me' of the author, I feel like they have an interest in the goblincore aesthetic too.
This book is simply adorable! I adore the illustrations in this book, as well as the way this story takes readers through the four season, while teaching readers their ABC's.
Teagan White is an author/illustrator whom is now on my radar. I love that she created a children's ABC picture book that teaches kids their abc's by letter identification. Each word that begins with the letter being taught is a different color, so that it stands out for easy identification. For example, for C, she includes the words: catch, colds, can't, and each of those three words stands out among the other words on that page, so that children can easily identify those words.
The illustrations that accompany each page are simply adorable! I love the charming woodland critters, and want to decorate my library with them. The inside flap of the hard cover book has a poster that can easily be framed and hung up. I'm hoping Teagan White has an Esty shop, because I would seriously purchase some of her artwork, it's that adorable. I'm looking forward to reading more of her children's pictures book.
This is a must have book! It's one that will make a great gift.
This is a beautiful picture book that goes through the seasons following the letters of the alphabet. In a way that reminds me of Lizi Boyd's notable picture book Flashlight or Julie Morstad's splendid illustrations for Julia, Child, White's illustrations are those that you may want to gaze at over (and over) again. So much gorgeous detail, done with such precision- I savoured each page of lovely illustration and serene text. I think Teagan White may be one to watch for the picture book scene.
A gently rhyming alphabet book reminiscent of Tasha Tudor's work. The soft pastel watercolor and gouache illustrations show forest animals at work and at play through the seasons. Observant readers will appreciate the story that the detailed illustrations paint that silently supplements the text. And don't miss the poster on the inside of the dust jacket.
“Adventures with Barefoot Critters” is a Picture Book-Alphabet by Teagan White This book has won no awards as of today. I selected this book by doing research online and finding it. This book was created for 3 to 6 year olds. This book is an alphabet book because each page is dedicated to a letter and words that begin with that letter are bolded on the page. The book uses a lot more natural-looking colors and smooth, curved shapes. The entire book radiates calm which is used well to tell the story of the critters as they go about their lives. This book would be great for a couple of things, first it features the alphabet, so it would be great for teaching children their ABC’s. Secondly each of the featured words does great for vocabulary and enhancing reading skills.
I just happened to see this book when checking in at work and was drawn to the beautiful illustrations. The Barefoot Critters go through the alphabet in a unique way and also include all the months of year and seasons. I just LOVE the beautiful illustrations and also the little mouse doing something cute in each picture! I also love that they include collecting honey and exploring in nature. The next book in this series will focus on counting. A beautiful picture book with a unique look at the alphabet with a group of cute critters.
The thing I liked most about this, other than the beautiful illustrations, was that it's different to any ordinary alphabet primer. Each page features a sentence that includes a noun or verb starting with the appropriate letter, from A-Z. For example, rather than just the standard A is for apple, B is for ball, etc. this book features "I - Skate on the ice" or "R - Roast marshmallows". I think this makes the experience a little more engaging and could also be a great way to begin discussing the differences between nouns and verbs at an early age.
An absolutely adorable ABC primer with different activities to do in nature in alphabetical order. The illustrations with the whimsical woodland creatures are darling. From building a bridge, to floating boats, mailing envelopes, lying in the grass, harvesting honey, flying a kite, playing in leaves, finding treasures by the ocean, having a picnic, creating a quilt fort, and roasting marshmallows, there are so many fun ideas for children to try alongside these furry friends. Elliot loves animals, so he’s enjoyed this one!
This was a beautifully illustrated fun little A-B-C book featuring a variety of critters (from a mouse who often is giving a not-mentioned-in-the-story example of an activity or item related to the letter on the page, to a triceratops, to deer, fox, and squirrel) wearing very cozy-core sweaters and outdoor wear, engaged in charming, low-key, simple actions that most every child will resonate with. Don't look for bright colors or extravagant story-lines in this one. This one's for the child who loves cozy and low-stimulation activities, the "old soul" and "sensitive" kiddo.
This came up as a Goodreads recommendation when I reviewed another children's book, and I'm a sucker for picture books with anthropomorphic animals. The barefoot critters have adventures as they move through the seasons of the year, with each page representing a letter of the alphabet and including rhymes that feature words beginning with the specific letters. Cute and colorful, with lovely greens and browns and earth tones throughout.
This book is really cute, maybe too cute for some....but not me! I thought it brought together a lot of great kids book traits in one. Cycled through the seasons and months as well as all the letters of the alphabet in a way that felt like it flowed naturally, wasn't forced. It also had a mouse on each page and other things starting with each of the letters that you had to search for. My two year old really likes it, especially the mixing in of a cute dinosaur with the other woodland creatures
Who adds a triceratops to a mix of adorable woodland creatures? Teagan White, and I love it. You can get lost exploring the details of each illustration, enjoy following along with the alphabet text, or be lulled by the rhythm.
I loved anthropomorphic books as a child, but trying to read more books with humans to my 3.5 YO these days. However, the illustrations are so sweet and the monthly activities perfectly describe seasonal activities so it was a hit.
This book - especially the illustrations and color palette - are super cute - but for some reason it didn't resonate with me. Maybe it was the inclusion of the triceratops, which always struck me as out of place.
There are so many ABC books on the market, but this one is adorable. It isn't just a book of letters and animals, it uses alliteration to teach the letter sounds. The illustrations are adorable and set this book apart from other ABC books.
