Jaz was a clone her destiny was to die. Mick was an A’rouk his destiny was to be alone.
Dying didn’t bother Jaz. She was created with the knowledge that her life was limited, subject to the will of man. That changed the day she saw Mick. Death was no longer a given; she would do whatever it took to live one more day with him.
Mick was born under a curse. The minute he laid his eyes on his mate, death would come for them both. He resigned himself to being alone and defending part of the galaxy from the Darkness until he saw Jazz. Everything changed at that moment.
Mick and Jaz are headed for death as the two of them fight against the forces that would not only tear them apart but leave part of the galaxy unprotected.
Love didn’t always prevail, but it was the only chance they had.

I ask this again, who the heck is Dante! he's like the all-seeing/all-knowing and everyone is a chess piece. it just gets more and more who the hell is Dante. the story is OK, but the whole Dante bring mysterious annoys the heck out of me. same with the winged "demons" we see briefly. also don't forget who shall not be named being saved....
The first book in a series is always a little bit confusing as the author has to lay the plotline down, introduce characters, situations and other necessities to get the storyline rolling. Having not read any other works by this author I feel this was a spin off of another series as some of the players felt like they had been around before and supporting characters seemed to have had their own story. I enjoyed the mystery surrounding the characters and places, while is was romantic based there was a dark undertone making me think I really should have started with the other series fist. Mick and Jaz relationship was unique and the concept behind what Jaz was is really quite interesting. Mick's brothers were intense but none so much as the older brother Dante. He himself is a mystery I am eager to find out as he seems to be more than what he portrays. There was lots of action in this storyline, some drama, humor and danger all rolled up in nice package that made this romance anything but conventional. I really liked this story but I will be reading it again after I first find and read the stories leading up to this one. I volunteered to review this story for my honest opinion.
I have to be honest. I started reading this and I was instantly lost. I felt like I was missing something really huge. Like there was a whole series I missed out on. I was confused a lot of the time. Their story is a bit sad and seems doomed. They do prevail and by the end it was an ok read for me. Its different from some sci fi I've read. However, this just didnt hold my attention as well as I'd like. I recommend if you want to read it put it in your TBR list but read her other series first because I think thats what had me so lost. :)
I've been waiting for this series since I read the Love Me Harder series. I fell in love with the A'rouk brothers throughout the Love Me Harder series and this book has not changed my feelings one iota. Mick and Jaz are fighters through and through. Dante has a BUNCH of secrets that he's not sharing. The plot/story-line is absolutely fantastic and the writing drew me in from the first page. I need to read the next book now! Fabulous story Serena Simpson!
NOTE: You should definitely read the Love me Harder series before this one, as it introduces the main characters in this series and the peripheral characters as well.
I have read all of the series thus far (love me harder plus a'rouk brothers). Overall, the premise is interesting. The characters are likable. Some of the twists are reaching, maybe they could have been explained better with more detailed and completed descriptions. I found sections of each book to drag on or move too slowly. The killing points for me are the improper use of words (I.e. they're/their/there, your/ you're, etc, wonder when it should have been wander, and some confusing sentences). Just because it is an eBook, doesn't mean it can skip being edited. Overall, with some editing, this could be greatly improved.
In the other books (Love Me Harder) the H was all about the h, but in this one we found out how the brothers have sex with others and how their emotions tie them to their sex partners. To me, it doesn't make sex with their mate any different. I could care less about Lacara!
This book had a good premise, I really tried to keep on reading but I just couldn't get past the writing style. This author needs to find a way to make her narrative a lot more engaging, it's like reading a story written by an eight year old.
I don't even know where to begin...this story was amazing! Jaz and Mick's story was full of so many different emotions and so much excitement it was impossible to put down. The two of them have a lot of self doubt to work through if they want to survive, but will they have the courage and faith to make it? This was my first taste of Serena Simpson's writing, but I guarantee it won't be the last! Great story, very well written, and a definite must read!
I loved the start to the A'rouk brothers. If you haven't read any of the previous books you are definitely missing out. I can't wait to see which brother is next. Than you Ms Simpson for another outstanding book.
