A new, original series from celebrated creator Frank Cho (Totally Awesome Hulk, Savage Wolverine)!
Full of fast-paced action, Skybourne is Indiana Jones meets James Bond with fantasy elements thrown in. Cho describes it as “one of the most cinematic stories I’ve envisioned.”
The legend of King Arthur is alive and well in modern day. Only one man, Skybourne, can stop the evil Merlin from destroying the world.
The second of three children, Frank Cho was born in Seoul, Korea in 1971, but moved to the United States at the age of six and was raised in Beltsville, Maryland.
Cho received no formal training as an artist. He got his start writing and drawing a cartoon strip called University2 for The Diamondback, the student newspaper at the University of Maryland, College Park. After graduation, Cho adapted elements of this work for use in a professionally syndicated strip, Liberty Meadows.
A fun action series. I am sucker for these Immortal type stories (Highlander for example). Pretty graphic violence too. Merlin as a villain? Oh yeah...looks very promising!
I thought this was pretty good. I liked the art a lot, but that's Frank Cho for you. I appreciate the way we're not fed anything by way of narration. There's enough there to pick up context by dialogue, and to rouse interest/hunger in more context.
What turned me off was the over-the-top violence. I can handle violence in comics, but this seemed almost comical/gratuitous (these villains don't even have spines, literally. They are punched clean through where a spine should be and it's just blood blood blood. Beautifully drawn, red blood, but still...) More off-putting than that: the amount of times someone gets called a "man bitch" or "whore".
I'm on board for the rest. This was a very pretty comic to look at. And I'm intrigued enough at the premise to muddle through the dialogue.
Although it doesn't appear to have the most original plot so far, this looks to be a fun, bloody, action-packed romp, with customary great art from Frank Cho.
Fantasy comic Frank Cho's five part mini-series with a modern take on the Arthurian legend. Based on this first issue, Grace has been introduced as competent and very lethal. Because of what used to kill her, we assume it's fatal to her immortality.
Questions remain. Who was her employer? Why did one brother try to kill himself? Why is the face of the second brother hidden? Is he miss ing and presumed dead? Grace worked for some foundation, but apparently her brothers did not. Why and what happened? Why is Merlin evil? Because there five episodes, it's probably a good assumption the bald spellcaster is Merlin himself and he murdered Grace as well as killing or seriously injuring all the Foundation operatives traveling with Grace.
Frank Cho has the skills to portray action and drama. Already planning on purchasing the rest of the series. Interested in what happens next.
A fun tittle that is very modern but reminiscent of classic adventure stories The Skybourne family are immortal and super strong and prone to attracting danger As humanity's defenders
