This book contains five true stories about "sensational robberies and robbers". Some of the crimes were solved, some were not. Some of the loot was recovered, some was not.

The stories ranged from sites across the United States, to Mexico and the United Kingdom and were long enough to cover most of the highlights of each heist, but were not boring or overly detailed.

I liked that the author points out the flaws in some of the plans and provides a glimpse of what other events were going on in the world at the same time as the featured theft. At the end of the book, a glossary and a list of additional resources are included for further study.

Overall, it's a fun, fast read and I really enjoyed reading the stories, even though I was familiar with at least half of them.

This book chronicled five different famous heists. They ranged from art thefts, to train robberies, to hijackings and ransoms. From different periods in history, and all done for different reasons, it was a fascinating look at some very famous, in several cases still unsolved, crimes.

One of my favorites was the tale of Fredericka Mandelbaum, a women who lived in 1800's New York and led a gang of infamous thieves. They had names to rival Mod nicknames and wreaked as much trouble. She was cunning and clever, and very good at what she did.

Each story was unique, and all were fascinating to read. Even if you had heard them before, or knew about the heists, the writing style was very engaging and made the book all the more compelling.

The story of 5 infamous heists from around the world. The planning and execution of each theft is described and if the crime was solved, the reader is given the scoop. Unsolved crimes get speculative guesses. This is engaging readers for young true crime fans and would make a solid hi-lo reader. Recommended for purchase.
