I really liked the "Red Bread" essays where he gave a history of russian food and cuisine, but the rest was some pseudo-intellectual, grabbing at straws annoyance. I especially wanted to vomit when he described American swimming pools as "fetal" in shape and described our private pools as a place for us to be ashamed of our nudity and wash away our sins to become new like a fetus?? Maybe we have them because we're capitalist greedy pigs but come on.
