Well this was lovely. <3 It was a perfect way to end the series with Marti and David. I can’t believe these books are finally over. I absolutely fell in love with this series and I definitely recommend it!

This is a very depressing, accurate picture of motherhood lived with conservative Christian values.
Christy is essentially a single mom raising 2 young kids, including a two-month-old. Her husband Todd works full time and has a lot of hobbies and activities, often getting home at 10pm, because he's a man and gets to do whatever he wants while being applauded for minimal parenting effort. Meanwhile, thanks to conservative gender roles straight out of the '50s, Christy is expected to do most (if not all) of the childcare, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, and laundry--even mentally berating herself when Todd's best shirt isn't clean and ironed. He jets off to Africa for three weeks, and meanwhile Christy and one of her kids get really sick, but she's afraid to tell Todd because it might ruin his trip (!). She has basically no friends (one neighbor friend), no career, no hobbies, and doesn't get to pursue any passions, other than sewing pillows once in a while (also straight outta the '50s). Interestingly, the book addresses this: Christy is like "Why did I even go to college?" Good question, girlfriend. Christy's hospitality and natural gift for being a hostess and making people feel at home is repeatedly mentioned in this series, yet she never gets to pursue it, because Todd comes first. Christy hasn't even had a haircut in years. With Todd essentially out of the picture, Christy's nearby mom picks up the slack--something lots of new moms don't get to benefit from. Once in a while, Todd will do something nice or thoughtful, but he pretty much gets to swoop in sporadically, play with his kids, and then go surfing--yet he's held up as this Godly leader dude. (Unrelated but similarly depressing: bridal showers that incorporate anything sexy are condemned, and "good" Christians never drink. Yikes.)
I really hoped this book would have Christy and Todd reevaluating their roles and coming to a more fair compromise--like that Todd agrees to scale back his after-work activities since he has a newborn, or Todd decides not to abandon his wife with their young kids while he's in Africa, or Todd agrees to work 30 hours a week so Christy can avoid going insane. Nope. Christy is rewarded by Todd merely acknowledging how hard it is for her and sometimes having sex with her. A normal person would resent Todd and insist he quit acting like a carefree college kid, grow up, and equally share the housework and childcare--but then again these aren't normal people; they're bound up like mummies by conservative Christianity. Again, yikes.

Oh what a soothing balm this book was to my soul. A truth filled book about the ups and downs of married life and motherhood. Washing away all insecurities and fears that life throws at you and making you feel renewed, refreshed and ready to take on life. I needed this book in more ways than I can say.
I have been reading the Christy Miller series since I was in high school and to read this final book in her story is both a sweet blessing and a sad ending to an era. Robin Jones Gunn got to my heart with this one, ending the baby years series and what seems to be Christy’s story as a whole.
I seriously loved it and can’t rave about it enough. I feel so refreshed after this novel knowing that what I am doing in life right now is ENOUGH. I do not need to stress. I do not need to worry. I need to just be. I need to take in each moment, count my blessings and be thankful for every day, no matter how mundane. Christy and Todd taught me that through each and every book.
Robin, thank you for writing this wonderful, heart-filling series!

I’m sorry, but I just have to be blunt: this was the most pointless of all Christy books, A Whisper and A Wish included. Nothing happens - at least not to the main characters anyway. That said, I’ve waited for that ending for fourteen years, so... 🤷🏻♀️
It also seems like a fitting way to finish the whole story, as much as I would love to read a Glenbrooke standalone about Tracy and a whole married years series about Katie and Eli. Maybe it really is time to say goodbye to the Forever Friends.

It was bitter-sweet opening up this final entry in Christy Miller's story.
I've been reading this series since I was fourteen, the same age as Christy herself in the first book...so long ago. In a sense, I grew up alongside her, devouring each new book as I was immersed in her world. I loved spending time at Newport Beach with her each summer...
But as I have gotten older, Christy and I have grown distant. These books will always hold a special place on my shelf, but I no longer find myself invested in the shenanigans happening in the Spencer household. Partly this is due to the drama stemming from their young family and I #cantrelate. Never thought I would be saying this, but I miss the high school angst and college antics. This series falls flat for me when it's just Christy worried about not having enough groceries (an actual element of this novel). There doesn't seem to be any huge stakes to the stories being told now.
This particular novel has some significant and lovely moments that I'm very happy have made it into the last book. However, as a whole, it read quite slow and uneventful. I kept waiting for something "big" to happen, something to drive the story forward, but that desire was never satisfied. So it was with a disappointed sigh that I turned the last page. I found it a home alongside the rest of them on my shelf. Though not a great book, it remains a great series.
Oh Christy, you are such drama queen. I'll miss you.

Unfortunately, I found the first half of this book pretty boring. Aside from a couple of significant events, I felt like nothing happened. Even when Todd went on the missions trip, we didn't get to go with him. We stayed at home with Christy and just read about her taking care of Hana and Cole. I appreciate the realness of Christy not being able to pack up with Todd immediately with her two kids and go on a two-week missions trip to Africa, however, I felt like much of that time span in the book was filler and I was bored.
Then, the second half of the book came around, and it improved greatly. Things started to happen and several of the "plot" points got moving and concluded. I greatly enjoyed reading about the wedding that happened, Marti, and Christy getting closer to Jennalyn. So that bumped up the rating from the two stars it would have gotten otherwise.
One more thing, this book was insanely cheesy. The Baby Years aren't as bad as The Married Years as far as cheesiness, but they're really close. It describes the taste of Todd's kisses, has a lot of long paragraphs about how much Christy loves Todd and loves her life (or hates it). Even although sweet and a long time coming, made me cringe a little bit. It took away a little of the realness this book had in the first place. I don't mind a little bit of cheese, and you should expect that from a Christy book, but it was just too much IMO.
Overall, I did enjoy the read. The book gets 3.5 stars out of 5. I look forward to reading the new series RJG is coming out with featuring Jennalyn, Christy, and some other characters she hasn't confirmed yet. :)

Her husband Todd works full time and has a lot of hobbies and activities that he enjoys after work, so he often gets home after dinner and just after the kids have been put to bed, he basically gets to do whatever he wants while doing the minimal in helping take care of the kids. Meanwhile, Christy makes herself think she is expected to do most (if not all) of the childcare, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, and laundry, she even mentally berates herself when Todd's best shirt isn't clean and ironed. He jets off to Africa for three weeks on a mission trip, and Christy and one of the kids get sick, but she's afraid to tell Todd because she doesn't want to ruin his trip. She has basically has one friend nearby, no career, no hobbies, and doesn't get to pursue any passions, other than sewing pillows once in a while. Once in a while, Todd will do something nice or thoughtful, but he pretty much just pops in to play with his kids, and then go surfing, or off to one of his other activities. I would have like to see Christy catch up with some of the other many characters beside just her family members, instead of having the same plot line repeated for almost the whole series. Christy feels overwhelmed, Christy and Todd are busy, they live in a beach house that belongs to her aunt and uncle. This series didn't seem to really end because it seemed stuck from book one the only thing that seemed to change was the number of kids they have and Christy's brother getting married.

The Negative first: The plot was not really packed and there were some typos and incorrect moments. (What I mean by that is that Christy had gotten rid of an item in another book, but it appeared somehow in this one.)
I give this book 4 stars because it is a Christy Miller book, and that character is really dear to me. It's always fun to catch up with her and her friends. This story was well-written and encouraging to my spirit. I currently am at a point in my life where I miss the past and feel constrained where I am. However, reading this book has helped me realize that I must be grateful for where I am.
I hope Robin keeps writing about these characters, although I hope she adds a little more plot to her stories.

It saddens me to have to give this book a three star rating.
I grew up with my home girl Christy. I love her embarrassing moments, her meltdowns, her thought process, I really connected with her because she felt very much like me! These baby year books have fallen away from the rest of the series. This book especially falls flat, I kept waiting for something big to happen, but nothing happened. I missed Christy's "Christyness" Christy is not the same without Katie. The book picked up interest for me only when Katie came on scene, which was not very often. I wanted to love this last book in the series but I couldn't. 😭 Props to Robin though, it was a well written book, and I'm so glad about the thing that happened to Aunt Marti happened! (trying not to give spoilers lol) I'm still a huge fan of Robin, and I think I shall revisit the first Christy book ❤️

This was so awesome on so many levels. I've always loved returning to Christy's world. Seeing her struggle as a young mom just brings her even more to life than she was already. The ending was perfect. I cried happy tears when finishing it.

Great!!! (Like always ;) I wish it was longer and the ending continued I feel like it just cut off. Also, I don't like saying this but, I feel like Robin is tired of writing this series.
:( There were many mistypes/inconsistencies and it wasn't as powerful as it used to be. Not as many God and Bible references Oh well. First Christy Miller book that I had to not give five stars :( There wasn't really much of a plot (it was pretty uneventful) and it was a little boring *insert crying* Maybe some things it was just boring to me since I can't really relate but still I don't think many people will find worrying about little things interesting. I pray that there will be more!! Please! Another pretty quick read and unable to put down :D Dissappointed, I'm sorry to say. I do recommend reading if you've read the whole series up to now. This review is a mess so I'll stop here. (btw random fact, As You Wish is my favorite Christy Miller/Christy and Todd book! And The college years overall were probably my favorite of the series :)

What I loved more than anything else was the message to Mother’s in this book. Such sweet words of encouragement for moms at any stage...! I love when a fiction book acts as a vehicle of a message from the Lord about our worth and purpose as people. I don’t think the story is particularly fancy or deep but the message is clear and beautiful. I was in tears reading it. I could relate to Christy in a way I never was able to before. I’ve read every Christy book and this one just struck a different wonderful chord. So good. I can’t put these books down. I’ve loved following Christy from awkward teenager to married mother of 2 woman of the Lord. I hope there are more stories. There were a little bit of loose ends and I hope that means there will be more to come!

Wow! What an incredible book! This was such a good ending to an incredible series! I am so sad that it is over. I have grown to love Todd, Christy, and all the other characters. I really appreciated all of the Biblical truths in this series. This has been one of my all-time favorite series. It is so hard to say goodbye.

Like another reviewer mentioned, ridiculous complementary gender roles in play. Nothing really happens. Disappointing end to this series. Todd remains a non-communicative jerk.

ABSOLUTELY 5 STARS.
First off, the baby years was definitely my top favorite follow up trilogies. I loved each and every book so much.
Anyways, this was the perfect ending to the series. I will miss these characters and this world so much.
Christy turns 30 in this book and so much has happened.
Christy deals with the insecurities any mother does while also feeling like her life is very limited at the moment by being a mother to her young kids. At the same time, she finds that this season is a blessing and that God doesn’t need her to be worrying about doing more or being more—that she’s more than enough as is. On the journey of this book, she realizes how to be still and enjoy the present and this moment in time.
She also finds a new friend!
I loved her new friendship with Jennalyn—a new Forever Friend right in her neighborhood that’s also a mommy. It was great to see that friendship blossoming. In addition to her new, close to home friend, Christy still has her continuation of long, life lasting friendships of Katie in Africa—which Katie and Eli having a baby too is so heartwarming—, Sierra and Tracy in Glennbrooke, Oregon. The addition of Tracy sending Christy an early birthday gift at just the time Christy needed it, just like she did so many years ago when Christy was 15 was such a full circle moment. Both were incredible and definitely God Things as Katie would call it!
The progression and growing of other characters in Christy’s family like David—who was only 8 or 9 when her series first started!—getting married. I loved the growing, more adult relationship Christy has with David and the relationship she’s formed with Fina. Also, Marti finally becoming saved, something that was a topic of prayer and discussion many times throughout the series. It was such a joy to end the series on such a high note for her and the entire family.
It’s been a ride with this whole series and seeing how God works in his mysterious ways and all the ways He provided and worked things out for Christy, Todd and all their friends and family.
The ending of this book was so amazing and truly didn’t feel like an ending but a new beginning for this cast of characters, even if there are no more books in the series.
All these God lovers mean so much to me and I loved getting to read so much about all of them. It was so nice to read different Bible verses or little things that resonated so much with me as I read these books, even if I wasn’t in the same situations as the characters. It just goes to show that these books truly are for anyone and everyone. This is definitely a series I know I will revisit time and time again. They’re all worth the read and the rereads.

It just goes to show that these books truly are for anyone and everyone. This is definitely a series I know I will revisit time and time again. They’re all worth the read and the rereads.

Christy and Todd are navigating a whole new season of their lives when their son Cole arrives. With a jealous 18 month old they definitely don't have very much quiet time, which is mainly falling on Christy's shoulders since Todd is busy getting the school trip ready to go to Kenya to dig a well for clean water. She would love to ask him to postpone the trip so he can't be more in the moment with her, and help her through this difficult transition, but she also knows how important this trip will be. On top of all that her little brother David is considering a major life change, and Christy is looking for a mom friend she can connect with like Tracy has in Glenbrooke. With everything going on she wants to be there for everyone, but will she forget to put her needs first?
This is the final book in the baby year's series, and I'm not sure what I think of it as an ending. They have the Being Known series out now, which I believe touches on Christy's story so it's not like the end for her, but it does feel like it was almost unfinished. It's not like the ending was a cliffhanger, but it just felt like she was leaving it open to write more in. I really hope that's the case!

I was ecstatic to delve into another novel by Robin Jones Gunn and visit with my favorite fiction friends, Christy and Todd. Sunset Lullaby did not disappoint. I have been visiting Christy Miller's world since I was 15 and I have journeyed through life at the same time she has and enjoyed the same seasons. Robin Jones Gunn does an amazing job pulling the reader in, finding the deepest parts of them, and filling their soul with the love of Jesus. Christy Miller and her adventures are my soul food.
Sunset Lullaby was very well written and pulled me in. I finished it in just over 24 hours and I was equally elated by the ending and saddened that the journey is complete.
The characters are so well developed it's like they're in the room with you and you are a part of the story.
I can only hope that we will see Christy and Todd again in future novels. I highly recommend this novel as well as the many others Robin Jones Gunn has written.

Perfect set up for a spin-off series while tying the rest of the characters and storylines up like a cute little package. I have loved growing up with Todd & Christy and their forever friends. I feel like I know them as real people and paralled them through high school, college, marriage, parenthood and turning 30. I know this series is one that I will share with my own daughter when she's a bit older and I pray it impacts her and her relationships for the rest of her life like it has mine.

Christy and Todd have two children under the age of three, and it’s exhausting. As Todd prepares to lead a short-term mission trip to Kenya, Christy contemplates the limitations, as well as the blessings, of motherhood. When her brother David asks for relationship advice, Christy is pleased to feel needed and included in the life of the family at large — even if that involves the prospect of more drama from Aunt Marti.
This book has the same weaknesses as the previous five books, mostly stemming from lack of editorial direction. However, long-time fans of the series won’t mind much, especially since this book wraps up one long-dangling plot thread. This is a quick and pleasant read for fans of the series — obviously, if you haven’t read anything about Christy and Todd before, don’t start here.

I was not very optimistic when I started this book. I will admit to reading some of the chapters at the end, and I felt that Christy's life seemed to be falling apart. Nonetheless, I have read all of the other books about Christy and her Godlovers, so I was going to read this one.
It is a nice conclusion and the last chapter is a pretty good farewell, wrapping up an entire series concern. The book mainly focuses on Christy 's ability to mother to small children with help from family, friends, and God's Grace. RJG does not sugarcoat it pretty up the realities of family life, but she does gently encourage patience and extending grace to yourself. If you are a fan, then I would encourage you to finish the series.

A great conclusion to a amazing trilogy! Christy and Todd now have 2 children of their own, and Christy's brother, David, is wanting to propose to his girlfriend.
Aunt Marti is still be her dictator self, and wants to control everything. Christy has tried for so many years to get her aunt to turn her life over to the Lord, and it's a challenge.
Another challenge for Christy is being in charge of 2 young children while Todd goes off on a huge adventure. I can only imagine how hard it must be.
David and Fina's wedding was so beautiful. I also loved Christy's new friend, Jennalyn. She seemed really swwet and kind.
I will miss this series!

The best book yet in the story of Christy Miller and Todd Spencer. I love all the Christy Miller books, Sierra Jensen books, Christy and Todd The College Years, Katie Weldon series, Christy and Todd The Married Years, and Christy and Todd The Baby Years. I could read these books over and over again and learn something new every time. In this book, you really see Christy become an adult and learn to take life as it comes. I would love to see more adventures with Christy and Todd and their children as well as Sierra and Jordan and Katie and Eli and their son. Definitely a must-read for any Christy and Todd fans!

In Sunset Lullaby, Robin Jones Gunn continues to tell the story of her beloved characters, Christy and Todd. Now parents of two very small children, balancing parenting, marriage, work, ministry, and friendships has become so complicated and taxing. But Christy and Todd step up to the challenges in ways so fitting with their characters. I love how Robin wrote this book so accurately conveying the struggles in these baby years and how she infuses the story with hope and purpose. This is not a book to miss! I am a longtime fan of Robin Jones Gunn and have been reading her books for over two decades. I hope this is not the last we hear from these wonderful characters.

BEAUTIFUL BOOK!!!!!!! Shows the struggles of young motherhood(parenthood actually), and the continual growth in Christ's love... I'm not yet a mother, but Robin has written all three of the Baby Years books in a way that is not sugarcoated, has educated me to the struggles, ups and downs, yet also made me eager for what some consider the happiest times of life.... But specific to this book, it is full of ups and downs... I won't give away too much but the end about made me bawl... Tissues might be a good idea for those who are criers like me :D All I can say is it is truly a beautiful story :)
