Mystic Storm (Sector Two)

He was supposed to sleep with the Chosen, not fall for her.
Kiera the Chosen: Virgin Witch. Daydreamer. Unknowingly Destined for Death.

Nine winters ago, a fierce winter storm weakened the walls of Sector two, allowing demon-like creatures called ravagers to re-enter the city. Unimaginable death and devastation followed. Regent Minassus, the sector's leader and most powerful witch at the time, took the only measure he believed would save the citizens. He built a new army. Casting a spell so strong it almost killed him, he transformed all adults males with the 236-k gene into polar bear shifters. In their animal forms, they were the only creatures able to beat back the unwelcome invaders and protect the Sector.

Every year before the first winter storm, the Regent selected one virgin witch, called the Chosen, to perform the transformation spell.

To Kiera the Chosen, it was an honor to serve.

Until she met Xander Oslo, the one person willing to do anything to stop the Regent from turning another shifter. With one statement, he showed her that she had been deceived for nine years. Performing the spell nine days from now would come at an unexpected cost.

Her life.

Xander Oslo: Alpha. Protector. Revolutionary.

After the ravagers breached the Sector walls nine winters ago, everything changed. The Regent made it law for these men to serve. He used his personal guards to test every male in the Sector over the age of fifteen. Those with the gene were rounded up and drafted into the Boundary Protection Unit to begin their training. Every year, the ones who reached the age of eighteen were turned in order to bolster the ranks.

There was only one reward for possessing the 236-k gene in a society where witches were revered.

Oppression.

With no end in sight, Xander Oslo, Commander of Sector Two's Boundary Protection Unit, is ready for change at any cost. The one key to freedom for his men? Convince the Chosen to stand with him against the Regent. Except he did not expect to fall for her. Can he pull off the ultimate betrayal?

Mystic Storm is a full-length, steamy, standalone, paranormal witch-meets-shifter romance, with no cliffhanger and a happy ever after ending.

This is much better written than the first book in the series. Thank God. We actually have some characters with some depth to them. The sexy times were actually hot. The time line was a little rapid but somewhat understandable. I keep imagining the ravagers to be walrus-like creatures with more teeth. My only complaint is that like the first book in the series, this one also had a cardboard cut-out villain. Minassus had no explained reason for his actions and it was comically easy to dispose him.

I was given this ARC book from the Author in exchange for my honest review.

What do you get when you cross an innocent Chosen Witch and a Commander shifter polar bear???? HOTNESS in a book!

Kiera is a Chosen, the 9th witch that will be casting the spell for new polar bear shifters, the spell to protect her home (Sector 2) against the Ravagers. She knows what these beasts are capable of doing, they killed her mom and took everything from her one winter. So she is more than ready to be the witch that casts the spell on the new recruits. She has Coco, her trusted familiar (form of a large bird) with her and her good friend Reena (a botonist/scientist) in her life, and they are family. Just as the Regent is like a father to her. So when she learns she is to meet with the Commander of the new recruits she is nervous (by his reputation) but yet ready none the less.

Xander is a brooding, brutish, angry all the time (or at least acts and looks like it,) very handsome, very large (...did I mention handsome????) Commander of the new recruits. He himself is a polar bear shifter. He is going to take over this meeting with the little witch that is scheduled to cast the spell on the new recruits, which in turn makes them polar bear shifters. He is going to make sure it doesn't happen, NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES. So when this little witch walks in the room, he wasn't expecting a beautiful, innocent, precious woman. But no, he is a brutish warrior commander.....already he is under her spell, just not the one she will be casting.

The meeting takes place, Kiera is not really enjoying that Xander is a brooding arrogant jerk, he is close minded and that upsets her. But her kindness breaks through his tough shell, but not before he plants a seed of doubt in her mind and heart. What is about to happen comes from him, and she passes it off thinking he is upset about the spell she is to cast, not that he could be telling the truth. Now, is he telling the truth? Once that seed is planted she starts asking questions, dangerous questions....she enlists answers from her familiar Coco, and her friend Reena. She also starts hanging around Xander to get the answers she is now asking. What she wasn't asking for is something she finds as well. Xander has a heart, and she belongs in it.

Xander didn't want to hurt this girl, he actually likes her. She didn't go all pouty, temper tantrum throwing on him when he snapped at her throughout the meeting, instead she remained calm and caring and that spoke volumes to him. Maybe if she is like this with him one on one, if she came to the site of the new recruits and sees with her own eyes what is happening he could convince her that this is wrong to do. He also must prove to her that the ravagers are not the only evil force to be fought, but that the Regent is too. This will not be an easy sell that is for sure, but he believes that Kiera is the one. She is powerful and will be stronger than the evil forces planned.

There is awesome chemistry between Xander and Kiera.....awesome chemistry. They both have their stubborn sides, but using them together they are a force to be reckoned with. Now add to that force the mixture of her innocence lost, and feelings of the heart. Now we are talking....and it is hot. There are some twists, aka setbacks, and this is no small setback. However, there is also a little twist that Reena holds in store for her friend to learn about and that twist involves the cause they are hoping to win. Can Kiera and Xander fight against all the evil forces? Can they win? Do their friends help? Are they found out? What secrets does Kiera and Coco and Reena hold? Can they help Xander and his men or harm them? Is there a HEA for these two?

READ......THIS.......BOOK!!!!! I promise you will find these answers and a whole lot of good stuff for the eyes and imagination as well. This was a hard book to put down once I started reading it. Easy to follow and that is with adding multiple characters (aside from the two main characters) and very very awesome and enjoyable.....I promise!!!!

Mystic Storm: An Adult Paranormal Witch Romance Sector Two The Othala Witch Collection Book 2
by Bella Love-Wins, Othala, & 1 more
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This storyline has lots of imagination, action and fantastic. I had read a few storylines of Bella Love-Wins but they all seem to be Box sets with other authors. I enjoyed reading her stories and as I have become a Fan for Life. OH MY GOODNESS! Excitement is just one word I felt when it came to reading this book, I was so eager to read it just by the cover and excerpt. I enjoyed the characters in this book even the secondary characters. Bella Love-Wins writing is the kind that I enjoy reading. The storyline is strong, engaging and Fantastic. Her characters are amazing, thoughtful, powerful, exhilarating and lovable. The dialogue is fascinating, has some humor and feels realistic. Mystic Storm is the story of a rebellion. I am amazed and fascinated by the idea that a Regent, be he the leader or powerful witch could or would force a conscription of boys with a specific 236-k gene to do something that would mean their involuntary conversion to polar bear shifters for protection of the Sector 2 borders without anyone volunteering. Of course there would be a hero and leader such as Alpha Commander Xander Oslo. He decided a course of action and followed through , including manipulating the Chosen witch who will convert the next batch of draftees.

It's a fascinating to read a story about the conversion to polar bear shifters for protection of the Sector 2 borders, a group not often written about, and the idea of the possibility of civilization being driven backward to the point that society is again in the Dark Ages. Cities and countries are unrecognizable. Life is primitive and history is lost and is especially intriguing. Because the Beastly Ravagers threaten continuously, and fighting them. I cannot say enough good things about this book and feel it will almost certainly be one of the great read. I hope everyone else loves it as much as I did. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could!

If you believe in the world of paranormal romance, the possibilities are endless and fascinating!

The Othala Witch Collection is a series of books folded around a central premise that more than 200 years in the future, isolated pockets of the world will be protected by powerful sorcerers whose heirs have responsibility to oversee these sectors of blended human and witch civilization. Beastly Ravagers threaten continuously, and fighting them has driven technology backward to the point that society is again in the Dark Ages. Cities and countries are unrecognizable. Life is primitive and history is lost.

This book was imaginative and filled with action. At its heart, Mystic Storm is the story of a rebellion. I was intrigued early on with the idea that forced conscription of boys with the 236-k gene would mean their involuntary conversion to polar bear shifters for protection of the Sector 2 borders. Alpha Commander Xander Oslo is set up to be the hero, and he will do anything, including manipulating the Chosen witch who will convert the next batch of draftees.

It was a good start; unfortunately, the book gets mired down in magic razzle dazzle. By the end, I was rushing through the addition of one more twist and one more magical concoction and one more unknown magical talent just to get to the end. And then the book went from three starts to 2.5 when the big showdown with the main protagonist is detoured in favor of magically battling the Ravagers. What a letdown.

Here were a few other random observations:
* It would have been really neat to see pre-Industrial life inhabit the vestiges of Chicago skyscrapers and other landmarks; instead it feels like a medieval village. Such a missed opportunity.
* Ouch on the numerous grammatical errors / typos.
* The numerous "dears" and "darlings" in the dialogue made me cringe.
* High points for having Xander lay out the situation for the sheltered Kiera. "You should knw that I am taking a big risk, but if you want the truth, you will get my honest answers to any question you ask." This was exactly what Kiera needed to hear at just the right moment.
* The light tone didn't seem to match the deadly consequences.

Mystic Storm: An Adult Paranormal Witch Romance: Othal a Witch Collection by Bella Love-Wins
4.5 Stars

This is a really, really good read. It's different, it's thrilling, it's suspenseful and just plain hot and sexy.
You'll meet Xander Oslo, Alpha of the Boundary Protection Unit, the highly trained soldiers who keep Sector 2 safe. He's one hot Polar Bear. And he isn't going to make any more men with the 236-k gene have to face the transformation that has been forced on them.

Kiera, The Chosen witch to perform the transformation ceremony, has been raised by Regent Minassus, ruler of Sector 2 after her parents died. She is in for one heck of a surprize, one no tells her that by performing it, she and her familiar (Coco the Osprey) will die, just like the last 8 witches. What?!! Second is she gets all tingly when she meets Commander Oslo and Bam, lol. And his thoughts and words prove to her that everything she has been brought up to believe is FALSE.

Great PNR Read. Recommend 18+ readers.

I was gifted and Advanced Reader Copy of this book by the author for my honest review.

Must read

Another good story. How it evolves from her being naive and trusting to her being strong willed and determined. All because of the lucky polar bear who just happened to be the most stubborn also.

Bella Love-Wins has taken the usual boy meets girl, falls in love with girl and lives happily ever after and turned it into one rocking, fast paced adventure of Polar Bear Shifter Xander, and Witch Chosen Kiera who must band together to defeat not only the Ravagers but also their Regent who has let power go to his head. Hundreds of years past the world as they knew it changed, they adapted. 9 years ago it changed again and the Chosen were born as a way to make more Polar Bear Shifters, but at what cost ? Regent Manassus lied to everyone, kept everyone separated and made his plans to continue his wicked ways, while sending good Witches to their deaths, even with proof that there were better ways to defeat the Ravagers, he chose to dominate all. Will Zander and Kiera be able to stop him with the help of a witch botanist and a Osprey familiar ? Will Kiera grow strong enough, in time to defeat them, without sacrificing a new batch of possible Polar Bear recruits ? This was a non-stop , edge of your seat thrill ride with a healthy dose of sexy heat thrown in for good measure !! 5☆'s for a well written book, with the ability to be a world building series !! I recieved a gifted copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Honestly reading anything that has anything to do with shifters but honestly I love reading it when Bella Love-Wins writes it and that’s because she has such a unique way to draw your attention into the story. Honestly this book is a must read, I was hooked from the beginning. I loved the whole plot of this book and seriously thought it worked well, in fact I think this is my new favourite out of Bella’s paranormal romances. If you’re unsure if you’ll like any of Bella’s shifter books, don’t think about it just try this one as honestly you should never judge a book by its. In fact I’m honoured to have been able to have read this book as it tells the story of paranormal in a completely different way to what you’d normally expect.

First, when I read the summary for this book, I was not sure I wanted to read it. Generally, I do not usually like books set in the future., but I had received it from the author in return for an honest review, and I have never read one of Bella Love-Wins' books that I did not like, so I began reading it. As I started to read it, I found myself not only enjoying it, but not wanting to put it down. It is a great story, and also is sizzling hot. I loved the the main characters. They are really strong and assertive, which I like. By the time I was finished, I was hoping for a possible second book in this series. I really enjoyed reading this book, so I do recommend it.

This story is suspenseful, hot and steamy. Keira is the Chosen One that will convert the new recruits to polar bears to protect Sector 2. Xander is the commander of the polar bear shifters and wants to stop more men from being transformed. Xander is out to convince Keira the transformation is not all that it seams. Keira and Xander are strongly attracted to each other and sparks fly but it's against the rules. Can Xander get Keira on his side before it's too late? This is a great read and will have you hooked. Received copy for honest review.

I loved it stand-alone read, you will not want to put down. What do you get when there is a virgin Chosen that really does not understand what the Regent is doing and one Alpha who will do anything to keep others safe. This is Kiera the 9th witch Chosen that will be casting the spell to make new polar bear shifters and Xander Oslo, Commander of Sector Two's Boundary Protection Unit, who knows what its like to become a Bear. Can these two find a way to keep the Revengers out of the city and still keep everyone safe without one of them having to die? I was gifted a copy for an honest review.

Nice addition to the series

I really love the Othala Witch series which is incentive enough for a high rating from me, but truth to tell, I enjoyed this book! As a lover of paranormal romances, I am really easy to please. A good plot, a hot alpha shifter and a feisty heroine witch (ooh, I just love witches!) and I am a happy reader!
