Imagine if sunlight burned you alive. In the near future, a mysterious solar event has transformed the sun's light into deadly immolating rays. The world's few survivors now live in nocturnal cities. But a killer emerges who uses sunlight to burn his victims, and when he targets the daughter of a solar power mogul, it falls to a disillusioned solar engineer to protect her.
This is a really cool premise of people living underground, and not able to go outside during the day because of the extreme temperatures outside, where if you get stuck outside without a special suit you would burn up. I'm not so sure if the science of this whole thing would actually work or not but whatever. What I find interesting is the murder mystery aspect where people are taking individuals outside against their will. I'm digging the art style because it has this sandy look to it. Looking forward to seeing where this one goes.
This review is about the complete series (4 arcs/books). The backstory is apparently simple but Zack Kaplan really gives the reader a good and enjoyable ride, full of fulfilling flashbacks and plot twists to keep one satisfied.
Fair warning: the art may be a bit gory for the casual reader (lots of burning bodies...) but the rest of us will get used to it. As far as the story goes, yes, it's rather full of twists, social and personal dilemmas, a lot of violence, political intrigue and games of power and, yes, a bit of love/romance thrown in the mix too. "Eclipse" has it all.
All in all, I really enjoyed the story, although the art style is a bit confusing at times (characters faces) but nothing to really push you away from the plot.
Zack Kaplan and Giovanni Timpano have built and amazing work.
The idea of the solar system cause this problem where humans can't survive the daylight but only by wearing suits it's the perfect story to introduce a world where there's leadership to make rules from those who have money to afford the gear and such.
So far the first volume showed us how things work and introduced us to some characters and ( probably ) a mysterious man that might be the villain. Can't wait to read the rest !
Interesting concept, and I'm enjoying the mystery side of it. This is one that I'm intrigued where it's going, the concept of a sun apocalypse isn't something I've seen done often, so it's got me.
