The more I read Patch books, the more I fall in love. She has an effortless way with dialogue, knows how to write romance, and sprinkles in light moments around the suspense. This book only shows her continued growth as a writer. Loved it!
Jessica Patch knows how to do suspense and do it well. She also knows how to share the love of Christ. I discovered her as an author last year, so I had the pleasure of reading lots of her work one right after the other. She knows her stuff, folks.
Aurora is the defense attorney in a small town in the south where Beckett Marsh is the sheriff. He doesn't have a lot of use for her, considering her job, but now it seems as if someone has targeted Aurora. Maybe several someones. And it's Beckett's job to keep her safe.
Aurora has a deep burden on her heart, though, and she has never felt worthy in anyone's eyes. Beckett, too, has a burden on his heart. Both need to allow God to do His healing work in their hearts and lives. But, we are sometimes stubborn and try to do things on our own. As they work through trying to figure out who in the world is out to get Aurora, including murdering someone close to her, they begin to have feelings for each other. Neither one will admit to those feelings, though, due in part to their individual fears.
First of all, Patch hits the ground running with this book and continuously ratchets up the action. I gasped in more than one place. Then, she shares God's redemption work and blows the reader's mind. Personally, the section I was reading one morning just ministered to me as tears streamed down my face. That was my devotion for the day. Awesome imagery Jessica Patch created here and one I will always remember. She has the ability to flesh out her characters till they seem real, too. I think Beckett Marsh may be my most favorite hero of all her books.
I highly recommend this book, both for it's well written and tight suspense and for the wonderful spiritual message it contains.
*I was given a preview copy of this book . All opinions expressed here are my own.
Wow!! What a wonderful romantic suspense, but it's also so much more that that. I was immediately pulled into the story and kept turning the pages until the end. So for me this was a one setting book that I finished late at night, but it was so worth it. The engaging characters immediately wove their way into my heart. Aurora is a feisty, young attorney that has one goal and that's to help others. She wants to advocate for second chances for those deserving. Beckett Marsh, the town sheriff, is a former Navy SEAL who known to be meticulous at his job and takes his oath of protecting people seriously. When Aurora takes own a case that makes her a target Beckett's skills are tested. This is a fast paced story that has elements of suspense, mystery, romance and lots of faith. This is the first book I've read by this author, but it won't be the last. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good suspense. *I received this book from the author, but was not required to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Beckett you beautiful man, Jessica Patch saved the best for last. The moment this story started I was falling fast for this hero. He was strong, smart and tenacious. Oh he was just yummy. Aurora you lucky fictional girl you, to play partner in this high suspense filled book.
Okay, I'm done drooling out loud. This book has all the elements a Love Inspired Suspense fan looks for. The pace- fast, action filled, flying pages. The characters- Beckett and Aurora are a great team. The setting- quaint small town full of charm. The plot- oh my does Aurora stand for herself and for the rights of those wrongly convicted. She certainly is put through the tests of faith in this book. The end- Well its magical and just perfect.
Faithfully driven these two will find out who is the real judge and maker. I just adored this book. Now quick go read it!
I was so lucky to read an ARC of this book and was beyond happy to share my opinions.
Defense Attorney Aurora Daniels becomes the target of someone seeking revenge. She teams up with the local Sheriff Beckett Marsh in an attempt to find out who is responsible for trying to kill her. There are several possible suspects, but who is behind all of the attacks? It was fun to see Aurora and Beckett working together to find a common ground, both being very strong willed characters. This suspenseful romance will keep you guessing until the end. I enjoyed reading this book and loved the inspirational messages throughout.
I received this book for free through the Goodreads Firstreads program in exchange for my honest review and this is my honest review of Final verdict.
Jessica never disappoints! Not even with her character names. They are unfailingly unique and strong without being distracting. I mean, who wouldn't love a hero named Beckett? And what hero wouldn't love a beauty named Aurora? Somehow, after years of watching lawyer and cop shows, I never realized that a law enforcement officer and a public defender would make an awkward match with some lovely conflict to overcome. Of course, they do in a whirlwind romance that keeps you turning pages. Good job, Ms. Patch!
Final Verdict ( Love Inspired Suspense ) By: Jessica R. Patch Wow, Jessica Patch has did it again, she has herself a winner. I absolutely loved it. The story and the characters , both were easy to read and well developed. I was hooked right from the start and not let go till the end. She weaves a story filled with lots of action, suspense, love , and faith. The author did not disappoint me. I could not read fast enough, turn the pages fast enough, to see what was going to happen next..There was times when I had tears in my eyes and holding my breath . Aurora is a defense attorney . Sheriff Breckett is a former Navy SEAL . Aurora is a target , someonee is after her and Breckett makes it his business to and keep her safe. Can he keep her and himself safe? Who is after her and why? I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Intense suspense meets with wicked-sharp wit and humor in this one! Defense attorney Aurora Daniels is one tough skinned lady used to holding her own. Sheriff Beckett Marsh seems to like to goad her on. Two tough skulled people on opposing thought trains come together when the stakes run high and someone's out to kill Aurora! Can they solve the mystery before time runs out?
This author knows how to take you for the ride of your life! And even in the midst of heart-stopping action, she'll make you laugh with the quick-witted banter between these two. It doesn't get any better than this. With my adrenaline running on high, I inhaled every page to find out what happened next. I had no idea who the killer was and trying to put the clues together was like trying to nail jello to the wall! Twists and turns galore! She also laces faith throughout and how each character struggles with their own and with the past guilt that shouldn't be on their shoulders. Of course, since this is a romance, they do fall in love eventually....each one fighting it until the bitter end. A thrill ride from page one!
Grace-filled faith elements, high intense scenes, action-packed, and sweet romance all rolled into one highly recommended read!
*I received a complimentary digital copy of the book from the author. I was under no obligation to leave a favorable review and all opinions expressed her are strictly my own. *
I laughed, I cried, I jumped and I yelled...I have had the privilege of reading every one of Jessica's full length novels but this one...this one was immediately bumped up to my favorite book upon finishing. I have been trying for several days to write this review but I have had trouble finding the words and placing my finger on what exactly made me fall head over heels in love with this book...
Could it be the clash between the lead characters Beckett the Sheriff and Aurora the public defender (also known as "counselor")?
The intellectual intrigue of a mystery that has all kinds of twists and turns with surprises you will never see coming?
The INTENSE suspense and nail biting action?
Or could it be watching two people who are never going to work out, seeing justice from opposite ends of the legal spectrum learn and grow from past tragedies that both have suffered? I believe it is all of these elements woven together with masterful storytelling that left me longing for more. I don't want to give any spoilers but this is one book you do NOT want to miss out on reading!
Final Verdict by Jessica R. Patch will have the reader experiencing all the feels. I smiled and giggled at the quick-wittedness of Aurora and playfulness of Beckett. I stopped breathing multiple times as the suspense grew. I teared up with the trials of the past and of it affected each person’s future.
Beckett is the Sheriff. Aurora the Defense Attorney. Complete opposites. Yet, each of their profession draws them together unexpectedly.
Aurora is one tough woman. The past dictated she form tough skin early. Beckett can match her stubbornness any day of the week. He is a protector by profession and by character. And, when someone is suddenly out to hurt Aurora, Beckett will do anything to keep her safe.
Author Jessica R. Patch did a fabulous job of keeping the reader guessing “who done it”. I honestly thought everyone was a suspect at one point! Surprising suspect to say the least.
Final Verdict is heart-warming, suspenseful and a lesson on forgiveness when life gives you lemons. The author does an amazing job of weaving the story to keep readers from putting the book down.
I highly recommend Final Verdict!
I was given an advance copy by the publisher and author for an honest review/opinion.
Ugh!!!! I can't even accurately describe how much I liked this book! I will admit, when Jessica first brought Beckett in, I was very skeptical of him. Wasn't sure I'd like him. But if I've learned anything reading these books, it's that sometimes the coldest characters you meet have the warmest hearts. And Beckett is no exception. He is a man who's loved and lost and is scared to love again. He sees everyone as black and white. Whereas Aurora believes everyone should be given a second chance. The two clash on a number of subjects, but when it comes to keeping her safe, Beckett won't back down. Despite their differences, he promises that he will not leave her side. As Beckett said, "they're magnets". Against all odds, Beckett decides Aurora is worth loving. I just loved Beckett so much. I could write so much more, but then I'd be spoiling things. All I'm going to say is, Beckett is a strong, amazing man. I have to say I'm kind of jealous that he's not real. Haha! I don't know how it took Aurora so long to fall for him. I would have fallen hard and fast. (He's way older than me though haha)
All Public defender Aurora Daniels wanted was some stability in her life and to prove her brother’s innocence. Instead, she finds herself the target of someone seeking their own form of justice. It appears that, despite their differences, Sheriff Beckett Marsh is the only one who can help her. He is looking to prove something to himself, as he was unable to save his fiancée in the past. It appears that the threats could be linked to her investigations regarding her brother’s case. Who wants to keep the details buried, at any cost?
This is an action-filled suspense with characters who are equally stubborn and determined. Lots of suspects leave the reader guessing who’s behind the cat-and-mouse game. The imagery adds to the enjoyment, and the secondary characters are well utilized. The characters’ faith struggles are realistic.
Disclosure: I won a copy of this book, but I wasn’t required to leave a review.
Final Verdict is another winner by Jessica Patch! I have loved every book she has written, but this is definitely one of my favorites. First, she writes such realistic characters who have real life struggles with their faith, their pasts, their families, etc. The she manages to develop a relationship between some of the most unlikely people (a defense attorney and a sheriff) and have the readers rooting for them.
What I probably love the most about a Jessica Patch novel is the suspense she creates that has the reader hooked from page one! When it becomes very obvious that someone is after Aurora (the attorney), Beckett (the sheriff) makes it his mission to keep her safe. The list of possible suspects after her gets longer and longer as the book becomes more action-packed and edge-of-your-seat suspenseful. Just when I thought I had it figured out who was behind all of the events happening, another twist was thrown in. It definitely kept me guessing until the very end.
An added bonus is readers get to meet a few characters from her new Security Specialists series which will be out this summer. Can't wait!
Just make sure when you start reading Final Verdict, you have some spare time because you are not going to want to put it down!!
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I was on the edge of my seat from the first line in this book to the last. Jessica Patch truly had a way of writing that will keep you reading until you finish the book in one day. It packed full of suspense, action, drama and a bit of romance. I also loved how the author wove throughout this story the message of God's love and support. There's a part what the author's words are so good I can't help but post them..... “Jesus stood as an advocate for you. While the mud was slung and you were accused before the judge of all your sins, guess what? Jesus stood right there and defended you. Knowing you were guilty, but dying so you could have a clean slate." These words are so true. Thank you Jessica Patch for sharing this story with us. Wow, I highly recommend getting this book.
This is the second book that I have read by this author, and it was just as amazing as the first book that I picked up. No sex scenes, totally not needed. Can feel the emotion behind each character, you know they love each other, even if they can't figure it out right away. They come from two different viewpoints of the law, but need to work with each other. I LOVED Beckett's need to protect Aurora, the author does an excellent job of portraying his anger/fear. I couldn't figure out who was after her and never would have guessed who it was. What a great surprise!! The action is ever present, doesn't let up, makes this a quick read, could not (didn't want to either) put this book down. Just writing this review makes me want to read this again. Maybe once I get through the rest of her books!
Jessica R. Patch is a new-to-me author but I can guarantee that I plan to read more of her books. I found her writing to be concise and intelligent with just the right blend of suspense, humor, and romance, with a large dose of faith mixed in. It’s also nice to know that she’s from my corner of the world.
The characters were perfect. I found both Beckett and Aurora to be people I would like to know, flawed but with great integrity. And the plot! Well, it was one that kept me on edge from beginning to end. There were so many twists and turns that I found it difficult to decide just who was at fault. An exciting read until the very end, “Final Verdict” was the kind of book I love when reading suspense. As I said earlier, I will definitely be reading more by this author!
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that was provided by the author. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Man, I love how this author pulls me into a literary chokehold! Suspense, romance and faith threads all seamlessly blend together and drive me into emotional overload. That`s just plain awesomesauce!
And the hero! I got a glimpse of him (and Aurora) in Concealed Identity. and was so hoping they would be featured in the next book because their scenes sizzled. And, woohoo, here they are stirring embers into flames and curling my toes in the process.
Intriguing suspense with enough twists and turns to give a dedicated reader whiplash! Sinister danger, relentless mystery and swoonworthy romance made this a read-in-one-sitting kind of book.
4.5/5 stars I really enjoyed this book. I loved the slow-burn romance and the chemistry between the two main characters. I just wished that the book was longer, and the climax of the book was ... anticlimactic. Like in one hit, with a shovel, and the main antagonist was down. Like really. All 200+ pages of build up and suspense and that’s the pay off? The only other thing that bugged me was all the Christian/Christianity terms and quotes. I not a religious person and to me it felt like the author was beating her religion over my head. But overall, a great read with just a few minor flaws and I would recommend it.
Quiz time!!! :) How many Jessica Patch books does one need to read to be hooked? Answer: one!!! She writes great suspense, wonderful characters and doesn't miss a single little detail of the story. She tries up all the loose ends, big and small. The thing I love about her books is that I always have a hard time figuring out whodunnit. She gives the reader several suspects all with really good motives and evidence. She keeps me guessing to the very end. That doesn't happen very often for me. I can usually guess who the nasty critter is.
The banter and clashes between Aurora and Beckett are so much fun. Jessica is so good at writing those scenes. The secondary characters are written just as well and the main. The story is great.
If you haven't read any of her books, go!! Go now and get them!
This book is beyond a good read. First one by Jessica that I have read. It was an autographed copy from Jessica. I am hooked, good clean love story, full of suspense and wonderful references to God. Jessica knows what she is doing. Keep up the good work and now onto my next book by her.
Once again, I didn't see the end coming.. And as always, I didn't want to stop reading. Jessica has a way of bringing characters together without too much sappiness and always keeps the reader guessing until the end.
This story provides a different twist. The tormentor is a big surprise. It was positive that Aurora and Beckett could work out their jobs and their feelings for each other.
Wow! What a great book! It has tons of action and romance. This story had me hooked, and I did not want to put it down. There are many twists and turns that keep you guessing how everything is going to play out. This is my new favorite from this author! *I was provided a free copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
This book has it all! Beckett and Aurora are two strong-willed people fighting love while trying to figure out who wants Aurora dead, and let me assure you, there are plenty of reasons for someone to want her dead! Both characters faced devastating losses in their pasts, and I loved how they worked through their guilt while learning to trust each other. The spiritual aspect was particularly moving--a beautiful reveal of grace. Excellent book!
Real life issues.. This one had me locked in from the beginning because of the depth it took Jessica to write it. She had to really come to grips with some personal issues as well as issues that others face daily. Aurura had a career that is hard for some people to consider. She had very good reasoning for said career. Beckett was on the opposite side of the fence of this career and had to come to understand why she made the choice of this career before he could come to terms with his feelings for Aurura. Loosing a family member to murder is never easy. Building up all the hatred to hate the person that done the murdering won't help you heal spiritually. God had a plan and we all just have to set back and watch it take it's course. We have free will of course to make it change directions sometimes but he knows where he wants us and if we listen he guides us there.
Final Verdict, written by Jessica R. Patch, is the first book I've read by this author and definitely not the last! Wow, suspense and romance at its best! The realistic characters of public defender Aurora Daniels and former Navy SEAL, sheriff Beckett Marsh make this action packed Christian suspense/romance a nailbiter! She's a small-town public defender with a BIG dose of confidence and a huge load of guilt over a previous case she couldn't defend added to it a loss of life because of it. He's a former Navy SEAL now Sheriff who is always in command, always telling everyone what to do and when to do it and making sure everyone is safe. Yet, he too has a boatload of heartache from a past situation when he couldn't save the one that he so wanted to protect. Lots of Big attitudes, confidence, romance, crime, guilt, faith, love, and yet a need for forgiveness packed in this awesome book! If you can handle all that, then you'll love this read! I was given this book by the author. All thoughts and comments are my own.
The characters in this book are strong and wholesome, but are also able to grow and recognize their need to change. You're given plenty of opportunity to see how Beckett and Aurora appreciate the way the other looks without feeling like the descriptions of their eyes, etc. went overboard. I liked the suspense and the elements that kept me trying to figure out who was behind the different problems plaguing our hero and heroine and the way the author was able to keep the story moving. This is definitely an author I will look forward to reading again.
