About the author

I’ve been a writer for over 15 years now, but it wasn’t planned!

I had a variety of jobs, including secretary, trainee buyer at Harrods, dental nurse, production assistant in a reprographic and printing company and various others.

I began to write after joining a creative writing class. I had no success with article writing, or short stories, or fiction, but the first children’s story I wrote, for a magazine called Twinkle, was accepted for publication. Hooray!!!

Things snowballed and a lot (yes lots and lots) of hard work later I now write full time and have over 50 books published. I still go to the same writing class and we have become a big happy family of writers!

For me, writing is the best job ever. I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. I love to create worlds for young children to enjoy and escape into – whether the stories are educational, bedtime, problem solving or just plain good fun. It’s also very exciting to see the first picture roughs, as my wonderful, talented illustrators bring the text to life.

I live on the Essex coast in a lovely two-bed-roomed flat, which I share with my husband, Michael. At long last I have an office to write in, with room for all my books and bits of scribbled on papers.

The seafront is (still) just around the corner, and I find a bracing walk (it gets freezing when the East wind blows from the North Sea!) or gentle stroll when the weather is warmer, is great for clearing my head and mulling over story ideas.

ABOUT 'MONSTERS LOVE UNDERPANTS': There are prowly monsters howling loudly and drooling monsters from the steamy swamp. There are wild, woolly mountain monsters and spiky, spooky monsters from outer space. And they all have one thing in common - they LOVE underpants!

LUKE AND SANDY'S THOUGHTS: What monsters love even more than looking mean and scary is ..... UNDERPANTS! And they have ever so many pairs of brightly coloured, striped, spotted and patterned underpants. One monster even wears an extra pair on his head!

As well as a fun rhyming story, there are plenty of learning opportunities - counting, colours, and working into the story that even though the monsters are all different, just like people are all different, they all live and play together.

Luke particularly loved the cat being scared by the monsters, and the pirate underpants. He also liked that there are bats and spiders and mice in some of the pictures.

Delightfully silly, bright and cheerful. I have lost count of the number of times we have read Monsters Love UNDERPANTS!

A story that mixes monsters and underwear? What 5 year-old would not love it? Neo laughed out load at the zany pictures and rhymes peppered throughout this story.

This book was great! Wonderful! Bought pre-Christmas for my four-year old grandson, by his mother, he made me read this to him just before the holiday, then again, and again and again...

It's funny and silly. It rhymes! (I swear I know most of it by heart.) But basically it's about a lot of scary/funny/silly monsters and the underpants they wear.

(When I was a kid, we had one kind of underpants: white. Or maybe you could get pink and yellow if you were girl, blue and green for boys. But today my grandsons have them in every color and with every funny cartoon or action character you can imagine.)

Anyhow, we read this again just recently and my grandson was silently mouthing a lot of the words as I read them. We laughed. We read it again. We played silly songs on Alexa and danced around.

Love this book, just LOVE it.

Fun and entertaining book that is sure to engage young children; after all, undies are funny.

I am sure that parents will turn to books like this one (and its companion tales Dinosaurs Love Underpants, Aliens Love Underpants, and Pirates Love Underpants) to help children get excited about the potty training process, but I'm not sure how effective they are.

The illustations are colorful, cartoonish, and very silly and they really add a lot of flair and humor to the rhyming narrative. Overall, it's a fun, fast read.

'Monsters Love Underpants' a book aimed at children in EYFS/KS1. It is a story about monsters who are defined by their own and individual underpants, who love to party and dance in their individual underpants. This book provides different colours which really makes the book engaging and bright, as well as creating a sense of fun and joy from monsters. Children are often scared of monsters, however, this book can lead to their fear and assumption of how monsters are change. The way you can use this book in a classroom is: Get the children to draw their own monster, get them to draw their own underpants using different colours and make a character description. I think personally it was a very engaging story as monsters are usually seen as scary and colours are usually black and grey to signify horror, scare and fear. AA child's opinion of a monster can change from reading this book.

This newest edition to the Underpants books, which include Dinosaurs Love Underpants and Aliens Love Underpants, is fantastic edition. This time writer and illustrator team Freedman and Cort show monsters of all shapes and sizes wearing their beloved underpants, even though the monsters know that, if they're caught, no one will ever find them scary again! Cort's colorful and creative monsters pair well with Freedman's goofy rhyming text.

My daughter and I read this one together recently and this one fell flat for both of us.

The rhyming story was a bit far fetched. For me it felt a bit to "trying to hard" to make it rhyme and I don't find that enjoyable in children's books... I actually prefer pretend words that rhyme than awkward rhyme and words like "tetchy" in a book for young children also didn't work for me.

The pictures and bright and colourful but not enough to engage me or my four year old. A one read book.

This book has lots of humour and rhyme, making it perfect for EYFS and KS1. The context of monsters wearing different types of underpants is hilarious and silly, which makes the book fun and engaging. This may help children who are afraid of monsters at night, good for PSHE. The pictures are bright and eye-catching, and the monsters differ in features and colour, some monsters have 1 eyes others have 3. The setting of the world of space that the aliens inhibit is similarly vibrantly portrayed, for eg, at the bottom of the monster ocean or in a monster disco. This fun visual element of the book keeps children engaged. By the last page, children listening to the story can feel safe, when the two children in the story look for a monster under their bed to find nothing there, and at the side of the page they can see a small funny monster running away with underpants.

I will forever be a Claire Freedman fan. Her underpants books are full of fun rhymes and excellent illustrations. It doesn't matter if it’s dinosaurs, aliens, or even in this case Monsters. Everyone loves Underpants.

Instead of teaching anything useful, this book delves down to the silliest common denominator with drool, slime and clubs with password protected entry. Cute pictures sure, but pointless. I don't see how Scholastic gets away with publishing such tripe.

This is an amazing book about monsters who love underpants as the title says. There are fuzzy monsters, scaly monsters, alien monsters, and sea monsters. They have many different kinds of underwear including striped, polka dotted, jeweled, and even armored ones. They have a party in their underpants to show them off and have to run back home before anyone sees them in there and that makes them not scared of them anymore.

I love this book it is hilarious and keeps you giggling all the way through. The art in this book is amazing and I am not sure how they came up with so many different monsters and underpants, but it is fantastic.

I think this book would be amazing in a preschool classroom when talking about personal hygiene and dressing ourselves independently.

This book is about how monster have something to make them seem unscary. In the book it goes through different monsters and how they each have their own underpants. Their underpants make them who they are and are proud to wear them during the night. But after the night is over, the monster take off their pants because they don't want their reparation to be ruined.

Ways to use this in a classroom
1) Have students come up with their own monster and their own pair of pants
2) Count how many different monster they are in the book.
3) Make up a story about one of the monster in the book.
4)Have the students come up with a story similar to this.

RHyming story about how much monsters love underpants. They wear all different kinds. The rhyming and rhythm is a little forced at times, which bothers me for reading out loud. Some pages are really funny and others miss the mark a little. I love the brightly colored illustrations and would recommend this book to kids for a fun read-aloud. I like the end where if you hear a rustling under your bed it could just be a monster trying on your underwear. That will definitely make some kids giggle!

Hehe I LOVE all the underpants in the book and so do my students. Like I have stated I'm every review for this author, this book is just amazing!

I know if I need a book that will keep the kids entertained, I'm going to choose something like this. It's colorful, has silly words, short enough to keep preschooler's attention, and just so fun!👍👍👍

I read this to my 4th graders too (because they need a good story from time to time) and they LOVED IT SOOO MUCH! They might have enjoyed it more than my younger students.

We read 'Aliens love Underpants' (to copy the New Entrants class) and then stumbled upon 'Monsters Love Underpants' which she also enjoyed. The book cover pictures revealed there are more in the series for us to explore :)

Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

This was an adorable story all about monsters and their secret love for underpants! One of the kids picked this as our read aloud and I absolutely loved reading it to them. It's quick, engaging and the vibrant illustrations make it immensely enjoyable. I could easily see an activity or program built around a cute story like this. I gave this five out of five stars and highly recommend this book to all monster lovers big and small.

Who doesn't love to read about silly monsters wearing underpants?? I recently used this book during a Kindergarten Class visit to the library. Monsters Love Underpants was a good choice because it's silly and has bright colorful pictures.

I also really love Freedman's' book Aliens Love Underpants for the same reason.

So the first few weeks my son (4) loved this book. Then it got laid to the side and rejected for a few weeks. Finally last night he handed it to me and said it gave him nightmares about monsters wearing his underwear and he wanted to return it to the library. Fair enough. It IS funny and cute and I liked it a lot. I think he'll want to reread it again when he's a little braver ;)

This was cute, after reading one book in the series it was much easier to figure out the rhythm of the book. I liked the illustrations and am glad unlike the last book I read you only had to rotate the book for one set of pages. I understand why they do the page rotation, it's a good effect but it breaks up reading and can be a little annoying. Still a cute fun book for kids.

Cute, Quirky, and Silly!

Monsters love Underpants! All kinds! Who knew?!
From polka dot, to striped, frozen, slimy, and even metal underwear, they’ll wear them all!

With these brightly colored acrylic paintings of silly monsters and a rhyming text that is easy to follow along, children will fall in love giggling and chuckling away with this story as the perfect read-aloud!

We all know how kids love anything UNDERPANTS! This is another cute book that celebrates silliness and undies! It's not deep or meaningful, but it's entertaining for young kids. I only gave it three stars, because it takes on the same tone as most of the other "underpants" picture books on the market. I liked it and most kids will like it too.

This book is full of humor and different kinds of monsters. Slime monsters to mountain monsters and they all love underpants. Kids will continue to laugh as these monsters put their underpants on. Monsters Love Underpants also has rhyming throughout the story to teach students rhyming.

The illustrations are the best part, but the rhyme scheme also flows nicely. Story is okay, tolerable. It's also fun to listen to Mel Giedroyc read it (should you scan a QR code at the front).
