Paranormal. Vampires and strange rules!
Luis is yanked from his life and sold to the Prince to mate. Really? This is acceptable in this Vampire society, where we should have someone with a conscience and some feelings? He's forced to mate, and stuck in a guest room for 5-6 months with no contact except for the guy who brings food, which he had no will to eat. No contact from Prince Gerome. He's pale, emaciated and neglected. They took away all of his belongings, and he's not allowed to study art. Then, Gerome has to be yelled at by someone to wake up and treat his mate better. Gerome couldn't figure that out on his own? What kind of Alpha Vampire does that to it's mate?
Gerome is a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT.
Sweet artist Luis didn't deserve this, to be sold by his folks and abandoned by his mate.
It's a horrible story and we hate Gerome. Luis is so sad and dejected, and it's so unfair.
Then we are expected to believe that Gerome begins to be nice,
and Luis start to love Gerome? NO WAY.
Luis was trying to survive and reacted to niceness. It's almost like brainwashing. Yuk !
The story has tried hard to change rules, and have the men be in love.

I read the whole book so I could review it , but it was hard work to finish.
I see people have liked this, but not me.

3.5 Stars ~ Sometimes Everyone gets a HEA

This is the story of Luis and Gerome. First, this is a PNR however there isn't very much paranormal in it. Luis is sold to the King as a Mate for Prince Gerome. While neither Luis or Gerome are happy about the required mating, each forced in their own way - Gerome is quicker to accept what must be done. In a ritual that is very brief Gerome and Luis are bound and then sent off to complete the consummation of the mating ceremony. Keep in mind these two just met and neither if them had a say in who they were mating. So as you can imagine their consummation was not one full of passion.


Afterwards, Luis becomes very depressed essentially starving himself and hiding away in his room. It isn't until one of Geromes close friends calls him out on being a jerk that Gerome realizes he needs to try harder to make their lives together better. From that point in the story the plot follows the title pretty much to task. There is an amazing turn of events in the story that helps make this a happy ending - for all.

While I have seen some are unhappy with this story it does take a very archaic subject and real world problem and bring it right to the readers front door. How would you feel if you were forced into a marriage? This used to be common practice and there still are arranged marriages and human trafficking today. So in that respect I think the author does well to make the reader think about a real world problem, while reading a romance story.

***2 Stars - Not a Fan!***

Gerome is a miserable man in an untenable position. Luis is a blissfully ignorant nearly-human man who has no idea what is on the horizon. When Gerome’s father and Luis’s mother create a partnership for their sons, disaster ensues.

I was staggered at the travesty that is this book. Okay, so Gerome has extenuating circumstances and he’s not wanting to get mated, that’s fine. I can totally see an arranged marriage causing friction in the best of circumstances, and these were far from that. But then the vampire becomes a pitiful excuse of manhood. His repeated emotional torture of his mate, first through fear and then through six months of total neglect are reprehensible. To then write that Luis essentially gets over it and falls in love with Gerome to have an HEA? Not buying it - at all. Suspension of belief is one thing, and necessary for mpreg and paranormal to work. This goes far beyond suspension of belief.

The plot is unbelievable, the pacing is chopped all up with six months going by in the turn of a page (almost literally), the main characters are flat, and the only redeeming qualities fall solely in one of the peripheral characters. The first two books were okay, if not stellar, but this was incredibly disappointing.

I read the first book in this series, Alex's Surprise, when it was first offered as a free read from the M/M Romance Group's yearly event. The cliffhanger ending ticked me off so much that I didn't have any intention of reading its sequel. I don't like being manipulated like that, and I thought the cliffhanger was in poor taste and against the spirit of the event.

Then this book became available for review, and I asked whether it was a whole story, without any further cliffies, before I would consider it. Having been assured that it was, I did request and receive a free copy of this book for review from Pride Promotions, as part of the blogtour.

My review forthwith:

I actually quite liked the characters: Gerome, the Vampire Prince from the first book who knocks up Alex and is now forced to take a mate he doesn't know or want if he wants to ensure Alex safety, and Luis, the mostly-human mate, who finds himself sold to the Vampire King by his mother, without having a say in any of the arrangements. I may have shed a couple of tears for him, at his helplessness, at his fear, and at his loneliness. I had no love whatsoever for his mother, who sells him for her own gain, but also felt regret for his father once the circumstances became clearer.

Obviously, Gerome and Luis are not off to a good start, especially after Gerome treats Luis like a possession (which he learned from his father, the King), and basically ruins any chance they might have had for an amicable relationship. In response, Luis, cowered and afraid, retreats into himself, stays in his room, and spends his days watching TV, scared to sleep without one eye open in case Gerome decides to hurt him.

There is a scene fairly early on that is definitely more dubious consent than actual agreement, as the mating between Gerome and Luis requires that they have sex. Now, remember they've never met before, and less than an hour after laying eyes on each other, they are expected to consummate this mating, so the King will send his men to find Alex. The King cares nothing about that, though - he just seemed to enjoy himself doing so. As if he had to prove to Gerome that he was stronger than him. Nasty guy, that one.

I was thoroughly enraged by this point, and became even angrier when Gerome, in a complete and utter dick move, shows the cruel side of himself to Luis immediately after the consummation.

And then he does it again, for a stupid reason, and because he thinks treating his mate as anything other than a submissive thing he own is weakness in his father's eyes. It's no wonder that Luis retreats. The Old Laws of the Vampire society are archaic and cruel, and Gerome isn't man enough to even entertain the thought of questioning them.

Months pass without the two men seeing each other - Luis hiding in his room, Gerome hiding in his work. Until someone not bound by vampire rules has some strong words for Gerome, and he finally begins to use the brain he was given.

I liked the characterizations and how the author allowed the MCs' personalities to slowly emerge over time - Gerome pulls his head out of his ass and realizes what he's done, then sets upon righting the wrongs, and Luis carefully, with baby steps, begins to trust his vampire mate not to hurt him, and they both start to blossom into the men they're meant to be.

I thought that the themes the author used are easily translated into our own societies of today, and how old, archaic laws need(ed) to be changed so all people can live their lives within certain human rights, so arranged marriages, forced marriages, and treating your mate as a possession you own are eradicated.

The more I read on, the more Gerome grew on me, and it became clear that he wasn't like his father, that he actually did care, but didn't see a way out. And it was also clear that Luis is the stronger of the two, perhaps not physically, but certainly emotionally and mentally. He managed to share his strength of convictions with Gerome, and made him stronger in return.

I also liked Sam, Alex's partner, who helps Gerome pulls his head from his ass, and D, one of the King's trackers, who becomes Luis bodyguard and friend. Even Gerome's absent siblings had a part in the changes that are made within the story line.

While I liked the plot and the story flow, I wasn't as enamored with the writing. It's somewhat stilted and doesn't flow well. Some things are repetitive, and the author uses more telling than showing in her writing. I would have liked to connect more with the characters, experience their emotions for myself instead of being told how they feel. In some instances, the personalities are also a little inconsistent in how they develop, though I was able to explain most of that with the tentative truce the two form.

There's a grand scene at the end that I quite liked, and while there is a long period of time without any physical contact between the two MCs, they do make up for it at the end.

Not a bad read, but also not earth-shattering. The title of this book basically tells the progression of the relationship between Gerome and Luis.

This can be read as a stand-alone, though I think it would be better if you're somewhat familiar with the first book. Since it's available for free Goodreads (as long as you're a member of the M/M Romance group), I do recommend reading that first so you understand the circumstances for the forced mating, and Gerome's single-mindedness in agreeing to it. While this book doesn't cover all of what appears to be book 2, it does coincide with those events to some degree.

Bello, bello, BELLO! Ammetto che... la prima volta che ho letto questo libro non ne sono rimasta particolarmente entusiasta, mi era molto piaciuto rispetto ai primi due della serie però non mi aveva colpito così tanto. Due anni dopo, con la rilettura posso però dire che MERITA e anche molto. Rispetto ai primi due è venti spanne sopra. Questa volta infatti non ci troviamo semplicemente di fronte un romanzo erotico con momenti fluffosi e angstosi bensì di fronte un progetto più ampio, un libro più delicato, uno slow burn che da molto spazio ai protagonisti e al loro rapporto presentandoci con abilità non solo sesso a go go ma momenti di introspezione e uno studio più attento del carattere dei protagonisti. Il tono del romanzo è più pesante e quasi claustrofobico in un primo momento. Nella prima parte riviviamo gli eventi del secondo romanzo, ritrovandoci immersi in tutti i problemi e casini legati al rapimento di Alex, un momento delicato che avevamo in precedenza vissuto solo in parte attraverso gli occhi di Alex e Sam, che aveva lasciato punti oscuri e Gerome... piuttosto in disparte. In Amami, se puoi veniamo a sapere esattamente cosa è successo al principe e al suo compagno e conosciamo meglio quest'ultimo che c'era parso così antipatico e scostante, a tal punto da ignorare Sam e il compagno facendo il muso e lanciando sguardi omicidi. Scopriamo la realtà crudele dietro tale atteggiamento e possiamo toccare con mano il dolore di entrambi gli uomini. Da una parte abbiamo Gerome, un principe che ha passato la vita a cercare una persona speciale, che ha rinunciato a sposarsi per molto tempo perché alla ricerca del vero amore e che suo malgrado si ritrova di colpo intrappolato dal padre, costretto per ottenere aiuto a scegliere un compagno senza neanche la possibilità di parlargli una sola volta, è costretto ad unirsi a un perfetto sconosciuto in un legame indissolubile e che non potrà spezzare in alcun modo. È facile empatizzare con lui e capire la sua rabbia, il suo disprezzo e rancore nei confronti di Luis, dopo aver aspettato per tanto tempo è costretto infatti a sacrificarsi per amore della figlia e per dare ad Alex e Sam l'occasione di essere una coppia ed essere felici. Avrebbe potuto sacrificare Alex e sposarsi con lui essendo incinto della figlia ma ha preferito sacrificarsi per AMORE e questo mi ha fatto finalmente vedere un Gerome diverso, molto diverso dal principe irresponsabile e freddo che credevo. Viviamo quindi la sofferenza di Gerome e capiamo come si sente desiderando punire quel fastidio e tifare per il nostro eroe dimenticando però che dall'altra parte... c'è un'altra vittima, Luis, il ragazzo non conosce Gerome e non ha alcuna colpa di quello che succede, è un artista con la sua vita, i suoi amici che è stato tradito dalla famiglia che amavano, preso e venduto come una bambola al re per unirsi con il principe, un principe che non conosce e con cui non ha avuto modo di parlare neanche una volta. Luis si ritrova impossibilitato a continuare i suoi studi, bloccato in un luogo ostile e quando incontra Gerome l'unica cosa che desidererebbe è almeno una faccia amica, una persona che come lui si ribelli a quell'ingiusta situazione, il primo incontro è drammatico, Luis prega Gerome di non farlo, di lasciarlo andare e non cedere a leggi assurde, vorrebbe una persona che lo comprende e invece si ritrova di fronte un uomo ai suoi occhi spietato e che parla solo di leggi e obblighi, ossessionato così tanto dal desiderio di ritrovare Alex da non parlargli, da obbligarlo a unirsi a lui per poi buttarlo via. I capitoli di Luis sono dolorosi, anche più di quelli del principe e fanno male, pensare che ahimè la realtà di Luis è REALE in molti paesi del mondo, in cui bambine vengono vendute a uomini più grandi semplicemente per "tradizioni" ti fa pensare. La prima parte del libro è di conseguenza un pugno nello stomaco in cui è impossibile non tifare per entrambi i protagonisti, si sta male per Luis che si sta letteralmente lasciando morire rinchiudendosi in una stanza a piangere e per Gerome che alla fine è egli stesso una vittima per quanto i suoi modi siano più consoni a un carnefice. Chris McHart riesce ad analizzare benissimo la psicologia di entrambi e allo stesso tempo a raccontarci i retroscena del rapimento di Alex e le mosse che hanno portato alla sua liberazione e che per ovvi motivi erano state accennate solamente in precedenza. Lo ha fatto con abilità e senza cadere in inutili scene di violenza, senza ricorrere per forza a stupri o chi più be ha più ne metta e ho potuto apprezzare e amare la narrazione. La seconda parte... è finalmente dedicata alla storia d'amore tra i due ma il tutto senza cadere nel "Wow sei figo, chissene degli abusi, Ti amo <3" il rapporto tra i due è di una lentezza allucinante che potrebbe quasi snervare i più ma è PERFETTO. Gerome non capisce il perché Luis stia male, per lui Luis dovrebbe essere felice, ha un tetto sopra la testa, non viene violentato e ha cibo caldo nel piatto, non comprende il dolore dell'uomo finché Sam non glielo fa notare, fino a che l'amico non lo mette con le spalle al muro mostrandogli le sue responsabilità e che Luis non è il suo carnefice ma una vittima come lui, un uomo innocente spinto in un gioco in cui non può vincere. Gerome capisce finalmente cosa ha fatto e che le sue azioni son state crudeli, che il non prendere a pugni qualcuno non significa non essere violenti in un altro modo, si rende conto di aver fatto male a Luis con il suo atteggiamento, non ha mai provato a conoscere il compagno lasciando che si autodistruggesse. Subentra quindi la vergogna e il desiderio di cambiare, se non di innamorarsi dell'uomo almeno di conoscerlo e rendere la loro "prigionia", il loro legame, sopportabile. Gerome inizia quindi a mostrare il suo lato umano e Luis piano piano inizia ad aprirsi, si rende conto lui stesso dei suoi errori, nonostante sia una vittima lui stesso non ha provato a creare un rapporto, ha ignorato il dolore di Gerome focalizzandosi sui suoi problemi, senza tentare di diventare suo amico piangendosi addosso per mesi. i due uomini si ritrovano messi di fronte le proprie responsabilità, i propri limiti e difetti. Con abilità Chris riesce a far fare ai protagonisti piccoli passi uno verso l'altro, facendoli avvicinare e diventare prima di tutto amici e confidenti e solo in seguito amanti. Non manca la parte erotica ma è solo al fondo del romanzo e solo quando entrambi lo vogliono, quando entrambi si sono resi conto del legame che ormai li lega. Mi ha colpito la delicatezza e il messaggio positivo che traspare, la lotta contro leggi barbariche e l'importanza di rivendicare fino in fondo la propria libertà. Luis e Gerome infatti non si arrendono e una volta diventati amici si rendono conto che aspettare girandosi i pollici dicendo "Ma si, cambierò le leggi quando sarò re" non funziona perchè il futuro è in quel momento! Perché in quel momento persone innocenti vengono sacrificate come carne da macello e non tutte hanno la fortuna di Luis, di non essere violentate e abusate e con questa consapevolezza lottano fianco a fianco riuscendo con non poche difficoltà a cambiare le crudeli leggi donando la libertà a tutte le vittime dell'ingiustizia e a se stessi, scegliendo di seguire il proprio cuore e sposarsi per AMORE e non per imposizione. Un libro interessante e che MERITA, merita molto per la delicatezza e i temi trattati. Un romanzo affatto banale e che sono contenta di aver riletto e aver finalmente compreso al meglio. Lo consiglio? Assolutamente si! Consiglio di leggerlo però solo dopo aver letto la duologia precedente, anche se infatti gli eventi vengono riassunti durante il libro è ugualmente importante leggerli per comprendere meglio la vicenda e conoscere alcuni personaggi che rincontreremo in futuro come Ash e D, protagonisti del quarto titolo della serie e che senza la lettura non potrete apprezzare al meglio.

I am so pissed off at the author right now ... and for that, I'm one-starring this book!! WHY you ask?!!? Well, I purchased the first edition of this book a LONG TIME ago, and NOWHERE did the author "warn" her readers that THIS WAS A FUCKING MPREG!!!!!!!!!
I absolutely abhor/detest/loathe/hate MPreg!!! I dislike it with a perfect passion!!! NOWHERE in the blurb did it say or even fucking INDICATE that this was MPreg!! The NEW editions have the info listed as a heads up, but that's a recent change!!
Listen, I get some people don't want to know anything about a book heading into it, but don't paint all readers with the same ridiculous fucking brush!!! You don't order food in a restaurant without knowing EXACTLY what's in the dish you're consuming, and I DO NOT WANT TO GET FUCKING SURPRISED BY A RIDICULOUS TROPE I DO NOT WANT TO READ ABOUT!!
SO AUTHOR ... DO NOT SURPRISE ME WITH IT, DO NOT IMPOSE IT ON ME, DO NOT "FORCE" ME TO FUCKING READ IT, JUST BECAUSE I MADE THE STUPID MISTAKE OF INVESTING MONEY IN A BOOK I THOUGHT WOULD BE A GREAT ONE!! This is the third book in the unexpected series. Because of the laws surrounding the world this story takes place in the author warns you there is a scene in the book that “could be seen as involving dubious consent”.

Prince Gerome and Luis are mated against their will. Gerome had always hoped to find love and mate with the man that completed him. Luis was a carefree student. Now he is in a nightmare mating with a vampire prince who expects his submission. This is and has been the way of the world they live in. They can’t run, there is nowhere for them to hide except within themselves. Louis withdraws until he is a mere ghost of the man he once was. Gerome is buried deeper and deeper in the ever-increasing workloads of running the kingdom that the king piles on him. This run-away train of a mating was headed for a surefire crash and burn unless something changed. The intervention of a friend buts the brakes on this train and steers it to another track where there is a chance that these opposing forces can find a middle ground between tradition and desire.

The character Gerome, whom I had mixed feelings about, was the most complex and
well-developed of the series. The way he made a marriage between his duties, responsibilities to others and the things he knew to be right was great. His ability to bring about change in practices that were so old no one even knew why they were in place, priceless. Luis, on the other hand had been a spoiled turn off for me. He was a bit bratty and for a while I just didn’t like him. For me, that’s what made this book worth reading. Moreover, I figured with Alex being saved and all, what was left to tell? How wrong I was. The story of the repair of this relationship and the growth of Gerome as a young monarch was amazing and held my attention right through to the last word.

Eccoci finalmente giunti al terzo volume della saga M-preg (Male pregnant, gravidanza maschile) di Chris McHart. Tempo fa, l’autrice aveva preventivato quattro libri in totale, ma questo volume è molto più corposo dei precedenti, contiene più del doppio delle pagine, quindi non so se siamo arrivati alla conclusione, anche se non mi dispiacerebbe dar spazio ad altri personaggi – le coppie in via di sistemazione non mancano – e sarebbe bello leggere ancora su questa strana ‘famiglia allargata’.
La trama riparte facendo un lungo passo indietro, raccontandoci gli eventi finali del secondo libro, ma dal punto di vista di Gerome. E, se da un lato la curiosità è inferiore, perché si sa già cosa accadrà, dall’altro è interessante scoprire i pensieri, le paure e i desideri del vampiro tenebroso.
Dopo un’impressione non proprio positiva nel primo libro, avevo già rivalutato il suo personaggio nella mia precedente recensione, ma qui mi sono trovata a provare sentimenti ambivalenti verso di lui. Gerome, per sua natura buono e generoso, è invece un’anima tormentata, plagiata da anni di insegnamenti arcaici, fatti di sottomissione, obbedienza e forza coercitiva, ha un ruolo istituzionale imposto dal suo rango e non ha il diritto di vivere come vuole.
Come già sappiamo, per salvare Alex e il loro bambino, Gerome non esita a sacrificarsi, unendosi ad un perfetto sconosciuto in una vita destinata all’infelicità – e questo è a dir poco lodevole –, ma allo stesso tempo non si preoccupa del trauma di Luis, derivante dalla loro unione.
Certo, sono entrambi vittime, ma Gerome – in un certo senso – accetta l’accoppiamento imposto, mentre Luis non ha voce in capitolo, è solo merce comprata.
Dentro il vampiro c’è un continuo alternarsi di stati d’animo, in una sfinente battaglia interiore, che sfocia in atteggiamenti e azioni contrastanti verso il compagno.
La loro convivenza inizia nel peggiore dei modi e si dovrà davvero toccare il fondo prima della lenta risalita verso la felicità, in una strada tutt’altro che rettilinea, fatta di scossoni, retromarce, sensi unici e inversioni.
Per fortuna che ci saranno Sam e Alex a sostenerli, così come il segugio D, assieme ad altri parenti che li aiuteranno non solo come coppia, ma anche verso un progetto ben più importante e ambizioso.
Le scene di natura sessuale non sono molte, ma gradevoli ed esplicite. Come già detto nella sinossi, ve n’è una che si potrebbe considerare di dubbio consenso, dovuta alla costrizione del patto, ma non risulta disturbante o offensiva.
Il libro tocca argomenti sensibili, come le unioni forzate (che purtroppo accadono ancora nel mondo), la depressione, la violenza domestica e molto altro, ma i toni non sono mai eccessivamente cupi o drammatici, quindi ne esce una lettura piacevole, supportata da un ottimo editing nella traduzione italiana.
Libro consigliato a chi ama le storie M-preg e imperdibile per chi ha letto i precedenti.

Bello, bello, BELLO! Ammetto che... la prima volta che ho letto questo libro non ne sono rimasta particolarmente entusiasta, mi era molto piaciuto rispetto ai primi due della serie però non mi aveva colpito così tanto. Due anni dopo, con la rilettura posso però dire che MERITA e anche molto. Rispetto ai primi due è venti spanne sopra. Questa volta infatti non ci troviamo semplicemente di fronte un romanzo erotico con momenti fluffosi e angstosi bensì di fronte un progetto più ampio, un libro più delicato, uno slow burn che da molto spazio ai protagonisti e al loro rapporto presentandoci con abilità non solo sesso a go go ma momenti di introspezione e uno studio più attento del carattere dei protagonisti. Il tono del romanzo è più pesante e quasi claustrofobico in un primo momento. Nella prima parte riviviamo gli eventi del secondo romanzo, ritrovandoci immersi in tutti i problemi e casini legati al rapimento di Alex, un momento delicato che avevamo in precedenza vissuto solo in parte attraverso gli occhi di Alex e Sam, che aveva lasciato punti oscuri e Gerome... piuttosto in disparte. In Amami, se puoi veniamo a sapere esattamente cosa è successo al principe e al suo compagno e conosciamo meglio quest'ultimo che c'era parso così antipatico e scostante, a tal punto da ignorare Sam e il compagno facendo il muso e lanciando sguardi omicidi. Scopriamo la realtà crudele dietro tale atteggiamento e possiamo toccare con mano il dolore di entrambi gli uomini. Da una parte abbiamo Gerome, un principe che ha passato la vita a cercare una persona speciale, che ha rinunciato a sposarsi per molto tempo perché alla ricerca del vero amore e che suo malgrado si ritrova di colpo intrappolato dal padre, costretto per ottenere aiuto a scegliere un compagno senza neanche la possibilità di parlargli una sola volta, è costretto ad unirsi a un perfetto sconosciuto in un legame indissolubile e che non potrà spezzare in alcun modo. È facile empatizzare con lui e capire la sua rabbia, il suo disprezzo e rancore nei confronti di Luis, dopo aver aspettato per tanto tempo è costretto infatti a sacrificarsi per amore della figlia e per dare ad Alex e Sam l'occasione di essere una coppia ed essere felici. Avrebbe potuto sacrificare Alex e sposarsi con lui essendo incinto della figlia ma ha preferito sacrificarsi per AMORE e questo mi ha fatto finalmente vedere un Gerome diverso, molto diverso dal principe irresponsabile e freddo che credevo. Viviamo quindi la sofferenza di Gerome e capiamo come si sente desiderando punire quel fastidio e tifare per il nostro eroe dimenticando però che dall'altra parte... c'è un'altra vittima, Luis, il ragazzo non conosce Gerome e non ha alcuna colpa di quello che succede, è un artista con la sua vita, i suoi amici che è stato tradito dalla famiglia che amavano, preso e venduto come una bambola al re per unirsi con il principe, un principe che non conosce e con cui non ha avuto modo di parlare neanche una volta. Luis si ritrova impossibilitato a continuare i suoi studi, bloccato in un luogo ostile e quando incontra Gerome l'unica cosa che desidererebbe è almeno una faccia amica, una persona che come lui si ribelli a quell'ingiusta situazione, il primo incontro è drammatico, Luis prega Gerome di non farlo, di lasciarlo andare e non cedere a leggi assurde, vorrebbe una persona che lo comprende e invece si ritrova di fronte un uomo ai suoi occhi spietato e che parla solo di leggi e obblighi, ossessionato così tanto dal desiderio di ritrovare Alex da non parlargli, da obbligarlo a unirsi a lui per poi buttarlo via. I capitoli di Luis sono dolorosi, anche più di quelli del principe e fanno male, pensare che ahimè la realtà di Luis è REALE in molti paesi del mondo, in cui bambine vengono vendute a uomini più grandi semplicemente per "tradizioni" ti fa pensare. La prima parte del libro è di conseguenza un pugno nello stomaco in cui è impossibile non tifare per entrambi i protagonisti, si sta male per Luis che si sta letteralmente lasciando morire rinchiudendosi in una stanza a piangere e per Gerome che alla fine è egli stesso una vittima per quanto i suoi modi siano più consoni a un carnefice. Chris McHart riesce ad analizzare benissimo la psicologia di entrambi e allo stesso tempo a raccontarci i retroscena del rapimento di Alex e le mosse che hanno portato alla sua liberazione e che per ovvi motivi erano state accennate solamente in precedenza. Lo ha fatto con abilità e senza cadere in inutili scene di violenza, senza ricorrere per forza a stupri o chi più be ha più ne metta e ho potuto apprezzare e amare la narrazione. La seconda parte... è finalmente dedicata alla storia d'amore tra i due ma il tutto senza cadere nel "Wow sei figo, chissene degli abusi, Ti amo <3" il rapporto tra i due è di una lentezza allucinante che potrebbe quasi snervare i più ma è PERFETTO. Gerome non capisce il perché Luis stia male, per lui Luis dovrebbe essere felice, ha un tetto sopra la testa, non viene violentato e ha cibo caldo nel piatto, non comprende il dolore dell'uomo finché Sam non glielo fa notare, fino a che l'amico non lo mette con le spalle al muro mostrandogli le sue responsabilità e che Luis non è il suo carnefice ma una vittima come lui, un uomo innocente spinto in un gioco in cui non può vincere. Gerome capisce finalmente cosa ha fatto e che le sue azioni son state crudeli, che il non prendere a pugni qualcuno non significa non essere violenti in un altro modo, si rende conto di aver fatto male a Luis con il suo atteggiamento, non ha mai provato a conoscere il compagno lasciando che si autodistruggesse. Subentra quindi la vergogna e il desiderio di cambiare, se non di innamorarsi dell'uomo almeno di conoscerlo e rendere la loro "prigionia", il loro legame, sopportabile. Gerome inizia quindi a mostrare il suo lato umano e Luis piano piano inizia ad aprirsi, si rende conto lui stesso dei suoi errori, nonostante sia una vittima lui stesso non ha provato a creare un rapporto, ha ignorato il dolore di Gerome focalizzandosi sui suoi problemi, senza tentare di diventare suo amico piangendosi addosso per mesi. i due uomini si ritrovano messi di fronte le proprie responsabilità, i propri limiti e difetti. Con abilità Chris riesce a far fare ai protagonisti piccoli passi uno verso l'altro, facendoli avvicinare e diventare prima di tutto amici e confidenti e solo in seguito amanti. Non manca la parte erotica ma è solo al fondo del romanzo e solo quando entrambi lo vogliono, quando entrambi si sono resi conto del legame che ormai li lega. Mi ha colpito la delicatezza e il messaggio positivo che traspare, la lotta contro leggi barbariche e l'importanza di rivendicare fino in fondo la propria libertà. Luis e Gerome infatti non si arrendono e una volta diventati amici si rendono conto che aspettare girandosi i pollici dicendo "Ma si, cambierò le leggi quando sarò re" non funziona perchè il futuro è in quel momento! Perché in quel momento persone innocenti vengono sacrificate come carne da macello e non tutte hanno la fortuna di Luis, di non essere violentate e abusate e con questa consapevolezza lottano fianco a fianco riuscendo con non poche difficoltà a cambiare le crudeli leggi donando la libertà a tutte le vittime dell'ingiustizia e a se stessi, scegliendo di seguire il proprio cuore e sposarsi per AMORE e non per imposizione. Un libro interessante e che MERITA, merita molto per la delicatezza e i temi trattati. Un romanzo affatto banale e che sono contenta di aver riletto e aver finalmente compreso al meglio. Lo consiglio? Assolutamente si! Consiglio di leggerlo però solo dopo aver letto la duologia precedente, anche se infatti gli eventi vengono riassunti durante il libro è ugualmente importante leggerli per comprendere meglio la vicenda e conoscere alcuni personaggi che rincontreremo in futuro come Ash e D, protagonisti del quarto titolo della serie e che senza la lettura non potrete apprezzare al meglio.

We first met Prince Gerome in books 1 & 2 Unexpected series. In Alex's surprise Gerome and Alex have a one night stand and much to both their surprises Alex ends up getting pregnant. Gerome didn't know that it was possible but he stands by Alex. Gerome didn't get his HEA however because he and Alex do not love each other and we learn that Alex is in love with his friend Sam.

In book 3 Mate Me, Hate Me, Date Me, Love Me Gerome finally gets his HEA but after a rather painful journey. As the book opens Gerome is lonely. He knows he will have a relationship with the unborn child he shares with Alex and although he is friends with Alex and Sam he knows he isn't really part of their little family and he wants a mate of his own - someone to love and be loved by.
But when Alex is kidnapped Gerome's father the King offers him a deal. He will help save Alex and the baby and in return Gerome must take part in an arranged mating.

Gerome is devastated to know he will now never mate for love. And in his despair when he meets and mates Luis he treats him horribly using power and submission. Luis is traumatised by what's happening to him, knowing he can't escape he retreats into himself and hides in his room.

I found it refreshing how the Alpha and Omega were both forced into the arranged marriage and the nature in which their mating we done. They both just wanted to be loved for themselves and both suffered. After getting advice from Sam Gerome decides he needs to make some changes where his mate is concerned. He calls a truce with his mate and sets about trying to become his friend. With friendship comes trust which leads to dating which leads to kisses which leads to dot dot dot.

I wish I'd re-read books 1 & 2 before reading this one as I think there were bits I'd forgotten at the start of book 3. And although I liked the first two books I preferred this one even more.

if you like Mpreg then you'll enjoy this one but read the first two books first.

Quanto ho sofferto per il povero Gerome! (vabbè, sicuramente anche per Luis, ma lui lo conoscevo meno...) Fin dal primo romanzo della serie il principe ereditario mi era sembrato un personaggio sensibile che nascondeva dietro ad un'apparenza inscalfibile i suoi sentimenti e le sue emozioni: nella sua storia scopriremo veramente quanto lui sia altruista e gentile, anche se a volte si dimostra anche un po' dispotico, ma non dimentichiamo che è un principe dopotutto! Il suo rapporto con Luis nasce sotto auspici tutt'altro che positivi e con delle basi che definire traballanti sarebbe un eufemismo, ma, ciò che mi ha fatto amare patricolarmente questa storia, è la forza che dimostrano entrambi, una forza che gli permette di rinascere nei momenti più bui.
Gli amici di sempre e nuovi alleati inaspettati permetteranno ai due di vivere finalmente sereni e di gettare le basi per cambiamenti importanti in tutta la comunità. Avevo amato molto i romanzi precedenti della serie ma questo mi ha letteralmente rapita e tenuta incollata fino alla fine facendomi vivere un caleidoscopio di emozioni (a volte anche contrastanti tra loro!).

It was mediocre in every way, just like the two books before this one in the series...

Gerome was incredibly unlikable for way too long, and while I'm happy that eventually he understood that he was an ass for no reason, it still just never had to come this far.
The story felt a bit pointless and bland, it felt like there was basically nothing really happening, and then suddenly they were just over all the problems in the past and in love.
The writing was very drawn out, mentioning pointless facts over and over again just to get a larger word count or something.
I skipped over quite a few boring parts, including the sex scenes. Wouldn't read again.

This story had a bit of extra interest: the argument against arranged marriages, or forced matings that take away every single right of the submissive: they become property.

Gerome is forced to mate with frightened human, Luis, so that King Harold will help find the kidnapped Alex (Saving Alex: 1&2). This story is the aftermath.

Gerome immediately becomes that which he most hates, his father, as he copes very badly with Luis in his life. Sam, Alex's partner, and best friend to Gerome gives the prince some very sage advice (in addition to calling him an a**hole). Gerome takes Sam's advice to heart because he really is not his father, and he aches for Luis and wants to make him happy.

Luis, unfortunately, in short order has become terrified of Gerome to the point he is contemplating running away. Until Gerome returns with an attitude change from Sam & Alex's wedding.

Love, as is told, takes time and patience. Gerome does not make any headway with Luis until Luis sees that Gerome is truthful in his intention to change things as much as is possible for his forced mate. Luis has to change, too.

Together, the two men see their relationship change for the better. When they both finally admit to being in love with each other, that is when Luis encourages Gerome to change the old vampire law about enforced mating and the selling of mates to the in-laws.

I enjoyed the first book but this one was more enjoyable in the richness of the characters and how alive they were on the pages of the book.

Ini cerita paling aneh dan tidak masuk akal menurut logika dan nalar saya.
Jadi awal cerita Luis yang datang dari keluarga klan vampire adalah percampuran beda ras (ibu seorang vampire dan berayah manusia). Tradisi pernikahan dalam cerita ini adalah seorang vampire bisa membeli seorang manusia atau vampire lainnya untuk dijadikan pasangan hidup mereka. Hal ini yang terjadi pada ayah dan ibu Luis yang diceritakan di awal cerita. Yang mana berimbas pada perjodohan sepihak Luis dengan Pangeran Gerome, anak Raja Vampire Harold. Gerome menolak rencana perjodohan dan pernikahan paksa tersebut karena Gerome pernah memiliki pasangan one night stand seorang manusia bernama Alex yang tengah mengandung anaknya dan kini Alex diculik oleh Raja Harold sebagai jaminan agar Gerome setuju dengan pernikahan tersebut. Ini semakin unik karena Alex telah memiliki kekasih bernama Sam.

Yang menurut saya konyol namun bikin saya tertawa adalah saat “mating” pertama kali. Gerome menjadi pihak bottom. Jangan salah sangka, mengingat dia sudah menghamili pria lain saya kira yang menjadi bottom adalah Luis. Karena di awal cerita Gerome dilukiskan lebih power dan arogan sementara Luis terkesan lemah dan tak berdaya. Proses jatuh cintanya pun sangat absurd dan cepat. Beberapa bab saya terpaksa skip karena sudah bakal bisa menebak ke arah mana cerita ini dibawa. Petunjuknya sesuai judul buku : Mate, Hate, Date and Love. Kecuali semua itu missplaced dan tidak benar-benar ada kebencian diantara mereka.

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-
Away-book like 'Liberty' from Seth Kann ing,
'Save that he kids' series from EM Leya or
'Jesse's Smile' from Angelique Jurd), it's like
an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a
WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises
(like most of Andrew Grey books) it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few
times (most romances where you can enjoy
for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, but
not really an often reread book

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-
reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but
it was ok) It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too
many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an
absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole
line, dismissed, repeat the class

Loved it! This is the 3rd book in the Unexpected series and it gets better with each book. You need to read the books in order to enjoy them fully. Gerome and Luis are my favorite characters so far and it is great to get Gerome's perspective of their forced mating. They have a lot of obstacles to overcome in their relationship and Sam has to help Gerome get his head out of his butt. I love a HEA and this book delivers.

It felt like this book was written with a little less enthusiasm than the others in the series and that it was almost forced out in parts. But I'm glad to have gotten Luis and Gerome's story. I also look forward to reading about the other loves brewing in this universe.
The shift in feelings did seem rather abrupt between the two MCs and their affection didn't really flow, but it was still an interesting read.

Marry Me

This was an enjoyable conclusion to the series. Trust and love come on the heels of a forced mating. Once the prince recognizes the importance of changing old laws things move rapidly in the vampire coven. Arranging for the king to accept the 'new world order' takes a group effort!

Something dark that turns to light

Mate Me, Hate Me , Date Me was a nook of contradictions. The book started off dark, the main characters being being forced together and one of them having no rights. Then the book turns around to be about love and helping those who have no rights. I throughly enjoyed myself and look forward to the next book

I can't say that I really liked this one much. I have no problem with dark stories what-so-ever, but this one just read as neglect/abuse/Stockholm syndrome rather than a love story. I didn't care for Gerome's character in the first books and his story has done nothing to change my opinion.

A Mating of Convenience - Hard Earned Love

"A mating is based on a few things like dominance and obedience, " Prince Gerome said to his newly introduced mate. He had to establish his control immediately. He wouldn't be disrespected by someone he owned. Bought and paid for by his father King Harold from Luis' mother. This begins the third book of the Unexpected series by Chris McHart.

This mating was the bargain Gerome had to make with his father, the King Vampire of Munich. He had to consummate the mating after a short bonding procedure conducted by the King. Luis was not happy, in fact he was downright miserable, little did he know that Gerome was just as unhappy. But Gerome had to be strong, hard, though hopefully not cruel, with his new mate. Making sure they had sex, so the King would help in tracking down the kidnapped father of his unborn child.

"You are Mine! I can do what I want. It won't be rape because you're my mate. You don't have a say anymore. " Gerome said to his new mate, Luis. When he protested, "I won't do it! I would rather die!" Gerome was forced to inform him that the King would kill him if he tried to back out and not complete the mating. No, Luis had not realized that. He was horrified. " I won't touch you again after this. Look at it as a business deal. We have to do this regardless of whether or not we want it."

This was an one time happening. Afterwards they could go on with their lives as if nothing had occurred. What Luis wanted was now a thing of the past. It ended when his parents sold him. He couldn't seem to get warm, ever since his power hungry mother told him he was the property of Prince Gerome. Luis was notified more than a slave. Bossy. Intimidating. While so far he had not turned physically violent. His threats of violence were intended to force compliancy from a wilful mate.

This was so unfair - Luis felt so helpless. He had no choice but to comply or face terrible consequences. Gerome's words were so vicious, so full of retribution, that Luis felt he no choice but to do as he was told. Or face the wrath of the next in line to the throne? Or he could literally disappear into the guest room that was now his prison?

At times this is a hard book to read. It doesn't have a quick easy resolution. There is pain, suffering, stubbornness, out dated traditions versus modern society. People we met in the first two books return as important characters, as well as, some equally as important new ones. I wanted the two mates to hurriedly resolve their problems, but that did not happen. I hurt for what happened to Luis. I wanted someone to knock some sense into Gerome. But it took almost too long, at the expense of both mates.

This is a lengthy book that technically could be read alone, but then the reader would miss out on such an excellent author's unique take on Vampires and their mates that began in the first two books of the Unexpected series. This is a book about what can happen when Mating is not between two paranormals pulled together by Fate. There's no mate pull here. These mates are purchased, forced into a bond, mated, legal slavery that has become tradition. The mates have no voice, no freedom. Not allowed to work, go to school, or have their own money. Old relationships including close friendships, family ties, and former lovers are dissolved. This tradition of forced mating is the story of Gerome and Luis relationship. But it is not the end chapter. A friend's intervention opens Gerome's eyes, but centuries old traditions do not go away easily. Neither does fear or hate. How Gerome wins his mate's trust, dissipates his hate, and leads to the unthawing of Luis ice cold heart makes this a very enthralling book.

Hope this is not the end of the series though, because there are some characters who the reader root for and want nothing less than a HEA for them.
