The Titanic succumbed to an iceberg, that’s the history we’ve come to believe. But does that mean it’s the truth?
Nora Ryan couldn’t believe her luck when she’s appointed as the onboard nurse for White Star Line’s pride and joy. It was the biggest cruise liner in the world and she was being paid to go on the maiden voyage. Nora was prepared to treat common illnesses, but what she found aboard was something she’d never witnessed before.
A virus unlike anything her schooling had taught her had found its way aboard the cruise liner. One passenger had already succumbed, dozens more were infected as the virus rapidly spread through the ship. Nora would have thought death would bring peace to the ill, little did she know they would wake with a blood thirst threatening the few remaining survivors.
It’s a race against the clock to find a way to stop the virus from spreading. She turns to Gill, a stowaway, to help her find a solution. But Nora and Gill soon realize a solution wasn’t the goal, survival was.
A Titanic Disaster is the second installment in the Infected Histories Series. Alathia Morgan makes you look more closely at the facts you have learned and make you question everything and everyone. Is history a true reflection of the past, or merely palatable fiction at its best? You decide.
This original and unique version of the sinking of the Titanic brings together a group of lovable characters who look danger in the face as the dead rise, scratching, biting, eating and being far more dangerous than any iceberg, and they took me on one hellacious voyage.
I really enjoyed this book. I like the use of the Titanic as the setting. Knowing the outcome of the voyage only added to the suspense as the plot unfolded. The characters were well written and the story flows nicely. Definitely worth the read! Adding this author to my list of future reads.
WELL HANDLED I’m not a great fan of zombie type books, but I am a fan of disaster books. I would have loved it a lot more if the disease had been one which did not involve biting flesh off the next victim. Having said that, I think the author handled the human side very well, and the character building worked well for me. A rather clever idea matching two disparate ideas into one event, and I can see the door was left open for a follow on book.
So, what really happened to the Titanic? In this historical fiction book, we are given another story and another reason why the Titanic sank. As the book opens, a man is running from some kind of monsters, and he has been bitten and slashed. He manages to steal aboard the Titanic as she is getting ready for her maiden voyage. He is later found comatose in a stateroom and taken to the infirmary. The doctor is useless, he would rather drink than doctor, so it all falls on the head nurse Nora to treat this and all patients. After he dies, he somehow comes to life again, and starts biting and eating people on board. As the truth sinks in, Nora and head stewart Jonathon do what they can to control the infection from spreading. Can they hold off until reaching America, or will more drastic measures have to be taken? There is a sequel to this, I doubt that I will read it.
My only regret with this book is that it is too short. This is an extremely well told story and put together beautifully with titanic history. I just wish it were longer to do the true story of the titanic justice.
The historical writing is so well done and then it keeps you on the edge of your seat as you’re actually right along there with the characters. I got attached to them, but would do much more so with more background. I appreciate the follow up about what happens to them afterward, as well as the cliffhanger about the infection returning in World War I.
Not your normal zombie read! I love the zombie genre, but its awesome when authors can throw together something out in left field that's not been done before. Being obsessed with titanic, I like that the author kept to the real storyline of the ships sinking, she just threw in some meat eating zombies. The characters were likable and interesting. Even though I kept yelling at them, THEY'RE TURNING, RUN! They never listened. A definite page turner. If you love zombie and historical titanic, this is another twist I didn't see coming on their maiden voyage.
What a great premise! I always wondered how in the heck the Titanic ran into a giant iceberg, now I know! Knowing how the story goes, the tension is already high before you even begin to read, but then Alathia Paris Morgan ratches it up and keeps the pages turning. The characters draw you in and I found myself googling facts about the Titanic in hopes that my favorites would have a chance at survival! Such entertaining story-telling. I am definitely looking for more from this author and am going to share this one with my reluctant teen reader. I think he'll love it!
I feel like the sci-fi channel should make a zombies on the titanic movie now. Decent story. I do wish that there was more details that set me in the time period and give me a good idea of what the characters are feeling. Over all this was quick, easy, reading.
An alternate history/fiction pinning the sinking of the Titanic on zombies. While it's a good attempt to catch habits and speech of the time, sometimes it wasn't quite right. Two major things that throw me out beside a few editing errors: „Catch ya later“ doesn't really sound authentic for 1912, and the zip wasn't commonly used in clothing until 15-20 years later. Also, starting in Belfast, what happened there? And how could all the survivors keep quiet? I would have loved in the epilogue to mentioned some of the survivors to write novels and later movies about the zombies as it more or less started to take off 17 years later. Anyway, it was an entertaining read.
Infected Waters by Alathia Paris Morgan is a mixture of zombie and historical fiction. I found the historical references to the Titanic interesting especially since I did not consider that the ship did not have bathrooms in each of the staterooms. In 1912 most people were still using outhouses and chamber pots! I enjoyed the interaction between Lillian and Gil.
If you enjoy the television show "The Walking Dead", you will probably like this book. I am not a big fan of the show. I did enjoy the story in the book, minus the zombies!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I so enjoyed this book. Take the Titanic and add a zombie; a courageous twist that many authors might not try. The book had two big pluses for me. Firstly, the author did a really good job in her depiction of this terrible historical disaster. Secondly, she entwined the zombie plot effortlessly and in a very good character driven way.
This was an entertaining, engrossing and thoroughly researched story that didn't disappoint.
This is a unique story! I love the combination of history and horror. The author did a great job capturing the Titanic disaster while weaving in the zombies. This is a very interesting twist on zombies. The characters are well developed. The story was action packed, engrossing and I did not know what to expect next. I enjoyed this story. Well done!
I enjoyed this take on the Titanic sinking. The author took them time to let know and care about the characters. This moved the zombie part a bit slow. Once that got going, it snowballed much in the way one expects it would. I enjoyed getting to know the characters so this worked for me. *I received a copy of this book through BookSprout. This is definitely one great book and one I would recommend to everyone who loves a good zombie story and loves to read anything and everything about the "Titanic". Alathia Paris Morgan has definitely written a book and just by looking at the cover it had me hooked, even before I read the first page. With all the books out there with zombies threatening the world in one way or another, I still have not come across any books sounding the same as one I've read earlier. Even with the few that are out about the Titanic and the undead, none even come close to repeating themselves and Alathia Paris Morgan's book is another I can put in that same setting. She has done one super job with this story and I thank you very much Alathia, you rock.... Gil and Lillian became my favorite people right off the bat, with sincerely Samuel, Lillian's brother that last on my list. She had me rooting for Gil & Lillian from the moment they entered the story, even before they met each other. Captain Smith doing the only thing he can to stop the virus from spreading to America. Again, I thank you, ma'am.
It’s been a long while since I read a Zombie book, and this was in the authors newsletter. It’s the first of a series, which is always exciting.
It is set in 1912 as the Titanic makes her fateful maiden voyage. There are several main characters, and they all play an important part in the plot. I really enjoyed them. I also loved the idea of it being on a ship, where ladies paraded the deck, and gentlemen were very polite. All the while it’s has an undercurrent of something bad happening . The author did a magnificent job of creating characters within an epic story line.
Overall, I really enjoyed the plot, characters, and zombies. However, there were a lot of errors, such as missing or incorrect words. And it needed a good edit too. It was a shame, because this really is a terrific tale and it deserves to be the best it can be.
Those who enjoy a great story, horror, and history will find this fascinating. I highly recommend it, and I will probably read the next book, too.
I’ve always been fascinated with the sad fate of the Titanic so when I saw the premise of this book I was instantly interested in reading it. I happened upon it by chance. That was lucky. It was a sit down in an afternoon in front of the fireplace quick enjoyable read. Just as the flu threatens lives today, back then an infectious disease caught hold creating panic and death. There’s no lack of tension and mystery as the story is propelled forth in this very interesting setting. An enjoyable read!
This was a fun read, and I will definitely read the sequel. There were some continuity issues as well as some issues with conflicting character development. I sometimes had trouble following which character was the subject, especially during conversations. There were also typos, so there may have been some oversights in editing.
Overall, I very much enjoyed the book and it was a unique premise and entertaining.
I enjoyed the storyline but the writing was atrocious. Not only were there numerous grammatical and editing mistakes, the author evidently didn't care enough to write conversations in the style and words used in the early 1900's. It appears little if any time was spent on historical research. The book could have been much better if only the author knew how to write.
Ok first; I pulled this from the Kindle Unlimited library because it looked really good. I had no idea the ride I was in for until I was half way through. This is my first time reading anything like this, hopefully my last. Im giving this 4 stars because it was written so well I couldn't put it down even though I was grossed out. If something like this can keep me that sucked in against my will it totally deserves high marks
By far this is strangest of all the Titanic books. A man who is hurt found his way to a shipping crate. Next thing he is kicking his way out of the crate, only to realize he is aboard a ship. He's sick! The book was entertaining, Walking Dead voyage on the Titanic, before Darryl Dixon was ever heard of. Don't think I will read others in series. But this one kept me amused.
I loved this book! I was intrigued as I wondered how zombies and the titanic would go together but it works really well! I love how the author has written the stories of several characters and interwoven them, the way she managed to make you feel for all of them and how she allowed you to know what happened to each character at the end. Fantastic read, highly recommended and I'm now going to go and read the next book in this series :) well done.
With the Titanic disaster as the location, this story tells a tale of zombies and the need for human survival. The lengths some will go to in order to protect the many rather than a few. I enjoyed it !
I don't think I've enjoyed a period zombie book more than this one. It was original with well thought out characters and plenty of surprises and gore for the zombie lover in us all!
Quick read! A fun zombie story on the famous Titanic!! Good characters, some things didn’t add up like a zombie scratching someone through their shirt so easily but I was still a good quick read.
This book was pretty good! I really enjoyed the concept, but I do think it could've been written and executed a bit better. Overall though, a really good zombie read and interesting take on the Titanic.
The book was very entertaining. I couldn't put the book down. It was a new version of the Titanic. The characters were very true to the plot and kept you wanting to follow to the end.
Fun bit of alternative fiction with a new take on the Titanic disaster. While names have been changed in order to not offend the real life survivors families, it is a fun read.
