Rate this book
If you're one of the millions of American women suffering from PMS, irregular periods, difficulty getting pregnant, low sex drive, postpartum depression, menopausal symptoms, or many other hormonal problems, what you may not realize is that thyroid disease could be the culprit. The Thyroid Hormone Breakthrough is a holistic guide to identifying and overcoming the connection between hormonal problems and the thyroid, which goes undiagnosed in more than 30 million women in the U.S. alone. It will help you identify and diagnose thyroid problems and offer strategies to cope with the effects that thyroid conditions can have on everything from puberty to menopause, including ways to avoid the pitfalls of decreased sex drive. With information on diet and exercise, conventional and alternative therapies, and lifestyle changes that will benefit overall health, plus a risk and symptom checklist and a detailed resource section, The Thyroid Hormone Breakthrough is the most comprehensive thyroid hormone book on the market.

There's some interesting info here, but huge chunks of the book don't pertain to me so it felt like a bit of a waste. If you bought this book as a teen, I could see having it throughout most of your life.

I have been suffering from hormonal imbalances and been diagnosed with hypothyroid disorder, Major Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Exhaustion, and PMDD. I'm being treated for the symptoms of each of these things, but I have always known there is a common denominator, and being sent to several separate specialists, all prescribing medications that are associated with their field, has left me with an enormous amount of pills to swallow every morning... and I don't feel better!

This book was excellent to read. I think the purpose of the book, and the great success someone suffering from Thyroid or other Hormonal disorders or issues, is that many doctors don't complete the tests required to find the root of the problem and often medicate symptoms. It also encourages people to seek out an open minded doctor, who will conduct the proper tests and evaluations to understand your whole body, and not just focus on one test, one symptom, or completely ignore symptoms and rely completely on very basic tests. I think this is a book that helps you understand what questions to ask your doctor, and empowers you to advocate for your best healthcare. If a doctor passes off your questions, or doesn't listen to you, you might need to find a new doctor.
