How do we overcome what we are being overcome by--whether depression, anxiety, overeating, a negative view of ourselves or any other stronghold--in order to experience the freedom that is available to us in Christ? When the pressures of life become overwhelming, we often find ourselves turning to food, shopping, alcohol, television or whatever our "counterfeit" might be in search of the relief, release and peace we are longing for. These choices are not necessarily bad, but the satisfaction is merely temporary. Before we know it, we can find ourselves enslaved by addictive and destructive behaviors, but there is a way out. With grace and warmth, author Robia Scott shows how true healing and lasting satisfaction can be found only as we learn to transfer our dependence from counterfeit comforts onto our one true the Holy Spirit. Drawing from the experience of battling her own counterfeits--primarily her tumultuous relationship with food and obsession with dieting, weight and body image--Robia leads you step by step through the process of transformation. It is through learning how to experience and connect with the Person, the presence and the power of God that we discover who we truly are, and acquire freedom to live the life of purpose that we were created for.
Scott is the kind of person I’d love to meet for lunch. She’s relatable, transparent, and the kind of on-fire Jesus girl we all want to befriend-and be.
This book illustrates how you can be beautifully transformed and healed by sitting in His Presence and reading His Word. This book talks about spiritual warfare, especially meditating on and speaking the Word. In fact, I’ve known I needed to prepare and use my sword more effectively. She’s inspired me to do it! Excellent read!

I was given a copy of Counterfeit Comforts through the publisher and their partnership with Netgalley in exchange for my honest review which is as follows:
This book points out and very aptly so that though people (in general) have no issues with people talking about Budda, about witchcraft or Kabala when you star to talk about Jesus many begin to squirm.
From the time the author was seven, food was a problem even then she could tell the exact number of Calories in a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich. And quickly she began to use her food issues to deal with emotional issues. This is just one of many of what the author calls Counterfeit Comforts.
The author points out too that feelings themselves are not sinful, it's what we do with them that causes the problem.
I give Counterfeit Comforts five out of five stars
To those of you who feel abandoned by God or beat up by life (and you can't live on Earth without being beat up by life), pick up this book and read it, adhere to the principles outlined and use it in your fight to win at life. This woman has been through struggles most of will never faced and has won through properly employing Gods word and methods. You can too if you learn from her and don't give up.
The author pens each chapter with both obvious understanding and victory. She backs every statement with scripture and has many examples how to us the word of God. Truly a great read for anyone.
I wish I could give this book 10 stars. It’s a very powerful read. If you are looking for a way to seeGod move in your life, this is a good book to start with.
Robia’s testimony and personal stories are very inspirational. I was moved to tears several times because I could relate to her story.
Told with courage and grace, Robia pours out her heart and very practical tools for others to overcome this all-too-common problem; running to Food or other addictions to fill up. Robia beautifully shows the way back to the true Comforter of our Souls, Spirits and Bodies.
A great resource for those serious about a deeper and freer walk with God.
