This is the story of Karen Silkwood. It begins with her death. Why does her story begin from, where it should end? Certain people wanted her death to be an ending. Why? What were they afraid of? Karen Silkwood had something to tell us, and she believed that it was important. Why didn't she live to tell us? Will we ever know what really happened? The questions go on and on, but there are no answers. This is a true story. It happened in Oklahoma, USA, where Karen Silkwood lived, worked and died.
‘The Death of Karen Silkwood’ is a book about a woman who was looking for a job. She found a job at the nuclear factory, the pay was much better than a secretary’s pay and it seemed an interesting job. She got the job immediately but when she began to work more often, she became very suspicious. She worked with a lot of radioactive substances like uranium so the safety had to be at his best, but it wasn’t… I like the book because you don’t have to be good in English to understand everything. The book begins with the end and it ends with the beginning, so actually you have to skip the first 2 pages when you begin to read the book and when you’re at the end you have to read the first 2 pages if you want more answers about how Karen died. I think it was a good idea of the author to start the book with the ending because not many books start this way. In my opinion it was a disadvantage of the book that there weren’t given a lot of details, they talk about a brown envelope but they don’t tell you what’s exactly in there except some evidence that the safety in the factory was not good. I would like to recommend it to other readers especially for people who don’t like big books.
I’m going to tell you a little more about my book The Death of Karen Silkwood by Joyce Hannam.
The book is about Karen who is looking for another job she was first a secretary, but then she started looking for something else. Now she works in a chemical plant. Where she soon gets to know many new people including her boss Mr. Bailey, Susan Philips and Drew. Susan and Karen notice that Mr. Bailey doesn't really have his affairs in order. He is often grumpy and quick to attack people. For the first few years, everything goes very well. But in the summer of 1974 everything changes Susan and Karen were about to leave the laboratory when the scanner alarm went off. Soon two men in white suits came and took Susan to the shower and began washing her from head to toe. Since Susan had been through the scanner, the alarm had been going off more and more often. Something was not right. Karen wanted to be on the Union Committee, but she knew that no woman had ever been allowed on it. Fortunately, she got a lot of votes. A month or two later the alarm went off again and this time it was Karen who walked through the scanner, she too had to shower. Now that Karen was on the committee, she kept track of everything that happened in the company. One day Karen had to go to Washington and she told them what was going on in the company. She also told them that pictures were being taken to show that nothing was happening in the company according to the rules. A man from the committee told her to try to get the pictures because that was the only way to get the company closed down. Karen told no one of her secret. Not even Drew. But when she walked into the lab the next morning, the alarm on the scanner went off. Karen had already gotten her hands on the photos; she had put them in a brown envelope and hidden them in a secret safe in the house so no one could find them. In early November, Karen told a reporter how things were going at the company. A few days later, a phone call came that Paula had told Drew and Karen herself to come to Los Alamos to do some tests. In Karen's body there was only a little bit of radioactive waste left, Paula and Drew were healthy. The next day the plane was already going back to Oklahoma where Karen had an appointment with The New York Times that evening. In the morning Karen still had to work she took the brown envelope with her hoping no one would find it. Karen left the factory that afternoon where a colleague of hers asked if she wanted a ride so Karen said no. She never returned home and they never found the brown envelope again. The cause of her car accident was unknown and the police suspected that she had fallen asleep at the wheel. The police also looked for the brown envelope but never found it.
My opinion about the book is that I don't like it that much because the ending of the book actually already reveals the beginning of the book. What I like about the book is that it reads very quickly because there are not so many difficult words used. I also like the characters because you get a clear picture of what the characters are like and what they look like. the book doesn't have that many pages because I hate reading. The only thing I really don't like about the book is that it immediately reveals what is going to happen and that takes the tension of the book away and then I find it very boring to read the book because there is nothing exciting about it.
I would not recommend the book because it is a very boring book because you already know the ending at the beginning of the book and then it is of no use to you. You don't feel like reading the book anymore when you know what's going to happen.
The book "The death of Karen Silkwood" is a story about a carcrash that instantly kills Karen. Afterwards the book continiues with the story of Karen Silkwood. Karen is a woman who works in a factory, in this factory they work with radioactive radiation like uranium. It is a very dangerous job because she has to work with this radiation. Every time she quits work she has to be scanned to see if traces of radiation are still on her hands, if this was the case an alarm would ring, and she would have to be washed against their will. When Karen started working in the factory the alarm would rarely ring, people would even be scared if it rang. But after a while the alarm started to ring more often, and more and more people would be taken away. Karen to was once taken away after the alarm rang, this is the time she started realising that the factory wasn't safe anymore. Karen Also realised that her bosses didn't concern themselfs with the safety of the factory or that of the workers, their only concern was with making money. Karen grew tired of this and she wanted to revolt, she joined the factory's headcommission. She wanted to improve the safety of the factory, so she contacted Pete, who had agreed to help her. She only needed to steal some photo's and negatives out of the factory to prove that the radioactive radiation was dangerous to the workers. She managed this for a couple of months until she had enough evidence to prove her case. The conditions in the factory kept getting worse and worse, when it was Karen's turn to be scanned the alarm rang a few more times. The bosses of the factory convicted her of uranium theft, she herself didn't know anything about this and she was innocent. A couple of days before this happend she had called bete to meet, she put the negatives and the photos in a brown envelope and went on her way in her car, to meet pete at the agreed place. But she never arrived at this place, she crashed her car, and died instantly, the brown envelope was never found.
I wanted to read this book based on my opinion of the title and the summary. I thought the book was going to explain the death of Karen and the investigation. The book disapointed me because it told the story of the factory, and even those pieces weren't very interesting. I wouldn't recomend the book, especially if you exiting books. The book is open ended which doesn't tell you anything more. You are encouraged to seek answeres, answeres the book never give you.
The book The Death of Karen Silkwood started with an accident in which Karen dies, after that there is a flashback how about how it all came about. It's about a woman who is looking for a new job. She is eventually hired for a job in a factory that works with the deadly metal uranium. Every day after she finishes work, her entire body is scanned to make sure the virus hasn't reached her. One day, the virus reached one of Karen's colleagues, making her realize that the security was not very good. That's why she's going to Washington's union commission to change it. But there are a few rules to make things change. One of the managers said after the commission that he needs proof before they can change it. But no one can know. She tries to do that very secretly, but they discovered her. As a result, they emptied her entire house and took everything with them.
So I personally didn't think it was a good book. This is because they start with Karen’s death first and then the flashback. I thought they would explain in the flashback how Karen Silkwood passed away, But that's not the case. Nowhere in the book is it mentioned how she eventually died, which I think is a shame, because that's what made me want to continue reading in the book.
And last but not least I do not recommend the book because, against all expectations, it is not an exciting book as you would expect and because it is confusing to read. There are also a lot of images used and in my opinion too many images are used, this also bothered me while reading.
The death of Karen Silkwood The book goes about a woman who’s changed her job and she went to a factory that works with uranium. But at the and she died in a car crash. She also gets a new friend Drew who also works in the factory. While she is working there she realised that the safety isn’t very well and she worry’s about that, so she went to the union committee in Washington and explains why the safety isn’t good. One of the managers said after the committee that he need proof before they can change it. But nobody may know that. She tries to do that very sneaky, but they got her and they went into her house and took everything. They never told why she died in that car.
It’s good that there are a lot of pictures in the book and the text is very easy. i don’t like it that they don’t tell us why she died. And they could go maybe a little bit more in detail. I would recommend it to other people because it is very easy and there are a lot of pictures. It’s also good that it’s not to long. So I would say just read it!
The Death of Karen Silkwood is a story about a 28 years old woman that starts a new job at a nuclear factory. She meets new friends and also her new boyfriend. In the beginning does everybody likes her but from the moment that she wants to become part of the Union committee everything changes. At first I tought it wasn't gonna be a good book because I thought it had a really boring cover and because I don't read that much I Always pic a book by his cover. So I wasn't really in the mood to start and read it, but I had to because I had to do it for school. Once I started reading I began to like it immedietly. You directly fall into the story and thats the thing I like the most when I read a book. It also has a good writing style. I didn't like the fact that the book doesn't gives you an answer to how the car crash happend and I also didn't liked the pictures in the book because they showed the characters in the book. In a book I find it important that u can use ur fantasy and those pictures maked my personal image of the characters fade away. I really recommend other people to read this book, because I really liked it and I am not a person that likes a lot of books :)
i have read the book “The Death of Karen Silkwood” written by Joyce Hannam, the book has been published by Oxford bookworms’.
This book describes how the death of Karen Silkwood was caused. The book started with an accident in which Karen dies, after that there is a flashback how it's all about it.
Her story : Karen have a new job, she works in a nuclear factory. She’s compelety engaged on her new work. Every time she goes to work, she must be totally clean from radioactive things. They speak about a brown envelope. This brown envelope is a strange twist in the story. Karen had the brown envelope with her everyday, but after the accident nobody ever found the envelope. I found the book really good and that’s because it’s about the death. This item interested me a lot. I have dyslexie, so reading is not my favorite thing to do, but this book reads very smoothly. It’s a easy font and the pictures makes it funnier to read, and easier if you don’t understand. I would recommend the book very sure because you learn new words on a funny way. But it’s not a funny subject. This is very weird to say because I hate reading and i do it never.
‘The Death of Karen Silkwood’, a book about a young woman who was tired of her old job as secretary and who took a new job in a nuclear factory in Oklahoma. the pay was much better and the work was more interesting. She had to work with radioactive substances so there had to be enough safety, but was there? She went to the union committee in Washington an explained why the safety wasn’t good. Of course the committee wanted to see proof before they would change anything. She had to find some evidence but nobody was allowed to know about it.
The book started with her death. You don’t get a lot information of the cause of her death. The only things you know is that everyone thinks it was an accident. Also that she had a brown envelope with her in the car. But they don’t tell you where the envelope went and if the car crash was really an accident.
I didn’t really like the book as I don’t like reading at all. It’s something that I only do when I have to. The weird thing is that I don’t like to read but I love to write. It doesn’t mean that because I didn’t like the book that it is a bad book or something.
I would recommend this book to people but only if they like to read. The book is well written and it had a nice story but I think only book lovers will appreciate it as it should be appreciated.
3, Secretary Radioactive Vote Boyfriend Envelope Accident Death
4a, Karen worked as a secretary. But she was tired of a secretary's life. She found a job at the unclear factory. She decided to work this place. However, this work place used fuel road and uranium which including much radioactivity. Therefore, Karen thought that it is dangerous for employees. She decided to show this dangerous situation to the world. She started to compile evidence photographs and drove a car to carry evidence photographs to the New York Times. But she died because she had an accident while she drove. But, nobody ever found the evidence photographs.
4b, I felt Karen really wanted to help a lot of employees from radioactivity. I thought that this feeling is important to help a lot of people. So I also have to follow a good example.
5, This story was unusual because the end of story became first page. Therefore, I enjoyed to know that why Karen died through reading this book.

However, I thought this story was interesting, and I could enjoy it.
Poor Karen. She didn't deserve to die like that, all she wanted was to do good, to improve the safety at the nuclear factory. I hope they'll find out who killed her.
Simply it wasn't a bad story nor good. The writing style Was very simple and for a while I thought this was a book for children in the first place. I've always loved the stories of people who got murdered when they know too much or created something against what helps countries economically or celebrities, but in the case here I think that the way of execution didn't keep me hyped or enjoyed. I still believe I accidently read a book for kids :p
It is a biography that can read comfortably. Karen Silkwood got a car accident even she had a good driving skills. Nobody saw the accident, anyone does not know about what has really happened. There are some suspicions did this nuclear factory's managers that Karen's worked for it. But it is not clear enough. Read and enjoy it!

“The Death of Karen Silkwood” is a mystery story written by Joyce Hannam. In this story first Karen died in a road side crash car. But, she did not cause the traffic accident and she did not plan suicide. This story is about Karen’s life to see and the truth of her death.
This story’s main person is Karen Silkwood. Her occupation is nurse. She is very smart and kind. But, she has a spirit disease. She is a good character because she seems perfect but she holds darkness in her heart. I think this story is a subtle story. This review has three reasons.
First, this story is very monotonous. I do not recommend this book to someone who is in early development of reading. Second, this story starts at the end. This point is also interpreted as the virtue, but I think there are a lot of people who dislike it, too. I do not think it is good. Third, Karen’s character. She is my favorite character but she is very strong character. In the beginning, she is ordinary, but she went wrong gradually. Her character could be disliked by many people.
I can’t suggest this book to everyone, but a person who likes to suggest the state going wrong gradually would like this book.

Yes, it's real story that was happened in 1970's. Nobody can know the end of this story and truth. Nobody knows it was an accident or an incident. This is real, there ain't no truth and end. So we can't know but we can guess from the story. However, it said this thing was regarded as an accident. I've no idea about that, but there were obviously unnatural things. 5, It seems very old story, but we should know this incident. I though of the dark side of the society and government. Also, this book made me think of nuclear. As you know, the big earthquake was happened in 2011. From them on, Japanese often care of nuclear I think. I wish Japanese keep thinking of it. We shouldn't forget it.
