I'd probably call this "fine." It wasn't amazing and wasn't bad. I tended to appreciate more of Ludlow's commentary than some of the others and would probably be inclined to find his commentary to read alone rather than with the others that were integrated here. Pretty sure that some of my seminary teachers in high school used one or more of the commentaries quoted here as I have some of the quotes on little slips I glued in to the scriptures I was using at school. :)

I liked the overall layout of the Book of Mormon text with commentary next to the pertinent passages. I also really like the cover art from Walter Rane.

I was annoyed that some of the commentary repeated. There was also some commentary that didn't have a specific source listed, which made me wonder who had given that commentary. Some of the pictures of Mesoamerican artwork and ruins was interesting but not terribly pertinent.

So yeah, it was fine. It will probably go on our bookshelf for future reference, but I don't see us utilizing it in 3 years when BoM rolls around again for Come, Follow Me curriculum. Maybe the next cycle?

Rating: PG/PG-13 due to some of the content of the BoM (murders, wars, etc). The commentary is benign.

Great commentary to help explain the Book of Mormon. I HATE the way it is laid out...lots of dangling paragraphs, etc. But the concept is great and we enjoyed reading it every night as a family.

Reading the Book of Mormon was the best. The commentary was lacking. I wish there was more to the commentary. I have read other things by Ludlow, but this was fair at best.
