Having saved humanity from an invading alien armada, Ian Lotus finds himself not rewarded but once again on the run - struggling to stay one step ahead of a galactic government intent on his capture.
However, you don't live as long as Lotus has - well beyond the lifespan of a normal human being - without picking up a trick or two, and Lotus is savvier than most. Catching him won't be easy. Still, his pursuers have a powerful incentive: their quarry is in possession of secrets that could reshape mankind's destiny - in particular, the fact that he's the only person capable of controlling the protective halo of weaponry known as the Chronos Ring, which is humanity's first and last line of defense against its enemies throughout the cosmos.
But human agents aren't all Lotus has to worry about. Also hot on his heels is an army of genetically-engineered horrors controlled by an exiled despot from an alternate dimension, who sees Lotus - and in particular, the Ring - as the pathway for both a return to power and the subjugation of humanity. It's up to Lotus to find a way to stop this menace, before the entire human race is enslaved.
Earl E. is the cheap, lazy, no-good alter ego of an otherwise honest and hard-working family man. Fancying himself a writer, Earl E. has decided to punish the world by allowing the disturbing thoughts and images from the dark recesses of his mind to see the light of day via the written word, which he publishes as fiction. Heaven help us!
How did I miss this one? I listened to the book, thoroughly enjoyed it, and then forgot to leave the rating :/
This may not come as a surprise but I'm again rating the book 5* and claiming it's well deserved xD
It's just too much fun. Like a round two of adventures of your favorite characters.
For people who haven't read EON this book might not be as good if read out of order. Not sure why Earl Hardman cut most of the ties with first part, as if he tried to make it a standalone piece, but it turned out good. Even more world building and new characters!
Ian Lotus got in trouble again. Big surprise, right? :-)
Well, this time he pissed off big boys right from the start. And book becomes a running away from the trouble in search of answers which get him into new problems. Fun times :)
Characters are, again, deep and interesting. And this time we finally get to see an AI, too. It's an interesting take on an artificial intelligence that gets stripped of its limitations - a.k.a given free will.
When it's all so SciFi, it's hard not to get surprised in the end. It's a good ride.
Michael Naramore delivered again, as expected. I did listen on 1.3x speed, so I finished the book in 4.5 hours instead of 6. But the mandatory first chapter on 1.0x was also fully enjoyable.
This book has been provided to me free of charge by the author, in exchange for an honest review.
Infinity (Chronos Ring #2) by Earl E. Hardman (Author), Mikael Naramore (Narrator)
Verdict: Quick and fun, but read book #1 first. Overall: Performance: Story:
Is this the first in the series I've read/listened to, but it was awesome! Really liked getting to know Ian and the others involved. Action, intensity, a great story all around, and really loved the narration as well. I'm now going to go back and listen to the first one in the series, EON! Excellent! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
What a beautiful story, truly out of nowhere the Chronos Ring series appeared and amazed me. The author Earl E. Hardman wrote both books beautifully and left an opening for a continuation which I really hope will come because I want more of this excellent story ! Perfect narration by Mikael Naramore . I got nothing bad to say here.
I full heartedly recommend this book to all.
I know that I reviewed this book honestly even so that I got it for free.
Infinity is the second book in the Chronos Ring series. You can read this book as a standalone. Though the storyline will make more sense if you have read the first book. There is violence. I enjoy this series with its multiple planets and enemies. In this book our main character learns more about his family and the universe. I listened to the Audible version. The author spoke clearly and was easy to understand.
( Format : Audiobook ) here was no way this was going to end well"
Ian Lotus may be very human but he was certainly no ordinary man. For a start, no one knew how long he'd been alive - was it mere centuries, or even longer? - during which time he'd amassed an unknowable fortune and had time to develop skills far beyond that of the shorter lived person. He'd built the Chromosome Ring, the defensive shield surrounding the inhabited planets and to which only he had the key. And recently he had been recognised as the son of a near godlike alien.
But he was created by men in authority over the League of Planets and now also hated by his newly discovered younger half brother. Life was about to become difficult for Ian, following his escape from the holding planet on which he and his protector (gift from dad) on which they had been imprisoned.
This is a fun science fictional romp, well narrated by Mikael Naramore whose reading is pace perfect, well modulated and read with understanding. His voicings of all the characters is good, too, clearly differentiating them with suitable tones. Although the second in the series, it is possible to fully enjoy this tale without any knowledge of book one as all that is needed is given here. Not a serious book, raising no thought provoking issues, but it is a jolly good frolic with fights, near indestructible Cyrilllian robots, interplanetary travel (of the beam-me-up-Scottie kind), ambush and intrigue, betrayal and help from an unexpected course. Oh, and lots more. Like I said, good fun.
My thanks to the rights holder for gifting me a complimentary copy of Infinity, via Audiobook Boom. This brief review is equally freely given. Thank you.
Our hero is a valuable commodity, both for his knowledge and his inheritance. That also makes him a target.
This is the second book in an action adventure SF story and the adventure continues. The story continues to be well written with an enjoyable plot full of twists and turns that keep things moving. The story reads like a classic pulp or action adventure story, which means that occasionally the action takes precedence over logic, but then I don't have a problem with that. The characters are also well developed and have a nice sense of humor to them, particularly our hero. This is a fast paced story with non-stop action from start to finish. Overall, it was a highly enjoyable experience and I look forward to listing to the next book.
As an audio book review, I should also point out that the narration was excellent. Well paced, clearly enunciated and fun.
Highly recommended.
I received an ARC from the author for review purposes.
Before you read this one, please note it is the second book of a series: you need to read the book one, EON, first or this characters and situations won’t make much sense to you.
This is a fairly quick read that has a bit of science fiction (due to the space ships) and fantasy (the main character has special powers) that proved entertaining. The author picks up where he left off with book one, but note it isn’t too serious of a read as you will call foul on a couple of situations and read it rather quickly. It was entertaining, however, but it does end on a “to be continued” note but there is not sequel as I type this review nine months after publication. I picked this up for free using my borrow under the Kindle Unlimited program vs. its normal price of $2.99.
I thought the beginning was rather slow, with unnecessary dialog. I thought it was going to set the tone for the whole book, but the story ended up being very interesting. The few things I disliked about it were how the narrative arc seemed to completely change directions without ever wrapping back around, to do with the main characters family and we never return to see them by the end. Otherwise, the story was fun, and I rather enjoyed the AI communicating with him, as well as the roundabout ways he was able to figure things out with the AI, like exactly which places the bad guys aren't, that was fun and clever.
Full disclosure: I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Infinity is a pretty good sci-fi novel. It definitely adds to the Chronos Ring series, and makes Ian Lotus into a little bit less of a Mary Sue than he was in the first book although it seems to replace that aspect with Deus Ex Machina, so just be aware. A nice short read with space ships, inter-dimensional travel, and a fun AI.
Naramore does a good job narrating, voices are consistent and he does not have any voices that I find annoying.
I would recommend this book, it was a nice, fun, short read.
Ian Lotus didn't get rewarded last time for saving the human race and now finds he has to run for his life. And its not just one species that is after him, both have their own reasons which make him worthy of capture (or death perhaps).
This was a great part 2 following in the same story-line as the first, the author did a good job keepign the same tone as the first book and not progressing too far from where the first one left off.
And again The Narrator did a great job, his voice changing with each character, looking forward to checking out other books he has read out.

Additional dimensions of our favorite main character are exposed. I like the fast pace and varied action. I also like the the cleverness shown by the main character. The book was a little short, but the author put a lot into the pages. Hopefully the next one will be a little longer.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. In book 2 Lofus is trying not to get caught by the galactic government. He is the only 1 that has the secret to the chronos ring that protects the humans from the bad guys. He also has another scary race after him and the ring. Lofus has his hands full, what will happen? Read and find out.
Really like these stories, space westerns are fun from time to time and this set has taken my mind to new places and introduced new peoples enough to make me want more. That's the most I can ask for when I just want escapism.
I enjoyed the first book pretty well but this one seemed kind of tedious. The plot wasn’t that great, the action wasn’t that thrilling, and our hero keeps getting knocked out. I’ll have to think on whether to continue the series.
I really liked the computer part of this book. It made me chuckle a few times. This is a fun story, it's out of my normal genre, but I still find the story line pretty good. I am unawares of how many books are in this series, but I will probably listen to them all.
It's good to see the return of Ian as he soon finds out being long lived isn't always a good thing. Meeting family also turns into a greater problem as he soon finds that a lot more people than he thought need his help. An engaging story and a great narration as always
Likeable characters plenty of action and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing, short enough to read in a single afternoon, will read the next one.
