Alice has always hated her appearance. So it's a very strange feeling when, looking in a mirror one day, she sees a more beautiful version of herself staring back. Even more surprising, the image begins speaking. Demanding to be called Alicia, the young woman in the mirror helps Alice get a sophisticated makeover. And a cute guy at school begains to take notice of her. But what does Alicia want in return? It isn't very pretty and Alice is soon fighting for her very life.
I was going to buy this book off of EBay but after searching for it I found it at a library. I thought that the book would be good and scary boy was I wrong! I couldn't get passes chaper 6. The characters were confusing and at times the story drifted off to somewhere that had nothing to do with the topic. I read a similar book called "The Accident" by Diane Hoh about a girl who switch places with a lonely girl who died and wants to see how it feels to live until her 16th birthday. This book didn't even come close to that! Maybe the author tried to copy The Accident but failed at it.
La edad no me permite darle una mayor clasificación. Quizás en mi preadolescencia la hubiese disfrutado mucho más. Sin embargo, no deja de ser una premisa interesante.
There is not much I liked about this book. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because at least I had a visceral reaction to it. Plus I thought the premise was interesting, other than that I will not be taking the journey of reading this ever again. 2 out of Tehn would not recommend.
I don't know if I still own this book, but the cover freaked me out so badly that I had to put a sticker over the disturbing half of her face. Seriously makes you feel like something evil is watching you, lol.
This was an interesting twist to a book and concept although it is somewhat like a morality tale/urban legend combined with young adult fiction.
I enjoyed Larry Weinberg's ability to get into the place of opening up a high school world to a girl who is all about her appearance. She doesn't know that within her mirror is a world of Unformed creatures that struggle to win the right to appear as one's double and a particular wily Unform has made plans all of her own on the other side of the mirror.
The reading was simple and the plot was easy to follow. The story in its telling reminded me of the Nick series "Are You Afraid of the Dark" although it wasn't truly frightening. Instead it kept you turning pages to see what may happen next and whether friendship would win in the end.
The only main complaint about the book that I had was that the ending could have been just a bit more further on before it closed out but all in all a good read. Some parents may want to watch their kids reading it since the book can be suggestive in a few areas while I know that will be rich jumping ground for the complaints of some.
I loved this book, it was so real-like. The main character was so like me (minus a few things) but i'm always catching myself looking in the mirror. Finding all the flaws, never seeing the good qualitites. I've grown out of it, like this character hopefully has after her lesson with unformed beings. I don't think she'll ever look at her self again the poor thing. A perfect book for those just getting into the horror genre, it's just the right amount of creepy with plenty of action to keep you hooked.
