loved the photography in this one. My preschooler was looking for a good nonfiction fall book and this one did a great job guiding us through the season.
I've read quite a few picture books with the title Fall or Autumn these past few weeks. This is the only one that I really liked. The photography could tell the story without any assistance from words; Hirschi explains the season clearly and simply without talking down to the reader; he introduces topics that could be great springboards for further conversation and study; and he leaves any political agenda that he may have out of the book. I get so tired of wading thorough the political agendas in children's nature books, and Hirschi's book is a refreshing and welcome change. He simply teaches children about the beauties and miracles of nature without trying to sway them one way or another. That alone is worth 5 stars.
Fall is a photographic look at autumn. The strongest part of the book are the wonderful animal and landscape photos taken in the American West. For ages 4 to 7 and independent readers.
