Kudo's to the 8 year old who decides to branch out and write a short story. Overall the story was good, and published I'm sure by the doting parents. However, there's more to it than that. This book really needs an editor, even the 8-year olds teacher or high school English teacher would be sufficient. The erroneous and blatant errors pull the reader from the story.
That said, both MY 8 year old, and 6 year old enjoyed it.
What a beautiful, imaginative story! A magical land filled with cool places like Stargazer's Cove and Sunset Village located in the Crystal Kingdom. Don't let Emma's age fool you, this book is well written and enchanting. Let a child in your life fall in love with The Fairies of Waterfall Island.
Both of my daughters loved when I read a couple chapters at bedtime each night. My oldest (5) especially enjoyed the elements (fairies, magic, crystals, etc). It’s very cute, and as an editor, I commend the young author’s skills and hope to see more from her in the future. Maybe mermaids next?
This fair tale story is a charming delight that needs to be read by all ages; I enjoyed sharing this with my family because, not only is it written well wand is a great story, the author is only 8 years old! For kids this also serves as an inspiration because, they can relate to the book as it was written by someone who is the same age. As it states in the bio, Emma Sumners is the youngest author to write a fair tale book. I definitely hope this becomes a series of books kids can enjoy over and over again. If you have young kids who love reading and would enjoy a great tale that reminds me of Harry Potter vs. Indiana Jones, then you definitely want to pick this book up. And, because the cover is so attractive, I'd recommend getting the paperback instead of just the downloaded version.
I purchased this book for my 10-year old daughter. This is her review: This Book had a very good layout. It was full of suspense and you just have to read more. Emma does a GREAT job describing and writing the book. I could see it in my head like it was a movie!
Recommendations: I would recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure. Emma has inspired me to keep writing!
I think for the next book, the fairies should get stuck in the human world and have to find their way back to Waterfall Island. Nice job Emma!
This book is remarkably complex for a child author. Great character development. Fairies, trolls, kids, wolves, King and Queen, and so much detail. I loved how the characters faced challenges and tested their bravery. It would take a child a couple of hours to read this. I read it in under an hour. Buy this book for all the 8 year old girls in your life.
Emma has written a book filled with a problem, a solution and a happy ending. Great job for such a young author. I can't wait to read other books in the series.
When I heard that this author was only 8 years old when she wrote this, I didn't think it would be much of a story. Was I wrong!!! This a delightful magical tale about fairies, humans and a lost Crystal. There are of course heroes and a villain. It's a story of bravery and courage. This book will appeal to early and middle grade readers. It's extremely well written. I've read many an adult book that isn't written this well. Well done Emma. This is one author to watch. Put her on your list.
