In this friendship to lovers romance Eugenia and Graham make an unforgettable duo. The story is a comical story of an unfortunate lady who has a penchant for getting into trouble. The story is quite entertaining. I have never read this authors work before but will look forward to more in the future. I received this book for free from the publisher via Netgalley.. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
As you all know if you have been following my account on Instagram I’ve seriously fallen back into my love of a good romance novel. With that in mind I decided to peruse @netgalley and see what they might have on offer, and I’m so glad I did.
Even though I hadn’t read the other books in Elizabeth Johns Gentlemen of Knights series it in no way distracted me from the overall storyline or took away from how I enjoyed how the characters inter played with each other.
In this book we follow the youngest of the five siblings, Eugenia Knight and her quest to find a suitable husband now her brothers and recently her best friend are all married. She feels a little alone and this needs to change. She’s also described as wild and a bit of a hoydon which means getting a suitable husband might be a challenge. During this we are introduced to Graham Tinsley who has grown up with the Knight Family as a close friend. He’s in town keeping a brotherly eye over Genie while her family are occupied elsewhere.
What transpires is then a lovingly set out romance with twists and turns, scandal and lots of Regency ballroom action which I loved. At times it felt like reading the plot of an Austen novel. The extra characters are half the joy of Austen and that’s what I found here. The brothers and their wives, the wallflowers, the gossips and family relationships were lovely to see play out. I especially liked the relationship between Graham and his father and wish there was a bit more exploration of this.
That being said the main reason we’re here is for the romance and that did not disappoint. Genie and Graham’s adventures together kept me wanting more. I loved the slow way it played out. So often these days you read a book, even regency romances, and within 50 pages the leads are in bed together. What we had here was a slow burn of a romance where two friends are forced to realise that what they feel is much more. It made the pay off at the end all the more satisfying.
At first I did find it a little hard to get into, but once I was a few chapters in I was hooked and loved it. Definitely recommended 😍
This story grabs you from the very beginning, and except for a small lag at around 22-25% it moved at a nice pace. The characters are very believable and you can feel their affection for each other; rather than being told about it. The "villians" are set up pretty early on but there are a few curve balls thrown in with certain people not acting how you would think they would. But the author covers this by being just as upset with how they are handling it. So this is a conscious choice that later a reason is given.
Lady Eugenia Knight being raised with 5 brothers and no sisters has grown up to be a hoyden. She can't remember rules in society and constantly makes blunders. The time has come for her to find a husband before one of these blunders ruins her. She has several beaus but will any of them make her happy? Can she marry someone and just have a sedate life?
Graham Tinsley helped raise Lady Eugenia and as such their behavior is more brother/sister like. They are always seen together and even some of society's rules that they bend is not looked at odd due to their long standing familiar relationship. But as they both look for a match will they be able to see what is blossoming between them or let others dictate their future?
Lady Eugenia Knight was a very talented debutante, however her talents led her towards the outspoken end of the spectrum which always seemed to bore her dance partners or make them want to explode because they didn’t care for her forthrightness. Her brothers were being married and just when she knew she was going to be forced into a marriage of a sham a friend comes riding into save her so he thinks. Graham Tinsley, a friend of the family knows he is ready to make the leap into marriage, but only with Eugenia. Now, the issue is to convince her that he wants to marry her and help her. Does he realize he is in love yet? Does she know she is in love yet?
Even though this book has a predictability it still has enough of a storyline that keeps you wanting to know more about the characters and how it will end up for sure with them.
I love to have enough of lighthearted reads in my library that when we are on day trips or I just want a switch from heavy dramas or I just need a quick pick me upper!
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
I have enjoyed this series so much and this book was no exception. Eugenia was the perfect unsure debutante, She had such a vulnerability that you couldn't help but just feel for what she was going through and I kept wanting to reach out to her. Having no female figure in her life was very apparent in her inability to trust herself or her decisions. Graham has the patience of a saint, and part of me was surprised that he would put up with her childish antics for so long. But he was sweet and patient with her, even when he wasn't. I actually really enjoyed the storyline of trying to force a marriage onto both Graham and Eugenia. Though it was a little frustrating for Eugenia to come around to Grahams feelings for her. If I had one disappointment with this book, would be the lack of Epilogue at the end, especially since this is the last in this series. I always enjoy a little follow up a while down the road. Definitely a good read, I highly recommend it and will definitely put it on my to buy list.
I received a copy of this from Netgalley for my honest opinion.
Lady Eugenia finally gets her story! The youngest of five, with four being brothers, she has learned how to make herself heard. Graham may as well have been her fifth brother, but now that they are grown, he sees her as so much more than the girl she used to be. He knows what he is getting into, at least he thinks he does. I love friends to lovers, and this is a great example of why this trope can be so fun. I enjoyed the time it took to build as Eugenia needed to be sure she was loved for who she really was and not married out of convenience, even if for her own protection. A delightful ending to a great series. I received a copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are my own, freely given.
Genie and Graham have know each other for all their lives, more like brother and sister than neighbors. When Graham goes away for 6 years he returns to find Genie fully grown and to his horror he senses a spark of attraction upon seeing her again. Graham is determined to be her protector, despite Genies penchant for absolute chaos where ever she goes. He comes to the rescue unfailingly, much to her chagrin.
This is a really sweet book and well written. Now don't get me wrong, I like a clean sweet book as well as a steamy one, but this one seemed to be missing the transition from sibling love to passion. Overall, this is a really good sweet book.
Another addition to the Knight Family series. Lady Eugenia is the only daughter of a duke and the youngest of 5. When she makes her debut, childhood friend, Graham, is tasked with looking out for her as she navigates the season. Her brothers being busy with their own families. She leads Graham a merry chase with her hijinks and hoyden tendencies. I enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed the previous books in the series. Thank you Elizabeth Johns, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
This is my first book by this author. I had no trouble following the story even if it is the fifth book in the series.
It is a clean romance, nothing more then a kiss, but the tension is there. I enjoyed the characters a lot. I liked the fact that Eugenia was once of a kind, not really fitting in and how Graham loved her just as she was. There is a lot of great interaction, funny situaties and wonderful banter.
To me, it seemed mostly like a long, too drawn out story of "does he" "does she" "do I' friends to lovers. It just went on and on and could have and I feel should have wrapped up long before it did. It also seemed to me that this was the last book in a series about four brothers and a sister, but I don't find previous books by this author in Amazon Kindle, so that must be my mistake. I skimmed a lot to get to the end. Can't recommend. #NetGalley #ShiningKnight
This book is great to go through in class and then for students to read ontheir own. Consists of what a desert is , the plants and animals within them, and different deserts around the world. Great for open discussion, schema, projects, and reports.
