I ordered this on the recommendation of a local acquaintance, I was not disappointed!
It is well organized, beautifully illustrated, and informative. I especially love how each creature highlighted - whether it be a shellfish, a bird, or a plant - receives a full page of information that includes several pictures in various states. This is invaluable, for example, with birds that have different coloring for gender or season.
I have already used this handy reference to identify a bird I saw at the beach (Western Willet) and to learn more about birds that frequent my yard (White Ibis).
Helpful sections in this book include (among many other amazing sections): - Beach Features - Fish - Birds - Land Mammals - Marine Mammals - Dune Plants - Marine Plants
Highly recommend this to anyone looking to learn more about the world around them in the beautiful Sunshine State.
Terrific book that is similar to the Witherington's other book about seashells, but it also includes beach side creatures, plants, and helped us identify things like the sooty sea hare that had climbed out on shore but swam away not long after. Its a helpful book for knowing more about Florida's environment.
Our favorite beach guide ever! The full-color photos help you to quickly identify shells, birds, marine life, plants, natural features in the landscape, and various flotsam and jetson. The details teach you everything from how red tides are formed to why that ball of aluminum foil washed ashore bringing Florida's beaches to life in a whole new way. A must-read you'll want to add to your home library.

I thought this book was super insightful! I will forever keep it as reference and it makes visiting the beach a lot more exciting. I would love to go out and document what I see and then reference it with this book. I hope to use it to educate my future children on the living beaches of Florida too.
