Sarazen Saga #2

Sarazen's Vengeance

Rate this book
Book 1.1 of the Sarazen Saga
This book is part of a SERIES. It could be read alone and enjoyed as is. Suggested to be read following Book 1, Sarazen's Claim.
There is a happy ending, but as this is part of a SERIES, the ever after part comes later. Not a cliffhanger so much as a continuation.

Having gone from invisible engineering personnel, to one of the few remaining human survivors, Andi Starsong is struggling to acclimate to her new situation. She's been identified as a potential mate by one of the hulking Sarazen warriors, and if that wasn't terrifying enough, he's come to claim her.

Ohlen's little mate is terrified of him. Despite having done everything he can think of to put her at ease, Andi shies from him each time he so much as glances his way. He can no longer deny the roaring of his beast, the instinct that tells him she is in danger. He has no choice. He must claim her.

When the warship reaches Sarazen territory, Ohlen and Andi must navigate their blossoming bond and the danger of the treachery brewing within the pride. Treachery that could destroy more than just their bond.

It is tough to read a novella about a couple that got a lot of face time in the first book. There was a lot of repetition. Yes we now get their POVs but no much new came from them. Once their story deviated from the main couple's it got better.

That being said, the hero is still swoon worthy in how he treated Andi. So caring and sweet. And I was so proud of how Andi handled this experience. Her history was horrible!

Plus we get more info on the overarching storyline so it was worth the time to read. I think the other novellas will be less repetitive since those couples had more time away from the main couple in the first book.

I actually think I enjoyed this one more this time around. It's more like 4.5 Stars for me this time. Ohlen is absolutely perfect. He does and says the most perfect things. Ms Wroth seems to write some really awesome and well, perfect heroes.

Originally read September 2016

When we were first introduced to Andi and Ohlen in book 1, I knew right away I couldn't wait to read their story and it was just as I hoped.

Andi has been abused since she was 16. She was overlooked and never protected so the abuse continued. Many times she contemplated killing herself to end her torment. On that one faithful day, where she experienced a new horror, she also met her destiny...Ohlen. He pulled her up and saved her...saved her from a life of hell but also saved her from herself.

Ohlen was so damn perfect I can't even begin to do him justice. He was everything Andi needed and then some. His first mission: take out what had hurt her and I loved it in every gory detail.
"You will never be alone or unprotected. I will always be there to rend anyone or anything who poses threat to you, into pieces. My intent is for you to feel safe. No matter who you are with or where you are. Never feel helpless or weak. Never afraid. Not ever again.”

He was there to help her to get rid of her fear and become the strong person he knew she was.
“When I look at you, I am not disappointed by the god’s choice for me. You are brave. Stronger than I believe you give yourself credit for. A survivor. You are… you are everything. All that you are now belongs to me. As all that I am now belongs to you.”

Did I mention he was perfect?

Based solely on Ohlen, this would have been a 5 star read for me. The few complaints I had were, in the beginning, things were repeated from the first book. Not that big of a deal, but in a short novella, it took away from their story. I also felt things were a little rushed towards the end, trying to throw everything regarding the underlying mystery in quickly.

But overall, it was still a great addition to the series and I will be anxiously awaiting what comes next. I love sci-fi romances and Isabel Wroth has definitely gone on my favorite authors list.

The hero of this book is such a sweet, sweet guy! I wanted to hug him for how he treated the heroine!

A wonderfully tender, sweet, romantic and at the same time hot love story with a touch of danger!
It was well worth reading!

You will want to read this series in order. This did recap the beginning of this couple's story along with adding new material. While I still enjoyed this book and want to read more, this one felt more like a filler. It does reveal a twist to the plot of the overall series that I admit I wasn't a fan of. We just get a small taste of it though and I still want to read the rest of the series to see where the author steers the plot. I'm hoping we get new couples and not one of the four couples from the first book. I felt like I already got their story and don't need more for them.

2.5 rounded to 3 stars. Too repetitive for my tastes. Second half was okay.

3.5* and spoilers ahead

This one went back a little bit to when the Sarazen warriors first discovered the humans. Some of the stuff was already covered I book 1 but this time we get the h/H pov. Andi was timid and cried a lot but considering she'd been raped by the asshole that Ohlen thankfully dismembered I couldn't blame her. She sustained years of abuse with no one to turn too on her former ship. Seeing her turn into a badass man eater(literally 😂) was one of the highlights of this book for me. She deserved the mate that she got. Ohlen was a complete and utter sweetheart! Absolutely devoted to his one and so tender and kind to her my cold heart melted for them.
The latter half started from where the previous book took us with them going to the warriors world and even more traitors abound.

I enjoyed this one

H wasn't a virgin but it'd been years since he'd been with a woman
h was raped from a teen,by a POS asshole who was ripped to pieces (yay)
Eating of assholes does literally occur here

Each of these guys calling their h their "one" just gives me heart eyes 😍

If you read and liked the first book in this series (which I did), you should enjoy this one.

It tells the events of that book with a movement forward in the series plot arc from another couples point of view.

The writing isn't lazy as you see the overlapping scenes in a new way.

The hero is beyond perfect and heroine is pretty shatter by an abused and tortured past but she heals in the book. I do enjoy that there are no lack of communication issues in the book and when something occurs to change how they communicate they work through it.

It is a sweet tale. There are some issues with the limited complexity of the hero and also of the heroines trauma but I enjoyed the book overall even if I felt it could have been more interesting in how it retold the events of the overlapping time periods.

I liked this one more than the 1st one. I loved the H/h. They were awesome together. You could feel their emotional connection.

There was repetition of a few scenes from the 1st book & this included exact dialogue.. The author could of replaced those scenes w/ new scenes between the MC.

The story starts where book 1 also started but is told in 3rd ppov focusing on the H/h. I loved them so going back & watching their courtship unfold was awesome. You do get a lot of new scenes & the book does push the overall arc along.

The writing was engaging. Formatting was good.

I totally loved Ohlen. I loved how protective, gentle, and caring he was with Andi.

I'm not so sure how I feel about Andi. I felt for her and I really liked how she grew more confident as she learned to put her trust in Ohlen and in herself more and more. She's really sweet. But as a matter of personal taste, I just gravitate to heroines who are more spunky and snarky.

On to the next one! Yay!

Don't read this until you've read Sarazens

Positives:
Good writing, loving relationships, interesting plotlines.

Personal relationship preference:
I like Clary from the first book better than Andi, as Andi is naturally much more submissive, provided she is able to trust her partner. I find Clary more interesting because she initiates her own choices, while Andi tends to react, whether that's once Ohlen directs her to do something or once he makes it clear he's allowing her to make the choice.

The dynamic between Clary and Tarek is more a partnership of equals, while Ohlen and Andi have more of a traditional male/female pattern, with Ohlen clearly dominant. While Ohlen obviously loves, respects and (when he feels appropriate) consults Andi , he also wants and expects her to take less initiative. Wroth makes this differing dynamic clear in a few of Ohlen's inner dialogues when Ohlen rejoices that Andi is much less independent than Clary, and he's glad that Andi will be happy to lean on him. It works for the two of them, so it's all good, but it's just not what I find more rewarding myself.

I'm also concerned that the Sarazen partners in the mated pairs may all start blending together in the reader's mind. I think this concern arises because (with a few variables) the Sarazens have all the same fears and desires surrounding their mates. They're driven to protect, honor and cherish their mates, which makes for very similar dialogues, both those internal to the Sarazen male and when he's speaking to his human mate.

The only real differences in the pairings occur around the human mate's backstory. Andi's life on board the colony ship was very different from Clary's, and those differences make them more individual as characters and affect the way their mates treat them.

Clary and Andi are the two least similar women, though, so in any future stories, Wroth will need to find ways to make it clear that the remaining women and their mates are distinct individuals. Right now, none of the other women are very memorable to me except Gwen, and that's mostly because she's always the crankiest one.

As a counterbalance to all that's similar in the stories so far, I'd really like to hear about the Sarazen females and what they're like, as well as more of the Sarazen female/human male mate pairs and how they're adjusting to one another. I feel strongly that the series needs more character diversity, or else the books may start to seem like variations on one all-too-basic theme.

Another preference:
I would rather read work that can stand on its own, and this story can't, so that diminishes my rating. By that I mean that this book wouldn't make much sense unless you read Sarazens first, because you need to know the Sarazens plot in order to understand what's happening in Sarazen's Vengeance. Even the relationship between Andi and Ohlen can only be understood fully if you already know what has happened between Clary and Tarek, and the rest of the mated pairs in Sarazens.

Last preference:
For me, this story had too many sex scenes in proportion to its measure of storytelling. Though those sex scenes all are well written, my preference is to have a clear majority of the story drawn from whatever the primary genre might be. After reading Sarazens, I would have thought this book would be the same genre--fantasy with a strong romance element. Instead it seemed more like a romance novella, one with much more sex than fantasy elements.

The plot was very thin, and the arc of the story was interrupted by the romantic relationship rather than being fed by it. On the whole, the book needed more plot elements to balance the romance. It was especially a problem for me because the book didn't stand on its own when it really could have, and that would have made it a more interesting story, one that advanced the series as a whole rather than too often simply retreading the same ground as Sarazens.

Technical issues:
The constant misuse of possessives. Sarazen's is not and never has been the plural of Sarazen. Please, please take note of the proper use of apostrophes, Isabel Wroth and editor, and you'll make all us grammar-aware readers much happier and more comfortable in reading your good work.

DNF at I don't even know what percent- I'm so sad that this book sucked. I absolutely loved the first book and thought it was a wonderful start to what was going to be a kick ass sci-fi romance series. Unfortunately the author chose to do nothing in this second book but retell the story from book, just from another perspective. Nothing new at all, at least to the point I got to. I'm so disappointed. No idea why she chose to release the story like this. Maybe it will be worth a read for others but I didn't want to read book one again, I wanted a new story. Maybe the next one will be better, fingers crossed.

Going into this one I knew it might upset me a little just because of what the h went through... it did but it was also glorious. Seeing her turn from the meek self hating person to a creature of strength was lovely.

And Olhen.....o m g.... his compassion love and patience.....not as story heavy as book one but with it being a novella I didn't expect it to be. The only negative I have to say is the previous book was recapped with some of the exact same scenes as last book. Like copy and pasted from one book to the other. It would have been more interesting if they were changed a bit.

now back to stalking......err waiting for book 1.2

The hero in this book has to me one of my all time favorite male leads. He was so supportive, caring and so understanding of the heroine. His patience and gentle nature to her seemed so incredibly realistic. The one thing that I wasn’t a huge fan of, was that in book 1 I was under the impression that the hero had no prior intimate relationships. I would have much preferred that he had only been with the heroine. This would have easily bumped this book up to a 5 star read for me personally. Overall, I was still glad that I read this and that it was offered as a kindleunlimited. I will definitely read future additions to this series.

Most of this story takes place in parallel to the first book, but we get Andi's perspective. With Ohlen's help she overcomes her past abuse and regains her confidance.
The only new material starts near the end and it was quite exciting. I'm not sure if they will be able to regain .

Really enjoyed this, alternate POV running alongside the first book. It can be read as a standalone but it's better to read book 1 first

A good read by a promising author

This is the second book in this series and I think you will need to read the first one to truly appreciate this one.
This book is good enough to enjoy as it is. I just expected more from this story. I thought this would be Andi's back story. The struggle she had with Ethen and how she came to be rescued. But it basically picked up with the rescue of the humans.
That being said, I love Ohlen and Andi's story she was so traumatized and Ohlen is so patient and understanding of her fears.
The Sarazen plot thickens and we get to see Andi grow stronger as the story goes on. It was a little slow in the middle, but the action picks up toward the end. Absolutely worth finishing.
I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.

Cute

This couple was cute and sweet and had a very hard journey filled with problems new and old. I'm hoping we see more of them and get updates an certain things in the future. This story may not have had a perfect ending but It was still happy all things considered. I can't wait to see what's next for this group would recommend.

Good, but....

I am really enjoying this series. This is the second book in this series. I will probably buy the third.
That being said...
I was not exactly pleased to read the same exact story as the first book from a different point of vies. It was interesting to read the different emotions and all that, but I don't believe this was worth $3 for a different POV.

A retelling of "Sarazens claim" from Andi and Ohlens point of view. A boring retelling at that. I have no idea what in this story could have granted its separate book.

Just read last few chapters to keep up with overall storyline . The rest was not worth the time spent reading.

CW: Rape, Mutilation, Dismemberment, Gore, All the Bad Things

This novel starts out concurrently with the previous, which means there is a lot of overlap in the story. I felt like we got pretty much everything we needed from the first book, so the overlap was just frustrating. Having said that, I liked Andi and Ohlen enough that I was able to read through it.

Andi has been brutalized her entire life. Every year on her birthday since her 16th, one of her superior officers corners her and rapes her. She is powerless to stop him aboard the Starsong, and being rescued by a giant warrior race isn't exactly comforting to her. Especially when one of them claims she is his mate. But Ohlen isn't like the other males she's known; he's kind and patient, and makes sure she feels safe and wanted. He's also able to give her something no one else can - Strength. a transfusion of his blood will allow her to become a shapeshifter, which means she never has to be weak or powerless again.

I really loved how sweet Ohlen was with Andi. The other males were all kind of chauvinists, but Ohlen didn't try to railroad Andi or keep secrets from her. He was open and honest from the beginning, and wanted nothing more than her to find happiness.

Despite how cute they were together, I found the first part of the novel to be rather boring, since it was just a repeat of what we'd already read in the first book. Things picked up more when they went planet-side.

This story jjust keeps getting better

This story or series is really intresting. I originally thought this secound story would just be a rehash of the the first book but from Andis ooint of view but it was that and so much more. I really like the fact that that they also have so much more. The story has a kidnapping and other things going on. But to be honest you do need to read the first book in order to understand what is happening so read Sarazens claim first then this story many things were left out of the first story but only because it did not relate to each couple so when you read the first story you get claire story in this one andi and Olems I probly spelled the names wrong but you get the drift i am moving on to 1.2 book because it is kind of a cliffhanger. These stories are not only romance but adventure and intrigue

Sigh, over 75% of this book is the previous story just told from their pov. So at times I was bored.

Add in the ridiculous amounts of smooching, kissing etc- literally pages n pages describing them kissing, that I ended up skimming any love scenes. Way too many and read like a mills n boon.

Consequently very little actual new story. Massive mistake! Why on earth the author thinks we just want to read the same story just diff pov for each of the humans I dont know but I really hope the rest of the series isn't like this otherwise I'll be dnfing.

The differences were good esp the training andy did. But why arent they exploring more their capabilities? I've now read multiple times about their crystalline claws that can cut through ballistic proof metal yet they dont test it any further. So annoying.

How to kill a series. I'll try one more

After reading Tarek and Clary's story, I was worried that this book was gonna repeat the exact same events from Andi and Ohlen's POV. But nope, except for one or two passages, we got to read about a lot more, understand the characters and the world they now live in so much better.
I fell in love with Ohlen, his devotion, tenderness and violent protectiveness toward Andi. And I absolutely loved how Andi learned to trust him, to love him, to fight for him, for them.
Another amazing story set in an amazing world.

Pretty good. It's a novella. It is Andi & Ohlen's story. I re-covers key bits from book one and continues with the rooting out of the traitors; while delving more into Andi and Ohlen's relationship (obviously)
It's strange but I feel kinda removed from the characters and not as fully pulled into their story. While it is still enjoyable, I was fine with their story being short. I'm sure some of the interesting things revealed in this book will be touched on or expanded in future books, which I look forward to.
