Nineteen-year-old Absidy Jones is a ghost magnet, a sensitive person spirits flock to when they can’t cross over. After her brutal past escaping the hordes of ghosts vying for her attention, she spends her reclusive existence melting down iron into bite-sized pieces. Whether alloy or wrought, ancient paper clips or nails, consuming iron is the only thing that keeps the ghosts away.

But when Absidy’s sister goes missing in deep space, a dangerous place brimming with rogue planets, ship-eating nebulas, and vicious aliens, Absidy vows to find her. She leaves her safe haven and boards the first ship she can that’s on a direct route to deep space—a ship that turns out to be haunted.

To keep the malicious ghosts from killing her, the alluring bad boy pilot gifts her a small bundle of all the iron on the ship. But their growing relationship is tested with the crew’s prying eyes and hidden secrets.

While the ship sails into deep space, it’s not just her sister’s life that Absidy fears for. It’s her own, as well. Especially since her stash of iron has shrunk to zero.

I am not an avid sci-fi reader but this book just sounded good to me. Lindsey R. Loucks does a great job with this book, and I really enjoyed it. Anyone who likes Sci-FI an acation books from YA all the way up would probably enjoy this book. It is all fantasy. From Iron eating Absidy to the space ships.

In the book Absidy is living the life of most college students until she finds out her sister is missing in Deep Space. Abisdy eats iron to keep the ghosts at bay. She hides herself as a boy on a ship as a cooks apprentice in order to search for her sister. Not knowing the ship was haunted. Once on the ship she meets the Bad Boy Pilot who helps her by giving her more iron to ingest so the Ghosts cannot get her. But time is running out and so is the iron. If she doesn't find her soon she and her sister would be lost.

Wow, i mean seriously wow, i have just finished this book and i am just speachless... My brain cant quite come up with a way to describe how utterly amazing this book is, its the best book i have read this year if not longer, my heart is still pounding from the experience of reading this!

The first thing i need to say about this book is that it is not what i thought it was going to be, not in the slightest. Reading from the start i was hooked but it went to many different directions that surprised and shocked me every time but kept me smiling at the change of pace and direction, i like to be kept guessing and this book certainly delivered, right up until the end. The storyline in this book is so creative and imaginative, i am in awe of the imagination that this comes from so its now my mission to read ALL of Lindsey Louck's book, especially if they effect me like this one did, there comes a time when you read a book and when it finishes you cant get it out of your mind, scenes are still replaying in your mind and you just know that they will for a long time to come, well this is one of those... i dont want to leave the amazing world that is contruction in this book. It is filled with so many emotions, from all the characters and you can easily see yourself in their shoes making the same decisions. There is fear of discovery and loss of something that you dont realise how much you want until its nearly too late, the heart pounding feeling of discovery of another kind, care and love for those around you.... i could talk about this book all frickin day and still be able to say so much about it but i dont want to give anything away in this adrenaline rushing book.

Absidy...OMG i love her so so much! She is such a brave strong woman, one that we could all take something from. She always does things with the biggest of hearts and every decision she makes, she does what she believes is right to keep those she loves safe. She grows so much throughout this book and you live it with her, making you feel like you kow who she really is inside, her aims, her loves, the things that mean so much to her and the struggle she has had to live with her whole life and the fact she is still standing and fighting for what she believes in! I definately have a soft spot for Mace, he has also been through so much in his life, having the mental and physical scars to prove it but he also keeps on fighting every day to be the man that he wants to be not the man his experiences have made him, he loves freely with his whole heart when he gives it and will always do what he believes is right. These two characters are just two out of many in this book but they are all as well thought out and as passionate as these two, the love the author has put into these characters and this storyline comes across in every sentence.

I am so glad that i voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book and found this author, i cannot express how much of a must read this book is, this is a book you must have in your library, its outstanding!!!

Sail by Lindsey Loucks is a story about a young woman who is off at college when she gets the news from her dad that her sister has disappeared and that the last word that she transmitted before she disappeared in deep space was "Sail." Some people think that she has turned traitor and gone off to join a rebel group who fight against the others but Absidy thinks differently. She thinks that her sister was trying to say something else but that it got cut off before she was able to. But soon enough Absidy has her own problems to deal with when she tries to steal some iron washers and gets caught but then runs. Someone chases after her and he ends up dead and another guy who takes her picture at the scene of the crime winds up dead and the police come looking for her first about one incident and then a bounty is placed for the other two. But Absidy is now heading into deep space to find her sister on a haunted ship with a quickly dwindling supply of iron that helps keep her safe.
When you first see this book you immediately notice the chains in her long hair and the spikes on her clothes. Her look is totally badass and cool. I was so glad when I read that she looked EXACTLY like the cover (sometimes it's not always the case). But once trouble comes a knocking she has to sacrifice all of that so that she can hide and pretend to be a 14 year old boy apprentice chef. Absidy has to try to stay strong not just for herself but for her sister that she is hoping to find before it's too late.
This is a SciFi Romance but it's more science fiction that romance so just prepare yourself. While that is the case for me it does not detract at all from my enjoyment of this book at all. This book engaged me from the first page and I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know more about Absidy, about what happened to Earth and who the Saelis are and how everything is falling into place. This book will engage you from the first and keep you eagerly engaged all the way up to the end of where you'll be wanting to know what happens next. I honestly cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Great book and fantastic read!

Reviewed on http://bookaddict.live,
This is the first book in one of the most imaginative series I’ve read for a while, featuring Absidy a twenty year old student waiting for her family to meet for christmas break. When she finds out that her older sister has gone missing she is determined to find even if she is in black space.
Dressed as a teenage boy called Lewis she ends up as a trainee chief on a small ship with a small crew. Nothing goes right as the ship is haunted and its Absidy sees ghosts. So the adventure starts and takes directions you in directions you can’t imagine. This is a step in the future that is haunting and frightening at times. When Absidy went on board she never imagined she would have deal with Monsters around every corner. The only good thing as far Absidy knows is that Mase knows her secret, and soon they start getting hot and heavy. I'm not giving anything else away, I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook, it kept glued to my headphones.

Sail is Lindsey Loucks' first book in her Haunted Stars Series. While, I must admit, this is usually not my cup of tea, Sail hooked me quickly and never let go. Absidy's sister has gone into deep space, and Absidy is convinced that something has happened to her. She finds the first ship travelling a direct route to her sister's last known location and gets a job assisting the Chef. Only problem is that she is a wanted felon, so she disguises herself as a 14 year-old boy. The other problem, she can't even boil water much less cook meals.

The storyline is fairly fast-paced, filled with ghosts, bounty hunters, aliens, possessions and a touch of romance. There were a few times when I felt that there were gaps in the story that could have benefitted by more explanation, depth and/or more "story". The characters are well developed, with my favorites being Absidy and Mase. I am looking forward to reading book 2 to see what adventures it brings.

I listened to this on audio book, and I’m not sure how much of the issue is the narrator. She sounded dramatic at absolutely everything, which meant you either spent the whole book on edge, or there was no build of suspense.
As for the story itself, it had promise. I felt like it took forever to get to any kind of point in the plot, and descriptions were long winded all the time, unnecessarily. It took me months to get motivated to finish it, and you only really hit the excitement and plot movement near the end. I won’t be reading or the listening to the rest of this series.

I really enjoyed this sci-fi novel. You can always trust that Lindsey will come up with something entirely new in her books and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. I found the book very difficult to put down. I’m very glad I already have books 2 and 3 so I can continue this fascinating story

interesting premise

This book had an interesting premise and plot. It had way to much swearing and explicit sex.
I liked the idea of a ghost magnet who was addicted to iron. I really liked Absidy. She was a great protagonist. The Saelis were terrifying. Not sure I’ll read the next book in the series.

Sail is definitely a book with a futuristic theme and a creative edge.
Absidy is in the future, attending college, and she grew up on the ship Nebulous.
Her sister Ellison is missing and the Ringers responsible may the ones that destroyed Earth.

The law is after Absidy for stealing the iron she needs to keep the ghosts away that she attracts. She must take one the identity of a 14-year-old cooks apprentice aboard a ship to hide from the law. Strange things begin occurring and she relies on interacting with the crew for answers. They all begin to mistrust one another and try to avoid the ghosts. Absidy's cover is blown and she becomes romantically involved with a shipmate.

The author has a great imagination on how the developments of science fiction and the future. Development of the characters such as the sister, the storyline, and the planets would have been a nice addition to further enhance the understanding of the plot.

The story has great potential . The author has a fantastic imagination and creative writing ability. The three stars I give are for these positive aspects, the lacking two stars are for the potential to further develop the storyline and a bit of confusion in the timeline.

I received this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. All opinions are my own. I am a frequent and avid reader and supporter of writers and literacy. I look forward to reading additional titles from this author and her continued development in creativity and imagination. Happy reading!!

I have a love for haunted ship stories and that’s what made me pick up this book. The idea of being trapped on a ship, far from a safe harbor, and have to deal with vicious ghosts. I love watching the humans making alliances, breaking them, doing dumb things – all to survive long enough to get to the next harbor.

Absidy needs to go save her sister (Ellison) or at least find out what has happened to her. Her best friend Moon at college helps her come up with a plan to sneak on to a ship and head out into space to find her. The set up was a little silly, but once Absidy got on the ship Vicio and the ghosts started making pests of things, the story really picked up. I loved how the crew try to avoid the ghosts (tho not all are successful) and Absidy has a lot to do with how many survive the encounters.

At first, I liked how Absidy is masquerading as a 14 year old boy in order to avoid the authorities (who are looking for a long-haired, curvy 20 year old woman). Absidy and Moon plan well with a hair cut, clothes, and binding up her boobs. But later in the story, she accidentally leaves her girly panties in the shared bathroom. Ugh! You’re playing the part of a teen boy – why would you even pack girly underwear? Wear some teenboy boxers! C’mon Absidy, I want you to succeed! So, yeah, that was silly.

The romance was OK. It happened quickly. And did Mason ever explain why he was hiding in the dark just waiting to jump out and catch ‘James’ (Absidy’s teenboy name) at something? Turns out, James was showering and Mase got an eyeful of Absidy’s hidden attributes.

There weren’t enough ladies in this story. When there are more than 1 women in the same scene, they are talking fashion or boys…. sigh…. I want a bit more out of my scifi when it comes to the ladies. I often found their shared conversations vapid.

Absidy has a special affliction. She’s got a sensitivity to ghosts, which have treated her very roughly in the past (like broken bones and cuts deep enough to warrant blood transfusions). Her family finds a remedy of sorts which is staying in contact with iron all the time. Iron dissolves in her mouth, so she needs to constantly replenish her iron. This leads to all sorts of difficulties when iron becomes scarce. There was much I liked about this aspect of the story, though I had plenty of detail questions, like: why weren’t her parents ever accused of abuse when she was kid? Why not continue to wear iron in your hair or as jewelry or hidden in clothes? If her mouth dissolves iron, then does Mase really want her to engulf his masculinity?

The story surprised me by getting off the haunted ship and the story continued with daring motorcycle rides and a scary medical clinic. It was a fun tale with a few great scenes. 3.5/5 stars.

The Narration: Kamala Alcantara did well with the voices but had some technical issues with the recording. She had distinct voices for all the characters. Her voice for Absidy was spot on and her male character voices were masculine. I felt she was engaged with the story through out the entire book. However, the volume does go up and down. There are some mouth noises as well. 3.5/5 stars.

I had been eye-balling Lindsey's books for a while but this was actually the first one I have had the opportunity to read. Hands down, this is the most unique book I have ever read, and I read non-stop. This was a mix of sci-fi, paranormal and romance all rolled together to get an intense, completely unexpected experience.

I found the book to have an incredibly unique plot, one I have never seen or expected in my wildest imaginations. The main character, Absidy, eats iron to keep away the ghosts that seem to be drawn to her. But the problem (ok, there are a lot of problems, but let'a focus on one) is that her body is breaking down the iron too fast and iron is a rare commodity. Add in the fact her sister is missing and Absidy gets accused of a crime she did not commit and hides her identity to sneak on to a spaceship to try and find her sister. Yep, there was a LOT going on in this book, between the sci-fi space stuff mystery, creepy ghost paranormal incidents and the steamy sexual encounters with a roguish pilot. To sum it up, Absidy had her plate full of a hot mess.

The narrator had such a very feminine, girlish voice yet she was able to make so many other character voices, including multiple male characters with such skill! Her narration was really enjoyable, and I am a sucker for a narrator who can make the audiobook come alive that way. She did speak fairly slow so I did have to up the speed to 2.0x to keep my attention, but she was so clear and precise in her diction that I have no complaints. About half way through the book though the sound quality changed, the narrator's voice at random intervals sounded far away occasionally for no reason. It was odd and only occurred occasionally so it did not really impact the book.

This is very much so the first in a series, so many things were left unsaid and undone that you for sure will need the next book to find out more.

Sail by Lindsey Loucks is the story of Absidy Jones, a college student and ghost magnet who sets off into Deep Space to find her sister Ellison. Ellison has disappeared from her ship with only one final word - sail. To the Ringers, the guardians of the remaining humans, that means she voluntarily turned her back on everyone and everything to float on her own in Deep Space. Absidy knows that her sister wouldn't voluntarily do that, so running from the law and disguised as a 14 year old boy, she joins the crew of the Vicio as a chef's apprentice. She doesn't know that the ship is haunted until they are almost to Deep Space, and refuses to turn back in spite of the danger to herself, because she is desperate to find her sister.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The author's ability to describe the setting and the characters made it easy for me to picture them in my head. There was a lot of excitement and some twists that were unexpected and unique. Even though Absidy's character was unique, it was easy to identify with her because of her dedication to her family and her unwillingness to give up even though there was significant danger to herself. Mase's character was also interesting and his physical attributes made me really want to see a picture. Even though he came across as a big tough guy, once his secrets were revealed I became very empathetic towards him. I would definitely recommend this book and would read more books by Lindsey Loucks, even though Sci-fi is not one of my favorite genres.

I requested a copy of this book from the author with the intention of voluntarily submitting an honest review, which I have done here.

All I can say is WOW! What a story!! I absolutely LOVED Sail! This has to be one of the most creative, engaging, suspenseful, and just plain fun story lines I have had the pleasure to read this year. I just could not put this book down. I read it on the bus going to and from work, at work when no one was looking (snicker) on my lunch break, basically any time I could get away with it. The characters are fantabulous, and I really loved how much Absidy loves her family and they love her; how they will do anything for each other. The love scenes and developing relationship between Mase and Absidy are realistic, hot and loving. I loved how Mase kept slipping Absidy iron to eat so she could help them keep the ghosts away. I loved how she protected everyone on the ship, how even when she did not like them or was scared of them, or mad at them she still wanted to help them. Plus the fact of how the author just dropped subtle clues but you could never really figure out everything that was going on. Just LOVED this book! If I could only recommend one book in 2016, it would be Sail by Lindsey Loucks. If you haven’t read it, you need to because it is awesome!

This is AWESOME!
I can honestly say I haven't read anything like this before. Ghosts and space yes, but never mixed together.

Absidy is special, well she thinks it's a curse and I can't really blame her. She is ghost magnetic and has been all her life. But she has had traumatic and painful experiences as a kid. They can hurt her, badly. But thankfully she found something that helps IRON. Yes iron keeps the Ghosts away as long as she always has a stash of iron to melt in her mouth she is safe.
When her sister is missing in space she risks everything to find her. She gets into a bit of trouble before leaving and hiding from the law. But she has friends that helps her find away to get on a ship that is heading where her sister was last. Little did she know what being on the ship would bring her, mystery, terror, pain, friendship and love.
This book was brilliant, I got hooked from the start and really felt what Absidy felt. All that trauma as a kid? Wow she is still standing and has such a loving heart too. The people she cares about are such great characters too. Moon, Franco and Jezebel I hope to see again, that will be a great reunion. Then the crew of Vicio and what they do next I can't wait.

I have no read a couple of books from this author and am rather quickly becoming a fan! Lindsey has a very pleasant writing style that and hits the pace of the book spot on. Not once do I feel like the story is dragging, nor do I ever feel rushed. I think there is a very fine balance between those 2. The story is very unique and different, which is one thing I really enjoy about this author, she seems to have a vivid imagination that she shares with us. The plot is gripping and a thrill ride from beginning to end. It is quite the mystery but eventually it all comes together. There are some neat twists that keep you guessing along the way.

Absidy is an adorable character and rather lovable. She fights for the ones she cares for and will do what it takes to help them. She is a very strong heroine and fits this story beautifully. Mase, now he is an interesting character. I found he is not your typical hero, which makes me like him even more.

This book ends and doesn't leave you on a cliff hanger. However, it seems there will be more books following this one, and I have to admit I can't wait to read more!

I have received this book from the author for an honest review. (LoP, Lovers of Paranormal)

Once I got into this book, I couldn't put it down, as 2 in the morning to finsish it, couldn't put it down. It's that's good.

Absidy loves her family dearly and will do whatever it takes for her sister. Just her luck the ship she was able to get on, to go looking for her, is very much haunted, with the worst of the worst. We're talking hide in the closet, with a cross, a vile of holy water, a stack of iron the size of mt. Rushmore, and anything else you've ever heard might work haunted. And the crew knows it, and they also know that since the new crew member has arrived the dining room is now a safe area.

So after many haunts, a few missing people, a few bites taken, maybe an abduction or two, and wait.. I can't tell you all this you have to find out for yourself. You won't regret it

I read an ARC copy.

A few chapters in and I could not stop reading. I had to know what was going to happen next. You think you know and then something else happens and it changes everything! If you love a bit of sci-fi, paranormal, suspense, and romance all mixed together than this book is for you. The time setting in my opinion seemed futuristic but also a bit of steampunkish due to all the metal elements. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and some of their backstories.

I am interested to read the next book and see what Absidy, Mase, Ellison and the rest of the crew continue to do and if they follow through with their plans. Don't want to give any more spoilers away...

I received this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. All opinions are my own. Thank you to Lindsey R. Loucks for writing such a creative story and interesting characters.

In this book we are in space (far far away). The concept of this book if you ask me is very unusual - it was the reason i stared reading it.
It was a good book just to read and then wait for the second (it had lots of twists, but unfortunately not that big in romance level).

A. Jones - girl with strange power that make her shiver. She was good, the way she behaved with ghosts around and about iron (i like it very much - realistic). She would do anything for her older sister :)

Mase - sometimes i loved him and then i another started almost hating him.

Aliens (Saelis) were very strange; but made hmm... i was sure what they are about sometimes.

I will wait for next book as it made me ntresting how they will deal with aliens :)

Suspenseful, intriguing, and exciting story with lot of mystery and surprises. My imagination was overworking trying to visualize the scary creatures lurking in the dark. Kept me on edge expecting something bad at every pace. Absidy, our heroine, was unique, strong, smart and protective. Would had liked a visual of her hair with the chains. The descriptions and narrations of her encounters with the ghosts were intense. Way to craft the suspense! Mase's character was sexy and intriguing with the guilt that was eating him. Love these stories that keep the suspense all the time with a good plot development.

It just confused me...

I was excited to read this book after reading its synopsis of a ghost-seeing metal-clad young lady who eats iron pellets to keep the spirits at bay. Mixed with a sci-fi element, this book seemed to have an interesting storyline. However, I wasn't able to connect with the characters and the plot.

I found it confusing and there were a few storyline inconsistencies. Plus, I didn't appreciate how almost all of the plot explanations were lumped towards the end.

I was able to read this story on my Kindle due to a collection of books it was included in. I started reading it cold, no intro, no back cover synopsis, nothing. What I read was nothing short of an amazing tale set in space with fleshed out characters, a world with history, and settings that were able to be visualized easily. There are a ton of secrets and back story to this universe and the author does a bang up job of keeping a lot of it behind the scenes long enough to not give too much away. Loved this book, sad when I finished it, thankfully there's another coming soon.

I received Sail as a review copy from the author/publisher. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. An interesting story, mixing sci-fi, and a dash of paranormal, combined with an unusual story line. Plenty of twists and reveals kept the action steady and the pace moving at a fast clip. I was reading an advance reader copy, so there were a few errors, but overall, it was a great read.

This book was a little unexpected. I expected a paranormal romance but not a nerve wracking, nail biting thriller that kept me up way too late reading. Think Alien movie but with ghosts. The characters are likable, the plot is fast-paced and a little scary, and the writing is great. The author is definitely someone I will look for in the future. My review is based upon a review copy.

Hurtling Journey through Space
Sail, book 1 in a new series by Linsdey Loucks is a breath taking, non-stop roller coaster of a story. We follow the emergency adventure of Absidy, a chain wearing, metal eating outcast on a search for a goal that means the entire world to her but could very well be her undoing. This tale, told at break neck speed is well worth the read. Can’t wait for book 2!

I'm not normally into ghosts but I loved this book. A lot happens with twists and turns in the story and parts can be quite confusing but I need to know what happens next. This was a thrilling read with a real sense of danger in deep space and a little romance on the side. Great!
