Ruth Ryan Langan (aka Ruth Langan) is an award-winning author of romance novels. She is a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award winner and has twice been nominated for Romantic Times Reviwers' Choice Awards, for Jade and Return of the Prodigal Son. She has spent much of her career writing historical romance novels for the Harlequin Historicals line of category romances. Many of her book are set in medieval times, while others are western romances. She has also written some contemporary romances, and often includes elements of suspense in her novels.

Langan began her writing career in secret. Her family discovered her writings when her children came home unexpectedly from school one day and found her writing. When Langan's husband was told of her hobby, he bought her an electric typewriter "because 'writers need tools'". Her first book was published by Silhouette Books in 1981 after an editor picked it out of their slush pile. After the first sale was completed, Langan got an agent.

Langan is a charter member of the Romance Writers of America. She has five children and lives with her husband in Michigan.

Has also written under the name of Ruth Langan and R.C. Ryan

This could have easily been a four stars or more for me. I have a weak spot for coming to town romance. He’s the law and she’s the new girl in town, a flaunting beauty at that! But it was only so-so. It certainly has some fun and good moments. Unfortunately, a slight too much on family and old characters that we don’t get enough of the two main characters together and thriving! At the end, I didn’t feel like I know them well enough (despite seeing the growth of Ruby becoming a successful seamstress).

IMO, the author’s storytelling sets a detached vibe to the MCs and romance plot. There wasn’t a whole lot of romance, buildup, or development. Whatever little romance there was lacked actual chemistry, tension, angst and any sort of deep feelings or attachment. Very low to nonexistent emotions. There was no ow or om to stir the pot. It would have been the perfect thing and combo creating angst and jealousy, which we strongly needed to make this romance oh, so satisfying!

Based on the summary alone I thought they would be a spicy duo and often bickering. I was hoping Ruby would flaunt more and be like a seductress, while Quent behaves mostly like a spiteful strait-laced enforcer but can’t help eyeing, admiring and secretly desiring her. That we got for only two seconds, y’all. They quickly got on, so well and so straightforward they decided to dive deeper into their newfound relationship. The intimacy not only then felt rushed but insignificant and even forgettable? For the reader and probably for themselves. Ruby didn’t seem to regard it as much, she neither wonder concerningly nor reminisced it, and Quent only care to be carry away. A casual affair for dos!

Then, without a proper investigation Quent being a Cochon (French for pig in the word of Ruby) and a Dumas (slang for dumbass in the word of I) well went to arrest Ruby for the second time for a mistaken case of thievery. Oh, I certainly thought he was damn foolish! and outright forced! Clearly, the author wanted a tiff to keep them apart but it wasn’t well done. I didn’t feel anything except high disbelief! Despite it all, I do recommend. It’s far from being an awful story, rather charming and cute if one likes action, family and a lukewarm romance. I wish for more.

Esperava menos... me surpreendeu...

Na verdade, eu não simpatizava muito com a Rubi. Isso só demonstra que cometi um grande erro, o mesmo erro que toda a cidade de Bayou Rouge ou Hanging Tree cometeram. Fora que me deixei levar pelas resenhas e acabei começando a ler ressabviada.

This is fourth in a series of novels following the offspring of the deceased Onyx Jewel. There are five books centered on his children, Diamond, Pearl, Jade, Ruby and Malachite. I have not read the other novels and have no interest in doing so.

From those names, you know this book is sappy and has a cornball element. That being said, it is enjoyable and has a nice cast of secondary characters that flitter through. It's a fluffy, quick read if you're bored.

I give Langan book major credit for flouting convention with a heroine who enjoys flaunting her decolletage. Ruby is self-aware, sexy, and naturally inclined towards flirtation. She doesn't believe there is man alive she cannot manipulate with her feminine wiles. It works, for those who like their heroines more humble, because Ruby's attitude is partly a brittle facade she uses to deflect the fact that negative opinions cause a real sense of unrest in her. The more she is judged for her appearance and behavior, the more she relies on them as a safety net. Loved Ruby. She made this book for me.

The cover art is a perfect depiction of her.

As Jóias do Texas 04
Rubi
Ruth Langan

ADORO!!!
