**Updated for Audiobook**

** Cliffhanger Alert **
For all those who groaned over the teaser at the end of Model Citizen for being a cliffhanger. This is a cliffhanger.

Brian Hutchison delivers a nice performance with varied, if sometimes similar, character voices and nice timing and pacing.

Hutchison's voice is well modulated without being monotone, and it was especially easy to get lost in this audio on a couple of long drives and while I was doing chores.

Told entirely from Kade's POV, we get some backstory on how things were for him before he was able to get to Ollie, and it's heartbreaking.

There's more relationship development between Kade and Ollie and their love for one another really shines through - especially in Brian's audio performance. One of my favorite things about this series is how much I absolutely love the relationship between Kade and Ollie.

Kasey absolutely delivers a great story with an interesting plot, romance, fascinating characters, and suspense, and Hutchison's performance makes it all flow and does the ending service turing it into a real nail biter (and that cliffhanger! Ahh!).

I really enjoyed the mystery, action, romance, and narration. I hope Brian Hutchison will be back for the narration of Model Investigator (Haven Investigations #3).

I have to applaud an author who's willing to put it all out on front street. And Kasey certainly does when she warns, up front, that this is going to end as a doozy.
For all those who groaned over the teaser at the end of Model Citizen for being a cliffhanger. This is a cliffhanger.

damn_girl

But let's discuss this, shall we? Whether you call it a "teaser" or a "cliffhanger", and it may be small, large, trivial, or profound, but if the audience is left in suspense over any part and has to wait for closure - that makes it a cliffhanger.

cliffhanger

And boy does this story have one.

Told entirely from Kade's POV this time, we get some backstory on how things were for him before he was able to get to Ollie, and it's heartbreaking.

I absolutely loved the fantastic relationship between Kade and Ollie, I mean I love how they fit together and how well Kade takes care of Ollie.

I really enjoyed the very interesting mystery, I felt like it is tightly woven, and there is some good action that helps the momentum. There are breadcrumbs throughout that give you a good idea of who's behind it all, but in all it's definitely well done.

While the relationships in Model Citizen were more about Ollie's friendships, particularly with Will and B, Model Bodyguard definitely centers around Kade and Ollie, with some Tomas and Ty sprinkled throughout, but I missed Will and B in this one.

I have to say I didn't expect so little time spent on Nathan's storyline. It feels unfinished, so a definitive conclusion for that is still outstanding.

But the biggest negative, for me, of course, is the huge, major, profound, and massive cliffhanger with no clear timeline on when book 3 will be released to clear everything up.

jennifer-lawrence-screaming

I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't have picked this up without also having the next in hand if I had known beforehand about the cliffie, but I'm sort of glad I did, because I really, really enjoyed this. I just also really, really want the next one. Like now.

I’m pretty sure this is the perfect case of ‘it’s not the book, it's me’...or more accurately, it's my current mood.

This is a continuation of the first book Model Citizen and cannot be read as a standalone. I liked this more than the first but I still didn’t connect to either character, or to them as a couple. Technically speaking Ollie and Kade were a great couple, helping each other through personal issues, being honest with each other and no stupid misunderstandings or breakups. I just didn’t care about them. It could be because I didn’t enjoy the first book and that happened to carry over to this book, which I know isn’t fair because this book was better than the first.

This was less OTT than Model Citizen and although there was still the fair share of ridiculously sleazy bad guys, the mystery was much better this time round, as was the cliffhanger. I actually found the story fairly slow going though. There was a even balance between mystery and couple time but because I didn’t care about the couple, I would’ve preferred more mystery.

Honestly my favourite part was Ollie’s gender fluidity. However I was very sad to be teased by this killer quote and not get a follow up.

I groaned as my pants tightened. Now I’d spend the rest of the day imagining what he’d look like over our desk, skirt up around his waist, silk of some unknown color hugging his fine curves . “You’re so evil.” I could imagine pulling them down just enough to trap his cock against him while I ate his ass and made him writhe.

Seriously though, all the sex was super hot! Probably where my positive ratings come from.

This one didn’t work for me personally but it has for so many people. Look at a variety of reviews, but I would recommend giving it a go if you’re generally a fan of OTT characters, mystery and scantily dressed men..

I’m hooked - I love Ollie & Kade. Ollie’s previous boyfriend comes back into the scene needing protection from some crazy stalker. Of course Kade would rather kill Jacob for the way he hurt Ollie but eventually they come to an understanding. It didn’t take long for me to work out the culprit but that bloody ending ... are you serious ??? What in the ever loving fuck ! Okay it’s book 3 for me

It was with bated breath that I jumped at the opportunity to read 'Model Bodyguard', book two in Lissa Kasey's 'Haven Investigations' series. I loved the first book and fell head over heels for both Ollie and Kade. Knowing this novel was going to be from Kade's point of view had me yanking at the bit waiting for it. It didn't hurt that I knew this author was going to bring me mystery, intrigue, action, and adventure, along with a strong cast of main and secondary characters, not to mention tantalizing hints to make me think. So, yes. I couldn't wait to read this book!

"Ollie was my Alice, my savior, and co-conspirator. Most days I felt like the Mad Hatter, following him around with an incoherent mash of madness lingering just beyond our existence. But I couldn’t recall ever being so happy."

I wonder if Lissa Kasey can feel the evil eyes I'm giving her if she's not writing the next book already! She warned us this was a cliffhanger and since the cliffhanger from book one isn't resolved yet, it should be one hell of a book when it comes out.

I didn't get all that invested in Ollie in book one but this story is from Kade's POV. It explains so much more of what drove Ollie and the underlying issues he had. Kade is totally devoted to him, yet doesn't stifle or smother him and I'm totally in love with Kade. He's almost too perfect sometimes but he understands and knows how to use the support of counseling and therapy. It makes so much of the characterization feel genuine.

The secondary characters are expanded on, like Ty becoming a very present figure in Kade and Ollies life, since he's dating Tomas. B and Will don't have much presence in this story, which is fine, since this part covers only a few days. They are all very well-drawn characters and I really like the diversity they're given. There's also a dose of humor and snark added to highly realistic dialogue. But Jacob, Ollie's other ex appears and now needs Haven Investigations for a stalker that's getting too close. He'd like to get a shot at Ollie again, too, but Kade is determined to disillusion him, real fast! This is also a very sexy story but not overwhelmingly so, as well as being very romantic.

Kade: “You are a billion times more important to me than any case, amount of money, or history coming up. You are more than sex. I wake up every morning thrilled to find you in my arms, and fall asleep every night dreaming of you. I hope you understand that.” “Why are you so good to me?” he whispered, his voice strained and quiet. “Because I love you.”

They end up taking the case and that starts a very complex story of mystery, suspense and murder. This was a much tighter and more difficult mystery, where the villain wasn't as easily guessed. I did guess right but was by no means certain since there's several suspects. I really got sucked into the story as I read. It flowed quite well and I was reluctant to stop reading when I had to. The ending though, the ending! Totally a hair-pulling-out moment. I look at this way; I'll have the pleasure of rereading this when the next book comes out. I'll be able to catch details I might have missed the first time. You absolutely need to read Model Citizen before this one. If you're the type that can't stand cliffhangers, keep these on your reading list, because it's a helluva good series.

Strange that we stumble from a cliffhanger at the end of book 1, to another at the end of book 2...and we're still no further forward regarding the revelation about Ollie's brother Nathan at the end of book 1???? Am I going mad? Was it all just my imagination? Has the author herself forgotten what was going on at the end of book 1? Who knows....I certainly don't!!

Anyhoo, it looks as though Kade's evil and religiously overzealous [ooh and let's not forget bigoted] family have kidnapped him from the hospital where he was recovering from serious injuries, to force him to endure another pointless and no doubt painful round of 'cast out the gay'. For Christ's sake, he's 34 AND gay...just accept it and move on you morons!!

Lissa Kasey’s Model Bodyguard is the second book in her Haven Investigations series, and it carries on with the plot-driven story that is full of suspense and mystery. Yes, there is also some romance but it is fitted into the story appropriately.
This book is told from Kade’s POV and it is at times a frantic pace as Kade and Ollie take on a client who is Ollie’s former boyfriend, much to Kade’s dislike.
Jacob is a rock star who is being stalked by some unsavory person who leaves him with torn and stabbed stuffed animals and other mementoes. The mystery is how the villain is able to get to the places where the relics are left since supposedly no one has access to these places. However, there are dozens of suspects and it isn’t as easy as locking doors to figure out who is the culprit. It could be family, friends, crew, or somebody they haven’t yet identified.
Kade and Ollie’s bodyguard/investigation company is hired by Jacob’s sister to guard him and stop the threats. Since Jacob already has a crew of bodyguards and Kade is jealous of Jacob and Ollie’s former relationship, Kade wants to skip this client. When he is convinced to take the job he takes it whole heartedly.
Ollie is an androgynous model who Kade has fallen in love with in the first book, and to protect him, Kade has seen to it that Ollie is well trained in martial arts and armed with a Taser. Kade sees every threat against Jacob as also a threat against Ollie.
Ms. Kasey is not afraid to put in peril central characters and perhaps even kill one or two, so go into this with your eyes wide open. This is a very exciting book with a violent twist ending. This is the kind of book I love, full of mystery, suspense, twists and turns, and, yes, romance and sex. I’m looking forward eagerly to the next book in the series where we might get some answers to questions that have been dangling unanswered throughout the series, so far. Highly recommended. I suggest you read the series in order, but since this is only the second book that is not a hardship.

Me ha gustado más este libro desde el punto de vista de Kade.
Ves como su relación funciona y cómo Kade cuida de Ollie.
El misterio un poco lento pero interesante ver al ex de Ollie.
Y ese final!!! Toma cliffhanger!!!

wow ... speak of cliffhanger. this book has one of the worst/best cliffhanger ever. can't wait to get my hands on the next book

contrary to the first book in this series, which was told from Ollies POV, this is from Kades perspective. and I loved it.
We learn so much about Kade but also about Ollie. these two have worked their way into my heart and are one of my favourite couples ever!!!!

the storyline is done perfectly and I loved both, the relationship part as well as the plot.

this is one of the best books of this year

want the next one!!!!!

I am not sure how this happens. I loved, loved, loved the first book in this series but I really, really, really didn't like this one.

I don't know if I have ever read a book with a different POV and have it change the entire tone of the story. Losing Ollie's POV ruined this for me. Actually, it ruined Ollie for me.

Let's back up though. Ok. I am one of the few who didn't feel like the first book in the series ended on a cliffhanger. I get why people felt that way but I didn't get that anxious I can't wait feeling, I just felt like it was the perfect opening for the next book, this book. Guess what though? This book started and acted like that never even happened. I am absolutely 100% confused by that. How is it possible that something I felt was a BIG FUCKING DEAL is just skimmed over like they imagined it? This seriously pissed me off.

Anyway. This story is told in Kade's POV. I probably could have done without this. He did nothing to advance the series as far as I am concerned. Honestly, he kind of took someone I loved dearly and made me not like them much at all. He made Ollie seem like this whimpering, poor me, well, nothing but a pretty face. Like he was a child and Kade's main job was to make sure he was cared for and not in the hot and romantic cared for way. How did this even happen?

This case. Just no. What a cluster-fuck and seriously Jacob and your really fucked up family? Just no. I don't even know what to say about it honestly. I hated the whole thing. NO, NO, NO. I don't even want to talk about this part.

The end. Yes, it was exciting. Yes I was scared as fuck for Kade because OMG! And yes, I knew what was going to happen. I knew exactly what the cliffhanger was going to be. What I don't understand is how it is even possible. I am assuming, God, I probably shouldn't do that, we are going to get the entire story in the next book. I mean, I can see where this is going. I was wrong about this book though so who knows what the third book is going to be about!

Anyway. I just don't know. I am reading the next one because I want answers but I have a horrible feeling that the first book to me was a one hit wonder in this series. I just don't like the change in direction. Ollie and Kade and the crew almost come across as bumbling idiots. Ugh.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 because still no 1/2 stars here on GR and I really did like this one a bit more than the first one.

I love it when a series just gets better...

I really enjoyed 'Model Citizen' the firs book in Lissa Kasey's 'Haven Investigations' series this one has definitely stepped things up a notch or two.

While 'Model Citizen' was about Ollie's POV this time around we're given Kade's POV on life with Ollie and I loved it. Kade loves Ollie there's zero doubt about that but he also sees Ollie in a very realistic way which is really, really good for Ollie because Ollie's got some issues that need to dealt with in a realistic way. I just love that I don't feel like Kade views Ollie as a burden to be taken care of. For Kade, Ollie's issues are just a part of Ollie and need to be dealt with in a positive and constructive way which is what Kade does.

Things are going good for Ollie and Kade. As a couple they're on fairly solid ground and the PI business is doing a lot better with the addition of Kade. Plus the house that Ollie bought for him and Nate to build a family in is getting renovated by Kade as well and even this task shows Kade's love for Ollie with how sensitive he is to how much the house means to Ollie and that there are areas of the house that he knows Ollie's not ready for him to tackle yet because they were meant to be Nate's space and Ollie's still grieving for his brother. He's trying to get on with his life but it's hard and it gets a little harder when questions start arising surrounding Nate's death.

Kade's POV not only gives us a closer look at Kade's life before he came to Haven Investigations but more detail as to how he came to be at Haven Investigations...he had some scary stuff going on and we're not talking PTSD from the war here, ok?

Ironically it's once again Ollie's past that brings a mystery back to their door along with Jacob...Ollie's ex and a definite contributor to Ollie's issues. Nate's a rock star and a playboy he doesn't do relationships just sex and kink but somewhere along the way he's picked up a stalker...one who's decided that he needs to be punished in a permanent way and there's no limit to the suspects in this one. Jacob's whole family is at the top of the list. This is one serious group of users and leeches and getting to the bottom of things and figuring out who wants Jacob punished may be impossible since Jacob's loyalty is pretty extreme in that he feels that his family is above reproach and would never hurt him...did I mention that Jacob might be a little delusional...trust me he is because I wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could throw them.

Kade's got his hands full as he tries to keep contact between Ollie and Jacob to a minimum because honestly interacting with Jacob really isn't in Ollie's best interest and Kade's got his own insecurities where Ollie's ex's are concerned because Ty...who is also an ex of Ollie's seems to be around a lot more as well, thankfully though this is because he's seeing Tomas so his presence is far less stressful and concerning for Kade. Also let's not forget Kade's still dealing with his own physical injuries and a past that doesn't want to let go of him and may not be over yet.

I loved seeing things from Kade's perspective and I really loved how much Ollie and Kade's relationship has strengthened. Kade is so good for Ollie and good to Ollie. I also felt that Ollie was truly beginning to get past his grief from losing his brother Nate and make a real effort to move forward with is life. I loved seeing Ollie as a capable, contributing partner in Haven Investigations and not some damsel in distress who needs constant rescuing.

Kade and Ollie's relationship may be fairly solid but that doesn't mean that having Ollie's sexy rock star ex in their lives isn't going to be a test for them and sadly for the ready because...holy hell!!! did you see the size of that cliff that the author has left us sitting on? It's a biggie and while I know I could pop the next e-book onto my e-reader to find out what happens I've really been enjoying this series on audio. While the first one was narrated by Mike Pohlable this time around we've been treated to the narrations of Brian Hutchison and I've really enjoyed this one. While I liked Ollie's voice in the first book pretty much everyone else except the annoyingly whiny Donovan was just ok and while this is only my second audio book narrated by Brian Hutchison I have to admit that from an audio standpoint I enjoyed this one a bit more.

I'm really enjoying this series on audio and I admit I'm hoping, really, really hoping that the third audio book isn't too far off but in the meantime because I can't wait to see what's going to happen next with Kade and Ollie but until it arrives I'll just be sitting here over on the cliff's edge...you know that really, really steep cliff that Ms Kasey has left me on passing the time with some more audio books or an e-book here and there...who knows I may even have a DTB or 2 lying around to pass the time with.

Audiobook review

4,5 stars

The first book, Model Citizen was narrated by Mike Pohlable. I loved that book and I loved Mike's narration I loved how he really captured Ollie. So going into this book I was a bit skeptical and wary to the change in narrator. That was until I realized that the first book was told entirely from Ollie's POV and this one was all Kade, so it really does fit to have two different narrators for the books.

This book kicks off with a flashback to Kade in the hospital, healing from wounds he'd gotten during the war, just finding out about his best friend Nathan's death, wondering and worrying about Ollie. We also get a glimmer of his home life and family. And it's far from a good one. We also find out that Kade might not be as stable as he might seem.

In the present things are moving forward, seemingly smoothly, with Kade and Ollie. The business is making a profit and Ollie is taking on a few modelling gigs. That all changes when another of Ollie's ex boyfriends shows up demanding help with a stalker. To say that neither Ollie nor Kade is thrilled with Jacob turning up is to put it mildly and they refuse to help him - until threats are getting real and Jacob's life might just be at stake. What they unravel is a family that doesn't seem to care for another, it's full of secrets, blackmail and maybe even murder.

Jacob was far from my favourite person in this book. He was on my shitlist from the moment he entered this book and that never really changed all that much - ok so I'll admit to thawing a bit towards him at the end. I also believe there is a chance for him to make amends in future books to come - if given the chance that is.

While Jacob might not be a favourite of mine, there are so many other great characters that I enjoy. The family Ollie and Kade has created is a good one. They are always there with a helping hand, words of wisdom or a kick in the behind. The relationship between Kade and Ollie also solidifies, but at the same time I also feel that it is a bit imbalanced, that everyone is just a little bit too protective of Ollie.

The thing with expectations can be good or bad. From the way the first book ended, I expected more Nathan, more discussions around his death, more investigation to find answers. But he was hardly ever mentioned in anything but in passing. Not that it was bad or made the story lacking, I just expected some more answers in this book. Maybe we'll get answers in future books?

Like I said in the beginning of this review, I was a bit wary of Brian Hutchison narrating this book. But that only lasted a couple of minutes (reading blurbs before starting a book would be helpful at times). Then I really enjoyed it. He was a good fit for Kade's character and captured the essence of the book. However, there was at least one part where the narrator moved around a bit as the sound became a bit distorted, but that's just a minor thing as it was only for a moment.

I really enjoy this series, and I really hope the other two books will be made into audios as well. I'd recommend this book (series) to anyone looking for a good suspense novel, but for the sake of your own sanity, do have book 3 ready to go before finishing this one, because that cliffhanger...

4 stars. Audiobook. Series following the same couple, must be read in order. I could only find the first three in audio, which left some of the story untold. There are two main plot/schemes/mysteries and one of them is completed by the end of the third book. The second main mystery is mentioned throughout, but seems like that one is resolved in the fourth book, which I didn’t read. Overall pretty good story and characters, first two books are a bit slow and the third book is non stop revelations and action.

The narration by Mike Pohlable in the first book is pretty bad, borderline cringy. Much better narration in book 2/3 with Brian Hutchison.

*Fair warning : For all those who groaned over the teaser at the end of Model Citizen for being a cliffhanger. This is a cliffhanger.*

I was temped to skip this one because of the cliffhanger. At first.
But then after I read a few early chapters, I can't just ignored it. I know Jacob will will be a test for Kade and Ollie's relationship. Because, damn, even Kade admitted that Jacob is freaking hot. And he's worried all the time every time Jacob near Ollie.

But I didn't find it was annoying every time Kade need to be near Ollie when Jacob's around. He's a mother hen all the time. And Ollie, he's getting more and more attached to Kade, thankfully!
Kinda cute how Ollie took his breakfast every morning. I think I want that too, Kade is just so right for him.

I hated Jacob in the beginning, because, he hit on Ollie all the time and irritated Kade. And Me!
But, Ollie made sure, and told Jacob that his heart solely belonged to Kade. This made me happy. They're solid.

Jacob's problems though, was a big fucked up. Family drama dominated their investigation this time.
I'm already knew that this is going to be a cliffhanger. But, a major cliffhanger like that?
I mean MAJOR, with unsolved mystery and a new upcoming problem, and the possibility that Kade won't be able to see Ollie for a long time. That's what I called MAJOR CLIFFHANGER!

But I can't give this book low rating, because, as much as I wanted to yell at the author, I enjoyed this story, much more than the first one.
But then, I saw there's no release date for the next book. and I was mad again.
I need book three ASAP!

We're gonna need to bump up book 3 a little sooner than May/June 2017 because this one ended with a bigger cliffie than the first book. Not only are the questions surrounding the suicide of Ollie's brother Nathan still unresolved from book 1, but now we'll have a situation with Kade's family that needs dealing with. I really enjoyed that this one was from Kade's POV. There was no doubt how much he loved Ollie and how good he was for him. I also loved that we got to see more of Ollie in lace and silk panties, as well as lace hose and also tiny little short shorts that he may or may not have worn commando. Wasn't sure if I'd ever like Ollie's rock star ex Jacob because he seemed like such a dick for a lot of the book. But, after Kade laid down the law that Ollie was his, and Jacob agreed to back off, he kind of grew on me after a while. Especially when you saw a more human side to him and how he still wanted to take care of his family even though they took advantage of him and only cared about how much money he made. It was great to see Will, Britney, Ty and Tomas again too and I can't wait to see what's next for all of these guys (yes, even Jacob). Bring it.

*Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie by Dreamspinner Press for my reading pleasure in hopes of an unbiased opinion, a review was not a requirement.*

Model Bodyguard is the second book in Lissa Kasey's series, and is not a standalone. This series follows Oliver and Kade and must be read in the appropriate order. The first book is from Oliver's point of view and this one is told in Kade's. With this being Kade's POV, we got more of his history, which just made me like him more.

Kade and Oliver's relationship is going well, as is their business. Oliver is back modeling and Kade is expanding the business. Then Oliver's ex-boyfriend, Jacob, comes back into the picture with the excuse of needing Oliver's help. Only Kade refuses to let Oliver be dragged back into the mess of Jacob's life.

Oliver and Kade's relationship showed a lot of growth and stability. Oliver was trusting Kade and was taking care of himself. But with his ex back in the picture, there were some setbacks in their relationship that they were able to work through. I still really like these characters, and the additional ones in Kade and Oliver's lives. I loved the addition of Newt and really felt this let us see a different, softer side of Oliver.

The focus of this story is really about Jacob's case, and was very convoluted with a lot going on. There are A LOT of characters in the story and a lot of different storylines around him and his family and employees. This mystery was well done, though again I knew who the culprit was going to be. I did not foresee the resulting final scenes with the culprit and I did not foresee that ending.

This book ended in a cliffhanger and that was made obvious by the author's comment at the beginning of the book, which must have been in response to people who felt the first book ended in a cliffhanger. This ending was to show them what a real cliffhanger ending was. As a reader who hates cliffhangers, I appreciate her comment at the beginning because had I not had the third book already available, I would not have read this book. I hate cliffhanger endings, so much, that I have quit reading authors when no forewarning was given and instead a book just ended with no conclusion and caught me by surprise. So, if you're reading this book make sure you have the third one ready to go!! As with the first book, I would have felt completely different with this book if I did not have the next book to move onto. I really enjoyed this story, but absolutely hated the ending. Hated, as in, if I was rating just the ending, I would have given it a -100 stars, hated it. Which means you need to read this series (seriously, have book 3 ready to go immediately after finishing) to find out what could cause such a strong reaction! This is a very well done series!

DNF at 67%.

I enjoyed the narrator a lot but the story leaves quite a bit to be desired.

1. This is age gap with a 23-year old and 34-year old. The younger guy is consistently I fantasized and controlled in a rather disturbing way. There's some weird stuff going on with the older guy going to his drs appts and helping to manage his physical and mental health. Also, there are a LOT of mentions of how the older guy was in his life when the younger was a kid, including reading him to sleep, etc. it just has this creepy feel.

2. The first book kinda ends with a "ooooh. Maybe there's more going on with the brothers death". This book hardly mentions it except for "I researched it and didn't find anything. Oh well". Uh, this is a mystery series. Why don't you explore the mystery set up. And if there's "nothing", take us along for the ride. Makes no sense that there's nothing going on.

I just don't care enough. I looked at book 3 and it seems like it devolves further and I do not need that.

This was so good. Both the mystery and the romance were gripping, and i love that we got some narration time from Kade, especially because Jacob the ex is back on the picture.
The cliffhanger is hanging and it's going to eat at me

Ollie Petroskovic and Kade Alme’s relationship has developed into something intense and somewhat unusual. They both need each other, in their own way. Ollie still deals with recovering from anorexia—sometimes he’s confident and sometimes not—so you never know how he’s going to react to situations. He also still carries grief from his brother Nathan’s supposed suicide. One thing that really stands out about Ollie is that he’s comfortable with who he is, even though he doesn’t fit into a specific gender. He still can flow from his modeling gigs to being a PI with no problem.

Kade is a longtime friend of Nathan and Ollie. He served with Nathan in the military, and always had a special relationship with him. Nathan kept in touch, through letters and gifts, and Kade always had a home to go to because of Nathan. Most of all, Kade never lost interest in Ollie. Once he and Ollie got together, there was no stopping Kade; he is Ollie’s support and protector.

Jacob Elias, Ollie’s ex, comes back into the picture in Model Bodyguard. Kade doesn’t feel comfortable at all about taking Jacob’s case. Kade always feels that little bit of doubt that he might lose Ollie to Jacob. But Ollie and Kade wind up involved anyway, and find it even more bizarre when they meet Jacob’s family. Jacob is an enabler. He’s taken care of his family members to the point that they’re almost self-destructive. Jacob has made a mess of things, and one stupid move puts Ollie and Kade in a horrific situation—Kade finds himself in a nightmare he may never escape.

Lissa Kasey created more than a cliffhanger in Model Bodyguard. This book is gripping, action packed, and is a definite heartbreaker. It’s filled with some strange characters and red herrings—anyone could be guilty. I liked the way Kade tells much of the story; he holds nothing back, and he wears his heart on his sleeve. Ollie is one of the most unique characters that I’ve run across. He and Kade are made for each other. I was on the edge of my seat while reading this one. I didn’t trust Jacob or his somewhat deranged family. When I knew that Ollie was heading into an insane situation, I found myself yelling at him right along with Kade. The next installment in the series is scheduled for release in mid-2017—this is one I’ll be watching for.

I really like Ollie and Kade together, and find the gender fluid Ollie in particular to be a great character. I love that he is confident in who he is and never lets others influence how he dresses or behaves. Ollie is tough and spunky and while he sometimes lets his heart lead him into danger, he is just a really fun character and I enjoyed getting a chance to follow along with him and Kade for another case. Their relationship has grown nicely since the first book and we can see how much these guys have settled together and made a life for themselves.

I will admit that I continue to find it frustrating the way Kade seems to always be managing Ollie, however. This is something I noted in my first review as well. Kade is super protective of Ollie and sometimes treats him like his is a fragile thing that needs tending. Ollie does have a propensity for getting himself in trouble, but he also smart and tough and not nearly as delicate as Kade sometimes acts. On one hand, Kade often acknowledges how strong Ollie is, but at the same time he is always hovering, watching what Ollie eats and what he is doing and monitoring for trouble. I get that Ollie has some emotional issues, but I found the caretaker vibe sometimes too heavy handed.

The mystery end of things is a nice way to bring some closure to Ollie’s relationship with Jacob. However, I did find things a little convoluted at times. I think Kasey does a nice job keeping us guessing who is involved and I enjoyed following along as each of the friends and family are investigated. But at the same time, there seem to be so many issues and moving parts, that at times I had trouble following along with all the different elements. I think this was exacerbated by the fact that the reveal of who is behind it all comes very late in the book and things end pretty abruptly, so we didn’t quite have the time to absorb the reveal and reflect back on how it then fits into everything going on with the story.

M/M Romance, mystery
Triggers: Child Abuse
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Ollie and Kade are a solid couple. They love each other and despite some of their own insecurities, they balance each other well.

When Ollie's ex-boyfriend hires them, Kade knows that Jacob, the ex, has ulterior motives, but also realizes that there is a real threat to him as well.

Ollie is working hard to keep his past behind him, but with his ex in danger, Ollie still knows that deep down, despite the abuse he suffered, Jacob can be a good person.

There are a lot of people involved in this story and each one has a lot to gain. The mystery portion of this story is very fast paced and well developed. You want to guess throughout and when you finally figure it out, it's not a huge shock.

What I think makes this story the most interesting is Kade's predicament. I can't wait to see what happens in the next story and who comes forward as the alpha male.

I knew there was a reason I hadn't read this one yet and now I realize that I must have read reviews saying that this ends in a major cliffhanger. Hell yes, it does. Holy crap. I'm so glad I waited until the third book was out because not only would I have been pissed, I would have forgotten what the stinking cliffy was when the third finally arrived. I loved how this book was from Kade's POV. It's insane how much he loves and takes care of Ollie. What a couple. And Jacob, boy what a douche. It was only towards the end that I could stand him at all. Great mystery in this one. I had no idea who the culprit was until we were supposed to know. Now I have to put off all other books because I really need to know what's going on with Kade!
