Your electrical power fails due to a storm, terrorist attack, EMP or other catastrophe. Hyperinflation leads to an economic collapse and food and medical supplies stop flowing to the cities. A pandemic spreads death around the globe. These are not relatively localized disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, wild fires, ice storms or floods, where you know help is on the way and all you have to do is hunker down and tough it out. These are nationwide or perhaps global disasters that will disrupt food, energy and water supplies. Hospitals are overrun and government may well cease to function. The upshot being, no help is coming, at least soon and possibly never. What will you do to keep yourself and your family relatively secure? I ask you that, using the words “relatively secure” because you will not be able to keep anyone safe in such scenarios. No one living in or near a city will be safe. This book offers specific advice and instruction, as well as general guidelines you will have to tailor to your unique circumstances, to help you keep your family as relatively secure as possible. You will learn what to stock up on, what skills you should endeavor to acquire, and what actions you must take to give your family a chance at surviving the disaster and chaos that may strike at any time. If you live out in the country this book may be useful to you, but it is intended for those of us who live in or near cities. We don’t have wells for water. We don’t even usually have backup electrical power, or a large garden, or chickens. We are dependent on a centralized utility and food distribution network that can and does fail. To date those failures have been temporary, though some have gone on for weeks or months. Failures have been local or regional and folks living there knew help was coming from “outside.” But what if help isn’t coming? What if you have nowhere to go that is more safe and secure than your own home? What if bridges are down or highways clogged with stalled vehicles and you are forced to stay home? How would you provide for your family? How would you protect them?
If you have ever entertained those questions, this is the book for you.
What if a major catastrophe, such as an economic crash, EMP, or other natural and/or manmade disaster comes your way, and you are completely dependent on…you? How would you fare out? This book is geared towards those in the cities and suburbs, who for whatever reasons choose to stay there during chaotic times (i.e. “bugging in”). It will help to guide you in ways to prepare for the worst, BEFORE the worst comes your way.
The author focuses on the areas of communication, water, power and light, sanitation and hygiene, food (including production, foraging, storage and preparation), security, alternative economic systems (including bartering goods and skills), transportation, shelter, first aid, and something few think about but that is utterly important in times of distress – entertainment to keep up morale.
The author provides many method and product suggestions, based on his research and personal experiences, with numerous links to save you the time of searching them out. Being a “prepper” before the term came to be, White’s recommendations ring true to my personal experiences.
With over 300 pages, “Bugging In” is so thorough it could easily replace the dozens of prepper/survivalist type books on my shelf. This book should be more than read – it should be applied. And while the sky may not be falling quite yet, there is no better time than now to start the implementation outlined in this book. Believe me, your family will thank you for it.
I read this ebook through a promotion by the author. Bugging In is the most readable book on prepping that I have read. Mr White writes in a conversational style, mixing solid information with examples of his own experience. He has done all the comparisons one should ever need in most categories ; he states his own experience with the item & the efficiency and cost as well. This is the most useful ebook as well; he gives links to many products & where they are available! There are items & projects for every budget & skill level. I highly recommend this book as my #1 resource preppers guide!
Raymond Dean White has done a remarkable job breaking down what most people tend to overlook, how to stay safe and prepared when disaster strikes and you’re stuck in a suburban setting. Unlike many survival guides that focus mainly on wilderness or off-grid living, this book tackles real-world challenges faced by families who live in neighborhoods, rely on utilities, and have limited space.
What I loved most is how clear, realistic, and actionable the advice is. The author doesn’t just list supplies, he explains why they matter, and how mindset, planning, and adaptability can make all the difference. It’s written with the voice of experience and concern, not fear, which makes it both motivating and trustworthy.
