Now we know what happened with the other heroes whilst the turtle's incident, I really feel a little bit of pity for all the other heroes, Montsuya was leaving alone by his party, all the companion of Ren were muerdered and Itsuki is crazy. The alchemist is really interesting and what Raphtalia said while they are at the slave's shop I really cant belive that Naoufumi doesn't know how much Raphtalia loves him.

Work was slightly nightmarish. Sleep is important! These are still good though.

At this point, I'm wondering why I'm still reading the series.
I almost just straight DNF'd this book a few times, while it's encompassing one single battle - I'm finding it very hard to keep still with One Peace's translation. Some errors are obvious enough that makes me wonder if it really went through the proper rounds of editing.

The pacing of the book was quirky at the beginning of the series, but it's starting to aggravate me now. I'm really just reading now to know what happens.

I really loved this light novel it picked up right where volume 6 left off the story was action packed the whole way through I really enjoyed reading about these characters again. I really loved the characters especially Naofumi and his group I really like how they act around each other I just really like the characters there is never a dull moment when they are around. The other characters are interesting as well I really liked the new character Ost a gentle soul that just needed help to finally end the monster they were trying to defeat. I really liked the plot it picked up right where it left off with Naofumi and the rest searching for the other heroes some bad things happen the monster is back so they now have to find a way to put it down for good so many interesting things happen along the way and I am looking forward to reading volume 8.

This is different from the Manga.

I like this better than the way it played out in the Manga and the anime. Noafumi is actually starting to get a bit less jaded and is more trusting. Yea!

I’ve gotta say, the disappearance of the other three heroes is the best thing that could’ve happened. I mean, not having to deal with three idiots is so refreshing! And despite their disappearance being a big blow to the chances of surviving the future Waves, it makes things easier in regards to growing stronger.

Or at least it should.

They aren’t able to train as much as they should because they have to spend most of the day searching for the heroes, but that doesn’t stop the countdown to the next Wave. So while they’re wasting time looking for the heroes, they’re losing out on training opportunities. Man, even when they’re not around, the other heroes are a burden!

And that’s not even the worst thing Naofumi and his friends have to deal with. The Spirit Tortoise returns! How? No one knows, but now Naofumi and his party are tasked with dealing with the resurrected beast and the familiars that have spawned from its reappearance. One of those familiars, Ost, appears before Naofumi, claiming that the Spirit Tortoise has returned due to nefarious machinations of an unknown person. And she requests that they defeat this person in order to bring down the Spirit Tortoise for good.

It was great to see some of his party grow the way they did, and I’m glad the Queen is playing such a big role in the story. With her needing to run a country, I didn’t expect her to around as much as she’s been but I love her character, so her presence is always a bonus for me. But, back on the growth of Naofumi’s party. It’s a sight to see some of his friends come into their own, and the fights in this Volume are so hectic! You never really know if everyone will make it out of any given fight, especially when the enemies they face keep getting stronger. Kyo was an…interesting villain. If you’ve seen anime villains before, then you’ve seen Kyo; he’s a pretty standard villain if I’m being honest, but seeing how everyone deals with him is the best part of this Volume. The fallout/ramifications of this battle will definitely be felt for Volumes to come.

I hope this doesn’t become something like One Piece where power levels are difficult to measure. I feel like Luffy keeps facing the “strongest” enemy time and time gain. I hope that’s not the route Shield Hero takes. I don’t think it will, especially when it’s at it’s best when the fighting isn’t the main focus oddly enough. These characters are just so interesting that watching them row and interact is my favorite things about the series.

The Rising of the Shield Hero, Volume 7 continues the new story arc that began in Volume 6. The end of the last book made it pretty clear that things were far from over with this latest threat. And that’s 100% what Volume 7 is about: dealing with the latest threat. I hope you enjoyed the world-building in the last book because there’s very little room for more of that here. This entire book is just one massive fight scene. It was almost like an overly long shonen story arc.

Now, the issue is basically what the series is now compared to what it was. The big draw for me initially was how Naofumi was the underdog. The world sucker-punched him in the gut, and he resolved to get through it through his own grit. And then, he did that. We’re past it now. He still has his allies but is now bolstered by national support since the other heroes have fouled things up so badly by this point. He’s not the underdog anymore. Which, I mean, I’m not saying he should have wallowed in misery forever, but things turned around pretty completely for him fast. Even if the whole experience did leave him pretty jaded.

Maybe it’s more the translation than anything else, but the writing in this series has always just been ok. I don’t want to call it bad but it’s very…direct. The ideas are there but they’re not being handed to the reader so much as thrown at them. Since this volume is just a fight and not many new ideas are introduced, it struggles to hold up to the previous volumes. Yeah, we get to meet the new bad guy but he’s so generic. Basically, just your standard cocky villain. And Rishia gets a big character development moment at the end but that’s kind of it. Everyone else is just doing their usual thing here.

This is very much a transition point in the current story arc. It’s not the most exciting part of the story but it does need to happen to bridge the more interesting bits together. The epilogue was extra neat too and shows that things are going to pick back up in Volume 8. I’m just hoping at this point that Shield Hero doesn’t jump the shark the way a lot of other long-running series do eventually. Here’s to hoping.

I'm finally kicking this series up to four stars. These books seem to have more and more typos and I still hate how the dialogue is done, but I do think the writing itself is improving.

I enjoyed the new character of Ost and she felt like she fit in well with Naofumi--more than Rishia, that's for sure. It was great to learn even more about the world and its lore, as well as see more hints of what's to come with the true nature of the Waves.

The big obstacle in this book was quite difficult to deal with, but I loved seeing Naofumi and his friends rise to the challenge and I enjoyed them needing to puzzle things out. It felt like a realistic way to deal with the problem and kept the tension high.

It had an emotional ending as well, while also ending with a cliffhanger. I really enjoyed this volume.

As for the bonus story, I do wish they would specify whose POV it is in from the start, and even a slight timeframe would be nice--especially if the story starts during a previous volume. I did enjoy the actual story itself and it was nice to finally get some real info on Glass and the rest (the POV being hers).

Overall, while Raphtalia and Filo don't get much in the way of meaningful interactions, this is a great volume, with plenty of action mixed in with learning more about the world. The ending is impactful and also marks another shift in the series. I'm excited to see what's next.

Just had a hard time getting into this particular volume. I think part of it was just a hard time staying awake and so only being able to read 5-10 pages at a time which doesn't usually work for a novel. Even so, I just didn't really get into it. Which is quite sad because not having to deal with the 3 assha... I mean other heroes should have been an extremely pleasant experience.

I am not sure why people the characters were surprised by the big 'reveal' when it was told to them repeatedly throughout the book. I am glad that we might get to see Nao and friends working with L'arc and Glass and Therese in the future. I personally would like to see the characters we already have to get used than constantly being bombarded with new ones.

Anyhow -- the premise I still like, I just hope the delivery pans out in book 8 better than 6 or 7 has for me -- but I'll be reading something else for a couple of books taking a vacation from the Shield Hero.

As volume 6 ended on a cliff hanger, I decided to dive fast into volume 7.

If you merged the first part of book 6 and the last part of book 7, you'd get a pretty solid volume. This book covers a single battle, from start to ... an open ending like 6... which annoyed me!

The value of this series has always been how imaginative and fresh the storytelling is. The writting quality has always been poor, and the nature of the volume (a neverending battle) just makes it painful to suffer through to get to the next part of the story.

In summary, you get to learn a bit more about the overarching story, you get to know what happened to the other heroes, and it introduces the 2 next big things. Not the best in the saga, not the worst

Fully action-packed volume this time as the Shield Hero faces his strongest threat thus far, with a little unexpected help.

The series gets more interesting with this volume, but the character development involving all the newer characters and the secret assistant kinda felt a bit rushed, so the emotional impact fell flat for me.

Translation quality improved a little bit with this volume, but it is still very hard to recognise who's dialogue it is sometimes. This quite a problem throughout the series so far, especially since the author's only POV is the Shield Hero and many parts are really his monologues and biased observations of each character.

Most of this, the seventh book in the series, as well as the later parts of the previous volume is spent telling the story of the Sheild Hero's battle with the Spirit Tortoise. To be honest, I didn't really enjoy this fight. I spent most of the book thinking it was time to drop this series. Then towards the end, the real enemy was revealed and we got a more traditional Sheild Hero fight, a fight which reminded me why I liked this series so much to start with. So maybe I'll read the eighth volume as well.

This series is so much better when the other three heroes are not present. The story felt more focused without them. The fight against the Giant Tortoise concludes and some sacrifices are made. A new villain presents themselves as well. Glass and company are seen in a new light. This volume did a lot to liven things up and has me excited for the next volume in a way that I wasn't for this one.

With the other three heroes out of the way and especially the way we find out just where they were. I just can't wait for the next volume to see if they finally start looking at themself or if they keep pointing fingers to naofumi.
The villain this volume is also interesting a pattern I am noticing are the cliffhangers at the end... so volume 8 here I come.

More on the action side this time, Main Character still a prick even to people he has trust in. Epilogue alone raised the rating by one star, man that was so sad.
