The Maxfield Brothers #1

The Billionaire's Tenacious Boss

Rate this book
Stephen Maxfield has the chance to save the business his father built, and only one woman stands in his way.

With Duncan Enterprises crumbling, Stephen Maxfield knows that a lucrative building contract could be the ticket to saving the family company. He’s always been regarded as the unpredictable brother, and this time is no different. He’s prepared to do what he thinks is right—even if it means ousting his own father. Stephen faces another obstacle, however, in the form of Angelia Lopez, the gorgeous Duncan VP with her own plans to save the company.

Angie Lopez has been groomed as Duncan’s successor, and she’s convinced that selling off pieces of the company is the way to save it. She’s busy making deals to break apart the business, while hoping that it brings together the Maxfield family. But when she comes up against Stephen Maxfield—all six feet eight inches of him—she’ll have to work harder than ever to keep her focus. Angie’s been burned by men in the past, and Stephen sets her aflame.

Stephen has no time for romance, and Angie is on a dating time-out. But if the two can see beyond their business plans, they just may find they’re the perfect match.

New to Leslie? Readers suggest starting with 'The Bossy One' (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C6BP3BBF) —Imagine a sunny Minnesotan Mary Poppins, employed by a grumpy Irish billionaire. The story is a blend of humor, revenge, passion, heartbreak, hope, and witty banter. As one reader put it, ‘This story had me squealing at the romantic moments and silly moments.’

Leslie North is the USA Today Bestselling pseudonym for a critically-acclaimed author of romantic comedies and contemporary romance. The anonymity allows her to fully express her creativity, especially in the romantic and fun sexy scenes!

In fact, she confesses to loving her fictional persona, Leslie North, more than her everyday self! Her bestselling books are known for their strong characters, particularly women who aren’t afraid to challenge an alpha bosshole. And the humor? So infectious, you’ll be laughing out loud in public!

Leslie’s love for romance began when she picked up a worn-out romance book from her local library. She started writing soon after, and as they say, the rest was history. She now resides in a cozy cottage on the British coast, enjoying long walks with her two Dalmatians, George and Fergie.

There is nothing sexier than a man who loves his family. Stephen may be cocky, frustrated and have a chaotic life, but his affection for his son is obvious. The matchmaking ex was hilarious and his ball busting boss was the star of the show. With her power suits and take charge attitude Angie broke down stereotypes and drew attention. The elevator scene set the stage for a heated battle of the sexes. I have been a fan of Ms. North for quite a while am loving her stories that feature women who are not afraid to be aggressive. After years of women needing to be rescued, it's great to see them become their own saviors.

There is a reason why Leslie North will always be one of my favorite authors. She writes enthralling stories filled with characters that stay with you even after you are done with the book. The Billionaire's Tenacious Boss, the first book in the Maxfield Brothers Series is filled with family drama, attraction, sexual tension, and so much more. The author draws you into the story from the beginning and keeps you turning the pages until the very end.

An ARC of this book was provided in exchange for an honest review.

The Billionaire's Tenacious Boss was a fun read that became a little tedious after a while. I loved the storyline of tough professional female vice president of a company that doesn't let the men push her around. However, she also doesn't turn into a complete ball buster just because she's a woman in a male dominated position. This I love. She not only has to deal with the president pushing her, but also the 3 sons who just happen to be majority share holders in the company.

These men all have a terrible relationship with one another and the one common denominator is their father. Duncan has always put his company at the forefront of his life and although successful in business he let it ruin his family. Now, Duncan seems to be running the company into the ground and the 3 boys are coming together to fight for their birthright and fight their Dad in the process.

Stephen seems to have the biggest chip on his shoulder when it comes to his dad but he hits it off with Angie right away. The other brothers seem to have their guard up thinking she's their dad's spy but Stephen just knows that she can be trusted. I really enjoyed their relationship. It was hot but rational. Angie didn't let Duncan push her buttons and drive a wedge between what she wanted and what was right and she didn't let anyone make her feel like she wasn't worthy of the position she was given.

Not Your Typical Boss/Employee Office Romance. I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom. This was my first experience with a Leslie North audiobook. I have several of her ebooks, but don't have time to sit and read with my actual eyes, so when I was presented with a chance to listen to one, I jumped at the chance. This was also my first time listening to Connor Brown as a narrator and loved his voice. It was very pleasant to listen to and he did a great job bringing the characters and story to life by his performance. The story and narrator were so engaging that I am eager for the next two books. This audiobook was a perfect length for a shorter listen.

Business or pleasure?

The Maxfield brothers attempt to save their father's company only to discover someone is trying to kill it. Angie is senior VP and expects to be CEO when their father retires. She and Stephen are definitely in lust for one another. Will this help or hurt the situation?

The Billionaire’s Tenacious Boss

This is a good contemporary romance. The successful family business is failing and the family has to find out who and why it’s happening. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

The manipulation of the father in the lives of his sons borders on obnoxious, and yet, l believe that it is done with good intent.
I enjoyed the change of pace this book afforded me. IT was a romance, hidden beneath the layers of business and family relationships. Yes an enjoyable read.

Stephen and Angela

Good book about power and dealing with it. Stephen was a big part of power and Angela was overcome with love for him.

I have to say, this is not one of my favorites. For me, it was too much drama. Waaaay too much drama. Now, if you like that kind of thing, this book is for you.

First, you have Gabe, the middle child, who has been with the company forever. He is never acknowledged by his father, Duncan, who owns the company. He is overlooked for the position of Senior VP by Angie Lopez, a woman who isn’t even related to the Maxfield’s.

Next, there is Stephen, the eldest, who has a business of his own to run, Maxfield Construction. Gabe calls Stephen to help with Duncan Enterprises and when he does get there, there is tension between them. And on top of that, Duncan Enterprises out bids Stephen on about 75% of his contracts, so his business is not as strong as it should be. Would he really want to help save a company that takes his business??

And last, there is Nathan, the youngest. He has a double major in Environmental Science and Design. He wants the company to go green and every time he mentions this to his brothers, they never take him seriously. The brothers each have their own ideas on how to save the company, but are unwilling to work together for a solution.

Then you add in the addition of a woman, Angie Lopez, a very strong woman and that makes even more drama. She has been with the company for ten years and is trying to save the company.

So, where is the romance story? When I read a romance story, I want to read about a romance. Yes, there is instant attraction between Stephen and Angie. Yes, there are sexy parts in the book, but I just didn’t feel the connection between the two. There was hardly any dialog between them except for when they were arguing about the company and whether or not she wanted to go “public” with their relationship. It does have a HEA, which is a plus.

I was given an ARC by the author for an honest review.

This is the first book in the Maxfield Brothers series.

Duncan Maxfield owns Duncan Enterprises. He is egotistical and controlling. He has three sons, Stephen, Gabe and Nathan.

Stephen is the oldest. He is divorced with a 10 year old son. He and his ex-wife are on good terms. He owns his own company, Maxfield Construction, and his company is in direct competition with his father’s. He is a very tenacious man.

Gabe is the middle child. He stayed on at his father’s company after college.

Nathan is the baby. He is a go green architect who wants to convert his father’s company.

Angela Lopez is Senior VP of Duncan Enterprises. Her mom was injured in a car accident and she helped finish raising her siblings, and is very close to them. She is a take charge, independent, no nonsense woman, and I love that she has curves!

When Duncan Enterprises starts tanking, Gabe calls in his brothers for help.

Stephen and Angela meet and instant attraction. Love the elevator scene! She’s worked hard to work her way up the ladder. These two butt heads frequently. The chemistry and sexual tension with these two grabs you.

I loved the character development in this story. The characters are likeable and you want to know more about them. I would have liked to see how Angela and Stephen balance their lives. I hope we see and learn more about their ongoing lives in the next book.

I look forward to the next in the series!

I loved the first of the Maxfield brothers. Stephen is the oldest of the brothers and has not been a part of the family business in 10 years, but a call from his brother Gabe has him coming home to see how he can help. What Stephen didn't count on was Angela Lopez, Angie, the Senior VP of Duncan Enterprise, his family's or father's company. While the two don't trust the other neither can deny the chemistry between them. The more time spent together, the more Duncan's plans for the company butt with what the family actually wants to see happen and all of them will do whatever it takes to save all aspects of the company. A chewing out by Angie to Duncan sees them pulling together to save the company because the company is what the people make of it not the other way around. Angie has always wanted to be at the top, but soon realizes the top will get very lonely without someone to share it with and wants that someone to be Stephen. Stephen knows he has baggage in the form of an ex-wife, a son and being more like his father than even he wants to admit, but he knows his future includes Angie. I loved the latest from Leslie North.

I have been given this book as an ARC for a honest review.
The main characters of this wonderful story are Duncan, Stephen, Gabe, and Nathan Maxfield and Angie Lopez. Angie is the senior VP of Duncan Enterprises. A meetings has been called of the board members and Stephen and Nathan have been called to attend by their brother Gabe. The company is losing money and Duncan wants to sell one of the other sections of the company. Not knowing who Angie is, Stephen hits on Angie in the elevator. Angie believes Stephen in one of the construction workers of the company, being as he is dressed in jeans and a work shirt. Maxfield is a very disfunctional family. Once they are at the family home, they all start in with their comments to each other. Ever since Duncan's wife died, she held them all together, Duncan became a work aloholic. He'd miss every important event in his boy's lives. The men have thought very little of their father. Stephen is falling for Angie. She likes him, but keeps telling him that he's her boss and it's not ethical. Stephen tells her he's not, that he has his own company.
Once, you start reading, it's hard to put the book down.

Fabulous new start to a brand new series. I found it quite enticing and very hard to put down.
Rich well to do men and there broken lives and relationships, they sink there whole being into there work lives to the detriment of all relationships, The Maxwell men fall firmly into this category and there father Duncan has been a very good teacher, they hate him and the way he was, but don't realise they are him in there own ways.
Stephen Maxwell needs to come home and help the failing business and in the process he meets Angie, she is a very strong feisty business woman that knows what she wants, Angie has had to work twice as hard to prove herself.

Angie attracts the attention of Stephen even before she know who he is, Stephen knows he's in trouble but he just can't help himself.
In the long run the family heals.

A wonderful love story. No cliff hanger. Excellent lusty scenes.

3.5 The Billionaire's Tenacious Boss Stars

I quiet enjoyed this first installment.
Stephen is a man with many sides. And I am glad he got to see that he was becoming his father without know it but he found a way to let work be work and family be family.

Angie as well all about the work and I wouldn’t say forgets her family but maybe forgets what’s really important in life.

I love that these two find each other and really make a connection.

I loved the way they meet; right then and there I knew it was going to be a fun book to listen to.

Hmmm What can I say about the narrator.. Yum :)

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Stephen and his two brothers are trying to save their family business, too bad their father wants to see it be sold off and be done with it.
Maria is slated to be the next CEO of the company and has fought to prove she has what it takes, not to mention fight the rumors that she got where she is by lying on her back.
Stephen and Maria are both leery of relationships, especially in the workplace, but can't deny the attraction. I loved the chemistry between the main characters, and watching the story unravel as to what's really going on wig the Patriarch of the family. Great read, and I can't wait to read more of this series!

Received ARC this is my honest review
This is a slight departure from the usually books the author writes. One it is longer and two it goes more into the development of the relationship as opposed to the plot line. The plot line wasn't as meaty as her other stories but it was still very well down and the relationship between Stephen Maxfield and Angela Lopez is a worthy read. Both characters are headstrong and spirited and have issues that each other helps solves. They are a perfect fit even though neither wants to admit it. I really enjoyed this

This is the first book in the Maxwell brothers series. In this book we get the background of how three brothers are brought together by the sudden possibility of their father ruining the family business. In this book the oldest son Stephen who himself is a business owner tries to help his brothers save the company, in turn he falls for the current VP soon to be CEO. Lots of drama!

Leslie North writes Billionaires and Shiekh's like nobody's business!! This book has a little twist to it and it made for a very interesting read. Never stand in a woman's way to get where she wants but never under estimate a man's desire for what he wants either!!

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I really enjoyed the story. I had previously listened to Book 2 before Book 1. Didn't really make a difference. Leslie did a great job with the story and the characters. I didn't really care for the narrator. He rushes his words and then stops. Very disturbing. I sped up the pace of the audio, just to get through it. While doing that, I wasn't really able to concentrate on the story as well as I wished I could have. Oh well, I will just have to add him to my list of narrators not to listen to. He wasn't as bad as some. I can listen to him, if I have to. Some I can't even listen to. Some others make my stomach ache. Still, Leslie North is a very talented writer.
