The Haunting of Waverly Hall

Rate this book
For a hundred years, people have moved out of Waverly, but not in... The reason? It's haunted. Especially the old town hall. When Rachel returns to Eliza begging for her help, Eliza agrees to use her “gift” to help Rachel redeem her past. Rachel takes her to the small, long-abandoned town of Waverly, where the few remaining houses hold a terrible secret that killed Rachel’s friend many years ago. All of the houses seem interconnected, especially the old town hall, where the most frightening hauntings occur. Eliza unravels the town’s hidden past while trying to avoid the fate of Rachel’s friend. She discovers why the hall is haunted — but understanding a ghost’s reasons for being aren’t always enough to get it to stop, especially when it’s addicted to sick and horrific behaviors. Her friends Robert and Granger help, but there’s no guarantee they can conquer the ghosts of Waverly Hall. The Haunting of Waverly Hall is the sequel to The Haunting of Pitmon House.

So happy that after the odd beginning (which makes sense a bit later on) the story just picked up the pace from there. I really enjoyed the story. Would like to get to know the characters a little more in depth. But the pace, the interesting concepts with a touch of gore, the paranormal side of the story - it just add up to a well-written, very entertaining series. Am definitely getting the next one ASAP.

Good book that draws you in and doesn't let go

Good and enjoyable read. It definitely helped me to have read the first book in this series in order to understand some elements of it, but not an absolute necessity. I enjoyed the continuing story of Rachel's exploration into who she is, and what her strengths are within the river and beyond.
My only complaint is that though the first 3/4 of the book was well paced, however, it really felt to me that the two big showdowns so to speak, felt rushed and almost two easy. I honestly thought for a second that a couple of pages were missing at the end of the chapter about the shaman's house in the forest.
All in all I liked this book. The story was interesting and unique and I was never bored with it. I look forward to reading the next book.

Loved it

Would definitely recommend. Highly enjoyed it as much as the other stand alone books. Now it's time to read the series. I hope it's just as good!

Waverly Hall

Think twice before doing a favor for your "bestie"!

Eliza is still coming into her prime in 1998, and Rachel knows even better what Eliza is capable of then Eliza does herself. The two had worked together and became good friends until Rachel was severely hurt trying to help rescue Eliza's brother Shane. After that, Rachel just disappeared from the hospital, her job and her friends. Even being extremely elusive, Rachel is able to convince Eliza she needs her help to find out more about her friend Marc's death so she and his family can move on. Figuring it won't be timely or difficult, Eliza agrees to get this done. When will Eliza learn not to trust Rachel!

Rachel drags Eliza to small town Waverley, which is inhabited by more dead than living. Upon arrival, Eliza senses that Marc is not dead, and they take off to where he was last seen. This is where the trouble begins! Rachel made a deal with a demon ghost that if she brought him a gifted person who would feed his minions, he would return Marc to her. After being kidnaped and enchanted, Eliza turns to her boyfriend, Robert and his dad Granger, who are both gifted, for help. Once again, Rachel disappears, leaving Eliza to battle for her life and soul. Time is running out for Eliza, in more ways than one!

Once again the author takes reoccurring characters and builds an original, and exciting plot line. Each of his characters develops a life of their own and it is incredible to watch how they have evolved from book to book. I am always impressed as to how the author maintains congruency of characters, events, and locations especially now that the various interconnected series collection tops more than 20 books to date. I also enjoy that these books are filled with good old fashioned scary, gory, paranormal stories that are not based on a romantic relationship that is doomed from the beginning. Matter-of-fact, if you're looking for sex scenes, look elsewhere. Being the 2nd book in a sub-series, it is easy to delve right in without feeling lost. As a bonus, the first five chapters of the original book, "The Bank of The River" is also included. Looking for some great reading material over the winter, hunker down and load up on the rest of Richan's work, you won't be sorry!

Whole bunch of gruesome fun.
A younger Eliza still has much to learn and some she's learning the hard way. We open with the reappearance of Rachel. She needs Eliza's help in this sad broken town. Being the sweet lady she is, she gives up her vacation time to head to Waverly and help Rachel.
Pretty much once they get started in Waverly, the "fit hits the shan". Thank goodness for Granger and Robert, and a few of their friends.
Mr Richan really knows how to spin a yarn. The imagery puts you in the scene. He creates characters that are so rich and likeable that each new book is like visiting with friends. Keep up the good work sir!

Another excellent book

Great characters, a world that you can imagine being real. I thoroughly enjoyed the second book in this series. I can't wait for more. One of the best authors in kindle unlimited. Read in one sitting.

I liked the first book in this series so I decided to read this one. It started out great and the book was good, however I really dislike blatant cliff hanger endings and this was one of the worst I've seen in books. I will not be continuing unfortunately.
