One word......Dragon's !!! I feel like Mushu in Mulan !! D-R-A-G-O-N peeps !!!!
Need I say more ?.....okay mystical. This is 3 main book series, then 4 novella tales.
The first 3 books follow Jinji and Rhen. Then the novella's follow Princess Leena. Its a completely different fantasy world !!
I really liked it, it did take a bit to chomp through the series, but the endings were quite the page turner so I was more than happy to oblige.
If you enjoy fantasy and a little paranormal mix then this ones for you. Well done Kaitlyn and many thanks for this opportunity x

This series was amazing. I felt alive with each character and especially the dragons. The main characters in the series are just like normal humans but hold something special within them that had to be kept hidden unless they were discovered and put to death.
Follow them along - a third prince on fire with a reputation as a womanizer & gambler or is he; a young boy or perhaps a young girl who has seen the weaving of the spirits and can manipulate their weaves masking appearances of anything so that what you see may not necessary be what you get; a princess from a very cruel kingdom ruled by her father - will she escape her fate when she is sunk to the bottom of the ocean or does fate have a plan of it's own; a tall lanky young man who has very little confidence in himself and also still loves to play with dirt; and last but not least, "The Thief" who steals as quickly as the whisper of the wind. So grab your hot tea, a lap blanket and curl up in your favorite reading spot. Prepare yourself to enter another world where shadows don't need the sun to be exposed, where mythical creatures (dragons) must find a way to bond with their human riders as they learn who and what they are in order to save the world of the living from the darkest shadow who is bent on destroying it or maybe the shadow isn't really the bad guy....
(I do wish to add that this series has some violence and some detailed violence and I believe should not be read by younger readers - PG13)

I'll put individual reviews on each book, but here's my overall feeling.
I loved Leena - she was hands down my favorite and the one I connected with the most. Through her side novellas (and her interactions in the main books), it gave the story a different feel.
The main books focused so much on Rhen and Jinji's relationship; not necessarily the romantic elements of it, but of the two as a whole. Leena mentions at one point how odd it is to see one without the other and I think that's a fair statement. By the end of Book 3, despite their various trials, they are no longer individuals but two halves of one whole.
Leena's perspective however gave a broader idea of what the vision Rhen and Jinji wished to create could effect, especially for the Ourthuri.
Meanwhile as to the main storyline, I enjoyed it. It was quickly paced and while it got a bit repetitive reading the same scene from two (or three, if you count Leena's novellas) different view points, I appreciated the deeper understanding it gave each character.
Some common issues arose (miscommunication, misunderstanding, etc), but at the least they all admitted they could have screwed things up worse if they didn't work past that stuff quickly.

great new world that unfolds slowly
I loved the characters and the cultures, the problems and challenges they faced and the way they were overcome. I loved the camaraderie and the gray areas of people with some good traits and some unfortunate weaknesses. I could have down with a few less repetitions of the on-the-fence musings, but overall I totally enjoyed the series. Glad I got the novellas, also.

Exceptional writing
I lived this story line. The only drawback I could find was that you have to by the whole series to get a happy ending for the main characters. None of the book have a ending on their own except the last two.

Oh my word! This book! A Dance of Dragons contains three novels and four novellas and I loved every single word. A story full of hope and loss, love and despair and above all, knowing no matter how bleak the situation is, you are not alone.
The plot was fantastic. Two lost souls are drawn together and find first friendship, then love in each other. Both have secrets: both have powers. Rhen is a fire spirit and Jinji can control all the elemental spirits. Their gifts take them to far off places as they struggle to free the world from the Shadow – not an easy task when it is tethered to someone Jinji loves. The power struggles, the danger, the love… Every element of this plot made me squeal.
If the plot was fantastic, the characters were phenomenal. Rhen is rash and stubborn and cares far too much for his people. Jinji is lost but full of strength. Leena (a water spirit) is the focus of the novellas and she too is a conflicted character that leaves the reader feeling anything is possible if it can be dreamt.
The relationships and interactions between the characters was great. Rhen and Jinji’s developing romance shows how they grow as individuals as well and even the friendships and family bonds cannot be underestimated.
The second novel was the strongest for me, mainly because I loved the transition between friendship to romance. Jinji’s character in the third went to the extreme where she became all powerful. With the other characters calling her out on it, it didn’t become annoying, but I preferred her when she showed her vulnerable side to Rhen and trusted him.
The change in narration was great for character development. Sometimes it felt too much overlapped and you got too much of the same scene again from a different perspective. Seeing the course of events from Leena’s view in the novellas, however, really created her character and made her contribution in the novels far more meaningful.

This series was AMAZING! The depth of the story line and the characters kept me overly engaged the entire time. I felt like I couldn't read fast enough! Each of the characters felt unique and yet unforced: their stories authentic.
At first I felt the dragon portion seemed out of left field and unnecessary, but as the story was woven as a whole, I think the pacing was just a bit off. The first novel was slow compared to its other two counter parts. The second two books were definitely plot drivers.
Leena's novella's were my favorite part. I feel like Leena's voice could have been entered into the original story without a loss of what was going on. We even potentially could have gotten more from her and her cause. Leena's message was the one I identified with and cheered for.
I am now left trying to decide which of the author's other series I'm gong to pick up next!

A good unique story
This is a series that is completely different than other dragon fantasy novels I have read, a mixture of romance, adventure, and magic. I truly enjoyed it. However the way it was written, from different characters perspectives caused a lot of redundancy in the telling, sometimes reading the same event happening from up to 3 differing views. I would have liked to have gotten to know the other 2 riders a bit more also. All in all it was worth reading.
