Dare Valley #10

Home Sweet Love

Rate this book
Chase Parker doesn’t believe in all that gushy home sweet love stuff.

Moira Hale sure as heck does.

Becoming a respected corporate executive of a billionaire enterprise is more enduring, according to Chase. He lost his home in a tragedy as a kid and doesn’t plan on building another one ever again.

But he finds himself stuck in small town Dare Valley recovering from a skiing accident—and in a home much like the one he lost. Moira is excited to have her first real home in addition to a fantabulous new job, working in tandem with Chase’s boss on a high-powered fundraiser.

She and Chase don’t have to worry about an office romance technically because they don’t work together. And so, while Chase is recovering, they decide to “hang out” and enjoy each other.

Neither anticipate how deep their feelings go. Chase certainly doesn’t expect to sift through the ashes of his past in order to heal and share his memories with Moira—or find comfort in all the things he’d locked away. But soon Chase discovers how sweet home can be…all the while falling in love.

Home Sweet Love is book ten in the Dare Valley series by Ava Miles. I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.

dare valley series ava miles:

We first met Chase Parker in the Dare Valley Meets Paris Billionaire series as Evan’s right hand man in Evan’s huge corporation. We knew that Chase was rich, loved Evan like a brother and kept him in line, and is an unstoppable force in Evan’s corporation. To work one hundred and twenty hours a week was the norm for him. But that’s all we know and I was excited that he was going to get his own book.

Chase is in Dare Valley for the huge fundraiser for Artemis that Moira and Evan are planning. There is a spark between Chase and Moira. Technically Chase isn’t her boss, Evan is. But still, anything between them could result in awkwardness. Because Chase doesn’t do relationships. First of all, he lives and works in Washington D.C. He travels internationally constantly for Evan. Plus, his one try at marriage ended horribly. Still, he can’t deny that there is something about this woman.

We learn that Chase also suffered a huge loss when he was just twelve years old. A loss that he has buried deep and kept that way. In his mind, by burying it, it has been dealt with. That is rarely the case, though, as Chase is soon to find out.

Moira Hale loves her job working for the Artemis Institute and for Evan. Planning this fundraiser is key to getting things off the ground. When Chase comes to town to participate in the final meetings before the event, she can’t deny she is attracted to him. But should she act on it? And really, she knows nothing about him.

After a rather heated meeting regarding the guest list for the fund raiser, Chase, Moira and Evan hit the slopes. Chase is an excellent skier, but something distracts him, something that brings back memories long since buried. And one distraction is all that is needed to lose his focus and that’s exactly what happened, causing an accident that would change Chases’s life, for the near future anyway.

Chase’s injuries keep him house bound for weeks, and during this time, the connection between he and Moira deepen and they agree to explore it with an expiration date in mind when Chase is healed and can go home. But sometimes, our feelings don’t agree with expiration dates.

smoking meat:

As a huge government contract that Chase has been working on is falling apart in front of his eyes, Chase is desperate for ways to speed his recovery. So he explores alternative methods of healing which all help in their own way. Chase is also forced to face his past and finally truly deal with the things he has kept locked away. Chase finds the most relief in the simplest things. He explores the art of smoking meat on a smoker, something he learned from his father when he was a boy. He finds great joy in cooking for people that are important to him. And he also finds the purring of a little tabby kitten relaxes him as nothing else has. When that kitten is on his lap, everything just seems better.

Orange Tabby Kitten:

We also get a little bit of Moira’s sister Caroline and a new character, J.T. Merriam. I really liked J.T. the little bit I got to know him and look forward to their story in The Sky of Endless Blue.

So, after all that, I have to say that I just never really fell in love with Chase. I think it’s just me because so far the other ratings for this book have all been high. I loved he and Moira together but just never really felt the connection the way I wanted to. I thought Moira was an incredibly strong woman but at times Chase came off a bit whiny. I was so excited about getting to know him better so it saddens me to be disappointed. He just didn’t work for me. Still, I look forward to the next book in the series and getting more of Caroline and J.T.

Great story

Now that was a great story, the author created great characters that are compassionate and loving. A story about. Juggling a corporate world business and finding love can be challenging. Sometimes things happen for a reason and have to step back, regroup, or reevaluate our lives when faced with a tragedy. Sometimes love is the only thing that can heal us and sometimes letting go and forgiving a past helps our love grow. This book was all that and more. Plus it gave a happy ending.

I look forward to reading more of the series.

If I could give this 3.5 stars instead, I would. Chase and Moira's story has all the feels readers have come to expect from an Ava Miles book. While enjoyable, it tended to drag in a few places so I can't say it's one of her best.

Excellent! Fast paced read! This book is a book on how to remove burdens that you have been carrying for a life time. It is a book about healing relations, healing hurts, and mending the heart. Another winner by Ava Miles!

Chase Parker is a hard working chief financial officer of Quid-Atch. He works non-stop for Evan Michaels, the inventor and owner of Quid Atch.
Moira Hale is the new director of the Artemis Institute of Innovation, a new company, also owned and created by Evan Michaels.
Moira is trying to have a by invitation only fun raiser for the Institute. This means inviting some of the potential competitors of Quid-Atch, which Chase does not want to happen. To lighten the pressure, they have all decided to go skiing. Chase loves the way Moira looks in her red ski outfit abut knows that he does not date. While skiing, Moira notices a thick black smoke and points it out to Chase. Chase immediately knows that someone's house is on fire and hopes that the fire department arrives quickly. Chase is greatly affected by the smoke and pushes off down the hill, not seeing the woman who is skiing right into his path. He cuts it close and goes out of bounds and down a hill. It was a good 50 foot drop, but Moira knew she had to go to Chase. Chase's arm and leg are not in natural positions, so Moira knows it is broken. Chase is happy that Moira came to help him.

With the arm and leg fractures, as well as a concussion, Chase cannot do his normal 80 hour work week with Quid-Atch. He is grounded and cannot travel, use a phone or a computer. He must stay in Dare Valley and recuperate, which he HATES.

Why did Chase fall? Did something distract him? How will he remain sane not being able to do the work that he needs to do. Will someone help him? Will he see Moira again?

Come visit Dare Valley and find the love that is spreading; the families that are growing, and the lives that are changing.

I have been really interested in Chase ever since he was first introduced back in the Billionaire series. Even though that focused on Evan, I was really drawn to the brotherly friendship between the two and wanted to learn more about the elusive Chase.

In this installment, he is forced to stay in Dare Valley while recovering from a skiing accident. Seeing Chase unable to work was clearly pushing him out of his element, but it does give him time to explore a relationship with Moira. I'll admit that I didn't really remember too much about Moira from previous installments, so it seems I need to go back and re-read the previous book to refresh my memory. Chase and Moira have always battled an attraction to one another since they sort of work together, but Chase's accident and rehabilitation give them the push they need to try out this relationship short term.

Chase had a tough past, and at times it was hard to watch him deal with those demons. That journey did make the end that much sweeter when he was able to let things go. I really appreciated Evan's support and loved that he gave Chase things he didn't even realize he needed. I actually loved the whole meat smoking pastime and thought was a unique element...that made me hungry. It was really nice to see Chase finally open up and be vulnerable with Moira. One of my favorite parts of the story was when she visited Natalie for advice. The two relationships had a nice parallel, and it was great to catch up with her and see her happiness.

I was really intrigued by JT and cannot wait to read more about him! He and Caroline seem like an adorable couple and I am now eagerly awaiting their story!

Another great story from Dare Valley. Chase and Moira are a power couple with great obstacles to overcome.

Chase Parker has the weight of the world on his shoulders. Or at least he thinks he does. As the right hand man and best friend to billionaire Evan Michaels and running the company for his best friend he knows he can't let them down. But an accident in Dare Valley brings his world to a screeching halt. With broken limbs and a concussion he can't work. And with this new project and benefit he feels helpless. A feeling he doesn't know how to cope with.

Moira Hale will be running Artemis..the new project of Evan and a part of his company Quid-Atch. But with her and Chase bumping heads at every turn she finds him stubborn and unbearable. Not to mention the feelings and attraction he makes her feel. Knowing they can never because they work together they blow it off until his accident.

WithChase chomping at the bit to heal and work, Moira spends time with him ultimately bringing their personal relationship to be. But Chase has some unresolved demons he has to deal with for them to have any chance at Home Sweet Love. Is he even built for it? Can she really settle with someone away from her home and family? Only time will tell.

Chase and Moira are disagreeing about who to invite to the fundraiser for Artemis' first fundraiser. Artemis is Evan Michaels pet philanthropy project. Chase runs Quid-Atech, the business that features all Evan's inventions, and Moira is head of Artemis which will be for future inventors. Chase can't believe that she wants to invite their competition to the dinner. Evan calls for a break and they go skiing. Chase keeps his past bottled up inside but it comes back to haunt him today.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed Chase and Moira's story. Moira is so funny and down to earth and Chase is really uptight. Watching Chase begin to open up and the way Moira was able to encourage him and realize that she was falling in love was an enjoyable journey. Each book in the Dare Valley series that comes out is my "favorite". When the next one comes out, that book becomes my "favorite". I love that you run into old friends in each book and even the setting is beautiful and feels like a place that makes you comfortable. I loved this book and I think you will to. It is a great way to escape and enjoy Dare Valley and its people!

I started this book and finished it within 2 days! I couldn't put it down because I loved reading about Chase and Moira. Ava has a way of developing her characters that makes you wish you lived in Dare Valley and knew them. I love Moira's strength and how she never left Chase behind, despite his bad attitude and pity party. I love Chase's story and how he learns to overcome his past and open up to Moira. I was teary-eyed every time he shared another layer of his past. I especially loved his nurse and the kitten he takes a liking to. Reading about their relationship develop was a trip through every emotion I have, but I loved every minute! What a great story that reminds me to keep my heart open and keep my sense of humor despite the circumstances.

Home Sweet Love continues to share the lives of all the people we've grown to love in Dare Valley. Moira appears to be a professional woman who has her life together while Chase's world seems to be falling apart around him. His resistance to let go of the past hurt and anger could very well cause him to lose the one woman who love him. Situations always look different when you're looking up from the bottom and that is exactly where Chase finds himself. Is his love strong enough to make him choose love over work? You'll have to read it to see!

Great job Ava! Love this book as much as all the others you have written. I can say this since I've read every book that you have published thus far.....

Home sweet love is Moria and Chase’s story. Chase had some issues in his past that made him a person who was against love. He meets Moria Hale and he is smitten with her from the start and her with him. Chase has a skiing accident and must stay in Dare Valley unable to work with nothing to keep him busy. Moria has learned not to let someone close themselves of after a traumatic event. She proceeds to visit him daily and things progress with them knowing as soon as he is healed he will be leaving town. Chase breaks her heart but then realizes he wants to settle down and enjoy life with another. I also enjoyed the lead in to Caroline and JT’s story. Can’t wait. Home Sweet Love = Mind, Body, Healing, and a Balanced Life

We can’t possibly have it all: a satisfying career; an inspiring, passionate love; and a family. Yet, we all want to live to the fullest, and we’re not able to do so without healing past hurts and maintaining a true mind/body/spirit balance.

In this latest installment of the Dare Valley series, Ava Miles brings the art of true healing to light for Chase Parker, CFO of Quid-Atch, a multibillion company. Thanks to an awful skiing accident in Dare Valley, Chase finds that there’s more to healing than just casts, bandages, medicine, inconvenient restrictions due to acquiring a bad concussion, and sick leave -- it was actually the universe reminding him to live an enjoyable life free from the pain of past hurts so that he can experience all the blessings of love. Chase needs healing: both the Western medical way, and holistic which understands that mind/body/spirit are intimately connected for us all, even strong and savvy menfolk long accustomed to being the anchor of a major corporation. Only afterward can Chase experience real love with Moira Hale, his match in every way; first, Chase must complete the healing process in its entirety.

Evan, CEO of Quid-Atch, manages to repay his debt to his long-term mentor, Chase by orchestrating a varied, consistent and all-encompassing approach to a healing program. In addition to following Dr. Andy Hale’s medical orders, and hiring a home care nurse, Evan uses his tech skills by making a plethora of adjustments to phone, laptop, and the rented cabin so that Chase truly heals. Bonnie, a.k.a. Helga, just so happens to have connections to the “alternative” medicine community, and so recommends an acupuncturist, a feng shui expert, and a healer/empath/psychic/energy reader named Ally. The only ingredient missing is love, and it’s not long at all before Chase discovers Moira Hale is more than a strong physical attraction for him: she’s the woman who completes him. Moira remains undaunted by Chase’s determination to take Quid-Atch to the next level while retaining the company’s integrity, and it’s Moira’s confidence that partly explains why Evan hired her to run Artemis, the foundation he created to assist promising new inventors with funding and resources to bring their innovations into being.

Moira stands her ground, yet knows when to actively listen and encourage Chase to be all he can be throughout his difficult healing process. With her background in Human Resources, Moira was uniquely qualified to remain true to herself even while she supported him through tough times. Chase had to learn to “let go” in order to heal, and before he and Moira can truly be together.
Healing is a painful process, but well worth it. Sometimes that means delving into past hurts that burdened us in ways we didn’t know they had, and learning to forgive others and ourselves. For driven, ambitious men such as Chase Parker, it also meant getting in touch with his nurturing side, something that Moira always knew he had in him. All of life is a journey, and sometimes those tough obstacles do help our strengths become honed as we choose to develop our character and remain open to opportunities that come to us.

For those of us who have been workaholics, take a page from Chase’s book and learn to find the mind/body/spirit balance in our lives so that we’re ready to have a love that’s inspiring and won’t stand in the way of our strong drive to succeed. Savor the small things in life, like the soothing purring of kittens, continuing hobbies that satisfy our souls, and taking time to really be in the moment with someone who loves us. Balance is key. Home Sweet Love: Dare Valley Book 10 is by Ava Miles. It is a fantastic book and one that is impossible to put down. Tissues are definitely needed while reading this book.
Chase Parker is the chief financial officer of Quid-Atch, a company that made billions with Evan Michaels inventions. Moira Hale is the new director of The Artemis Institution of Innovation which Evan was starting. It is a private institute to foster young inventors. They are in Dare Valley, Colorado where Artemis is going to be. They are discussing the fundraiser they are having. Chase disagrees with inviting Maurie Wallins, CEO of K-Barker, a competitive business. Chase hates Maurie because of his sneaky, underhanded, and sometimes offensive methods of doing business. He also seduced Chase’s ex-wife and she stole papers from Chase to give to Maurie. Evan knows about Chase’s ex-wife; but Moira doesn’t and it isn’t something you can bring up at a business meeting. He has to persuade Evan not to invite him. Evan decides to think about it and suggests they ski.
Evan and Chase are world-class skiers but have never skied together before. They with Moira who is also a great skier have fun on the first run. They go up for a second and Evan takes off first. Chase and Moira are talking when they see black smoke in the distance and see that it is coming from a residential area. The smoke brings back unwanted childhood memories to Chase and he abruptly starts skiing not seeing a young lady who is beside him. To avoid her, Chase swerves and out of control hits a fence and goes over a cliff. Moira skillfully skies down to help him and finds him unconscious. Having onlookers call for help, she stays with Chase so he is not alone. He regains consciousness but has a broken arm and a broken leg. When they get to the hospital, she insists her brother Andy care for him. After surgery for his arm and leg, they are going to keep Chase due to his head injury. He is not the easiest patient in the hospital. When he is released, Evan takes him to a house he rented for Chase and leaves him there with a nurse who comes in daily and Moira who is also there. Chase is forbidden to do any work at all and Evan uses his technological skills to make sure Chase has no phone, no TV (except sound), and no way to work. Moira helps keep Chase company.
What will come of the attraction the two have for each other? It wouldn’t work since they work together, would it? Will Chase work his way through his past? What is Maurie Wallins up to while Chase is housebound?

Chase Parker is a master of the universe type of guy. He runs a major defense contract for Evan Michaels - for both the US and their European partners. He lives to work and only sleeps 5 hours a night. So, when a terrible skiing accident leaves him with a bad concussion, a broken leg and a broken arm - and a sentence to not work at all and stay in Dare Valley - he believes he is in a special kind of hell. Evan works behind the scenes to help his friend - the brother of his heart - to heal from his painful past.

Meanwhile, Moira Hale, who was with Chase when he wiped out on the slope and remained with him throughout his hospital ordeal, finds Chase irresistible. As she and Chase spend time together during his convalescence, he decides he also finds her irresistible. But can Chase let go of his high-powered life to fit a woman into it, or is he just who he is: a master of the universe.

I enjoyed this one a great deal. Likable characters and decent character growth. I wish I had seen the changes that happened off page at the end to bring Chase from his position when he left her to the one that brought him back. That felt glossed over and didn't really answer my questions.

I also felt both Chase and Evan could have done more to emphasize to Moira (and Gary for that matter) that although legally they couldn't go into details, that they had first hand experience that their competitor behaved unethically on a regular basis. This was information that the others needed to know for their own protection. Saying "stay away from him" seemed uninformative, and they didn't even give Gary that much.

Chase has always taken care of everyone else and his business. After a skiing accident, he is unable to work and he may go insane. Moira has been attracted to Chase from the beginning, but she isn't sure that she should get involved with him. Once he is feeling better, he will be heading back to his old life. Neither can fight the attraction, but will love be enough. While recuperating, Chase is learning he has to deal with old hurts or he will not be able to move forward. Now that he is feeling better physically and emotionally, will he be able to have the kind of life with Moira that he envisioned or will he have to go back to his old empty existence?

This is another wonderful addition the Dare Valley series. I have read most of the books in this series and I think this is probably the best one yet. We previously met Chase in another series, Billionaire in Paris by the same author, and Moira is a Hale, who have been a part of Dare Valley for a long time. This is a fantastically sweet story and will leave you wanting more.

A terrific new chapter in the Dare Valley series!

Ms Miles has created another wonderful book in her Dare River series, bringing back glimpses of old favorite characters, as well as giving us insight into new ones. Dare Valley has been as much of a character as the people who live there…making me want to visit this fabulous place!

I cannot wait to see where she goes from here!

We first met Chase in the Billionaire series and I am glad that he now has his own story. Moira is the perfect match for him. Chase must learn that loss has to be dealt with eventually, no matter how deep you bury it, it comes back. As always, it's fun to catch up with characters in the series who we have become invested in. This is a story about healing, and it is told in true Ava Miles style.

Dare Valley

I can't believe how much I adore the characters in Ava Miles Dare Valley Series. In this one Moira Hale falls for Evan's CFO, Chase. Chase has a skiing accident and winds up stuck in Dare Valley. I especially love all of the approaches to healing, besides just medicine. Wouldn't mind trying a few of them myself.

You don't need me to tell you the plot of this book, you need to read it for yourself. Bravo again, Ava. This whole series is uplifting and inspired.

Ava Miles is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! This book makes you laugh out loud, like the part about the movie Magic Mike, makes you smile when a grown man remembers holding kittens in his coat when he was young and makes you think Ava's husband must be swoonworthy because of all of the romantic scenes!

Another 3.5 star novel. I think it was hard for me to feel their attraction; it seemed awkward, just like their first few attempts to 'connect.' The amount of money these families have at their disposal is a bit off-putting too. It seems hard to believe such wealthy people could really settle down in a small town. I do plan on reading the next one though. :)

Great story

This is the story of a hard-driving business man getting a reality check after a serious skiing accident. Chase and Moira had a lot of obstacles to overcome but with a willingness to change and the vision of a couple of friends it all worked out.

This book did not disappoint the reader. The reader followed the story of two people who would eventually get together. There were ups and downs, but Ava carefully described each of her characters.
I wanted to read fast to find out the ending.
