Cowboy Karma is book four in the Cowboy Cocktail series by Mia Hopkins.
In this book we meet Harmony Santos, Melody’s younger sister whom we met in the previous book. Harmony is an RN now and she working at a hospital in Bakersfield. She’s been dating the same guy for about a year, Frank, the hottest Dr. there is at the hospital. His family is wealthy and he has encouraged Harmony to make certain changes he felt would make her fit better. To dress a little differently, act a little differently. Harmony thinks he is the one so no one is more shocked than she is when Frank breaks up with her…on her birthday!
Harmony hops in her car and drives back to Oleander for a night out with her sister and the rest of the MacKinnons. It’s here that she runs into Lucky Garcia, a man who several years ago Harmony exchanged some kisses with but forgot all about after she moved away. This is most definitely NOT the same person she remembered. This is a man who obviously works out. He is huge, and strong, and oh so handsome. Maybe a one night stand is just what she needs to forget the pain for just a little while.
Lucky Garcia can’t believe the object of his teenage crush and many a young fantasy is here and in his arms. Lucky is a rodeo calf roper. But when he’s not competing, he’s living with his Mom and sister, helping them to pay the bills, keeping his brother’s tuition bills paid and saving so his sister can go to college. No matter how much he earns, it’s never enough.
Harmony is definitely attracted to Lucky. But she was with her ex for a full year. Rebound boyfriends don’t last. Isn’t it way too early to start something new with Lucky? Shouldn’t she be on her own for awhile? She can’t deny that the things Lucky does to her, the way he makes her feel, she has never experienced with anyone else. Nobody gets her the way he does.
I have really been enjoying this series. Lucky and Harmony had both experienced abandonment and betrayal in their lives and I couldn’t help but to hope they found a way to be together. As always, the sexy scenes are off the charts. Lucky and Harmony were perfect for each other. But is their timing all wrong? Or will they trust their hearts and take a chance? I am truly looking forward to the next book in the series, Cowboy Rising.
Harmony Santos’s boyfriend certainly had lousy timing when he chose the night of Harmony's birthday to call an end to their year long relationship. Harmony had thought things were perfect between herself, a nurse, and her doctor boyfriend but she was just so wrong.
Heading out to drown her sorrows Harmony finds herself at a bar and the next she knows a handsome cowboy is dancing with her. Harmony doesn't recognize Lucky Garcia but he's had a longtime crush on Harmony so he decides to make his move not knowing Harmony hasn't had that great of a day.
Cowboy Karma is the fourth book in the Cowboy Cocktail series by Mia Hopkins. Each of these are short reads that ooze sex between the main character and one hot and sexy cowboy that comes into her life. They can all be read as standalone books as each contain different couples and do not cross over with the other books.
Unfortunately this installment in the Cowboy Cocktail series wasn't my favorite at all. Still great writing by Mia Hopkins but I just found myself not really a fan of Lucky in the story. I think it started with his talking about his desires and how God created woman as if it was for his own sexual needs... just didn't seem right.
Overall, not my favorite couple of the series but I'm sure others would still like this one.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
Cowboy Karma is my first book by Mia Hopkins and let me tell you, Lucky's sexy self has made me a fan, I can't wait to go back and read the first three books in this series!
Harmony's boyfriend dumped her on her birthday. Out of nowhere, with no sign that it was coming. She thought they were good, that soon they would be taking the next step but now that's all gone. Instead of sulking she ends up having a one night stand with sex on a stick, Lucky. She's fresh out of a relationship so she couldn't possibly want more than a fling with him....could she? Lucky is a tie down roper with strong family ties. He helps support his family and put his siblings through college. He hopes to win the big show and be able to put a big chunk towards his sisters college plans. When he meets up with Harmony, the girl he once wanted more than anything, and gets a chance to have her for one night he jumps on it. But he knew one night would never be enough, he wants more but his responsibilities take him away from her. Not to mention he doesn't feel worthy of her, feels he's somehow beneath her. Can these two ever see eye to eye and make a go of it or will they deny their feelings and lose what could be the love of a lifetime?
I loved this book!! It's well written, kept me glued to my seat with it's steamy hookups with an underlying sweet romance. 4.5 stars
Cowboy Karma is book #4 in the Cowboy Cocktail series by Mia Hopkins. Although characters from previous books appear, each book can easily be read as a standalone. I adored book #3, Cowboy Player, and Cowboy Karma just slid into place right next to it. I love these books so much.
Surgical nurse Harmony Santos has just had her heart broken. Her boyfriend of the past year, Frank (aka Dr. Dreamboat) just broke up with her--on her birthday, no less. The real kicker is that Harmony has spent the past year taming her inner wild child in hopes of becoming the future Mrs. Dr. Dreamboat. The problem is, along the way, Harmony lost sight of who she really is and what truly makes her happy.
Lucero "Lucky" Garcia went to high school with Harmony and always had a huge crush on her. That crush intensified when the two of them shared a steamy make-out session two years ago. Prior to leaving their hometown, Harmony promised to call Lucky--but never did. Soon after, she met Frank. Lucky became a distant memory.
Hurt and confused on her birthday, Harmony comes home to Oleander to spend time with her sister. At the local bar, Harmony loses herself in dancing and drinking. But before she can leave, she's stopped by Lucky, who can't resist spending time with the girl of his dreams. Even though Harmony knows she's on the rebound and feels slightly guilty for using Lucky, the two of them have a smoking-hot one night stand. But it's not long before they start spending more time with each other and realizing how good they are together, not just in bed but outside of it as well.
I was not prepared for the depth of emotion with each character's back stories. After his father walked out on the family years ago, Lucky stepped up and in many ways, helped his mom run the house. The amount of affection and concern he has for his family is so endearing. Lucky competes in rodeos, specifically calf roping; when he's not competing, he works odd jobs to help support his mom and put money away toward his sister's college fund. This guy! Lucky is a major sweetheart. Likewise, Harmony has a strong relationship with her family. She and Melody are close, especially since losing their father when they were young and their mother just a few years prior. The Santos sisters clearly have each other's back.
As with Cowboy Player, I have to rave about the diversity in this book. Both main characters are people of color: Lucky is Mexican and Harmony is Filipino. I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's a breath of fresh air to read about characters who actually resemble me!
The chemistry between Harmony and Lucky is incredibly hot. Lucky's pretty bossy in bed and Harmony is definitely up for the challenge. There's a hint of kink, but everything feels natural in the context of their growing relationship.
And what's so great about their relationship is the unconditional acceptance. When Harmony was with Frank, she had to change who she was so that she could fit into his neat, orderly life. But with Lucky, she doesn't have to pretend. In return, Lucky is falling hard for Harmony--just as she is.
It's impossible to choose my favorite moment from Cowboy Karma, but I loved this quote:
Life is short. There's never a good time for anything. So don't you ever be afraid to give. Don't you ever be afraid to love.
Those words may have left me in tears. Okay, there's no maybe about it: this book made me cry in a good way. When I read the final paragraphs, I had to go back and read them again. Then I cried some more.
Cowboy Karma is about two people who fall for each other as they are--not as others think they should be. It's about being impulsive and a little bit crazy when you know that what you feel is right. And more than anything, it's about making new memories--ones filled with happiness and love--the kind that will last.
I highly recommend Cowboy Karma and look forward to the next book in this awesome series.
I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley.
When Harmony Santos started dating a doctor, she changed everything that made herself.well herself! She went from outgoing, loud, party girl, to quite and restrained Nurse and girlfriend of a wealthy prestigious doctor. But when Harmony's doctor boyfriend broke up with her at dinner on her birthday! Harmony did the one thing that made her feel better! She went to the local bar and met up with her sister! But then she did the one thing that she never saw coming!...she had a one night stand with Lucky Garcia.
Lucky Garcia if finally on the fast track! As a tie-down roper, he finally has a shot at the National Championships! Which will go A LONG way to helping his family and help put his siblings through school! And just to add to his all time high, his spent the night with the one women he has had a crush on since high school! Harmony Santos!! But the morning after she is full if retreat and that hurts Lucky more than he imagines.
But Lucky being the great guy that he is, offers to help Harmony get her ex-boyfriend back, but Harmony is not sure she wants him, as she is really attracted to Lucky…but is it the real thing or just a rebound fling? And are they both willing to take that chance?
We are back with another installment in the Cowboys Cocktails series, and this one is just that bit more delicious than the last! It was SO quick for me to become addicted to Mia Hopkins books, they are so well written and the plot is so delicious, that you are left craving for more!
I absolutely loved Lucky's character! He is just generally a great person, whom worked hard for everything he had! I also loved the fact that he was in the rodeo circuit, in order to help out his family!! Harmony character was playful and maybe a hint of insecurities, which made you feel like she was your friend and you just want to help her! I have to say my favorite screen in the whole book, is when Harmony brings Lucky's Mom and sister to his event!! That was a huge step for her in this book, and completely melted my heart!
**I voluntarily reviewed Cowboy Karma ARC for Net Galley**
Cowboy Karma by Mia Hopkins is book 4 in the Cowboy Cocktail and it was a fantastic quick and sexy book to read. I'd give it a solid 4.8 stars there is a bit of kink but its written so well that you'll never know its there. This is my first book by Mia Hopkins and most likely won't be the last one.
Harmony Santos is a medical surgerical nurse that has total changed her life for her romance with Dr. Frank and after one year of being the perfect girlfriend, he dumps her on her birthday of all days. To help her bruised heart she decides to meet her sister at the new bar in Oleander, The Silver Spur. After dancing her blues away and a few shots, she's surprised to have Lucero "Lucky" Garcia ask for a dance. She vaguely remembers him from high school but nothing prepares her for the hot cowboy in front of her. They have a night of fantastic passion that neither of them can forget before he goes off to compete in the tie down roping with hopes of winning a chance to be in the world championships. I love her Aunt Cece who just lost her husband and the advice that she gives Harmony is so precious.
Lucky is working hard to help his mother put his siblings through both school and college so that she doesn't have to work so hard. He stepped up when their father left suddenly and works upward to three jobs plus competes in the rodeos. But when he sees Harmony again at the Silver Spur, he realizes that he finally has a chance to prove to her that he can be more than a friend. Will she accept his wanting more than a one night? Can she get over Dr. Frank and move on to what could possibly be the love of a lifetime? I loved the story line and the dedication that both Harmony and Lucky have for their families. Truly Cowboy Karma is well worth the quick and fun read.
Who breaks up with a woman on her birthday? Harmony’s crummy doctor boyfriend, that’s who. Harmony is a surgical nurse, a career woman who is smart and in charge of her own life. When her boyfriend announces during her birthday dinner that “this isn’t working” her heart breaks but she gets up and moves on with her life. She heads back home to where she has friends and suddenly finds herself out for an evening of drinking and dancing to forget her troubles. She spots a sexy cowboy and it’s game on. Lucky is not only a sexy cowboy, he’s a kind man, and that makes all the difference. Not realizing that Harmony is on the rebound, counted in minutes, he takes her home with him for one night of sex, which turns out to be amazing. Harmony remembers Lucky from high school but he was not the kind of guy she can see herself falling for. That is, until he reveals his true self in his care and concern for her when she tells him the truth. Lucky is carrying quite a burden himself, with a brother and sister to get through college and a mother to support. Lucky is a rodeo cowboy who depends on his winnings to support his family and therefore it is important for him to win the world championship. I loved this story and how things turned out for Harmony and Lucky. I would call this book more HFN than HEA, but it’s a strong HFN and I’m betting that it will flourish as an HEA eventually. I love Mia Hopkins writing, her characters, and the way she develops a plot. There was absolutely no disappointment in this one. Keep ‘em coming, Mia.
Steamy and sexy, but with an unexpected side of sweet. This was my first Mia Hopkins read, and now I plan to catch up on all the Cowboy Cocktails.
First, I was unprepared for just the bold and blunt sex scenes. Despite the kind of bland beginning (Lucky reunites with Harmony at a bar after she was dumped by her boyfriend), Lucky and Harmony aren't about games or pretense. Its total lust between two highly sexual people who also happen to have brains and emotions as well.
What I really enjoyed is that Lucky and Harmony are adults and acted like adults. While fully engaged in their lust, Lucky and Harmony actually talk things through and question themselves about what they are doing. Lucky's long-simmering crush for her just added to his alpha-ness; there was no question that he would never believe himself to be good enough for her but he would forever move mountains to try to be.
Harmony's hesitation was totally believable and added a great dimension to their story. I found the ending to be realistic, while fully convinced that they would have a HEA. Also, kudos for making Lucky and Harmony's ethnic backgrounds a part of the story but not the whole story. The scene where Harmony puts down the racist slut was pure gold.
Note: I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
What a delight! Since the blurb for the story is perfect I won’t say more about the story line than that you will get just what the blurb indicates is between the pages. That said, I really liked and could relate to the characters even though they are considerably younger than I am…they and their story took me back to when I was their age and what a time in my life that was! Lucky is a wonderful person, family man and potential significant other. Harmony seemed a bit selfish at first but the more I read the more I understood and cared about her. I do believe that Lucky had Harmony have a great future together even though the book ended with a HFN rather than a HEA.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and want to thank the author for bequeathing me a copy to read and review.
Mia Hopkins you have done it again, my friend! I have been (not so) patiently waiting for Harmony and Lucky's story to be told and BOOM! 5***** WickedGoodStars all the way for Cowboy Karma. While the sex is not as brazen or the language as crass as some of the former books in the series, its still every bit as good (if not better) than the previous three. Lucky is one strong hero. I wont give away the story, but he's the kind of man we all would be be 'lucky' to find for ourselves. Harmony better hold on tight to him. *swoony eyes* I fell hard for this couple in the previous book and to see their relationship grow throughout Cowboy Karma was a wonderful story unfolding. I have been in love with Mia Hopkins storytelling since book #1 of this series and I hope she continues it indefinitely.

I again loved this novella in this cowboy series set in Oleander, California!
This book has: One night stand Rebound situationship Cameos from other couples, like Dean & Monica, Clark & Melody, plus Cece (the MacKinnon matriarch) Backstory of Cece & Dale MacKinnon 🥹 A horse named Batman MMC who just wants to take care of his family (brother, sister & mom — his dad left them & started a new family💔)
I loved that we got a love interest who was not part of the MacKinnon core family, and instead got to focus on a ranch hand, Lucero “Lucky” who was aspiring to be a famous tie down roper at the rodeo to take care of his family. He felt so relatable and it was easy to root for him! With a Mexican love interest and Filipina main character (Harmony), I loved that you could show that small-town romance can be diverse!
I loved the connection between Harmony and Lucky’s younger sister Araceli pursuing nursing as careers. Just a shameless time for me to say I’m so thankful for nurses who are constantly on the frontlines. True angels on earth!!!
As always, I loved the resolution and where these characters end up at the conclusion of the book, and I think this would be such a fun rom-dram series in HBOMax!
Steam rating: 4/5
cw: abandonment, class differences, money troubles, physical violence
Harmony Santos was looking forward to her birthday with her boyfriend. It did not turn out the way she was expecting it to go. Thinking that he was going to propose he instead broke up with her. Now back in her home town at the local bar she is noticing how everything has changed, not just the bar but the cowboys also. Lucky Garcia has always had the hots for Harmony, and she has used those feelings to her advantage in getting him to help her move, and anything else she wanted done. Now it is Harmony that is surprised by the look and feel of Lucky especially after they dance a few times. Now after being with her dancing Lucky wants to spend more time with her but with his confidence not that high he does not need to doubt himself with the big rodeo finals coming up. He needs to be on the top of his game for the money he wins helps his family with his sister in college. The more time Harmony spends with Lucky she sees a whole other side of him that she never saw and now must makes some tough choices of her own. A very good book with some hot scenes and a good story line. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
Harmony’s boyfriend - frank dumps her at her birthday dinner and they had been together for one year and Harmony thought all was perfect between her and Frank. Harmony was a medical surgical nurse and Frank a doctor. Harmony decided to go back home and went out with her sister to the bar the Silver Spur and somehow ended up dancing with this cowboy. Harmony doesn’t recognize Lucky but he had a long time crush on Harmony. Harmony has a one night stand with Lucky. Lucky is a rodeo calf roper but also works up to three jobs. Lucky believes in family and is helping his mother put his siblings through college. Lucky wants more than one night with Harmony but he has to leave her because of commitments. Lucky also feels he is not worthy of Harmony. Lucky - Lucero Garcia knew Harmony from H S. Lucky hopes to be in the World Rodeo Championship. Nobody seems to get Harmony like Lucky does. I enjoyed this story a lot. I liked Harmony and felt bad for what Frank did to her on her birthday but a lot of men are just butts in fiction and in real life. But then lucky was a better man anyway as far as I am concerned. Then seeing Lucky at the Silver Spur and he wasn’t a boy anymore that was for sure. I really enjoyed how Lucky treated Harmony and hotness of their time together. This had a great plot and a great ending. This was a quick read but had everything it needed. I had no problem reading this as it held my interest all the way through the story. I liked the characters a lot as well as the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.
I won’t rehash the plot, but this book was a pleasure to read, one that I devoured in one sitting. Yeah, I’m a little blurry-eyed as I write this, but it was worth it. I just love the connection Lucky and Harmony have, and that sizzle just pours off the pages. There were some laugh out loud moments when Lucky ties Harmony to the bed, then proceeds to check out her closet. Oh my gawd! The Imelda Marcos line was hilarious, and the mention of Harmony’s collection of shoes is brilliant. Lucky is more than he seems, just a real sweetheart, proud and protective of family. As the eldest son, he steps up to the plate, acting more of a father figure, taking responsibility for his mother and siblings and providing for their future. So glad Harmony saw Lucky, as the real hardworking, loving man he is, and not the young cowboy she knew before leaving town.
This is the first book I’ve read by Mia Hopkins and so glad I’ve found a new author that writes such relatable characters. Cowboy Karma is a friends to lovers romance wrapped in humor and fun. It’s a heartwarming story filled with emotions, steamy goodness, love of family, and a chance at love for two unlikely people who find a future rich with friendship, family and love. I’ll be looking for the previous books in this series for more fun-filled reading.
We meet Harmony on her birthday as she is dumped by her doctor boyfriend!! Completely blindsided she reaches out to her sister who invites her to the re-opening of the Silver Spur – the bar they all used to hang out in Oleander. Happy for the distraction she makes the drive and dances with older cowboys and cowboy wannabes until about to leave the dance floor – she is invited to dance by a sexy, muscled cowboy who is impossible to refuse. It takes her a few minutes to look under the brim of that cowboy hat and realize she is dancing with Lucky, a ranch hand she knows, but who used to be somewhat of a flyweight. He has grown up mighty fine!!
A scintillating night spent together has her feeling more in one night than her ex-boyfriend ever had her feel. Under the theory that men only want what they can’t have Lucky offers to accompany Harmony to an event her ex will also attend. That evening ends badly for all – and Harmony is left wondering if Lucky is just a “rebound” or if there is more there.
Wonderful characterizations, the importance of family, and a smoking hot cowboy coalesce into a marvelous story which will require you to set aside some time – as you will not want to put it down!!
My first Mia Hopkins book – I was blown away!!
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
Harmony and Lucky’s courtship hit every bump along the way! The chemistry between them was crazy hot but whether it was rebound angst or right place/wrong time there was a lot to sort out before any type of happily ever after was possible…
Lucky was so much more than just a sexy cowboy as he supported his family in every way he knew how. Harmony was struggling to understand her feelings and Lucky was collateral damage at times but he took the hits and kept true to his feelings for Harmony despite it all. I liked these characters with their brutal honesty – not afraid to admit when they were wrong even when it showed themselves in not a great light. For every setback, they proved themselves imperfect yet always ready to do better…
Full of passion and heart, this was a great mix of heat and love…
*I happily reviewed this story **Thank you to NetGalley
Such a great little love story, with Harmony Santos (Filipino) and Lucky Garcia (Latino) reconnecting after a few years having gone in other directions. I've mentioned this in other reviews of other of her cowboy stories, but this author (who I know, personally) has a real knack for giving enough of the background of the different cultures and families, to help the reader get a taste for and appreciate them.
It's set in the fictional town of Oleander, about an hour's drive from Bakersfield. I like that the sex happens pretty near the beginning of the story, and the sexual tension continues all the way to the end.
There are rodeos, and rodeos, and lots of both kinds in this erotic novella.
Mia Hopkins` Cowboy Cocktail is a wonderful series that follows the adventures of the MacKinnon brothers and their closest friends. From playful, mischievous children to sexy self-assured adults, the boys (and girls) that form this extended family are a pleasure to behold.
Cowboy Karma tells the story of rodeo cowboy Lucky Garcia; with a heart of gold, tender soul and so love much to give. As the eldest of the Garcia clan, Lucky is determined to ensure his siblings have the opportunity to pursue their dreams, become successful and never feel the fears that plagued them as children.
But not everything in Lucky’s life is as simple as his plan for his family. Watching the perfect girl walk away to start a life far from Lucky left a hole in his heart and a question about what could have been. So when Harmony Santos shows up two years on, broken-hearted and looking for comfort, Lucky is there to used.
What follows is a beautiful story of two very different people who are actually so very much alike, and the passion and desire they ignite by simply being in each other’s presence.
While all Ms Hopkins stories can be read as standalones, I would strongly recommend starting at the beginning with Cowboy Valentine and following the journey of the MacKinnon’s, Lucky, and Melody and Harmony too.
Harmony is Melody of Cowboy Player's younger sister, and it's in CP that we are first teased her and Lucky's story because the drunken night of her graduation party that is referenced happens in Melody's book. This was another quick novella, which speaks to the name of the series, I guess, and it was hotter than Melody's as Lucky has a kinky bent. Given the length, it was hard to buy that she was over her ex as quickly as she was, but it was good nonetheless.
I am glad I agreed to read this one. I wasn't thrilled at first of the thought, but I loved this book. Whoa, I was captured from the beginning. This is one wild Rodeo ride. I highly suggest this be a #oneclick for you.
*I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review
I can seriously NOT get enough of these Mia Hopkins cowboy romances. They're diverse, sex-positive, and steamy as HELL. I love how attached you get to these characters in such a few pages. Definitely worth the read!
This was short, more of a novella and kinda cute... Not what I thought it would be, no 3d act breakup just miscommunication that was easily resolved. That being said, it was still very American with the way the society works and what is deemed normal
If you like a dirty talking cowboy then look no further because Lucky he has it down to an art form. This one gets fan yourself hot. Harmony is not having the best of luck on her birthday, but things are looking up when Lucky comes back into her life. This book has a nice flow to it. It has humor, passion, and angst. I'm a fan of this series and this was a nice addition to the series.
I wanted to like this novel since childhood friends/ friends to lovers stories are my absolute favorite. However, this just didn’t do it for me. I didn’t enjoy either of the characters, the story was cliché right from the get go, and the storyline was kind of a mess. The erotica scenes were actually pretty steamy and the main characters did seem to have chemistry inside of the bedroom, but that was about it. I was sorely disappointed by this novel overall.
Lucky is a smoking hot, fun loving cowboy with a heart of gold, chasing his dreams of Rodeo fame. Living in Texas, I wasn't sure how much I'd like this California Cowboy, but Mia Hopkins delivered a sexy horseback riding alpha male in Cowboy Karma.
The story of Harmony and Lucky is full of humor, hot spicy lovin and strong family ties that allow us to have hope and joy even when life kicks us to the curb. I loved the story of second chance love and how even an unexpected encounter, on one of the worst days of your life, can offer you a chance at a happy ever after.
This is the second Mia Hopkins book I've read and I'm already a big fan of her stories.
This was a sweet easy read love story. Lucky was really lucky afterall. He didn't think he deserved Harmony because she was in a class all her own. But his deep abiding Love for his family and helping to take care of them among other things, won her heart.
