Rowen the Restless is one of the bastard triplets of King Edward III. At birth, the king ordered them killed, fearing the superstitions of triplets being evil spawns of the devil who would only bring him bad luck. However, someone didn't want the babies to die, and the boys' lives were saved in secret.
Now, over two decades later, Rowen and his brothers, Rook and Reed, are out for vengeance on the man who sired them and wanted them dead. Finally finding out the truth of being the English king's bastards on the night of Burnt Candlemas ten years earlier, the young boys' lives changed drastically as they were split apart in the turmoil that devastated their homeland of Scotland. Being stolen and raised by pirates, Rowen now commands a ship and works with his brothers who live in the crypts and the hills, to steal from the king and bring the riches to the Scots instead. No one knows that the legendary Demon Thief who manages to always disappear before he is caught, and who can even change his hair color from blond to red to black, is not one man, but three brothers, each with a small army of their own.
Lady Cordelia of Whitehaven is a young widow who wants nothing more than to have children. She happens to end up in the wrong place at the wrong time and before she knows it, she's been taken captive by a pirate who has stolen her dowry that she plans on using to convince the king to let her marry a new husband of her own choosing. The sea captain is handsome and exciting, and protects her from being ravaged by his crew. While he's mysterious, Cordelia realizes he is very restless and has deep, dark secrets that disturb him. She hopes to uncover the secrets of the restless sea lord because she sees a noble man trapped inside, making him more of a prisoner than her.

Mixed feelings about this medieval, at times the romance came in 2nd to the adventure. I wanted to enjoy this, but... I seldom comment on cover art, but this man's head seemed too small compared to his huge body.
Sea captain (& pirate) Rowen & Lady Cordelia were thrown together. While he was taking revenge on his father the King. 22 yrs earlier, King Edward's beloved mistress died in childbirth, leaving him triplet sons. B/c of a superstition about triplets, the King ordered these 3 sons killed. Someone instead ordered these boy babies hidden and not killed.
Rowen + his 2 bros made it their business to steal from the King's ships, with proceeds going to the Scots. Each brother had a special trained bird. At age 12 they learned the King was their true sire, so they rejected the couple who raised them (huh?) & their 3 younger sisters. One sis Lady Summer eventually became the h's lady-in-waiting.
Lucky (not!) Cordelia got in the middle of this revenge plot. H + h made unwise decisions, and at times didn't even like each other. But lust they felt. Ending seemed too convenient/ too perfect.
Imagine being a triplet and finding out at 12 that you were the bastard son's of the king. Three brothers now grown up only seek revenge against their Sire. But as this pirate tale goes, Rowan and his brothers, Rook and Reed, were split up by forces prevailing in their homeland of Scotland. Rowan our hero, is now commanding his own ship and working with his brothers who he found. Stealing from the king and bringing the riches back to Scotland, they are termed the Demon Thief.. Nobody knows that it is actually 3 different lads! Bring Lady Cordelia of Whitehaven in to the picture when she is taken captive by Rowen. This story is full of adventure, intrigue, pirates. strong characters and romance that develops as Rowen and Cordelia are thrown together. Elizabeth Rose is a master at drawing in the reader to a story and not letting go. Looking forward to the stories of Rook and Reed to see what adventures they get into!!
The first book about King Edwards triplet bastards was s thrilling and engaging read but the resolution was unbelievable. Otherwise, the book was well written and kept my attention when Rowan the sea lord abducted Lady Cordelia and her fortune from right under the King's nose.
This Sea Lord is a bit salty... and I love it!! Lots of intrigue, miscommunication, adventure and a healthy dose of romance! Rowan is the first of the triplets to have his story told, and I'm looking forward to the rest!
I had no idea that children of multiple births were considered cursed during the Middle Ages and so it was fascinating to read a story about a set of triplets; bastard sons of the King of England. The prologue sets the scene for the 12 year old boys to find out the truth of their lineage and how they come to be separated. It would have been interesting to have had a couple of chapters about Rowan's life as a pirate in the intervening years between the prologue and chapter 1 and how the triplets managed to find each other again as adults. This however is glossed over, perhaps the reuniting of the siblings will be covered in subsequent stories.
I enjoyed the story and really felt for Rowan about the decision he had to make in order to be with Cordelia. I very much look forward to reading about Rook and Reed.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
I really loved Cordelia and Rowen's story. I felt that the king was doing the triplets a very big disservice by not legitimizing them. I also believe that Rook and Reed shouldn't have Bland Rowen for accepting an alliance with the King, particularly since he really didn't have a choice. He should never have been put in a position where he had to choose between his family and the woman he loved. This is part of a boxed set that's called legendary Bastards of the crown. I still have to read the other three stories but if this one is anything to go by, the other three story should be very good.
The title of the Series drew me in and I pre-ordered all 3. I have not been disappointed. I have read the books in order and so glad I did. So love the storyline. Love all the characters. I get suspense, romance and humor all rolled up into each book.
Love your books Elizabeth Rose. You were a new author when I first started with this series and since then I have purchased many of your other books. Thank you for sharing your gift with all of us.
On the night of a violent attack on Scotland by the army of King Edward of England, twelve-year-old triplets Rowan, Reed and Rook discover they are Edward’s bastard sons. Years later the triplets are determined to get revenge on their father, Edward, not by killing him, but by stealing treasure from him at every opportunity, and making him miserable. In short the “evil” he thought he spawned (superstition that multiples were evil) would give dear old dad Hell. In the first story of the Legendary Bastards of the Crown, Restless Sea Lord, Rowen is captain of the Pirate ship and is known as Rowen the Restless. He leads most of the raids on the kings property. One of their raids is interrupted by Lady Cordelia of Whitehaven. When she overhears too much of the brothers’ plans, she is captured by Rowen to protect the raid and his men and brothers. From here we are taken on an exciting adventure. Rowen and Cordelia are in love, but can they possibly have a future together? The king is determined to put a stop to the brothers’ activities. Can Rowen come to terms with king; can his brothers? Elizabeth Rose gives us a well-written story with strong complex characters and a plot that is full of twists and turns, challenges, and romance, and Brian J. Gill does an outstanding job bringing it to life.
Restless Sea Lord is an exciting first book in the series Legendary Bastards of the Crown by Elizabeth Rose. Before I read this book I reread again Destiny's Kiss, which is a prequel novella to this series. While it is not necessary to read it before Restless Sea Lord, it does help lay the groundwork for the series. In the prologue for Restless Sea Lord, 12-year old triplets, Rowen, Rook, and Reed, survive a bloodthirsty attack on Scotland by King Edward of England. That is the night the boys discover they are bastard sons of the King. Though they end up separated after a secondary attack, they are all determined to find ways to get revenge on King Edward. Over the years, Rowen the Restless takes his revenge on the king by captaining the fastest and most elusive pirate ship on the seas and making raids on the king's properties and capturing bounties. During one of the raids planned by him and his brothers, Rowen meets the widowed Lady Cordelia of Whitehaven. She happens to overhear too much of the plans of Rowen and his brothers, so he has no option but to capture her. The story continues with swashbuckling adventure, salty characters, introduction to three different birds belonging to each brother, several twists, and turns, and a growing romance between Rowen and "Cordy." The author has a way of drawing a reader into the story and not letting go until the final chapter. Well Done Ms. Rose. Looking forward to the next in series.
Elizabeth Rose has once again written the first book in a new series that will have wishing the other books were already written!!
Restless is Rowen's story. He is the first born of a set of triplets in time when superstition feared twins, let alone triplets. If that wasn't cursed enough, they we're the bastard sons of a king. A king who ordered them killed at birth.
Rowen and his brothers are raised to hate the king not knowing he is their father. Finding that fact out at 12 sets them on a course that will separate them to be raised quite differently and then brought back together, determined to destroy the king and all he holds dear.
Enter one Lady Cordelia into the mix. She makes him question all his preconceived notions of hate and jealousy. And loyalties will be tested.
Looking forward to Reed and Rook's stories. Curious to see the path this tale will follow to its conclusion. Well done Ms. Rose!
Another great start to another great series. Restless Sea Lord is the first in the series of Legendary Bastards of the Crown. This books gets you interested from page1. It starts when the 3 boys are 12yrs old and find out who they really are. Even though they have all had very different lives, they find each other and work together to do right even though everyone thinks they are no good. As usual I love the way Ms Rose has written this book, with adventure, suspense and romance. One that will keep you turning the page. I also enjoy they way most of her books are entwined with each other, where you meet new people who will have their own book eventually. This is not a new release so it is a good place to start if you are new to her writing.
The eldest triplet, Rowan, ends up kidnapping the Lady Cordelia from Whitehaven, because she had listen to the discussion between the three triplets, and if left alone, may have given away the secret surrounding the identity of the Restless Pirate. This turn of events pushed these two together, on board the pirate vessel. He had promised to protect her from his crew, thus forcing them in close proximity to each other. The initial attraction only grew. I feel that I would not give too much of this little drama away, and it is a story best told in the way the author has penned it. I did enjoy this episode!
Okay, this is how to start off a series, especially one where it branches into others, and let me tell you, I am here for all of it. Elizabeth Rose knows how to tell a story steeped in history and romance, and man oh man, that ending. Royal bastard turned pirate? Um, yes, please. A widowed heroine determined to chart her own future? Bring that right over here.
Thankfully, our hero has two brothers (did I mention he's a triplet?) and our heroine has her own kith and kin, so prepare for a smashing good time with the extended fam.
I recieved a copy of this book from the author, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
The triplets are scattered at age 12 when King Edward III invades their homeland. They run to a monastery for sanctuary, but pirates come in to loot the place. Rowen is captured by the pirates and pressed into service aboard their ship.
Ten years later, Rowen is captain of the pirate ship and stealing as much as he can from King Edward on land and sea. He is joined by his brothers, Rook and Reed, to steal a shipment going to King Edward. In the melee, he takes Lady Cordelia prisoner because she has overheard too much.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 Being separated from his family , his brothers Reed and Rook , Rowen is taken aboard ship , much against his will , forced into a crew , no care or love just hard work . He swears he will come back and someone will pay . Years later Rowen the Restless as he’s now known is back partly reunited with his brothers and looking for vengeance retribution and payback from his blood father King Edward . A great book and beginning to this series . Loved it . I read an advanced copy of this book and chose to submit a review
Triplets, Rowen, Rook and Reed, are the 3 Illegitimate children of King Edward. They get separated as they try to run from the English. Rowan gets kidnapped by pirates and grows up aboard a pirate ship. Years later, Rowen becomes the Captain and renunites with his brothers and start raiding and stealing from the King.
Lady Cordelia, A young window, sees Rowen at a pub and discovers that he is the well known Demon Thief. She is abducted by Rowen and taken to his ship.
Will Rowen change his thieving ways for the love a good lady?
Have had this in my Kindle for while now but never felt drawn to it. However, being ill and stuck in bed and wanting a light read I thought i'd give it a go and was pleasantly surprised. The book is well paced with some interesting (although not completely accurate!) historical ideas and some good likeable characters. Enjoyed the (totally unbelievable) HEA and have decided to try the next in the series.
Rowen, the first born triplet was raised by Pirates after being separated from his brothers. On the death of the Pirate, Rowen inherited the ship and the crews loyalty. He kidnapped a woman to stop her from alerting the Kings men. This was the beginning of an exciting adventure both at sea and on land. Lady Cordelia was the challenge he didn't know he needed but she was also trouble with a capital T. Elizabeth Rose does not disappoint if you like a great medieval yarn.
This is a fast paced story full of adventure and action. It focuses on Rowan, one of the king’s triplet bastards and his meeting with Lady Cordelia. They have an attraction but think nothing can come of it as she is a noble and he is a pirate. It also explains how the triplets were separated and what they have been doing since being reunited. This was an entertaining read. I can’t wait to read the next books on the series

I had a problem with the female character in this book. She just seemed selfish through most of the book. Especially at the end. It was all about what she wanted and it didn’t seem like she cared that he would be giving up everything for her. Even his honor.
So what is basically an all right read just disgusted me in the end.
What a great read. Lady's Kiss, the first one gave you a great intro into why the triplets who father wanted them killed behave the way they do. And Lady Cordelia of Whitehaven is a great introduction. And the love of a woman can always get you to change your ways. . . Maybe. I can't wait to read the next book.
I guess my mother would have been shunned because she is a twin and left handed. I never knew that to be a curse on medieval times. I love all the characters. On to book two.
This was a good book. I wasn't ready for it to end. I like Rowan as a pirate. I hope the characters show up in the following books. I recommend this book. Look forward to the next book.
Fabulous beginning of an exciting trilogy filled with romance, humor and suspense. I also bought the audio books for this series (be sure to read the prequel) and give 5*s to the narrator for bringing these wonderful characters to life.
Narrator: Brian J Gill does a great job. Do not judge this book by its cover! Which as a pretty ugly guy on it in my opinion sure they could've done better. It's a great story! Love how the brothers have each others back even though they don't always see things the same way.
A series built on legendary bastards has to be investgated.. Ms Rose does the job ..Her writing such a stoty is impeccably entertaining with great and enjoyable characters plus s
