The Umetarou Nozaki party heads for the sun and surf! When the group tags along for the drama club's training camp, summer fun runs amok, and seasonal gags abound, whether at the beach, at an inn, or even in the bath!! And if that's not enough drama, the story of the spring day Chiyo fell in love with a certain rather dense young man is finally told!

Now that from this volume of the manga onwards, the material is unadapted, I just want to recollect how amazing this series is and how well it works. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun runs on three things - playing on shoujo manga tropes, misunderstandings and brilliant comic timing. Although the format is pretty loose and there is no overall main plot, it is the smaller romance arcs that make the backbone of the story and the short scenarios that breathe air into it.

When it comes to playing on tropes, sometimes it goes along but mostly it subverts them. Part of it is in meta and some of it hits the fourth wall. An example of the former would be the scene describing Chiyo's and Umetarou's first meeting (it is shorter in the anime, and leaves out the fact that Mamiko's hair is inspired from Chiyo). Also the subsequent story in which pretty much all of her classmates are Umetarou experts thanks to her. On the other hand, it also calls out trends and tropes, like when Chiyo tries to a 'little devil play' to get Umetarou to notice her, but instead engages a discussion amongst the rest of them. Or when Mikorin is thinking about how a particular scenario Umetarou was considering for the storyboard couldn't happen in real life, but it actually does! (Side note: I love that it was Mikorin and Waka - I love these two knuckleheads).

Playing on misunderstandings is a favorite tactic of this manga. The fact is, not all the characters know each other, so hilarious situations happen. Like, when Waka goes swimwear shopping with the girls (Seo, who had invited him, Chiyo and Kashima) but thinking Kashima to be Seo's boyfriend (from the previous manga's festival) mimics her informal behaviour and unfortunately comes off as creepy. Or how pretty much everyone in the school now knows Seo is Lorelei - except for Waka! Poor guy is in for a shock in the future.

On the manga work side, there are some scenes where we get to learn more of the work a manga author does, like Umetarou thinking up mascots for collectibles. Or when he has to discern cover poses from a stick figure drawing given by the editor (Miyamae is so terrible at drawing it is hilarious that he works in manga). But his job is made easy, of course, by his various assistants (honestly the boy only has to think up the story and draw characters at this point) and the many many real-life muses he has with this motley gang. This time Seo got that honor with her prank on the boys during a beach trip - she takes out the strings in their swim trunks to entertain Chiyo, and obviously they get washed away underwater ;)

Currently, the couple claiming OTP status for this manga is Hori and Kashima - these two are dorks and I love them! Hori is so in tune with Kashima that when she has a sore throat and needs someone to talk on her behalf (she first recruits Mikorin who gets embarassed with every cheesy line he has to say on her behalf), he volunteers and even excels at it - ad libbing super cheesy prince-y lines. Oh, and I wish Kashima is declared genderfluid already - this same scenario had her arriving at school in pants and going full-on 'guy' mode since her voice was hoarse and she could finally pull off being a guy. But, also this is a shoujo manga, and I doubt it will happen soon *sigh*

Finally, Mayu (the other Nozaki) is showing off his drawing skills to teach judo moves to his fellow club members, but his 'moe' like quality artwork gets popular for other reasons.

Basically, this manga is a laugh riot and start with the manga or start with the anime -you really should put this on your lists!

3.5 stars. A bit more “body humour” than previous volumes which isn’t to my taste, but there are some very cute moments that made my heart go doki-doki! ;)

I'm a simple girl I see Kashima is in a chapter I give the volume 5 stars.

SERIOUSLY THOUGH my favorite chapters always are the ones with Kashima and Mikoshiba interacting!!! They have such a precious friendship! The entire beach arc was precious. Also I loved to see a little more romance in this volume it was so cute!

srsly nozaki's growing affection for sakura is so endearing (even tho its more like a doting parent than a romantic partner rn lmao)

wakamatsu instantly knocking tf out once he hears "lorelei's" voice is prob one of my fav running gags

The kids are all doing great, still being dumb. This one also introduces how Sakura and Nozaki met, and I forgot how funny it is. They're doing their best.

There’s beach antics—and swimsuit shopping, which confuses Wakamatsu who doesn’t realise prince charming is a girl. And the entire group heads to a spa with the drama club, but things don’t progress smoothly for anyone. And we finally learn why Sakura has a crush on Nozaki in the first place. It’s as random as anything in this silly series.

Yah, like usual, still crazy, still make me ROTFL sampe ngekek - ngekek.

Terus gimana sama Sakura? Yah, masih jalan aja asistenzonenya :v. Pembaca bakal diajak flashback ke masa dimana Sakura awalnya naksir Nozaki. Cuma, bukan Komikus Shojo Nozaki namanya kalau awal mula perkenalan ini ga koplak sekoplak - koplaknya.

Terjemahannya oke, tapy typonya ada kelewatan dua kali tuh. Untuk ukuran manga yang bahkan di Jepang aja masih belum tamat, terbitnya Nozaki ini ngebut bak Shinkansen (padahal gw liat di Gramed juga masih banyak :v). Obrolan sama editornya Elex sih, untuk vol 6 bakalan terbit dalam waktu dekat. Yang bikin gw mikir, buat next volume mesti nunggu lama banget dong ya ;_;

Dang, I really need my Nozaki fix!

Aaaaaaah!!!

Duh, begoooo!!!

Gitu deh.
Enw, saya jatuh cinta langsung sama Pak Ken di ilustrasi berwarna halaman pertama! SAYA MENUNTUT PAK KEN JADI KURUS LAGI!!!

Sekocak-kocaknya Nozaki and the gang, paling kocak dan kacau kalau semuanya ngumpul jadi satu di pantai. Duh... nggak kuat ngakak pas adegan tuh cowok2 celana renangnya hanyut... Seooooo.... dasar Seo, geloooo :-D

Belum lagi komentar Hori yg menanyakan keren mana 'cowoknya Seo' sama Kashima *ciyeeeeciyeee#2*

Nb: pak ken kurus tjakep sekaleeeee *twinkling hearteyes*

Never read this manga in public if you want to look sane.

I enjoyed every pages. This series continues to defy gender roles as the characters make you fall in love with them.

I tried to hold back my laugh as I was reading this on the metro.People looked at me weird but it was worth it.
