A very nice conclusion to the series! Joe and Gill are perfect for each other. I see great things in the future. I enjoy this kind of "small town" series setting. Add in the close friendships and you've got me hooked. This one had a touch of scandal thrown in. Somewhat unexpected and I liked it. I haven't read any Catherine Bybee books I haven't liked. I'm looking forward to what she comes up with next. Happy reading!
Catherine Bybee’s writing is clear, sharp and precise and it draws me in every time. Making it Right was no exception.
Jo made mistakes in her past that she was never able to correct which set her on a path in life that may or may not be what she really wanted for herself. Either way, sheriff of a small town is where she is. She has no personal life to speak of and definitely no relationships of the romantic kind. Despite all the small town issues that she is required to solve there is a larger case that her heart demands she finds answers to. Unfortunately, no one believes her.
Gill, an FBI agent, finds her attractive and witty. As they begin a relationship things start to heat up in the little town of River Bend. There was a whole little nest of deceptions that had to be uncovered. Gill was a perfect counter point to Jo as they dig into the past to try to find answers. Their feelings and relationship grew in an organic manner which I really enjoyed.
This was a fast paced read with plenty of great secondary characters that added to the story. Told in dual points of view I felt connected to both the hero and heroine. Although part of a series it can stand on its own.
Jo (JoAnne) Ward’s character had me at hello, folks. Every since I was first introduced to her in the previous books of this series, I couldn’t wait to see this tough, small town, wishes she could redo the past/carries the weight of the world on her shoulders female sheriff get her own HEA. Well, I’m here to give my sworn statement it was well worth the wait. As usual, Ms. Bybee did not disappoint.
Gill Clausen, Jo’s FBI agent love interest, was her perfect match. He was the whole package, folks, and their love connection felt like the real deal. This alpha protective, handsome, brawny, mountain of muscle had the brains to match and a heart he couldn’t help but surrender completely to Jo. Their instant chemistry, flirty back and forth banter, and genuine emotional connection as they got to know each other had me riveted until the very end. I absolutely loved how he couldn’t seem to stay away from her, even after their inevitable separation.
The bizarre turn of events/twists and turns that finally revealed what happened to Jo’s deceased father ten years earlier certainly took me by surprise. Though I must admit it bothered me Jo’s very respectable father got involved with someone he shouldn’t have and how he kept quiet about it even after another big, unexpected reveal was made.
So, in summary, my fellow romance book-loving friends, I thoroughly enjoyed this romantic tale. Catherine Bybee will continue to be an author that always catches my eye with her new releases. Here’s to hoping you’ll feel the same and that my review has been helpful in some way in deciding if this book is a good fit for you.

(I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for a fair review which was distributed via NetGalley. No compensation was provided to me, nor do I have any affiliation with the author/publisher/NetGalley.)
Making It Right got off to a rocky start. Our heroine JoAnne Ward came off too reserved.
Throughout the other books I just wasn’t interested in her as a character but gave her a chance in this book. The beginning as mentioned was tough going for me but once the ball started to get rolling it improved a lot.
Jo rebel child has been trying to redeem herself for the past ten years. So after her father’s accidental murder. Yeah that didn’t happen. She went to the Academy and became Sheriff and since that day she has been leading a half-life. Trying to catch her father’s murderer she isn’t getting any further.
Jo goes to DC to improve her skills with the FBI to help her in her endeavour. When not in River Bend Jo likes to live a little. In this case it came in the form of.
God Lord, God broke the mold with this one. His goatee was trimmed, immaculately so. His lips were full, his jaw tight … and his eyes. Dark, almost haunting. Dangerous. He did a once-over, and when his eyes met hers, he lifted his lips in a half smile.
And lovelies – I was a goner.
Fake names and a good time Anne creeps out of the hotel room to bump into him at the FBI. What are the odds right? Well ask Shauna about that one.
Agent Gil Clausen is smitten, gosh he is one of the best Heroes this year. IMO. He is protective, persistant and he knows what he wants and he wants JoAnne but with a murder on the loose and a couple of close calls they are up against a lot not to mention small town living lives Jo wanting a different life.
My one thing which irked me is I guessed some of the twists which is why I docked a star but also in saying that I enjoy the authors writing style and hope to read more of her works in the future. Ms. Bybee how about a book about Zane? Ta very much.
My friend Janie mentioned the acknowledgements at the end of the book and boy am I a bleeding heart. Ms. Bybee is really invested which as an author you should be. But for her it was personal. And my parting words?
Lead your life for yourself. Lead your life for the right reasons. Lead the life that you want.
While this is third (and last?) in a series, you don't have to read the others first. It'll enhance your experience if you do, though, so I recommend reading them in order.
Jo has been on the edges of the other stories and the crime/drama/suspense of the others felt forced. You'd think that Jo's profession would make that element more natural in this story, but you'd be wrong. So while I still liked Jo and Gill is made of win this story didn't rise above the ordinary. I dunno, but I think we just got more vulnerable weakness with her than I expected. She's so confident and unabashed in the other stories so finding her insecure and indecisive was a distinct shift and one I found unpleasant. Additional story details that remap history also didn't sit too well...
Anyway, I'm not going to get much deeper about the details. It's standard for the series, I think, and I'm just as happy to have a conclusion that was entertaining enough while it lasted.
A note about Steamy: I don't remember the explicit sex scene count, but it starts strong as Gill and Jo first encounter each other as a one-night-stand. This actually works really well as it marks the beginnings of both finding better. Anyway, this is the middle of my steam tolerance, so Bybee does the thing where subsequent intimacy is less about the details than about the emotional content.
**My thanks to NetGalley and Montlake Romance, for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This series has continued to get better and better with each book and holy hell, where do i find me an Agent Gill Clausen!!
We get to see a slightly wilder side to Jo along with the other personalities that we know that she has to foster. Jo like her friends finds herself in danger, but this time she has someone else apart from her friends who want to help.
Gill Clausen is a man who has a little wild side, but tempers that with his good side as a federal agent. When Jo comes in for a training course offered by his partner who met and befriended Jo when Hope was missing, Gill finds someone who is his match.
I loved Gill, i loved Jo and the fact we get to see her friends relationships evolve as they continue to be happy since their own books.
This is an author that i always greatly anticipate each and every book and this one has not disappointed.
The third and so far last book in the Most Likely To series centers around JoAnne Ward, the sheriff of River Bend, who stepped in her father’s footsteps after his sudden “accidental” death. Jo has always suspected that there was nothing accidental about her father’s death and she’s determined to proof it. When she attends an FBI training course, she connects with FBI agent Gill Clausen, a tattooed, shaven head bear of a man, who’s totally her type. They both enter into a tentative relationship that quickly evolves into something more serious – and when there’s a first attempt on Jo’s life because she’s investigating her father’s death, Gill will stay by her side until it’s resolved. I was a bit disappointed to observe that Mel, Wyatt, Zoe and Luke didn’t get as much page-time in this book. I was sincerely hoping for more get-togethers between the close friends. But all in all, this was a nice conclusion to this series. Hopefully there will be more books with these characters, maybe concentrating on the younger generation? Fingers crossed.
4 stars. I really enjoyed it! I listened to the audiobook (available to read & listen for free through KU). Weirdly enough, I felt like I had read this book before!! I really don’t think I did though, so I’m not sure why I kept remembering details. Am I remembering a different book? Am I losing my mind? Probably.
This book is about a one night stand turning into more - when the heroine finds that her ONS is one of her instructors in a training she signed up for. They spend the week of training getting to know each other better, and continue their relationship afterwards. The relationship portion of this story is really low-angst, which I enjoyed. The hero was fairly sure about his feelings for the heroine right away, and he really doesn’t waver with his feelings. Wouldn’t life be easier if every man was like this? 🙏🏻
Anyways, there’s also a murder mystery in this story dealing with the heroine’s fathers death. I honestly can’t say how predictable the answer to who did it was - since I feel like I’ve maybe read this book. Or maybe not. But, it was a well thought out storyline overall.
The hero and heroine get a really cute happy ending, maybe a bit more HFN than I prefer, but still really sweet.
Safe; no virgins, no om/ow drama, no scenes with om/ow, no cheating. Heroine never really had relationships because of her job - just short hookups or one night stands. The hero’s past is barely mentioned besides a few small mentions of past women. I got the impression that he was not a stranger to random hookups, but that he also wasn’t a huge manwhore.

The more I read from this author, the more I want to devour all her books. Not only can she draw me in with her main characters, she also draws me in with her side characters. They make just as much of an impact as the MC's.
It's rare for me to not have at least one complaint about a book, but I can't really come up with anything that I would have wanted differently. It was fast paced, a thrilling plot and a romance that I love to read about. There was no other women/men drama to interfere with the couple. All the drama was outside the couple and only brought them closer together. No sexual abuse, there is violence, but not graphic.
While this is the 3rd and final book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. You do see both couples from book 1 and 2, as well as all the town folk in all three books. If you are a fan of series books, you will want to start with book 1 to get to know everyone from the beginning. ARC provided by NetGalley.
It's enjoyable enough but it didn't quite hit the spot for me. The romance is too easy. The heroine is pretty reckless with her one night stand. Later the hero gives her a hard time because she put herself in a dangerous situation by going with him to his hotel room. It sounds like she's been reckless that way her whole life.
When they meet again, he decides he's going to keep her and pursues her pretty hard. And that's pretty much it for the relationship development. They go from 0-60 in no time. So, there's not a lot of satisfaction of them getting to know each other and fall in love. They just are real quick.
And then, part of this book is a mystery/suspense. Of who killed her father. And while there are a few events, the suspense part doesn't really come into play until the last quarter of the book.
We meet various people in town. We see relationships with the high school kids she coaches.
This was a powerful end to this series. I will miss these characters. It would be fun if there were later books to see how Jo, Mel and Zoe and their families are doing.
I was provided an advanced copy of this book by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review
Making it Right is the third and final book in the Most Likely To series by Catherine Bybee. Although it can be read as a standalone, the series focuses on three best friends reuniting for their ten year high school reunion and I highly suggest you go back to read Mel and Zoe’s stories. While I am sad to say goodbye to this series because I have so enjoyed the town and the characters, I have been waiting for Jo’s story and it is a fantastic ending.
Jo Ward is the daughter of the town Sheriff and known as a wild child in high school. But fast forward 12 years and Jo has turned her life around. She is now the Sheriff of River Bend, Oregon, her hometown and the town where her father had been sheriff before his untimely death. The wild child is a wonderful sheriff, but she wants to challenge herself so she jumps at an opportunity to train for a week at Quantico and enhance her skills. This is where Gill Clausen enters Jo’s life and our story. Gill is a sexy, rough around the edges federal agent who falls for Jo almost instantly. Fans of the series always knew that it would take a special guy to match up with Jo and Gill certainly fits the bill. While he admires her firecracker, no nonsense personalities, he can also see the pain that is always bubbling just below the surface. Gill is not going to let Jo steamroll over him and that is exactly what this tough heroine has been searching for…even if she doesn’t know it yet.
Gill and Jo just really understand each other. They are both passionate about their careers, which leads to a passion for each other. When they team up to find out the truth behind the death of Jo’s dad, they make an irresistible force to be reckoned with. They had amazing chemistry but they also shared an underlying tenderness that I felt like they both needed in their dangerous lives. Plus, they were a fun couple! They flirted and got under each other’s skin in all the right ways. And Gill got the seal of approval from the other girls, which was very important because one of my favorite elements about this series is the core friendship.
Making it Right is an amazing story full of secrets, twists, and turns that will blow your mind. Just when you think you have it figured out, something happens that changes everything. This was a perfect ending to an amazing series by a great author. I highly recommend this book to romance readers everywhere!

Catherine Bybee is a go to author for me. And, books like this one are the reason. I really enjoyed Jo's story, which was a surprise for me as her story was the one I wasn't looking forward to of the 3.
Jo was interesting. And, I loved the exploration of the idea that she was living her life possibly for someone else rather than for her. I think a lot of us are in the position of doing things, or acting in certain ways, because of the expectations of others, or the expectations we place on ourselves because of the influence of others, because we think it is what they want us to do. I loved that this was explored in the guise of Jo following in her father's footsteps (don't worry, really not a spoiler as this is something that comes up throughout the book).
I adored Gill. There was just something about him that made him incredibly appealing. I think a lot of it was how much he just plain adored and respected JoAnne, as he calls her. There is an appeal to a story that features a hero who just plain adores the heroine. And, it lets him get away with challenging her, and with calling her out, without losing the respect of the reader, as you know he thinks she is great.
As always, the book is well written and well paced. I would have liked a little less of the "murder mystery" but at the same time, I think it was important for the story of Jo as a whole, so I am not even positive that this was not well balanced.
There is an acknowledgement in the end of the book that is both heartfelt and rather funny, and, yes Ms. Bybee, I think ending it with a big fire would have left us readers with an ending we didn't love.
I recommend this book, as both a standalone and as the satisfying end to a series.
Oh my gosh. Catherine Bybee has done it again. I don't know how she does it, but she does.
Making it Right is the third and final book in the Likely To series, and is a standalone read. The series focuses on three best friends reuniting for their ten year high school reunion. This is the story of JoAnne Ward, who was the daughter of the town Sheriff and known as a wild child in high school. She was voted Mostly Likely to End Up in Jail.
Twelve years after graduating, Jo has turned her life around. She is now the Sheriff of River Bend, Oregon, her hometown and the town her father reigned over. Her whole adult life has been spent on filling her father’s shoes, making him proud, and refusing to believe that he accidentally shot and killed himself. But now, Jo finds herself wanting more.
Gill Clausen is an FBI agent based in Eugene, Oregon. He’s also the partner of Shauna who has become a friend of Jo’s since the series started. He’s good at his job, but doesn't have your standard Federal Agent appearance. The two meet when Shauna convinces Jo to attend an FBI training class in DC.
The attraction between these two is immediate. However, Jo isn't looking for a relationship and she can't have the citizens of River Bend think of her any differently because she's a woman. But Gill refuses to take no for an answer. What starts out as a one night stand quickly becomes so much more.
Within a month of meeting, Jo’s past and future collide when she and Gill team up to investigate what happened to her father. As a couple, I loved Jo and Gill together. Their passion is spot on, but their interactions with each other are fun and playful. Making it Right is an amazing story full of secrets, twists, and turns that will have you guessing and leaving your mind blown.
The Most Likely To series is probably my favorite series from Catherine. While I loved the two previous books, Making it Right was the book I was waiting for and it did not disappoint. Now, I have to grab a print copy just so I can hug it.
**Received a copy from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed the book.**
In high school, Jo Ward was once named Most Likely To End Up in Jail. Today, she is the sheriff of River Bend, a small town where not much happens. She inherited this job from her father after his death sometime after her high school graduation. His death was declared accidental, but Jo doesn't believe it. She believes he was murdered. Jo is getting antsy that she hasn't been able to find any clues and decides to attend a law enforcement training course in Washington, DC. One of her instructors is FBI agent Gill Clausen. While the mice are away from prying eyes, the mice will play. The suspense in this book kept me reading through the night. I closed my eyes at one point in the story, not wanting to read what I knew was coming! After I laughed at myself, I continued reading. I thoroughly enjoyed how Jo and Gill's relationship played and how he was integrated into her group of friends. I loved how Jo and Gill solved the murder of her father and gave her some closure. Though I am sad to see this series end, I enjoyed how it ended. Well played, Catherine Bybee!
I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
This was probably my favorite of the three but still, this series was a letdown overall. The attempts at suspense didn’t work for me in any of them and kept me from getting into the stories.
I loved MAKING IT RIGHT, the third and final book and Catherine Bybee's Most Likely To series. I have really liked this series and I'm sad to know this is the last book. I really enjoyed getting to know Mel, Zoe, and Jo as well as the rest of the River Bend gang.
As the town Sheriff, Jo has had to keep her love life on the down low. Always sticking with out of town lovers. Her trip to DC for field training from the FBI at Quantico is the perfect opportunity for her to cut loose and hook-up. Her one night stand with the sexy "Rocco" was just what she needed before getting down to business with her training.
One taste of the sexy JoAnne isn't enough for Agent Gill Clausen, in or out of bed she's got his attention. He can tell she's struggling with problems regarding her job as the Sheriff of her small town and wanting to solve the mystery of her father's murder. He's just the man to help her.
Good mystery with some great twists, a solid love story, a strong heroine, a big sexy man and some very hot sex scenes. 4.5 stars
I put off reading this book because Jo was my least favorite of the three heroines staring in this trilogy. What a delightful surprise this book was for me. All the things I love. A beautiful independent woman who meets an incredible man. A little intrigue thrown in to spice things up. I love your books Catherine Bybee.
This book right here is what I have been waiting for! Since the series started, I have been wanting Jo's story, and it was everything I wanted.
And more.
Well, Mr McHottie Gill is more.
Throughout the series, I have felt that Jo was missing out. Missing out on love, missing out on life.
From "most likely to end up in jail" to town Sheriff, Jo's story has been full of heartbreak - and she's not up for any more of that.
However, after an encounter with Gill, Jo's life is set on a different course. She has been trying to get to the bottom of her father's death a decade earlier, and now with fresh eyes and another persons perspective, things are moving along.
It is a whodunnit that has been building up since the earlier books in the series, and I have to say, Ms Bybee has written this so well that I was completely shocked when all things were reveal - well played.
I loved the growth in all the characters in this series, but particularly Jo. She finally spreads her wings and it is a joy to read.
I am sad that this is the final book in this series (as I am when any Catherine Bybee series ends) but that just means we will soon be on a new adventure.
The first half of this book was just filler: Jo going to DC and going to a dive bar and picking up Rocco and having sex with him, a complete stranger. Then meeting that stranger (Gill) the next day at the place where she’s going to learn shooting, hand-to-hand combat, driving instructions and negotiations. Just what the sheriff of a town of a few hundred would need when the worst going on there is a pothole and too many dogs at one old woman’s house. Then Gill show up in town and all the gossip begins. I was ready to quit reading at 50% but I read on, hoping the second half of the book would get better, since on reviewer on Amazon said this. “There is a thick current of dark and disturbing in this book which ruined the story.” BUT that reviewer was full of it. There was nothing dark or disturbing about any part of this book.
Actually, the best part of the book was the last 20%. 80% was nothing but filler, and unnecessary filler at that, about people I was not remotely interested in. I’ve read Catherine Bybee’s Weekday Brides and the Not Quite series and the MacCoinnich Time Travel Series, and I loved all of them but this last series was just not for me. I liked the Gill and Jo but I just didn’t care for the story itself. I will NOT give up on CB but I’m glad this series is over.
There was explicit sex in this book and the F-bomb was used 6 times.
As to the narration: Cristina Panfilio did a very good job on the on the voices and most of the emotions.
Catherine Bybee is fast becoming one of my auto-buy authors. This is the third book in the Most Likely to series and completes the stories of three best friends. When I received an invitation from the publisher, via Net-Galley, to read and review, I immediately accepted.
Jo Ward is sheriff of River Bend. Her father was sheriff before his untimely death, and Jo believes his death was no accident. Although many years have passed, she is not willing to let it go.
While attending a law enforcement seminar to gain additional tools in her investigation, she meets Gill Clausen. The attraction between them is too strong to deny, and she believes she is involved in a fling that will end when the seminar does. Imagine her surprise when Gill shows up in River Bend determined to turn their brief affair into something more permanent.
Will Gill convince Jo he is worth giving up her commitment phobia, or will Jo keep her heart locked up?
Making it Right is a nice finish to this excellent series. This romance has a fantastic hero and a snarky heroine, great pacing, and an intriguing plot. While this one is not my favorite of the three books, I did enjoy it and was glad to see Jo get her happy ending.
Jo is a kick-some-butt kind of heroine, yet is still able to show her vulnerable side. I ended up liking her more than I expected since that is not my favorite character arch. What I liked most about her character was her desire to help teens. Her heart was in the right place.
Gill is yummy as the hero. He has all the ingredients I love in the male lead. He’s honorable, loyal and caring. He truly wants to earn Jo’s trust and her love and is willing to hang in there when she tries to push him away.
If you enjoy a romance with a great set of characters, and one with plenty of action mixed in, then you will love Making it Right. While it is not necessary to read the books in this series, I do recommend reading the other two books as well. Happy reading!
before reading : omg I am seriously fangirling so hard right now. I have loved reading all Catherine Bybee books.. and after ALLLL This time I got an ARC!!! im diving right into this and I cant wait ..
after reading: how sweet is this book! Rocco and Anne :P I love that it was so real, you felt the pain, you got excited during the "girl talk" and you wanted to be a part of the Most Likely Crew. It is sad to hear this is the end of the series. The book will be well received if you enjoy Catherine Bybee's writing style because it has remained true after all this time! this can be read as a standalone without taking too much away from the previous stories so that is nice since I started this series on book 3! I swear I was caught up reading all her books and somehow missed this entire series. you get a good happily for now feel about it and in the back of your mind you want a 10 years later rehash but it was written well enough that is isn't necessary
What can I possibly say that I haven't already said about one of Catherine's books? The last sure knows how to write!
Making It Right is the last book in the trilogy (although it reads just fine as a standalone )! Endings, especially in great series, always make me a little sad. I have grown to love Mel, Zoe & Jo and I hate to see the go. However, I was pretty anxious to see what Ms Bybee would so with Jo's story!
Jo is the former wild child, turned sheriff when her father (the former sheriff) was killed. Living in a small town, everyone knows everyone's business and memories are long! Jo doesn't have much of a love life - it's been pretty much 1 night stands away from the gossip of her small town. So when she meets "Rocco" whew!!!! Even better that her. 1 night stand refuses to stay just 1 night!
Life gets pretty interesting with the attempts on Jo's life and trying to figure out the bad guy before it's revealed to us! I'm happy to say I guessed right, although not as early as I had hoped. Lol!
I'm trying desperately not to have to use the spoilers button.. I'll leave this with saying one thing I love about Catherine's writing is while she can write a good steamy scene, her stories never rely on pure steam to make it wonderful.
This would make a great murder mystery movie (my favourite kind).
I liked both Gill and Jo but what kept me reading wasn't so much their "romance" but as another reviewer already noted, it was the suspense in this book that kept me reading and kept me interested. I also developed a soft spot for Jo's dad and kept hoping he was in witness protection. I did kind of work out who the suspect was but not their motivation so it was still enjoyable.
From being voted ‘Most likely to land in Jail’ by her high school class, to overseeing law enforcement in River Bend, Jo Ward takes all of her choices seriously. Jo’s ‘6th sense’ has been in overdrive for more than a year. When the opportunity presents itself, she makes arrangements to attend an FBI sponsored training program at Quantico. Meeting one of her instructors, Gill Clausen, prior to the class, makes for an interesting first day.
Jo is a not an ‘ever after’ person. She’s been left by everyone she’s ever loved, except her besties, Mel and Zoe. Growing up under the thumb of her dad, the Sheriff, and losing her mom when she was young, hasn’t been easy. She chose to rebel when in high school, then over achieve when she loses her dad.
Trying to prove her father didn’t die of an accidental shooting since she became the Sheriff, and as her relationship with Gill grows, Jo hopes a new set of eyes on the documents she’s amassed will help solve the mystery, give some closure, and help her move forward. Gill, is hoping to change Jo’s mind about ever after.
Incidents meant to cause harm to Jo, has Gill on edge. Working together, can they solve the decade old mystery and find happiness together?
Loved the last book in this trilogy and sad it’s completed. There were enough loose ends that I hope there will be a bonus novella tying them up! If I say please will it happen??? PLEASE??
I've been reading Catherine Bybee for a couple of years and she will continue to be an 'auto buy' author for me.
Great characters and story line make this romantic suspense a wonderful read. JoAnne Ward, Dheriff of River Bend, and FBI Agent Gill Clausen are well-developed characters. There are characters included from previous books in this series.
